I just returned from a fabulous 3 countries whirlwind trip and one of the memorable places I stayed at was the Fauna, an upscale, “Feast For The Eyes,” beautifully redesigned boutique hotel in Montevideo. The hotel was lovely, quiet, clean, safe, and comfortable! Its proprietor Jerónimo was the consummate professional, who went above and beyond in making mine and my travel companions’ visit delightful and memorable! He was so friendly and fluent in English and Spanish which was a bonus for me since my Spanish was very limited. He gave great recommendations on where to go, what to see, and how to get around and was just a pleasant human being to be around! Jerónimo impressed me from the start, since I had emailed him 6 mos earlier with questions on personal travel concerns I had that he graciously and competently assisted me with. Also, his suggestions were invaluable! He had directed my group to El Palenque Restaurant for a great steak dinner, and needless to say it did NOT disappoint! It definitely was the BEST steak I had there, and was minutes away from the hotel by foot as well as the shops, restaurants, food stores, museums, markets, parks and the Rambla - “the longest sidewalk in the world!” The Fauna and Jerónimo are deserving of a 5-star rating. If I could give them a higher rating, I would do so with speed and alacrity!! ~Gina from North Carolina

Best hotel in Montevideo! Beautiful rooms, historic character, a really comfortable bed, and a great shower, all in a boutique hotel that has been lovingly and beautifully restored. PLUS Jeronimo the proprietor is extraordinary! He goes out of his way to provide great suggestions for local restaurants, wineries, museums, how to rent a car, etc. I would come back just for the hotel! Note, not all rooms have an outward facing window, some face inward to small private, plant-filled courtyards. These are very quiet and peaceful. Also, this hotel is great value for money!

This boutique hotel is absolutely gorgeous and carefully decorated (really curated). The beds are so comfortable, the linens are quality not thin and cheap, each room has it's own netflix, and the rooms have little enclaves of plants between them so it feels like you can open your window into nature. It's in a great location in old town. I absolutely love this hotel and highly recommend it. It's not marked in any way so you need to know what you're looking for.

Amazing hotel in a great location! Jeronimo was extremely helping in the booking process and Eduardo was an amazing host during our stay. Beautiful rooms and super close to cafes, restaurants, and even a distillery. It was our first time visiting from the US, and we will definitely stay here if we’re in town again.

The best accommodation experience I've had in years. Even when compared to the Mandarin Oriental, in Shanghai, I'd be tossing a coin between there and Fauna on where I'd prefer to return to again. The host, Jero, was nothing short of exemplary for a first-time visitor to Montevideo. He greeted us at the hotel door, even though we arrived outside of normal reception hours. The team at Fauna have created an interior oasis for the weary traveller. From a welcoming and comfortable room, recommendations on dining out, coffee, and even the places that don't cater as well for visitors. There is a coffee machine in the common area, and even local liquors for those wanting to partake in aperitifs or nightcaps. Hhis place has it all. I'd give it more stars if I could. Can't wait to return. Thanks for everything.

Beautiful small hotel, very clean, nice lounge area with coffee and fruit. Great location. Geronimo the owner went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable and help book and arrange for tours, laundry, and anything else we needed. Highly recommended. A peaceful, beautiful, comfortable oasis to return to at the end of a full day of sightseeing.

Impresionante, FAUNA esta a NUEVO estrenar !! Administrado por un superhost. FAUNA is a boutique accommodation, located in the heritage quarter of the city within a 1927 historic building recently renovated (2018). So you will appreciate the huge change in the outdated Google 360 picture. Fauna combines architectural elements from Uruguay's Golden Era with the comforts of contemporary lodging. FAUNA is eclectic and fun; It has a 'new vintage' aesthetic, combining furnishings from different eras, with contemporary art and other unique pieces created by the superhost. Art lovers will not be disappointed.

A jewell in the middle of the most interesting neighborhood of Montevideo. Incredible attention to detail, the lobby and rooms are decorated with restored Art Nouveau pieces, making each space unique. Our hosts were friendly, attentive, helpful, and natively fluent in English. Highest recommendation.

Fauna Hotel is a beautiful restored historic building with close attention to detail. Our room was beyond gorgeous and thee interior design should be award-winning. Our host, Geronimo was so fantastic and was able to give us suggestions on where to dine and we were so pleased. Also, thee restored furniture is museum quality. I would highly recommend Fauna Montevideo. The McCartneys winning

A wonderful boutique hotel in old town Montevideo. My wife and I stayed there for a few days before traveling to Buenos Aires, and we enjoyed our stay enough to book another 2 nights on our return trip. Our room was comfortable and clean, and the hotel is impeccably decorated and up to date. The owner recommended several excellent restaurants in the area (Es Mercat and Sometimes Sunday being particular highlights) and helped answer questions about the ferry as well. The price is an incredible value for the quality of the hotel and the excellent service. Lastly, they have a honey liquor at the bar in the common area that's (if I'm remembering correctly) locally made, and it's some of the best desert liquor I've ever tasted. We look forward to coming back someday!

I booked this hotel a few hours before arriving and didn't read the details that the front desk isn't manned 24/7. Completely my mistake. So I showed up before anyone was here, and thankfully they have a video doorbell so I was able to communicate with someone offsite. While I was wayy too early for my room to be ready they let me know when I could come back to drop off my luggage. I left to sightsee and received a text that my room was ready to check in early. Perfect because I needed a siesta. The hotel was kind enough to also whatsapp me a suggestion of what to do that night. Quiet hotel perfect for a good night's rest. No elevator or breakfast but I think they told me there is a free minibar in the lobby? 10/10 would stay again. Thank you for everything!

Flawless. FAUNA Montevideo is in the heart of the old city, in a very walkable area. The rooms and the public spaces are lovingly designed -- another reviewer called it "curated," and I agree -- and meticulously maintained. The proprietors and staff are kind and accommodating. No request is too small or too difficult. English is spoken so well that I rarely resorted to my schoolboy Spanish. Fresh fruit, coffee, and an open bar are complimentary and available 24/7. I left feeling refreshed and grateful. I can't wait to return.

Fauna is a lovely and whimsical boutique hotel in the heart of the old town of Montevideo. The hotel is tastefully decorated, welcoming, and very comfortable. The owners are extremely kind and provide a personal touch to the whole experience. This is definitely way better than staying at a regular big hotel chain. If you want a local experience, this is the play to stay! The rooms are unique and spotless, and the location is perfectly situated on the main walking street. Super close to the Port Market which is a great place to eat Uruguayan BBQ! Highly recommended overall!

From the outside, it is hard to see that this is a hotel, but the design of the hotel from the marble staircase to the architecture and artwork is beautiful. The bed was firm, with good quality linens. The room didn't have a separate chair for relaxing, but it did have a desk chair and a work space. A wide variety of teas, a kettle, and a small refrigerator were in the room, and coffee was provided but you needed to make it in the lobby. The lobby also had a nice liquor cabinet for guests to sample. The owners offered excellent service, answering our questions over email before we arrived, and then over Whatsapp while we were there. They had great recommendations for places to eat (Escondite and La Farmacía were excellent), things to do, and how to get around. Two things that weren't perfect: 1) The wifi in our room, the second room from the stairwell, was inconsistent. Even late in the evening, we had trouble with streaming. 2) The soundproofing of the rooms is good but not great. We could hear when our neighbors were having a conversation and playing music, although the soundproofing was good enough that we couldn't make out anything they were saying.

WOW!!! What an amazing stay!! I stayed here for a majority of my time in MVD. On my late night arrival Eduardo greeted me outside the hotel and ensured everything for a seamless check-in. He’s even a great map drawer. The space is SO THOUGHTFULLY curated. The vibe is great. Common area has local liqueurs available to guests at anytime (also fruits too!). The room was very clean. Loved the minimalist vibe. The next day, I met Jeronimo and this guy is amazing! He literally assisted me with any and every question I had. He also set me up with an amazing reservation at Primuseum on Sunday where there were very little options for eating. He provided so many tips and information about Uruguay. The entire staff was available by WhatsApp 24/7. They readily answered any questions I had. This was the best stay and as someone who works in hospitality (airline and hotel), I highly recommend this hotel. This is the place if you are in Montevideo. It’s also near everything along with the best restaurants in the city. STAY HERE!

FAUNA was a brilliant discovery ahead of our trip to Montevideo. Super stylish rooms, great location in the walkable Ciudad Vieja; close to restaurants, bars, and the Mercado del Puerto. Jeronimo is a fantastic host, and gave us loads of brilliant tips not just for Montevideo but for our whole time visiting Uruguay. Highly, highly recommend staying here!

Lovely boutique hotel in la Ciudad Vieja, walking distance to the Mercato del Puerto. Jeronimo and the staff are very welcoming. The decor of the hotel is very nice and nice design. The room is big enough and clean. As the hotel is in a pedestrian area, the rooms are very quiet. We really enjoyed our stay there.

Excellent accommodation in the heart of the Old Town of Montevideo. Very stylishly furnished accommodation, a warm host with top communication, and a comfortably furnished room that was perfectly clean. It is rare to experience such quality when traveling!

Im from Latvia and my boyfriend is from Uruguay. I booked hotel FAUNA as a birthday gift for my boyfriend. Gorgeous building, and it only gets more breathtaking when you walk in. We really loved the character of the hotel. Also, there were great restaurants within walking distance. We felt like at home. Thank you Jeronimo and all Fauna people for so warm and friendly welcoming.

Stylish, brand new and very comfortable boutique hotel in the old city. The owner, Geronimo, is a huge asset - full of great ideas on what to do, see and eat! He also has practical suggestions for other places to visit elsewhere in Uruguay :-) This is a no-brainer. Fantastic accommodation at a fantastic price with fantastic service!

Fantastic mini hotel in the old city centre of Montevideo. The rooms are brand new and very stylish. Very cosy hall area with jazzy music playing on the background, free fruits and a small lavazza coffee machine, where you can make yourself a coffee. The owner is super friendly, helpful and will provide you with any recommendations you may need. Highly recommended! If I happen to be in Montevideo again, I will definitely stay here. PS: and a nice coffee roasters cafe downstairs as an added bonus:)

Beautiful place to stay in the old city of Montevideo! What a design oasis in the middle of the old city of Montevideo! One can see immediately that there is a lot of attention put to the details and quality. Colonial meets modern is a good summary. Quiet, super clean, nice bed for a great sleep, free coffee from a Lavazza capsule machine, a little bar... The host and owner Jerónimo is super helpful and takes a lot of time to provide answers and to give you the best possible recommendations.
