Capela dos Ossos de Campo Maior

Tourist attraction Museum Chapel

😐 The chapel itself looks spectacular from the window of course, since they did not allow us access because it was supposedly under construction, which could not be seen from it. The very unpleasant priest, I don't know if we caught him at the wrong time or what, but he left a lot to be desired. But... People often mention chapel, capela, Capela, visit, obras,

(Translated by Google) The chapel itself looks spectacular from the window of course, since they did not allow us access because it was supposedly under construction, which could not be seen from it. The very unpleasant priest, I don't know if we caught him at the wrong time or what, but he left a lot to be desired. But I repeat that the capella (what we could see from the window) was amazing.

(Translated by Google) Not worth it. 1 room full of bones that you don't know if you'll be able to visit... They don't have schedules depending on whether the person who has to open is there.

(Translated by Google) There is a lady who has the key to the Capela dos ossos, she is usually cleaning outside the Church or inside it, if you don't know Portuguese don't worry, she speaks Spanish perfectly, the Capela dos ossos is worthy of be visited.

Closed at the moment for preservation of the bones. BUT: You can try and call the priest of the main church (Igreja Matriz) and make an appointment to open the door for you 😉 There is also a bell on the door and you can try if someone is there. Very special experience place to visit - especially when you learn the story behind it...

(Translated by Google) I was lucky to see it, it is impressive. To enter, be lucky and be at the right time when they can open you. Now it is supposed to be under construction.

(Translated by Google) We arrived at the chapel this morning and it turns out that it is under construction and they have not allowed us to visit it because the priest was not there, who seems to be the one who can let you in. In addition, the window from which you can see is covered with a glass that reflects to prevent you from seeing the interior (I guess because of the works), and you can't see anything at all. All this is not indicated anywhere and that is why I thought of telling it in case it can be useful to other travelers :) Even so, we will try to return at another time because we have been looking forward to it. It looks like an amazing place.

(Translated by Google) A small chapel that is clad with parts of the human skeleton. This is to honor those who died in the disaster that occurred in the city. Unfortunately it was a little difficult to get into. We had to try for two days. They are chapels that do not stand out for their beauty but that for cultural purposes do not exempt our visit. Another approach to chapel decoration ... Special thanks to Sr Padre, who was kind enough to let us have a look. (Translated by Google) The chapel was created to collect the remains of more than 800 people who died in the explosion of the castle's powder magazine. Similar to San Bernardino alle Ossa in Milan, but born with other purposes. 4 stars because it makes you think.
