👍 Beautiful collection of tiles spread across three floors of this building. Some of these tiles are indigenous to Uruguay and others imported to build the collection. I particularly liked the Portuguese tiles (Room 17), some dating back to the 16th Century. The museum is free to visit. I was greeted... People often mention tiles, collection, museum,

Beautiful collection of tiles spread across three floors of this building. Some of these tiles are indigenous to Uruguay and others imported to build the collection. I particularly liked the Portuguese tiles (Room 17), some dating back to the 16th Century. The museum is free to visit. I was greeted by a very friendly lady who realised I was English and spoke to me about her Scottish mother. She wanted one day to visit her maternal ancestral home back to Edinburgh.

More pictures will be just spoiler of the of this lovely museum. Maybe beauty is not permanent because we change our esthetic through time, space and culture. But messages are immortal. We shall carefully read it in the patterns.

What a great surprise this place is! Three floors packed with tiles from the most basic of designs through to highly intricate art nouveau classics. Most were around the turn of the 20th century, with a few from as early as the late 1400s. And all housed in a marvellous Art Deco building with an original staircase. It's just off the major Avenida 18 de Julio, in a really nice part of the city. Staff were very friendly.

Lovers of Art Deco should visit this building. Check out the facade and the stairwell. Don’t miss the tiles in the bathroom of the original house.

A great collection of ceramics very well presented by manufacturing countries going back centuries. The staff is willing to answer any questions and help you understand the exhibits. Video stations shows how ceramics are handmade in various countries centuries ago to present. Very informative and educational. Recommend

Excellent museum. Beautiful tiles everywhere. Very well put together and a video playing showing how the tiles are made. Absolutely loved it! Highly recommend if you love azulejos.

The entrance is free, so that's a plus. On the ground floor there are some traditional azulejos, usually from Seville or other Spanish cities. They have some information in Spanish and some of the rooms have basic information in English and Portuguese as well. On the first floor there are some more recent or modern azulejos, also from Montevideo and other towns. You can expect to spend some 30 minutes in the museum

Not so much fun. Most of the exhibition looks the same. Good thing is that it is free.
