The best thing is that it’s free! The train ride costs $3-4 but the entry to all the outdoor and indoor exhibition is totally free. There are spots where you can give donations too. Great place for family hangouts. It’s very kid-friendly. Some trains were accessible. It took me around 30mins to walk around and probably 1hr if you wanna look carefully into the exhibition and history. Free parking. Very spacious parking lot. The restroom wasn’t that clean. There were some bugs walking around in summer. But cleanliness in other part of the museum was good.

Very nice place. Plenty of parking ( and it's free). Entrance is also free the train ride is only 4 Dollars adult and 3 for kids. This place is full of history and legends. I'm sure the little ones will love this place as much as my toddler did.

Beautiful and fun place for kids plus lots of memories of old train which every single of those locomotives and cabins have tons of history. Parking available enough on front. Fair tickets for entry plus train ride which was awesome. Restroom was clean and all people who work there was super nice and helpful. Thanks to you all

We always try to go and take the train ride whenever we're in the area, fun place for the kids and adults as well.

Entrance is free (but donation is suggested). Tiny train ride is $4 for adults, and $3 for children and seniors. This is a lovely place to visit. The staff is very friendly. I enjoyed my visit. The gift shop is worth a visit as well. They have the best sasparilla soda I've ever tasted, along with root beer and other flavours from a small company.

Cute little train museum perfect for the rail fan. My son would have gone nuts over this place when he was younger. It's not that big, but has lots of actual trains to look at, party/picnic areas, a train ride, and a gift shop. Some parts were closed when we were there due to the pandemic. A few of the trains need some serious maintenance; the cable car was in really poor shape, which made me sad.

My son and his wife selected this venue for 2nd birthday party for their train-enthusiast son, Riley. It was a wonderful time had by all !

Extremely cool spot. Went here for a picnic potluck with a bunch of friends, rode the little train, looked at exhibits, chilled outside. Obviously more meant for little kids but a bunch of dorky adults can also have a good time.

Lovely little gem, of the bygone Era of steam rail. Great display of the steam engines which were the backbone of industrialization for over a century. Several engines had cabs open to climb into - though most of the interesting bits - knobs, levers, sight-glasses, gauges and such, have been removed. Still a very impressive museum of train history. The exhibition hall closed for covid, but the park open and free admission. Super glad that I found it on a detour. Would have loved it even more as a kid.

Great place to take kids and also great for adults... Free to check out. Donation suggested but now required. It's a shame you can't go inside the trains (you can go inside a couple of the locomotive cabins).

Classic train museum located in Griffith park. If you haven't came here, you are missing out. It's FREE. They even got a cute little train ride that goes around the whole park. You can also host a birthday party here. Cool little spot to take your little one and get some steps in. One thing I would like to add, this place can use a good ol pressure wash session. Alot of dirt and spiders on the trains. Could use some cleaning. Just saying....

This was a great place to bring the children and i think it makes a great date also. It was fun seeing all the huge trains. They have a space available to have a party on the train and its very spacious. We rented a train for March and we look forward to having a great day. I also enjoyed the train ride, being that i had a stressful week it was relaxing to just sit there and ride the train and enjoy the view.

Brought a big group of kids, with their parents, for an end of summer field trip. Kids are really thoroughly enjoying all the train cars and being able to interact with some of the train stuff. Great place for train enthusiast young and old.

Very nice locomotive displays for children and adults . Parking is free as is the entry. There's a small scale train for children to board and get an overall ride of what it feels like to be a conductor.

It's so cute here! It's free and there is a parking lot. Has a handful of interesting train displays and historical blurbs. You can walk onto a few of them and check them out. Has a small gift shop, but it's very children oriented, wish they had more gifty trinkets. There is a small train ride for a fun whimsical time. Reminds me of a train station in Fallout 4 lol

Travel Town is a step back in history of the American Railroad. Several static displays of steam locamotives 🚂. We celebrated our grandson's 4th birthday making this the fourth family generation to visit this train museum. Free admission except for the train ride.

Travel Town Railroad was the highlight of the day for my son. There are trains of many different varieties, that you can see, and even explore some too. This free to enter destination has a lot to offer for those interested in trains, or even just looking to get out and do something as a family.

There is plenty of parking for Travel Town Railroad so no need to worry about that. The actual area is pretty small and can be done in about 1-2 hours if you take your time and 1 hour if you do it quickly. Seeing the old trains are cool and there are a lot of them asking to see. The gift shop is little and kind of expensive. The train ride isn't expensive and it's cool to ride to get a quick look at the whole area. Best of all it's free to get in so overall it's worth a trip to check this place out.

Travel Town Railroad has a nice collection of engines and rolling stock. They also have a small gauge train that you can ride on. The park is well kept up and the QR codes next to each item has a wealth of information.

Some of the trains are currently being repainted, so you won’t be able to access certain areas of the hangar. Still plenty to see and some trains you can even enter and touch stuff. The mini railroad is always working. Last ride is 30 minutes before closure, adult ticket is $4, children under twelve - $3. Also this is a great place for picnicking, and it can also be reserved for groups in advance!

Such a hidden LA gem! Wonderful and educational, the travel town volunteers and staff were so polite and answered our questions regarding the trains. Scan the QR codes throughout the park for more information on the trains as well.

Good place for kids especially toddlers! The train ride is a must! Lots of parking. Easily can spend 2 hours here walking around and they have bunch of picnic tables or you can have a picnic on the grass area. You can bring your toy train since they have a train track inside one of the building. Or you can buy a train in the gift shop. Overall, good experience for my toddlers.

Who doesn't love Trains. Am I right. Definitely a good family friendly place in Griffith Park in Los Angeles California, and did someone say FREE!!!!!!!! That's right admission here is Free. You'll find lots of old steam locomotives and coaches for you little ones to climb on. I went here lots of times when I was little and have fond memories of my visits. There's also model trains and some antique cars on display and a mini train you can ride. Great place to come to if you have little children as well as to satisfy the little child in you. It's located off the 134 Fwy in Glendale California. Easy to find. Take the 134 fwy to Griffith Park and get off at the exit for Zoo Drive and turn left onto Zoo Drive and you'll see it on the left

We are huge fans of The Travel Town Railroad. Spent a gorgeous afternoon among the old time engines. What a gem. The small train ride was cool. The gift shop was nice and we picked up a couple of souvenirs. I will definitely be bringing the kiddos back many times over.

Needs updating! Another great LA institution that needs upgrades to attract a larger more diverse crowd. Mostly mommies taking their Toddlers for park meets. Mini train is quaint and fun for kids. Get creative people, you'll get bigger crowds.

I didn't pay attention to their days & hours of operation, but visited on a Monday, when we had the time. Not much inside stuff was open to see. The building with inside museum displays was closed. & since they moved & down-sized the gift shop, there wasn't much of the (once) interesting historical items to be seen. I think that I just visited on the wrong day of the week that time? Went another time with a group and got to see much, much more. Definitely had more fun with the variety of activities when everything was open.

Wonderful day trip. Last time I was here I was a child, I have vivid memories of being able to climb all over and inside the trains, since then they have put up a lot of safety precautions. Clean and well maintained. Easy to traverse with strollers. I wish we still had the freedom of my childhood (cerca 2000) of the trains being open to climb on/in. However I understood the reasoning for safety and to protect these historical machines from damage. We will be returning 😄

Wonderful experience with the family being it was our first time here for all 3 of us. Even amidst all the Covid restrictions indoors all staff were very warm and helpful. Thank you so much for the wonderful new memory🚂

So much fun! I expected to spend an hour here but ended up spending at least 2 hours. We could have easily spent more. There are areas to have picnic and parking is free. Train ride is a few dollars and I believe it goes around twice. ($7 for one adult and one child) PROTIP: BRING TOY TRAINS FROM HOME. There is a train set area and everyone brings their own Thomas the Engine, etc. from home. If you forget or don't, you can get one from the gift shop if your child is upset. A few kiddos were upset so to save yourself the trouble, try to bring a train or two from home. My child doesn't care about trains and I still had to get one from the giftshop.

This 16-inch gauge custom-built model railroad is a treat for youngsters and interested others too. The ride runs twice around the Travel Town Museum grounds at Griffith Park to showcase the variety of rare locomotives on display and invites a closer inspection.

Loved the upkeep on the trains. The kids are able to go inside and explore the trains. They have a train ride. Entrance to travel town is free, but you can donate.

The trains are very cool and it's neat that you're able to get close to them without worrying about fences.

  • 5/5 D&D E. 2 years ago on Google
Nice place to see big engines up close, they may not run but the kids love them. You can rent an area to celebrate birthdays, check their website. Plenty of room for kids to run around, just be careful that they don't trip on the tracks. Free parking, public restroom, a train ride for kids that is cheap, a nice gift shop on site and some picnic tables have painted tracks so kids can play with their engines on them..

  • 5/5 Sheena Marie O. 1 year ago on Google
Easy place to find. Parking and entrance is free. The train ride goes around the track twice. Fun to take your kids to.

  • 5/5 Westley 1 year ago on Google
Travel Town and the Griffith Park Railroad was a fun way to spend a few hours of the weekend looking at trains up close and riding on a scaled down version. There’s numerous locomotives that you can get up close to along with plenty of passenger cars that you can walk through. Most of the engines and cars have had their equipment removed but you can really appreciate the sheer size of these train up close. Would recommend Travel Town over the smaller Griffith Park Railroad (they’re both the same organization) since Travel Town has exhibits and trains on display while south of the zoo, they only had the train ride.

  • 5/5 Alexander D. 2 years ago on Google
Another great place to visit that's FREE!! Be sure to ride the mini locomotive and leave a donation. Places like this thrive on patrons donation's to keep this place working. Checkout the cool old steam engines and learn a bit of railroad history.

  • 5/5 Rodolfo T. 1 year ago on Google
If your a fan of the locomotive, this is for you. This place is so amazing, so much history, beauty, and those magnificent trains. The whole family can enjoy, even a 2yr old. Great for picnics, or a nice stroll. Bring your camera👍

Great place for the family lots American history kids will love it.on the little train ride. Just the train ride it's $4.dollars seniors 6years old and kids are $3. Dollars not bad. It's worth it.

  • 4/5 Andreas B. 1 year ago on Google
Our kids love going here. The train ride is of course the highlight! Would be nice if shops (food) were open all the times we have been here as they are usually closed and I am not sure if breathing all the exhaust from sitting on the train is very healthy, but I am sure a true train enthusiast would just laugh at me for not appreciating the authenticity of the experience 😅 Recommended!

  • 5/5 Saramay B. 1 year ago on Google
This is a beautiful museum to visit for all ages. You can take a train ride for only $4 the entrance to the museum is free. Plenty of space to have a nice picnic with the family will absolutely enjoy this museum.

  • 5/5 shawn f. 1 year ago on Google
Great place to take the kids. Sadly, the trains are no longer open to explore the cabin space. Cabin space is now closed off. Fun place though.
