If you are on a budget for a place to go, please take time to read my review. I included examples of what to expect in hopes you will not be as surprised as I was. They did not ruin my experience at all, but they were a lesson in being better prepared next time. With SMR being primarily geared for winter, I knew the shops and activities would be limited during the summer months. I wasn't there for any of that. I just needed an escape from life for a few days. Due to injuries, I've been out of touch for over 2 years so my first lesson was that the price we initially see doesn't include all the fees that will be associated with the room. In some places I researched, the taxes and fees were more than the cost of the room itself. At SMR they were at least equal. The total was going to be around $900 for 5 days & 4 nights. Roughly $450 for the room. $450 in taxes and fees. It can get a little confusing because the pricing can change depending on what you're doing. If you do not need daily maid service, that's a savings. For example, if you stayed 1 day, the cost might be $250 (Room/Taxes/Fees) If you stayed 2 nights, the cost might be $450 - So it's more, but it's not twice the price because you did not need maid service the 2nd day. It saved you $50 overall. **Please note these are numbers I made up as examples and are not actual pricing. They're just to reflect how the price structure seems to be designed as observed by my stay.** As for my experience - Every staff member I passed greeted me. Everyone was genuinely personable. The place was mostly quiet. They have music that's broadcast publicly in several areas. I wasn't a big fan of it, but that's just my taste. If I'm on top of a mountain, I enjoy the peace and quiet of nature over music. Fortunately, it didn't start till around 9am so as long as I was up early, I could sit outside and enjoy the silence. Snowshoe has been attempting to growing as a summertime destination. In addition to weekend events, they have considerable mountain bike related activities as well as a mountain bike rental shop. With the rental, you get a helmet, chest and shin armor. This is another place where you need to understand their pricing. The advertised rental fee does not include the lift ticket for the bicycle. The folks inside the shop were extremely helpful with everything except what to expect as far as total cost. I didn't feel they attempted to deceive me although I told them I had zero experience with anything related to what I was asking about. In short, the sign says rentals start at $79, but that's for a kid's bike and does not include the lift ticket to get the bike back to the top of the hill. By the time I was ready to go, my cost for a one day rental was almost $240. $150 for the bike. $60 for the lift ticket. The rest were other taxes and fees. It's important to know that the play pass you get from the front desk at check-in does not cover this either. Bicycles require their own pass. So yeah, I had a little sticker shock when the final cost was more than twice what I expected it to be. Other than those two examples, the pricing for everything else felt like what you would expect at a tourist destination. Starbucks $7-ish for a large Mocha. Pizza $26 for the smaller of the two sizes. I want to say it was around $7-$8 for a single scoop of ice cream in a waffle cone. Fountain drinks were $3-$4. There is a small convenience store at the far end of the resort. It carries the essentials - to include distilled water for CPAP machines, which was nice. Overall, I had a great stay at the location. The climate was amazing my entire stay. The room was very nice and felt clean. $900 for 4 nights in a room that was like a small apartment with a pretty decent view off the balcony is nothing to complain about. I would certainly do this again some time. Oh, and they do give a discount for military which for me, saved like $60.

On July 31, 2023, I attempted to attend a work-related conference at Snowshoe Mountain Resort. When my coworker made reservations for me three weeks earlier, he told me I’d be staying at a separate lodge from my coworkers because I’d specified that I was disabled and required a bathroom with a nonslip shower stall that had grab bars, and a toilet that was knee high (about 17” to 19” from the floor, according to standards set by the Americans with Disabilities Act). The lodge that my other coworkers were staying at—Mountain Lodge—offered no such accommodations in any of its 145 rooms. I was booked at Expedition Station, which was half a mile from my coworkers. When I arrived at the resort, I checked in at Allegheny Springs, the appointed hub for the conference. Apparently, I was the only person needing such accommodations because none of the staff knew how to respond to my request about the bathroom requirements. My husband and I travel fairly regularly. We rarely have to even request a special room because grab bars, a nonskid shower, and 17” toilet are standard. I was taken aback that such simple requirements were not found at what looks like the largest lodge on the grounds and where the majority of people were staying. Although I was handed a hard-copy map of the area, I found no road signs directing me to Expedition Station and my Google Maps didn’t work due to a lack of internet reception. After several drives up and down the mountain and staring at the printed map, I finally found the Seneca Lodge, which I used as a reference point, and a street called Expedition, so I turned in and found construction work being performed. The place looked deserted and the parking lot was a mess of gravel. The sign on the actual building read, “Expedition Rentals.” I did not know if this was where I was supposed to go as I saw no clear sign saying, “Expedition Station.” The parking lot was filled with construction equipment, gravel, uneven terrain, and no designated place for handicapped parking. I called my boss to let him know what was going on. Cell reception is spotty up there, but text message worked better than calling. Once we were finally able to connect he immediately went to Allegheny Springs to try to resolve the issue. He returned an hour and a half later, saying he spoke with the sales manager who said the property was exempt from ADA regulations because it was private property. Regulations aside, I couldn’t be the only paying customer who needed grab bars, nonslip shower surface, and a 17” high toilet. The proposed solution was for me to park in the Seneca Lodge parking garage, take the elevator to the main floor, and then call the shuttle cart to take me where I needed to go. By this time, my nerves were frazzled, and I felt less than, othered and dehumanized. I did not want any more attention paid to me, and yearned for the same freedom to come as go as my able-bodied colleagues. Since that obviously wasn’t an option, I went home.

This an incredible place and it has so many things to offer. I visited during early fall season and the resort was so nice and the view was spectacular. The mountain biking is a great activity to do during summer and fall.

Visited for the UCI mountain biking World Series. Wonderful place, and the staff (especially Heather, Kelsey, Missy & Preston!) we're some of the nicest people you could wish to meet. Looking forward to coming back! Thank you West Virginia. Almost Heaven!

Spent the weekend at Rimfire Lodge this weekend. Our room really was adorable! It did seem however that the lobby and our hallways seemed to be unfinished/under construction. Also it was slightly upsetting that our bathroom didn't have any lotion or liquid soap.. Can't beat the views of our room though! Will definitely be back!

Snowshoe mountain ski resort is a very good place for skiing. It’s freelance trail is something very special and creative and must try when you go. But it’s lifts are really sucks, there system is very old and somebody is scanning you with a little machine before getting to the lifts. And that makes a lot of traffic specially in the easy trail. Apart of that, it’s a very recommendable place.

We are from Florida. I took my grandkids 4, 6 and 7 to learn to ski here in January. As I write this, we are planning a trip back. They have a great ski school for children!
