Omg, the food is so good. We had the baby Garcia, which is absolutely amazing. The flavor is astounding. Literally had the best arugula salad I’ve ever had in my life. I had the bacon and goat cheese and it was absolutely amazing. If you’re from the states, you know a lot of the vegetables don’t taste like vegetables and the salad was out of this world. We also had the Deluche crêpe dessert which was amazing. I also have a Tanga Ray and tonic, which was also excellent.

Lamb chops and Tannat wine were fantastic. The atmosphere is quiet old school if that’s your vibe. Gluten free options available.

One of the best steaks in Montevideo. The wine list is also really good as are the desserts. Highly recommended.

I have been doing the globetrotter thing again. Stopping in Montevideo for a week. My Airbnb host is amazing but suggested Garcia's and thank God he did. Hands down top 5 dining experiences I every. I upgraded the steak to the more aged grain fed type. Our family has a cattle ranch and this place has better beef. Just check it out; you will happy you had.

They served us steaks for tourists, there was nothing of premium quality in what they brought us. Wrongly cooked, we asked for medium rare and they brought 2 done steaks. They delayed in coming to check the problem so, meanwhile we were not sure to eat that ugly steaks or let it get cold, we were not sure they would have changed them. After a bit the waiter came and changed only one. The second steak was better but nothing special as the menu says. We had the same meal at Portón in Colonia del Sacramento, they never showed off to be the best of Uruguay but they were indeed the one who served the best meat my husband ever tried. I had calamari a la romana. The most awful I had in my life, the fish was OK fresh, but it was completely ruined by the breaded part and fried part. They breaded the rings at least 3 times. The result was just fried, badly fried, oily stuff. After 2 rings it becomes overwhelming. Overall we spent nearly 100 dollars and the food was mediocre. Not recommend at all.

A wonderful steakhouse in Uruguay that claims to have some of the best steaks and freshest meat. While I can't attest to that, I will say that their steaks are quite delicious albeit on the more expensive side in Montevideo. Service is great, as expected, and they speak both English and Spanish. I had their baby beef, the house salad, and their dulce de leche pancakes - the last of which is definitely something to be shared with 2 people as the sauce is quite thick. I didn't need to make a reservation as I came on a weeknight before 8 PM; however, around peak dining time (9 PM), the restaurant was packed.

I spent two weeks in Uruguay in pursuit of the best steak the country has to offer. Montevideo was my last stop and after some Google research, "Garcia" popped up a lot, people claiming their steak was the best they've ever had and so on. So there was a certain amount of pressure built up. Uruguay had performed extraordinarily well so far and I needed to know if "Garcia" truly is the golden standard, the Uruguayan GOAT. So I did what I had to do, rang up the place and got a reservation. Service was great from the start. We got a couple of appetizers and some Tannat, so far so good. The waiter suggested we'd both order the "baby beef garcia" so we'd both end up with a nice big chunk of meat on our table - I loved his style and wholeheartedly agreed. The anticipation grew as I was smelling the "parrilla" with all kinds of meat stacked upon it. I could then see the waiter coming towards our table, it had to be it. I braced myself, cut into the steak to check its color. It was perfect. There was only one thing left to do. I took my first bite. Tenderness, juices, the diverse roasting flavors from the grill - it was all there. My expectations were smashed, it truly was the Uruguayan GOAT. Well done Garcia, I take my hat off to you.

AMAZING ! Our best restaurant in montevideo. Went twice with the colleagues. I tested thé master baby beef (500g) and the picaña, both excellent, with a perfect cooking. The waiter was really excellent and nice.

A must go! Very nice service, pleasant atmosphere, nice comfortable music and the food… oh my! The meat was cooked to perfection and the glazed sweet potatoes were superb, an incredible surprise. For desserts, the classical “Dulce de leite” pancake is the normal choice, but I recommend the apple, “manzana”, pancake to a less sweet very good surprise.

One of the best steak restaurants in the town. The salsa as a starter is from another planet 🤩 and the baby steak another world 🤤

I ate here as part of a large group, so maybe that is part of the reason, but my steak came overcooked - I asked for medium but it came very well done (butterflied), I asked them to replace it and the second one came at least medium-well (3/4). I didn't want to send it back again so I ate that one, it was good but together with the other food, everything was just "good" not really living up to the hype in my opinion. The service was otherwise good though.

Great places for date night. Make sure to leave room for dessert because their dulce de leche is amazing.

Giving it a 5 star as one of the restaurants I have liked the most in Montevideo when it comes to meat. Had the master baby beef for 2 (jugoso) which was one of the best I have had. Also ordered the provolone with pancetta as an appetizer Whcih was super tasty. They had a wide selection of Uruguayan wines from different houses and vineyards and I had a tannat that I really liked. The desserts where not that outstanding compared to the rest of the meal

Quite a pricey place, but the quality of the meat is very high. Baby Beef and Master Baby Beef are highly recommended to give a try.

High price. TOURIST BEWARE. The waiters ask you how much to tip and very dishonest they put another amount. They don't have vegan options, you have to request.

First of all we did not want to sit on the outside space and we were kind of forced… all tables inside “reserved”… Nothing was really good, steaks: average, service mediocre and deserts (2 apple crepes), came with salt instead of sugar on top of them… what a terrible, unacceptable mistake! in any case, we could forget AND forgive if the manager or person in charge came to the table with some kind of apologies, but no one came. When the waiter came, he just offered “two options”: 1) to remove the deserts from the check (of course they better did that) OR 2) to bring another 2 new crepes the way they were supposed to be, “but they will be charged” Just mentioning it, it was absurd! The waiter even went further by saying that he personally would love to invite them to us, but that he will be charged if he did it… what a shame! Unfortunately we had an extremely bad experience at Garcia Punta Carretas that was very easy to fix if someone came to the table to apologize. Shame on them!

We would rate this a 3.5 - 4…..very busy and well regarded, but, our tuna carpaccio was still almost frozen and very wet, the baby beef steak was fine but without much grill taste, and the lamb chops arrive medium, although ordered rare. Service was quite good. But the whole experience was fine, not great!

Ate there twice while visiting. Tasty steak and salmon. Wine was great too.

Our meal was superb! Service is impeccable and the meal was timed to perfection. The baby beef premium was cooked to the doneness requested and my rosemary potatoes were absolutely delicious. The server treated our young sons, 8 and 10, like young gentlemen and they appreciated that respect. Excellent restaurant that may be a little pricey, but definitely worth every penny!

This restaurant was recommended by the gentleman who picked me up at the airport and brought me to the hotel. It did not disappoint. The steak was excellent, the wine list was good and the service was great.

Fab local cuisine - fresh shellfish, beef, lamb. All cooked over open fire. Nicely curated wine list. Make sure you try Tannat the local red. And save room for dessert as you should not miss the dulce de Leche pancakes. One plate is enough for several. Interesting aides. Especially liked the grilled provolone with olives, peppers and ham. The rack of lamb is just wonderful. Great service.

I was there for a dinner with business partners, proper Uruguayan meat experience. Classy interiors, excellent wines selection and wonderful dishes presented with love and care, highly recommended

🫤 Not as good as the Google rating. Fried fish is OK, very basic food. Nothing special here. Service was good. The seating is very poor quality and not as nice as pictured, unfortunately as it is near the water but with no water views.
