Found this trial when I was looking for an easy hike while on my lunch break. This place is pretty cool and even managed to spy a couple deer just wandering on the trail. The parking is fairly easy (there’s a lot). Definitely recommend for an easy midday/late morning stroll.

Definitely an uphill trail 💪 bring water! Very pretty and not too crowded. Street parking.

What a beautiful place. Managed a quick trail run and will definitely be back! Parking can be tricky in neighborhoods but there are plenty of turn off spots up and down the canyon roads.

Enjoy nature and get some exercise! It's a great place to come to, however the parking nearby is for people with permits only (the parking on site is not allowed)

It's definitely a 4.5 star trail rated path. There are many paths, but this one is hard, steep, grueling at times, not for first-timers. No bikers allowed. Take water, trail to towers is around 1.5 to 2 miles ... round trip around 4 miles. Parking is hard. Just make sure you follow parking signs. None, at park site, unless you arrive at 5am or get lucky. If you have jogged hiked or ran trails before and have experience in 4 to 6 mile trips, then you should be okay. But those just visiting, try another trail before this one. They close early, around 5/ 6 pm. The best times are around 6am to 9am. Leash pets pets please, and clean after yourself, don't litter!

One hell of a trail. The trail is hot and it is steep. I recommend to bring the right type of clothing and shoes to be as comfortable going up and down the hills. Bring enough water for you and your dog.

I've been going to this trail for years now and it's one of my go to hikes. The parking situation is horrible. You used to be able to park inside the small gated parking lot which opens at 9am but now you can't park there at all and the streets surrounding the trailhead are all permit parking only. I park all the way down Greenleaf by the Hadley intersection. It's the only little section on greenleaf that doesn't require permit parking. The trail is nice and challenging. That first hill definitely leaves you huffing and puffing. It's a lot of uphill so it's a good leg and butt workout. It's less than 4 miles if you reach the water tower and come back down.

I tried it out for the first time and its a great workout if you are looking for a challenging hike. The hills are steep and requires some endurance. It has beautiful views when you reach the hilltops! You can even see the Buddhist temple. The only downside is parking sucks, even if you go early. It's a residential area and requires a permit on most streets.

Really, not a bad experience at all. I would do this trail again for trail running as it’s perfect for that. I would rate it easy walking when you’re not going uphill. The views are wonderful. It’s too bad LA views are smoggy. I recommend going early in the am or late for a sunset view. Otherwise go in the winter at any time. Don’t forget your lanterns if you stay past dark !!

The only reason I am giving this place a low rating is due to the parking area being closed. Parking is already an issue for the neighborhood - so I can understand why the surrounding blocks require a parking pass. I can only imagine what it was like living there and not being able to park close to your home, because of people taking up the parking. So the issue was resolved for the neighborhood. But please, please open the parking area for the guests who are not only local but also for the guests coming from other cities/areas to enjoy your park trail. If you have to charge, then so be it. But please provide a solution for us as well. By luck we were able to park 5 blocks down to an area that did not require parking permit. Other than that- we love the trail!

Awesome trail, challenging hike but rewarding views of the mountains, Los Angeles and surrounding cities. Parking lot is limited at the park but you can find parking just two blocks away from the park entrance, make sure not to park where the city requires a permit. The trail connects to Turnbull Canyon so you can add more miles to your hike.

I would say it is a good enough trails. There are plenty of trails for you to choose. In this season, the weather is quite nice to hike. However the place will be more beautiful in summer, fyi. There many wild animals here, especially birds. If you noticed, there more than 8 birds species. I can’t take all the photos of them but I’m sure about the number. This trail is easy for walking but it will be a little hard when you going uphill a lot. I don’t think they allow to park here. When I get here, people usually park at neighborhood areas. If you’re lucky enough, u will find one. Many people said that they allow to park before. But now, for some reasons, the gate to enter parking space is closed all the time. You should also note about the opening and closing hours. Check on Google Maps before coming.

If you're a beginner this place is not for you.. it's killer!!! It's pretty cool if you can hang and like these steep trails. Do not trust anyone who says it's easy lol. It's actually way worse than it looks in these pictures. There isn't any shaded areas up here... there is a parking lot for maybe 12 to 20 cars.

I love this trail. I always come back .The parking lot really sucks though. You have to park like 8-1 blocks away since covid they haven't opened up the parking inside the trail. Smh

Mid-intensity, pet friendly, some shade zones, wide path for groups just be aware bikers, you can take kids, bring shoes with good grip, beautiful view. The bad: parking lot remains close, the area is private but theres 2 options you can park right on front theres 4 safe spots or you can try Beverly Blvd its about 1 block down the main entrance.

Hellman Park Trailhead is a wonderful hiking destination that I would highly recommend to anyone who loves the great outdoors. The park is located in Whittier, California, and offers a variety of trails that are suitable for hikers of all levels. One of my favorite experiences at Hellman Park Trailhead was when I went birdwatching with a friend. As soon as we started hiking, we were surrounded by the sounds of different bird species. It was as if the trees were alive with the chirping and tweeting of birds. As we continued on the trail, we saw a wide variety of birds. Some were small and colorful, while others were large and majestic. We even saw a few birds of prey soaring high above us, searching for their next meal. I was amazed at how many different species of birds could be found in this small park. One of the highlights of our birdwatching adventure was when we saw a pair of California towhees. These birds are known for their distinctive appearance, with their rust-colored feathers and white spots on their wings. They were hopping around on the ground, searching for insects to eat. We were able to observe them from a distance, and it was a truly amazing sight. The park is well-maintained and has a peaceful atmosphere, which makes it the perfect place to connect with nature. Whether you're an experienced hiker or just looking for a relaxing walk, Hellman Park Trailhead has something to offer. The birdwatching experience was just the icing on the cake for me, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who loves birdwatching or just wants to enjoy the beauty of nature.

I like coming here but they closed the parking lot and there's no where you can park thats close by. Most of the surrounding neighborhoods have signs that say permit only. It's very frustrating but there's only like 4 street parking spots and you have to be really patient and get lucky. The trail is pretty steep at some point. Very little shade. Take plenty of water.

Zero stars if I could've. There's no more parking even though there is a lott they keep it closed n it's permit parking on the street so if you park there u will get a ticket. City of Whittier used to be cool about 15-20 years ago but it's a S+++ Hole these days. Dave urself a headache and go somewhere slightly farther but it will be worth avoiding this place. The trail here isn't worth the parking hassle

Not really proper for running. Great place to go hiking or bike riding but not running. Open from 9am - 5pm. Not enough parking. More parking two blocks away from the trail entrance.

Such a nice place for hiking but there is no parking. Not sure the parking lot is closed due to being on a holiday (MLK Day)? I felt like the whole city of whittier has serious parking issue.
