Very
poor
and
disappointing
experience.
This
is
not
a
“5-star”
hotel.
As
noted
by
many
other
reviewers,
the
hotel
and,
in
particular,
the
rooms
are
very
dated
and
unattractive,
with
old
70s
style
furniture
and
fixture/fittings.
Worst
still,
the
carpet
was
severely
stained
throughout.The
wi-fi
is
poor
and
only
intermittent.
Furthermore,
I
booked
a
king-size
bed
room
only
to
be
given
a
twin
queen
room
despite
staying
on
my
own
(supposedly
because
they
had
ran
out
of
rooms).
Again,
as
others
have
mentioned,
the
rooms
have
really
bad
sound
insulation
combined
with
a
very
noisy
air
conditioning
unit.
For
example,
having
had
a
very
busy
and
exhausting
day,
I
was
hoping
to
have
a
good
night’s
sleep
only
to
be
kept
up
by
a
private
party
in
the
hotel,
with
heavy
bass
noise
reverberating
into
my
room.
The
night
staff
had
a
very
laissez-faire
attitude
and
despite
calling
down
to
reception
repeatedly
over
the
course
of
an
hour
(10:05pm
-
11:03pm)
nothing
was
done
until
I
came
down
myself
to
reception
to
complain.
At
this
point
an
unfriendly
security
guard
came
up
to
my
room
and,
after
initially
claiming
the
music
was
from
outside
the
hotel,
he
eventually
acknowledged
it
was
actually
coming
from
a
private
party
in
the
hotel
on
the
sixth
floor.
However,
despite
promising
me
that
he
would
go
up
and
tell
the
party
organisers
to
stop
playing
the
music
this
continued.
Eventually,
after
another
45min,
I
called
reception
back
to
enquire
why
the
music
was
still
being
allowed
to
play,
only
to
be
told
by
the
reception
lady
that
the
music
normally
stops
at
12am
anyway!
As
a
supposedly
5-star
hotel,
I
would
also
have
expected
the
concierge
to
assist
with
local
restaurant
reservations.
Instead,
my
experience
was
that
after
calling
the
Fairmont
concierge
staff
member
to
book
a
specific
restaurant,
she
told
me
that
she
tried
calling
them
but
they
didn’t
answer
so
I
should
try
myself
(not
even
“leave
it
with
me,
I’ll
keep
trying”
or
“let
me
offer
you
these
alternative
suggestions”).
Similarly,
I
had
a
guest
come
and
he
wanted
to
leave
his
rucksack
with
the
concierge
while
we
went
for
a
walk,
only
to
be
be
bizarrely
told
that
they
would
not
take
it
despite
myself
staying
at
the
hotel
as
it
was
a
“security
risk”
(instead
I
had
to
take
it
back
up
to
my
room,
which
presumably
is
not
a
“security
risk”
according
to
the
hotel
management!!!).
In
terms
of
the
breakfast,
the
food
was
very
bland
and
unappealing,
for
example
the
chicken
sausages
tasted
like
rubber.
The
restaurant
staff
varied
from
being
helpful
to
very
unhelpful,
and
they
were
far
too
slow
at
cleaning
the
tables
to
allow
other
guests
to
eat.
Overall,
a
combination
of
very
poor,
old
and
stained
rooms,
laissez-faire
attitude
from
the
night
staff
and
concierge
and
some
of
the
restaurant
staff,
poor
breakfast
quality,
resulted
in
the
worst
supposed
“5
star”
hotel
experience
I
have
ever
stayed
in
by
a
large
margin
(in
fact
I
have
stayed
at
3-star
hotels
that
were
superior).
This
poor
experience
was
shared
by
other
colleagues
who
were
also
staying
at
this
hotel,
one
even
finding
buckets
of
paint
being
left
immediately
outside
their
hotel
room!
I
note
that
other
reviewers
have
raised
these
negative
issues
in
the
past
with
responses
from
the
hotel
management/manager
stating
that
they
were
“very
sorry
to
hear
this”
and
that
they
“would
learn”
from
these
complaints/mistakes
-
clearly
this
has
NOT
been
the
case.
It
is
clear
that
this
is
a
hotel
that
is
still
living
on
previous
glory
and
has
not
come
to
realise
what
a
shambolic
mess
it
has
become.
May
I
suggest
that
the
whole
management
team
go
visit
some
hotels
in,
for
example,
Dubai
(or
most
other
major
cities)
where
they
can
learn
from
real
5-star
hotels
who
offer
a
true
luxury
experience.
