It was ok. The permanent exhibition was closed, so it was essentially only three rooms for $10. In the first room, there were 5 silver statues - good back story, nice art. The second room was sensory overload and I couldn't stay longer than one minute. And the third room was just bizarre - see the video for a short taster.

The museum is in a temporary location and only one gallery to visit (but same entry fee.. a but annoying since really, there's only ONE small gallery). Gallery was 5-6 sculptures and about 10 videos of the artist dancing naked in various places. I was there with my 14 year old daughter.. we didn't think the $10 entry was justified.

Right now the museum is down below, located in a different building underground. It is pretty nice, but there are only three rooms with video exhibits. It is $10 to see the exhibition and I am not sure if it was really worth it.... It is definitely different and contemporary...

Absolutely no point in visiting the MAC at the moment as it’s being transformed. It is temporarily located in Place Villa Marie but all you will get for your 10CAD is whatever small exhibition that is currently advertised on their web page. Shame, I was looking forward to it, maybe next time.

This is not a large museum by any measure. I was expecting it to be bigger because of its location in the heart of the city's entertainment district. What it lacks in size, it makes up in originality, playfulness and quirkyness. The exhibits are visually striking, engaging and well displayed. Go there only if you are willing to play along and let yourself become temporarily part of the exhibits.

I think the main picture of the museum in Google Maps needs to be updated. As far as I could tell, this address is the location as of writing of the museum. It was difficult to find where it is. The museum was cool though in my opinion. It’s worth going to I think.

Very underwhelming. First they have changed locations. Current location is very hard to find. In a mall or building with lots of shops. I would recommend going through Mansfield street entrance. There is one one exhibition and it is a series of videos for about 26 mins for each one. We found it very underwhelming and a waste of our time. Wouldn't recommend based on what they have showing now.

It’s a shame that they are only partially open due to long term renovations (as of 2023 August) However what I saw I liked! Friendly staff too. Give it a go!

It should be known that the one you find is a temporary minute museum. We spent 50 min ACTUALLY trying to find the entrance that Siri said was 12 min from the original (Under renovation but not told if you look online unless you really investigate). It should pop up automatically when you go to their website so it was honest about it. The temporary museum is an underground understatement of contemporary art. Very disappointed. 3 "galleries" of art. Interesting. Took 5 minutes to view. $10 would rather just be donated to an actual Museum then the fake one you'll see. I will try again if I ever return to Montreal and the real MAC is available...

Small museum with interesting audiovisual expositions and paintings. Price goes down after 5:00 pm Friendly and courteous staff. I was able to enjoy the expositions all by myself.

The gallery was ok. My frustration was with the lack of any signs at the original location about the new temporary location. I walked around for about 20 minutes until I realized that that location was temporarily closed. It was also difficult to find the new location due to lack of signage outside. It was like a scavenger hunt just to find the museum. It’s almost like they don’t want to be found!

Would’ve loved to visit this museum if I could’ve found the entrance. First the museum location is incorrectly placed on Google Maps. The museum is actually about a 15 minute walk from the location pinned. The Museum has no clearly marked entrances. After walking nearly 30 minutes around the perimeter and into the Place-des-Arts complex, I was still unable to figure out where to go. I’m sure the collection is lovely, but it needs to be more accessible and clearly marked. I could only imagine the experience for people on a wheelchair or walking difficulties.

This museum only has one exhibit that takes about 10 minutes to go through. It’s not clear on the website or at the location that this is the case. We expected to be able to kill a couple hours here.

Great art! Reasonable price. However, If you look Moroccan…be mindful of the fact that unfriendly security guards will not only follow you throughout the museum with judgement but will also guard the entrance of the gift shop…even when you are buying over $300 of merchandise. Bit “UNDIVERSE & UNINCLUSIVE”

Right now its only a small exhibition in a mall, but its a great exhibition. There are multiple rooms and sections to walk through, with different forms of content in a vaguely chronological order. If you take the time to read, watch, and understand everything you will be there for a while. I loved the format, it almost felt like a documentary with an artistic twist, and it was as informative as it was enjoyable to walk through.

DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY!!!! I can't stress this enough. While they are in their temporary location in Place Ville Marie, STAY AWAY. Not only are they hard to find but there is nothing worth seeing for their reduced price of $10 a person. 3 rooms with screens including one room with the most boring Andy Walhol exhibit (the stationnary audition movie) I've ever seen. We were in and out of the front door within 5 minutes. We feel that we made a donation to the employee fund (4 of them with nothing to do) and that we got royally defrauded. You've been warned.

We were a little annoyed because we paid full price but couldn't see the permanent exhibit. And some of the temporary modern art was just junk (sorry to be harsh - but it was bad). - I think it has an opportunity to improve with better exhibits and fair pricing (when half of museum is closed).

I brought my kids over there, they never said anything about the temporary exposition. Which contained nudity. I comprehend it as an art but at least tell me before bringing my kids in. It was also very short from what I thought.

Personally think it's worth skipping as it's just one exhibition at the moment, and at the moment, it's not particularly great. Strange and different that's for sure though. To enter, go to the building (Royal Bank of Canada - East Entrance), go down the escalators and enter the underground mall and turn left. Go all the way down to the end and you'll see the temporary location of the museum.

I went when their main building was being renovated. Their exhibitions were on rotation during this period. I saw the video art of Nelson Hendricks. Nelson Hendricks’ art epitomizes the genre/kind of art that is mocked as meaningless noise. Spend your time elsewhere.

A relevant selection of exhibits for contemporary art lovers. The museum shop has very high prices on books and other objects.

Terror Contagion currently available is deeply thought provoking and informative. There is such a lot to take in that it is only the tip of the iceberg. But a starting point to provoke a deeper awareness of what technology is capable of. I found the temporary location difficult to find for a visitor to Montreal. The front of house is most unwelcoming. The woman at the ticket office was abrupt and quite rude. On the other hand a young lady spent time with me to explain the content of the exhibition which I really appreciated. In winter the least that could be provided is a ' cloak room' as in a coat rack, to leave coats etc. Perhaps when I come back in a couple of years time MAC will be back in its home.

This was my favorite museum that I saw in Montreal. There were a lot of thought-provoking exhibits. You could spend a good part of the day there. I would definately return and recommend it to others. Lots of bathrooms throughout the museum as well which was very nice.

Nice and compact museum of modern art. I was really excited about kids play video performance at the temporary exposition.it was touching experience! I would like to visit another exposition at this museum. Lots of cafes and restaurants around this place.

The main location is closed (under renovation) and is scheduled to be complete in 2025. The temporary location at 1 Place Ville Marie only shows a film. There are no exhibits. I didn't watch the film due to lack of time, but the front desk staff were very friendly and helpful. I wish the museum website had information about the main location being closed during renovations.

As stated in the previous reviews I wish there was more transparency on their website about the temporary location, it’s size and what to look for when you’re trying to find the current spot. I didn’t mind paying $10 for the exhibition, the experience was short and sweet.

Disgusting display of propaganda for sheeple - masquerading as art. Shame on the curators. I feel disgusted thay my kid and his friend were exposed to this garbage... we went to seek culture and found a brainwashing vat of Russophobia instead. 🤮

Currently being renovated. Only a few installations are available. Recommend waiting until the rest of the museum is open.

We visited for the Leonard Cohen exhibition and it was excellent. The gallery rooms are a good large size and several were set up with projections and some small padded seats and with more floor seating on carpet. (Fold out seats were available for older and disabled visitors). The films that had been created for the exhibition were incredible and gave you a good feel for L.C.'s life. Touching and heart warming. We visited parts of the other exhibitions which were good for modern art - not necessarily to my artistic taste though.

I am absolutely in love with this Museum. For many years it received Montrealers and visitors from all Canada and the world with a robust own collection of Canadian art but also with treasures from all over the globe received by generous donors. You will be amazed with Napoleon's collection, the masters from Europe or the rich Innuit sculptures. For kids and adults of all ages. Beautiful architecture, many places to sit and enjoy the visit. Amazing boutique, great cafeteria. Always available assistance from employees in both French and English. Diverse activities for kids. Seminars. Enrich content in most of the collection that provides video and extra information about artists and/or the piece of art in particular. A full day visit is never enough to see it all. You cannot say you visited Montreal if you never included this Museum in your agenda.

I had one of the best artistic experiences that I have had in recent memory here—A Lot of Sorrow, a collaboration with Ragnar Kjartansson and The National is mind blowing. I was utterly mesmerized. I wish I could have gone back every day. Lots of other interesting works to see too.

Our stop here was meaningful - based on the special exhibit of Rebecca Belmore. I was unaware of her work, and the presentation put forth by the museum was an extraordinary depiction of the emotion, tension and struggle for truth. Unfortunately other parts of the museum were closed for work (not accessible). I’ll gladly visit the museum again to enjoy how they share other meaningful art/artists.

Only one exhibit during renovations. The pacing of the videos was ridiculously slow. I AGREE with the producers' bias, and I still found the blatant emotional manipulation offensive.

although it is closing/moving to Plave Ville Marie for renovations, it remains a place to discover new artists. the new acquisitions reveal an interest in native artists, including first Nations and the indigenous people of the north. the lighting is always good, and the insulations are interesting. I'm also very fond of the welcome that one gets in the small museum. as a member, I always feel like I'm coming home.

I was asked, “where are you from?” by the staff in the ticket center. I’m not sure that’s asked out of curiosity or MAC would like to collect the visitors’ demographic data (which I was not aware of). If you want to collect the data, let me know first before throwing the question directly. Otherwise, why do I need to explain my identity?

An impressive collection for an amazing city. There is something here for everyone; well curated galleries in a beautiful building in the centre of the city. Must!

It said it was open. The main galleries are closed to be redone. They had one room for free with wierd video stuff. I had a free pass but it was useless. Wasted a trip downtown.

Is this the montreal equivalent of the pompidou? It's always been my favourite. Years ago I would spend the whole afternoon here. Its quiet& quirky. some installations could keep me engaged for hours. I went back for a visit this past summer and was not disappointed even during the pandemic- they will always have something peculiar on display!

  • 1/5 Kaylee V. 2 years ago on Google
Hopefully there will be more to see once they have finished their renovations. Quite a high price to pay considering there are only 2 exhibits which each took less than 20 minutes to go through. At this point in time, I would not recommend visiting. It was not worth it based on the lack of any interesting works on display. Disappointing.
