If you are into Montreal history you are in the right place. The rooms are filled with information and audio to help you understand the history. The only thing that would make it better is being a bit interactive and have stuff that could be interesting for kids. It is not that big and lighting is not the best.

Beautiful garden and exterior. Almost the entire ground floor has been renovated and isn’t staged as a house so it doesn’t really have the same charm. The basement is probably the best part as it’s actually staged. Many of the audio devices were out of order. Still worth the visit in my opinion as the basement and gardens are lovely. The gift shop has some really nice items, not standard gift shop stuff but they have jewellery and pottery instead.

We enjoyed this museum but there are certainly areas that could be improved for future visits. For example, the lighting is very dim, making it hard to read the very small print on the curatorial notes, which were riddled with spelling mistakes. The museum is not particularly interactive and the iPads were out of order on most of the exhibits. That said, the museum itself has interesting content that speaks to Montreal's history and the history of Canada. There is a strong focus on Indigenous peoples and the Inuit as well as the arctic expedition which seems irrelevant to the Chateau itself but it was still fun and interesting to learn about. I would recommend this museum for first-timers but I personally would not visit a second time.

Very nice museum, right in Old Montreal, steps from the Old Port. The main floor has a lot of artifacts from the when Mr. Ramezay would have been alive, including some really old legal tender from before the Bank of Canada issued legal tender. For me though, the real beauty was in a few of the first rooms you enter. The detailed wood panelling on the walls were hand carved! I'm a bit confused about their origins though as they were brought into Château Ramezay at a later date, so possibly not original. In any case, very beautiful rooms. On the basement level the walls and ceilings had a very different look and feel, and almost seemed more like what I'd expect from that era. The basement is also staged like what it would have been like at that time, so you can imagine yourself there at that time, and what it might have been like. We went during the pandemic, on a Sunday morning, and we had the place to ourselves as well, so that was wonderful. If you're going to visit, I'd highly suggest a Sunday morning if you want the place to yourself... Well, at least during the pandemic where foot traffic is likely to be less. We visited a bit early in the year, so the gardens behind the château aren't blooming yet, however the gardens are free to visit any time for anyone, no tickets required, so we'll go back in a month or so to check them out. All in all, nice château and museum, and the tickets are cheap, so I'd say worth the visit!

This was an awesome and historic museum. There is a lot of history in a small area. We did the tour in English and we got there just after the last one started. But we got to look around and see some of there exhibit on art and see all the other spots the floor doesn't take you on. Or your guide was very good and we really enjoyed the whole experience

Nice place in the middle of Montreal, free gardens to mimic the old times French gardens. There's a guided tour which is free to ticket buyers and is recommended.

Historic governors mansion, exhibits full of the history of both the house and the history of Quebec. Covers the foundation of the province all the way to the 20th century. Further exhibits on the Intuit and Arctic exploration. At the time of this writing the basement was undergoing renovation but was able to be visited. The second floor (where the "ghost stories" are talked about) are offices and a conference room, off limits to the general public.

It is very entertaining and fun to know a little history, it is a good place to bring children. you can hear a bit of history in some languages, the governor's house is very beautiful and takes you for a moment to the past showing you objects from before! I think it is very good that they show us the history of Montreal! highly recommended

Very cool museum! There's a really neat vault in the basement to explore and beautiful woodwork throughout the house. There's also a beautiful garden out back to explore.

This handsome dwelling, grand for its day, provides a deep dive into the history of early Montreal. Home to the Gouverneur, it features a large collection of artifacts and accounts of a visit from such notables as Ben Franklin. It has great audio guides in multiple languages which describe life both upstairs and downstairs. Don't miss the sectioned garden, a fraction of the original, which features varied foods and herbs for the kitchen, a selection of ornamental plants, and an orchard/vineyard. Reasonably priced, the costumed guides take you to their world. If that were not enough, there are two rooms dedicated to the Inuit and their way of life and the adventures of polar explorers who braved the Arctic to "discover" the Inuit lands. A fabulous dive into history that you should not miss.

The whole place takes about 45 minutes to 1 hour to go through properly. Each room is very unique and provides a lot of history to learn. There is a creepy ghost feel I have to admit. Price for adults was under 10 bucks. Worth a quick stop.

Well worth a visit. I did expect more original interior layouts but it is more of a museum with displays. Very informative and educational. Perfect for a tourist not from the area who wants to learn about one of the founding families of Toronto.

Absolutely love scent exposition, you could smell the scent of flowers that were sent by dad from battlefield in Europe to his daughter in Montreal. Heartbreaking story about the war, love and hope. Chateau by itself as a source and spirit of old life in Montreal.

We were visiting from out of town and love to see historical places like this preserved and promoted to help not only document the past in a tangible way but also provide opportunities to understand our present times - how we got where we are today. This building saw many changes over its existence. We really appreciated the amount of time spent creating imaginative stories that were available through headsets in each room to help understand the people and events. The downstairs area looked recently renovated and had useful teaching aids for young people. There was a small collection of paintings of Quebec City in two of the rooms that was interesting. We enjoyed the gardens in the back though there had already been prepared for winter - I’m sure they’re much nicer in the summertime. Enjoy your visit.

The museum of governor Claude De Ramezay, devoted his whole life to the Canadian government. Transportation, building structure, to the kitchen and living habits, introductions available in many languages including mandarin, Spanish and Japanese. Give you a great background knowledge of the Quebec’s development. There’s also a well maintained small garden behind. If you love history, this is your go to spot.

It was pretty good, but I liked Château Dufresne better, as we got to see and explore preserved rooms from that Era. Ramezay had more little exhibits of old artifacts. However, the Ramesay garden was lovely.

Heritage site (well-maintained) complete with botanical garden, artifacts, reconstructions, digital audio/visual presentations, artwork (painted reproductions, wooden sculptures, etc., etc.), and reenactment of soldiers (full garb) marching through the streets. There is much to see and sample, including guided activities that offer real insight into the realities facing habitants and nobility of the time. Kids are welcome, though parents must secure a calm and polite exploration of the premises' offerings. I visited for 2.5 hrs with my two boys, aged 4 and 6. They loved it! There is a chest containing articles of clothing from the epoch. Especially neat were the wooden clogs, available in adult and children's sizes). A glimpse into our past and heritage. Well worth the time.

Palace of the governor of Montreal. A place full of history that dated back to the 17th century. The tour guide of our group is wonderful. Very passionate and very knowledgeable about the history of Quebec and Montreal. The garden of the palace is so beautiful and full of amazing flowers and fruits. The palace is about 10 $ for student and the garden is free to visit.

We visited this museum in our trip to Montreal. The reception personnel were friendly and helpful. The museum itself worth visiting. It took less than an hour for us to see all the rooms, the architecture for a residential place looked nice. There is a tiny garden behind the building as well.

Great place that showed the entire Montreal or QCs evolvement in history. An interactive and fun way to learn. Only one star deducted for not taking advantage of using the upper floors to showcase all the owners furniture, lifestyle and all other display.

Outstanding presentation of Montreal/Quebec/Canadian history in a 1705 chateau. This building has a unique history, having been a residence, office, courthouse, American army post, university and now a museum. See the first automobile ever driven in Quebec. Beautiful gardens. Guided tours every day in English or French will help you appreciate our history.

Here during the late summer so I expected it to be more crowded but luckily it was not. I recommend going on a free guided tour. Ask when you buy your tickets; they're at set times. The gardens in back are beautiful, and definitely worth a walk through. Don't miss the downstairs too.

The château Ramezay muséum is the old house of the governor. We were curious about Montreal history. We arrived at 3pm on a Monday and got the start of a free tour, this was great. There is a section at the bottom reconstituting the different rooms of the house and how people lived at the time. There is also a nice garden at the back with all the local vegies!

Definitely one of the must-see places in Old Montreal. Château Ramezay has one of the most whimsical gardens in the city. Make sure to walk around the grounds on both sites of this historical site. Don't miss the back garden. If you're visiting in winter, you will miss most of the magic since the garden will be covered with snow.

This is a small museum with a lot of colonial artifacts. I enjoyed going through the bottom floor and thinking about what it would be like in the snow. There were some interactive pieces etc, I went mostly to dodge the hot weather but enjoyed my time there. The outdoor garden was interesting and free.
