Price range: 15-30 Value for money: Yes, good portions and TASTY Overall rating: 9/10 Very hip yet authentic-feeling restaurant. Staff were laid-back and friendly. Loved the char-grilled fare and atmosphere. The shakshuka was awesome.

Generous, vibrant food with Incredible flavours. Place was packed on the Friday night I was there and for good reason. Great vibe, will be back again next time I’m staying in the neighbourhood.

We went here looking at the google reviews thinking it would be good but we were in for disappointment. The food came out cold. Minced-lamb sausage was charred dry and falafel was cold. To top it all off, their service was something. The waitstaff spilled water on the menu and there was no acknowledgement of it at all. They picked up our plates before we could say we were done and told us to leave in 10 mins. For the price I paid, I would have liked a little better food and hospitality.

Have returned because I enjoyed my first visit so much when wandering through the area. Not surprised to discover it’s a bit of an establishment. Casual, friendly atmosphere and service. Edit: if you visit this place yourself, this place is always packed. Recent obvious fake negative reviews, from a certain group of people with a particular political view, with no legitimate comment why, which really says more about the sinister and hateful intentions of these people. One commented worms in salad which is laughable, it’s not “salad” as this person if they ever set foot in the store would know, it’s fattoush & there wouldn’t be 1.5K positive reviews if this was remotely true.

I haven’t been so surprised in a very long time. It looked promising from the start, but turned out to be the most delicious chicken pocket I’ve ever had! Definitely will be back & perhaps become slightly addicted :-)

I LOVED the dip for the chicken plate, it’s packed full of garlic flavour. The chicken is tender, and service was fast on a Sunday noon. There’s a 10% surcharge on weekends. Will be back.

The food of this place is out of this world! So fresh, flavourful and yummy. Love the falafel with the parsley. It was so so good. Also loved the outdoor seating and the vibe it gave. It can get busy so make sure you get there early.

An Australian take on Egyptian food. Liked the service, the food options were great. The food doesn't taste very authentic, but they have a good take on it. Would go there again definitely. There is also a very cosy outdoor seating area at the back, great for good weather.

Love this place, have been back as the food is delicious and generous portion sizes. Great place to take vegan friends. Menu has a wide selection. So far all that I've tried has been tasty. Will definitely revisit and bring more friends. The atmosphere is also cool, interior decoration very rustic and relaxed.

A fully sick joint for a casual meal. Grab yourself a mixed platter, a hibiscus tea and a seat at the back (weather permitting)! Hella flavourful and food portions are generous so you will leave feeling satisfied. Lovely staff and service.

Went here for some appetisers before dinner and was very impressed! Chips were lovingly homemade and the addition of pepper was genius. The spiced meat flat bread was texturally delicious and, overall, the presentation and choice of serving dishes showed care and attention to detail. As well, enjoyed the outdoor seating - it was warm and comfortable. A well-rounded dining experience, deserving of 5 stars 👌🏼

We ordered by showing pictures of the reviews and asking what it was. Very tasty especially the charcoal chicken. The toasted flatbread with lamb also has a bit of spice to it which was very nice. Nice atmosphere and the staff were friendly and accommodating

The food was amazing - the dips were a standout and the portion sizes were large. We shared the mixed meat platter and the starter dips between two, which was plenty and left enough to take home afterwards. The staff were friendly and the service was attentive. However, there wasn’t enough seating inside - we had to sit out the front in order to not be sat at a bar seat, despite arriving before 6pm. We felt the tables were a bit small considering the size of the dishes as well. Overall, a great dining experience and would definitely return!

Yummy food, similar to lebanese food, but use some different spices...great service. No bookings taken, only walk ins. Casual setting, not the most comfortable seats, or could be my big bottom. Definitely be back. We got meat, vegy platter & a lovely lentil dish

Loved the mixed plate and the veggie mix plate. The fried cauliflower is so good and the little lamb sausages have a great herby flavour. Those fries were excellent too. They're seasoned with some kind of umami salty flavouring. The courtyard is the best place to sit when there is some sun available. Such a lovely place to get some afternoon sun.

Beautiful food ♥️ I have been to Cairo countless times and it is always great. Admittedly, every time I visit I always promise myself that I will venture out and try something new, but end up ordering the vegetarian plate again. Some of the main things I love about Cairo is that the food is healthy, hearty, and has beautiful vegetarian options. It’s also BYO wine! I hope that Cairo is here to stay because it is a spot I hope to return to sporadically for years to come.

Popular place, they take walk-ins (just be prepared for the waiting list), service is good, prices are decent and food is really great. We had the meat platters and everything was super tasty.

Food was delicious and tasted very authentic. Tastes like you are in the streets of Egypt. The food is cheap/reasonable and there are vegetarian options. The staff are great and the service is pretty quick. Place is fairly small but they do have some seating out the back

Tried the kofta and chicken pockets, and they were amazing - the meat was super tender and full of flavour. The ingredients were so fresh and complemented the meat slices really well - salads, pickles and peppers. Also tried the mint tea and coffee from the stove, which were great. All told, cost us a less than $40. Loved this place.

What more do you want when the best Egyptian restaurant in Sydney is only walk-ins, (so you don't have to fuss about bookings), provides takeaway, is cheap, has great service and dishes out quality food! The sugar cane is THE BEST I've had in Sydney. The mixed meat plate, falafel, maalouba, hawawshi, karkade were so awesome as well! The only gripe I had was that the chips were a bit too salty so I would say avoid the chips but anything else is top notch food. This is one of my favourite restaurants ever!

My favourite food middle eastern food in Enmore - I really didn't want to write this review because I wanted to keep my local favourite haunt a secrete. You can't book and need to get in early to get a table. Order the mixed vegetarian or meat plate and you can't go wrong - we usually order one of each between the two of us and finish it off with sharing the honey balls served with fresh dollop cream and pomegranate desert. Consistently delicious!

Ok Food, Bad Service!!!. I went there with 5 other people. So there were six of us. We were requested to wait for seats to be available and the wait time was around 15 minutes. We waited for like 25 minutes and asked them again how long would it take, they asked us to wait for another 15 minutes. Meanwhile in our 45 minutes of wait so far, they had accommodated more then 35 people in the restaurant (and no, they do not take bookings). Finally when we requested them to break us down into smaller groups for us to get better chances in getting seats. they refused. 10 minutes later we asked them again (total wait time now 1 hour), and they were like If you have a problem you can leave, Do you want a table or not?? And very rudely. This is like the first time this has happened in Australia to me. And the food isn't even special. not sure why would they have such big egos?

  • 4/5 Jane D. 2 years ago on Google
A lovely and unique experience! The presentation was aesthetically pleasing and the flavours were on point! Service was a tad busy so food took a little while to arrive. Understandable as the restaurant was very busy! Would visit again! Restaurants allow walk-ins so no need to make a booking prior. The cauliflower pocket is the same as the cauliflower in the Mixed Vegetarian Plate.

One of my favourite places to eat in Sydney! Food is always delicious. I do prefer the skinny fries with the seasoning they used to do compared the thicker ones I had recently. However this is minor compared to the consistently good food! The falafels are soo good

A little corner shop near Enmore Theater. We came here for dinner before catching a show at Enmore Theater. We waited for about 10 mins for an outdoor seat (luckily we were a tad earlier). The table however was a bit flimsy and not a lot space if you order a few plates of food. We ordered 4 dishes to share - the meat platter, veg platter, hawawshi and chips. Love all the dishes. Flavourful and reasonable portion. Love the pickles that came with it. Overall experience was good. Would come back again to try other dishes.

Fantastic place and delicious food. We had great service thanks to Mucky! Really tasty dishes and we were quickly served. The meat dishes were amazing and not at all pricey for what you get. Will definitely be back to this place

A definite must visit ( and then multiple visits after that). Mouth watering food, the Hawawshi was amazing - crispy pastry filled with juicy lamb mince, the Fattah was equally on point with homely flavours. LOVED IT

  • 4/5 Tony 10 months ago on Google
The food was fantastic and easily the best falafel I have ever had. Fresh and not dry like they can be. these were green inside and so tasty. The food was great but worth the visit for the falafel with garlic salsa.

  • 4/5 Ally N. 10 months ago on Google
Tasty food, pretty decent sizes. The chicken plate and sweet potato chips were exceptionally good. Would have preferred the lamb dish to have some dip or sauce. Kept bread separate so it was gluten free. A bit cold with all the doors open, only one small cup of water each and the fork was quite bent. Not clear if it was table or counter service and no one walking around checking everything was fine. Bit on the more expensive side for what it was but tasty nonetheless.

First time for me today at Cairo Takeaway. I had a pleasant experience, food was quite nice, the guys in the kitchen were literally flying, my wife and I were served in about 15min even if the place was packed and they had many deliveries. I tried the Egyptian beer(it's a lager). I think I'll be back... And next time, if they are consistent, I'll change my 4 star review into a 5 star one

The Falafel is good however The problem is I bout 10 pieces takeaway and while i am eating the 7th one I found tiny rocks under my teeth then I through away the rest I hope you rectify the problem and you spend more time cleaning all items of the falafel before grinding them Edmond

Was here for lunch just now. I LOVED this place. I had a mixed meat plate (picture #1) with a hibiscus drink. It was yummy! Really really nice. They had a nice, cosy area at the back - in addition to the indoor dining area. Good options for vegans (picture #2). Very friendly staff!!

Fresh and interesting food in a casual environment that let's you explore the relatively unknown Egyptian cuisine in Sydney. Must try the Koshari a mixture of; rice, lentils, macaroni, a tomato salsa and crispy fried onions is a hearty medly of textures that will keep you fueld for the day.

A very good restaurant with semi-Egyptian taste falafel. The place is cozy, with friendly staff. There is also a wait time. For the people who like to eat lots of bread, you gotta ask everytime and one bread is given every time. Food tasted: Falafel Plate & Mixed Meat Plate It was delicious, however it is not enough for three people. There is no sink to wash your hand, but there is a toilet. Thought there would be some Egyptian songs, but Mexican it is.

  • 5/5 Basel Q. 3 years ago on Google
Very tasty food. As the name suggests it's good for takeaway. There is also some seating options for a quick bite. My favorite thing I tried in my first visit was the Hawawshi, but keep in mind that it has a spicy kick to it, kinda mild but some, like my wife, might not be able to eat it.

  • 5/5 D D. 3 years ago on Google
Fantastic food. Couldn't get enough of the maalouba from the first mouthful. We also got the charcoal chicken pocket plate which my companion loved.

  • 5/5 Paperbagman555 3 years ago on Google
Outstanding food, affordable for how flavoursome it is and the restaurant has a lovely quiet sitting area at the back away from Enmore rd. The pitas may be on the smaller or thinner side but I have eaten here twice now four months apart and was craving that chicken seasoning on the lead up to my second visit. Great portions for the mix meat plate and the sides were delicious, especially the sauces and slow cooked soft veges. One of my new favourite places to eat around what is already one of the best areas for food you can go to in Sydney.

  • 5/5 Ryan W. 3 years ago on Google
Our Egyptian friend recommended this place to us and when I first got here this corner shop reminded a similar spot somewhere in Newtown as well where we had breakkie before. The shop has the falafel spot right in front of where you enter and a long bench to prepare food further in. There a few tables inside and outside by the window and two long window bar on the other end. Staffs are really friendly and the food comes at large portion, esp. the pocket plate. Food is excellent and drink is refreshing. The charcoal chicken is a little bit of dry though. The pilaf and the flatbread are all tasty. Will come back and try more

  • 5/5 Liam W. 3 years ago on Google
This brilliant little spot is perfect for takeaway or dine in. The vegetarian dishes are superb but the chicken plate is also to die for. The falafel are perfectly made and delicate with wonderful flavour. This is a must hit place

Super fresh, tasty and well-priced Egyptian food. The servings are large and had the perfect meat to sides to bread ratios! The platters will give you the best opportunity to sample the menu, but would also recommend the Hawawshi (meat pancakes). A very popular spot and as they don't accept bookings there can be a wait... But the line moves quickly and it is worth it! 🇪🇬 🥙

  • 1/5 Michael 3 years ago on Google
Veru average food. Over priced...would honestly give it 0/5 especially becuase of the bad service. Alot of these reviews are from white people/ hipsters that simply don't understand what a rort their prices are and how mediocre their actual execution is of basic middle eastern dishes

  • 5/5 Sophia M. 3 years ago on Google

  • 4/5 Guirgis N. E. 3 years ago on Google
I tried the traditional Egyptian dish, Koshari, it tasted very similar to what you would typically have in Cairo, the only thing that was missing is the condiments that are usually served with it (chili sauce and vinaigrette). The staff was friendly and there are a few tables at the back of you want to eat in.

The food was really tasty and good. The delicious marinate for the Charcoal Chicken Pocket goes through the soft tender chicken brilliantly. The Slow Cooked Lamb Pilaf Rice is rich, with lean lamb meat and full of flavour, without it swimming in fatty juices. Highly recommended!
