Decent if a bit underwhelming history museum. I was expecting something more comprehensive but the exhibits at the ground floor only present a condensed history of the city, and there were more textual information than actual historical artifacts. That said, the presentation was chronological so it was easy to follow. And I did enjoy the special exhibition on the World Expo of 1967, located at the second floor. We thought we'd be here for at least two hours but only stayed for an hour. They charge a small admission fee ($7.50 when we visited). The gift shop was tiny and had nothing interesting to sell. I thought the Chateau Ramezay Museum in front of City Hall had an overall better presentation and narrative. Go check it out if you're interested in local history.

simple but attentive concept. excellent entry experience and excellent WC. did not like the payable mini-exhibition because it was payable.

Best museum in Montreal. Definitely worth the ticket price. Very well decorated and delicately exhibited, get to know about this beautiful city more. Staying here for 4 months, I will miss Montreal!

A bit underwhelming probably cos I visited this place after the legendary Museum of fine arts. But for the price $7 it's okay. Lot of things to be read and learned about Montreal. If you are on a tight schedule you may consider skipping it too. The staff were courteous and the museum is very well maintained. Spend not more than an hour here.

A really good local museum that has a nice overview of the history of the city of Montreal and surrounding area. The displays are excellent with lots of good props and maps and video displays.

It was interesting but the little bit that's open now probably isn't worth the admission price. Videos were interesting but I'd bet some would be freely available on YouTube. Also there was no mention of anyone I've ever heard of. But I think phase 2 coming soon would be worth another visit, so I would go back when it opens.

The public (free) area was interesting. I learned a lot about Montréal and I was moved by the permanent exhibit about the women’s shelter celebrating 90 years.

Very nice place to visit, there are interesting conferences about different and interesting topics, I went to one about the history of Montreal’s police and few items from the police museum used by old time police, their 3rd floor changed 2-3 times a year for a theme exposition, I’ve ha seen there one related to Expo 67 and another related toMontreal City of Vice in the old days, their 1st stage you can find very interesting Montréal history divided by time periods, easy to understand and kid friendly, you can interact with certain artifacts ( only these will have the sign that you can touch) to enhance experience

Wonderful museum on the history of Montreal. The exhibits are laid out well and are both in French and English. Great way to kill an hour or two.

Very little things worth to see. I don't think it worth the money. Luckily, we had a free family entrance.

We really learn a lot about the history and the present of the city of Montreal. Their temporary exhibitions are always of high quality on the background and on the form and everything is bilingual! A great way to review history lessons with our kids. Excellent place to learn about the history and development of Montreal. Exhibits in the permanent exhibit area on the first floor were very well done. Everything is bi-lingual. Second floor was an exhibition of Expo '67 and was very interesting as well. Although a little small, the cost is very low, particularly for over-55 and children. The facility is handicap accessible. Nearby on the Place d' Youville is the Montreal Founder's Monument/Obelisk and plaques noting the signing of the "Great Peace" with 30+ native American tribes that finally made Montreal save for settlement.

Even those who have some knowledge of Montreal's history are likely to learn something from this very human sized museum. It does a wonderful job of telling Montreal's story from the first traders through the Franco-Anglophile conflicts to modern multicultural center.

We loved waking around Old Montreal with the quaint shops, eateries, restaurants, and shops. There are art galleries that have wonderful collections and items to choose from. To this day I regret not having purchased a beautifully carving of an iconic dancing bear handcrafted by an indigenous local artist...

  • 3/5 Clarissa S. 3 years ago on Google
However, it is a small area, so you can see it all in one morning. Of course, if you get inside every store, you will need more time; but for the outside area, is quite small, if you compare with the historic center of other cities in the world. There are some good restaurants in the area (but there are good restaurants everywhere in the world). So, yes, if you are in Montreal, you have to visit it. But keep your expectations to a reasonable level.

(Translated by Google) Not enough artifacts, too much reading. To read the history of Montreal, you can take a book ... At the museum, I like to see objects. There is indeed a sanitary napkin (!!! not used, phew !!!) ...! Super disappointing.

(Translated by Google) Fairly comprehensive museum on the history of Montreal. The entry price is reasonable. The permanent exhibition is well documented and one can easily see the evolution of the city over time. Beautiful building in the old port, just behind the Pointe-à-Callières museum. Nice place if you are looking for something original to do in the area. (Original) Musée assez complet sur l'histoire de Montréal. Le prix d'entrée est raisonnable. Belle place si vous cherchez quelque chose d'original à faire dans le coin.

(Translated by Google) Small museum that offers an overview of the history of Montreal from indigenous peoples to today. The exhibitions are divided by major periods where we present to you in a very general way the major events and characteristics and certain characters of this period. Unfortunately there is a lack of more detailed time context. That said, the visit is still worth it.
