This is a great park but plan ahead if you are going hiking around. There was no real trailhead and the trails weren't marked very well. More than once we missed a turn. That being said if you look online you can find a map or use your GPS to navigate. There were some nice hikes, a lot of trees, rocks, water, and falls that were pretty.

We did the waterfall section of the trail from the middle school. It was a 2 mile round trip hike. It wasn't super easy but it was easy enough that our 5 year old was able to do the whole thing with us! Well maintained and used. We saw several people but it was by no means crowded.

Absolutely beautiful nature preserve, although they don't take the word preserve seriously enough as they recently tore down a huge amount of it to develop 😑 What's still there is so peaceful and tranquil that it's definitely still worth going to. A good place to hike, boulder, or take pictures.

A lot of really nice hiking trails, and huge boulders at one end of the preserve. There’s a nice stream running through the preserve as well as a few waterfalls. Definitely one of my favorite areas to hike.

Excellent place for bouldering and hiking. Dog friendly and beautiful landscape. Restaurants close by to get food or a beverage before or after hiking.

Will be a great place to hike through the woods at some point in the future. Huge boulders to climb around on. Presently the trails are poorly marked and the posted directions are difficult to follow. More than normal hiking trip hazards of exposed roots and a lot of rocks on the trails. Will probably be back and better prepared.

The preserve is a great destination. The trail alone isn't anything incredible as a hiker but the boulders, creeks, and waterfalls are worth it. There is a nice small parking lot and at first it's noisy and hard to get immersed so close to the traffic. But eventually the sound of water drowns out the traffic and the mossy rocks that are the namesake of the preserve capture your attention. We drove from Montgomery almost an hour and a half away but it was def worth the trip.

Hiked to the the high falls. Beautiful area to hike but to the high falls is not an easy hike. I would describe it as a moderate level. It is an incline with lots of rocks to navigate past and over.

Beautiful waterfalls and good trails. A little to many people for me. It's 350 acres in the town of Hoover, not far from Birmingham. Houses are built all around the borders of the preserve, but has plenty of wooded area and privacy. Trails are not very hard and lots of them.

Beautiful park, but why call it a preserve when its constantly having portions of forest developed. The expensive housing project eating up the park is called The Preserve too, which isn't very true or logical. Very pretty park though

Beautiful nature hike with paths, through a boulder field, down to a waterfall. It’s an easy to medium trailβ€” good for kids (as long as you mind the edges and are safe). Natural stone stairs have been added in places but there is a slope downhill. At the base, there is a bridge over the creek to the waterfall. The majority of the trails are NOT wheelchair accessible. Many people walk their dogs there and have photography sessions. These are best when there has been rain and the waterfall is full (it can be a trickle when it’s been dry). The boulders are known throughout the southeast as some of the best boulders for traverse climbing (climbing around) as well as practicing inverted climbs (under the rock face) over crash pads. There as also at least one place to top rope (place a rope, and climb up). There is plenty of parking. There are porta potties at the trail entrance. There is also a good pizza place, Veccia, across the street. I LOVE to hike this area with my four and six year olds.

Nice little park with huge boulders to walk through. The waterfall has little water even after the rain but it is the summer so.

23,000 steps to do the blue and white trail. Took 3 hours with only picture breaks. Not an easy hike if you have knee issues. It hadn't rained much but there were still some beautiful water features! Great way to disconnect despite the road/ vehicle noise nearby.

My Notes: The trail is moderate level. Less than 3 miles in a loop. A Beautiful area to walk, hike & take pictures. A walking stick will help in some areas. Wear good gripped-bottom shoes. Going in to visit the falls is a downhill path so coming back to the car, it’ll be uphill. There are a lot of rocks to navigate past/around and over. So know your limits, pace yourself, catch your breath & watch your step (rocks & possible snakes). There are two main paths - white & blue trail. If it’s your 1st time going, have a map trail guide with you b/c the trails are poorly marked in some spots and one could get turned around and/or go the wrong way. The are some stone stairs/steps in some places within the surrounding areas. Use bug spray before entering. There is plenty of free parking spaces. There are no restroom building/facility but there are some portable potties at the trail entrance. Depending on the amount of rainfall and season, the flow of the falls will vary from nothing (dry) to full flowing. Enjoy!!

Great place to see unique rock formations and go on a wonderful hikes! If you just go to bolder field (at the entrance) it's pretty cool but hiking there is great too! Most trails are pretty narrow so not great for large hiking groups and there can be a good bit of poison ivy in the summer.

This morning we hiked at the Moss Rock Preserve in Hoover. We parked at the first entrance and hiked the white trail all the way to the Moss Rock Falls. It was 2.8 miles, round trip. Along the trail we saw several oakleaf hydrangeas blooming, some that were 10'-12' tall.

This is a beautiful public nature area with walking/hiking trails. This was my second time here and proved very enjoyable. I went with a father-child outing from church. One of the men is a botanist and talked about much of the flora and fauna, which added to the experience.

Moss Rock Preserve is a hidden gem in Hoover. This is a great place for hiking and low level climbing. The trees are combined pines and hardwood. Many of the species are labeled. Lots of color in the fall. The trails are very accessible with three parking/entry zones. The waterfalls add to the beauty of the place.

This is the best park in Birmingham for a hike. There are a lot of varieties of things you can see. There are no fees to enter. If you are wondering if it's suitable for biking... It's not. Bikes are prohibited in this park.

We always love Moss Rock. The waterfall is very seasonal so make sure there is rain. There is an abundance of great hiking trails. Lots of elevation for good hiking. Make sure to finish with some Pizza or Tacos across from the parking lot.
