I rented from Chalis only by default. Europcar did not have a car I reserved and led me to this company. From the very beginning I sensed trouble when they rented me a 2013 Toyota Yaris with a paint job that seemed to be done via spray paint cans. There were scratches everywhere on the body of the car, 3 of 4 rims were of one design and the 4th was of a different design. When I asked for a newer car they said I would have to pay about US$125.00 more for 2 weeks (bait and switch). They had plenty of newer cars on the lot. I did not see another car on the lot that looked like the one I received, therefore I refused to pay more but reluctantly took the car because of the distance I had to travel, my time constraints and I did not want to keep arguing with the 2 clerks. After leaving the premises, the car ran fine until I stopped in traffic or at a light where it rattled incessantly. A few days later a passenger traveling with me held onto the handle in the ceiling and it immediately came apart. I tried putting it back in place but to no avail, so I put it in the glove box. When I returned the car, they saw the broken handle and proceeded to get a price for the part and charged me for the replacement. I was furious. I accused them of running a shoddy and unprofessional operation and they accused me of damaging the car. I responded that the handle broke during normal operational use and I should not be charged given the age and condition of the car. Not to mention that this was the only available handle in the car. All the other 3 handles were missing and the holes plugged with a plastic insert. Seemed like 3 other poor suckers like myself had the same experience and paid like I did. The clerks were shouting at me and claimed that even newer cars can have defective parts, (excuses, excuses, excuses) and the kicker was when one of the clerks (I think it was Paulette) said that "I should be happy that I am going back alive, instead of worrying about a minor thing like that". Is that customer service or what? This lady should be held accountable for such behavior. She probably won't but my only advice is, don't rent from Chalis under any circumstance. Stick with the major (international) car rental companies. Beware of these locally owned companies, they are no where near the standard of the other major car rental companies. They are money hungry and can ruin an otherwise pleasant stay on the island. A 1 star rating is way more than what this company deserves. Can't say you weren't warned.

I have been renting from this company for years. The service is exceptional. The management and staff are very professional. You are often met at the airport by a friendly staff who will transport you to the rental office where you will complete your paper work and pick up your car. The cars are very clean and are in excellent condition. The pricing is very reasonable compared to their competitors and the quality vehicle you rent. I recommend Chalis Car Rentals and and Tours. When you rent from them you drive away with a piece of mind, knowing their cars are well maintained and safe. Exceptional service! Excellent company!

We rented from Chalis recently, as we have used them several times in the past and always had good experiences. However this time was a complete nightmare! The first car they gave us overheated and died twice before we even got out of MoBay. We took it back, they wanted us to wait until another vehicle came in although there were tons of other vehicles on the lot. We had been traveling for 24+ hours with 2 small children so we just wanted to get to our hotel! They finally agreed to give us a different car from the lot. The second vehicle ended up having faulty brakes which gave out completely when we drove to Mandeville. Luckily it gave out as we were going uphill and not downhill, otherwise we could have all been seriously hurt. We called the office and were told to let the brakes cool down. WTH?! I've driven through the dessert in 120 degree weather and have never had brakes overheat and completely stop working! Luckily we turned into a gravel road to slow down the vehicle and then used the parking brake to stop completely. After about 30 mins the brake became operational again and we slowly made our way back to Negril, fearing for our lives as we didn't know if the brake would go out again. Nobody from the staff even bothered calling back to see if we were ok, or to apologize. A few days later we heard a loud rattling coming from one of the tires. My husband took off the hubcap thinking a rock may have gotten in there and was causing the rattling. We discovered it was a lug nut that had broken off, one of the 3 that had been holding the tire in place, so now we were driving with a tire on only 2 lug nuts and one of those was cracked and looked like it wasn't going to hold on much longer. The rim itself was also cracked and rusted. Again, a serious safety hazard that could have caused serious injuries to our entire family! We took the vehicle back, they called the "mechanic" over who looked at the tire and then drove off without saying a word. We demanded a different vehicle, which they quickly provided, but again no apology for the inconvenience or upgrade. They didn't even acknowledge the seriously hazardous situations they put our family in! The 3rd and last vehicle we got seemed to be safe, but the AC went out whenever you accelerated over 45 KM. We only had a couple days left on the island so we didn't even bother taking it back, since we had already wasted so much vacation time back and forth to Chalis. We will NEVER rent from Chalis again!!! No amount of cost savings is worth our lives! They obviously don't care about the safety of their customers, and their mechanic does not care to properly maintain their vehicles! I thank God that we made it home safely after the dangerous situations we were put in due to the vehicles Chalis rented to us.

THEEEEEE WORRRSEEEEE CAR RENTAL COMPANY !!!! IF YOU WANT TO GET ROBBED OR SCAMMED FOR YOUR MONEY BOOK WITH THEM!!!! RUN FOR YOUR LIFE AND DONT LOOK BACK!!! I booked a car rental on line and the price was $255 Canadian. Space when I got to Montego Bay the price went from $255 Canadian to $350 US. The lady at the counter said that the price changed because I didn’t have a gold visa. She then said to me that I needed to show my old drivers license. I told her I only had my most recent license. This license was a G class license which is the highest driving license in Ontario. I then scrambled to find my old license on my phone to no avail. She then told me that she would except the license I had which was not expired and then told me that I would have toPay $750 US for a deposit. This totalled over US$1000 although I agreed to the initial $255 CAD. The lady at the desk LIED to me about fees and stated it was on the Expedia website!!! No such thing ! I checked The website and it was clear about all fees and license requirements. When I asked about coverage the lady said that if I scratched the car I would have to pay. But I was confused because she said there was insurance on the car. After looking at the car I began to doubt if I should take the car. It was old. The car looked like a beater. I then decided to change my mind and not go through with the rental. From the beginning the lady at the counter seemed very suspicious and continuously spoke about accidents that I may get into while she was knocking the desk for good luck. I believe this company is a scam and will take advantage of anyone who is not smart or has much knowledge of renting cars.If your looking for professionals and a company that sticks to their fees, rules, policies posted on third party websites this company is NOT the one !!! Better u borrow someone car on the street!! Or book with a known company from the airport. I WILL BE REPORTING THEM TO EXPEDIA AND EVERY WEBSITE THEY POST THEIR CARS ON!! They have no business doing business with honest people. There is a possibility that they decided to add additional fees to my rental and give me a junk car because I am a foreigner. The only professional one was the shuttle driver.

I am writing this review, because I Gauntlet Brown rented a car from Chalis in late October. Shortly after leaving the airport with the rental car, I had to return to the airport because they gave me a faulty car. The second car after a few days I was driving the car to my destination when I noticed the brake was faulty. I made it to my destination but upon trying to park the car it wouldn’t stop due to the faulty brakes and it got hit on the back left. I expressed my disgust to the Chalis worker, at the service I’ve been receiving from them. Instead of resolving the issue, they tried to place blame on me. I’ve been a driver for over 40 years with a clean driving record, they proceeded to tell me everyone says that. I told them I would not move the car from where it was, so they needed to come change it. They came and changed it, but then they charged my card 300 plus dollars for damages that were of no fault of mine. I must say that I would never rent another car from Chalis car rental. It has to be noted that they have to deal with people better. I would like to give them a negative five review. They deserve to be shut down, I hope that people will heed this review boycott Chalis car rental and do not bring their business there.

Charged us thirty bucks for a hub cap, was already like that but didn't have time to argue. Car was 16 years old, different price than online. I like to support local business but don't.

We've used Chalis at least 3-4 times now and have found them to be a rare diamond in the rough, amongst many car rental companies in Mobay trying to scheme people into higher rates. At Chalis, what you're quoted is what you pay - and they won't try to make up some scratch on the bumper to charge you for damage. It's a shame so many other places run scams, so try Chalis to save yourself the headaches!

Been renting from Chalis since 2002 and have developed a good relationship with this company. Not the newest cars but very well maintained and reliable. Have never had on broken down on me in all those years. You will never get a better price anywhere else.

I rented a car for 10 days. It was a very good experience the second time around after budget car rental take my reservation and had no car for me. I reached out to Chalis Car Rental a second time and they were very accommodating. Big up to my local car rental. 5 STARS.

Please don’t rent a car ! They scam you .. 80. US for a hubcap that was broken when we got the car and we had an old car that looked like it was “ my old uncle Bob’s car” it was scratched it was dirty , it smelled, the radio looked like it would fall out and they where sooo rude .. very disappointed ! Never go back to this country again !! I give this business a zero ! The 5 stars are their friends or family !! Don’t rent you will be sorry !!!
