This place is pretty darn good, simple menu with delicious items. We had a hotdog and hamburger combo that came with fries. Also ordered the Famous Hotdog and all of it was good. The chili sauce isn't your typically sauce and I think that's what makes it good, it has a bite to it.

Had the Chris's Famous Dogs!! They were incredible. 🙂👍. Met the owner who shared the history of the restaurant. I will definitely be back to try one of their burgers 🍔 😋 on my next trip through Montgomery.

Absolutely Amazing! Hasn’t changed a bit. The Hot dogs and special sauce are phenomenal!! The staff is friendly, courteous and funny! Owners are great and will take the time to talk with you. I grew up nearby and would stop in frequently as a kid with my Dad and then as I got older I would frequent when nearby. Moved away 20 years ago and today I was nearby so I went. So glad I did. Immediately felt like I stepped back in time. Food, service and quality was exactly as I remembered. Then I look up and there is Miss E still running all over the place. I remember her from when I was a child. She will make you feel right at home. If you are ever nearby, take a few minutes out of your day and step into a place where time stops and the food is phenomenal and tell the owners and Miss E hello. You won’t be disappointed!!!

My husband and I googled the best hot dog in Montgomery as we were passing through today and came across Chris’s Hot Dog which apparently has been a staple in Montgomery since 1917. We were expecting an amazing hot dog due to reviews..however, in my opinion which of course is just my take on is… this place is DISGUSTING! It has probably never be cleaned since 1917 either. The hot dog was nothing more then a hotdog on top of a piece of cheese with chili that looked more like diarrhea then chili. NEVER AGAIN! Do not believe the reviews! The only positive this place has was the nice server who we like to call “Bam Bam”.. because when she delivers your food , this is what she says. She was polite and quick . Honestly, if you are looking for a good hot dog.. must go to Hot Dog King in Newport News, Va.. NOW THATS A HOT DOG! I cannot believe the health department would pass this place in Montgomery, Al.

Our first time at Chris' and it definitely took us back in time. The Chris' original hotdog was excellent and the onion rings were some of the best I have ever had! It was an all around excellent experience!!

We had a very good time here and had two very nice waitresses. The food tasted great but must say the presentation could have been a little better. The food had a great taste but was sloppily put together.. We did not like the entrance, it feels like your going through a storage locker to get to your table..Maybe some redecorating is in order? The staff was very friendly and was nice enough to give me change for the parking meters..All in All I would suggest this place for customer service and food..

What a hidden gem! My husband and I went to Chris’s Hotdogs for dinner one Friday night, and it was like stepping back in time - all the best parts! The third+ generation owner came over to our table to chat with us and told us the story of the restaurant which made the experience even better! The food is great, too!

What a gem of a place! It was recommended to me by a nice lady at the Visitor Center and I loved it right from the very start, when we were greeted by a jovial guy at the counter. Everything was super good - the service, the vibe and, most importantly, the dogs! No wonder the place has been around for more than a century!

100 Year Old Hotdog 🌭 Establishment. Be prepared - the decor takes you back in time. Hotdogs & fries were tasty. Servers/employees are real characters. Definitely recommend.

Great Montgomery gem! So glad we made the stop here for lunch. Amazing staff and our waitress did not write one thing down! Loved my Special Dog and my mom loved the hamburger. Also, we got to talk with the owner as we walked in and got some great local beer recommendations. What a nice family business!

The food was delicious. The only thing that I wish could have been a little better was the temperature of the hot dogs. Maybe after they were prepared, they could have heated them in a microwave for 12 to 15 seconds like I have to do at home. The staff members were very friendly and helpful. I loved the retro look of the place. Actually carried me back a few years. Also I was very impressed with the prices. Very good value for the price. Very nice place to check out.

Had a wonderful time here. Loved all the old photos on the wall. Staff was super friendly and the food was great! The chili was unique and I had to go for a second burger. Great place to visit for lunch. Must-stop in Montgomery.

The service was courteous, we ordered a hamburger and couple of hotdogs, mix of mustard, ketchup, onions and Chris' Famous Chili Sauce made them taste good. We were passing by to Atlanta, so we came not only for the food, but also a taste of history, I was not disappointed. When I finished lunch, got out and looked around, then I suddenly realized why so many great politicians including MLK coming to this hotdog place: the Capitol, Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church, etc. are just step away from here, no wonder.

Chris' Hot Dogs is a vivid portrait of the past that remains relevant in today's world. This was my first visit, but not my last. The hotdogs are classic fare with a housemade chili that is unforgettable. The housemade onion rings are a gift from the onion ring gods. They a surely what onion rings are supposed to be in every way. Its hard to find good onion rings, but they're in Montgomery, AL. Another real treat was that the owner was on premises, greeting customers, serving and being involved in the day to day.

Wish burgers were a bit bigger, but it was really good! I love mom and pop food places! The history of this one is so impressive! Our waiter was fabulous, on top of everything and super super super nice! The seasoning on the table was great and their chili sauce was to die for! DEFINITELY recommend!

Iconic. If you are in the area, you have to try. Get the hot dog how it is famous for. I thought it was good, but the the sour kraut made it a little to sweet for me. Still good but different. Hot dog sauce was peppery, but good. French fries were perfect, hot and crispy! Service was excellent. A must do in Montgomery.

This place is amazing! If you want to step back in time to a simpler time and place, then check this place out! The food was phenomenal! Our waitress was an absolute gem! Never once wrote anything down and never got it wrong! And she was waiting on the whole place!

Chris's is an institution. A landmark. An icon. If you come there expecting white tablecloths turn around. It's a hot dog joint that's a century old. That history is represented in its atmosphere, its staff and its food. The food. Get a 1 and 1, special if you're hungry and enjoy the experience. The sauce is the crack sauce and I could drink it from a glass. I love Chris's and everyone there. Its a family and though I'm now on the West Coast I'll always feel that way about it.

A Montgomery, Alabama Institution!! Right downtown and has been there for years. Delicious inexpensive food. Lunch at Chris's famous Hot dogs near the state capital. It's a Montgomery tradition. I always try to eat at the local places on my trips. Elvis, George Bush , Harry Truman and Martin Luther King and now Jay Biddle are amongst the previous customers.

Always one of my go to places when I come to Montgomery to visit my mother. Nothing like sitting in a place that you ate at as a child (50+ yrs now) and having one of the best hotdogs around. Not to mention the best fries around around. I love sitting with my 81 yr old mother while we eat and here her stories about going to Chris'. Such wonderful memories.

5 stars because it is an awesome place to grab a quick bite to eat with a friendly staff. Being a Montgomery landmark eatery for years, I felt like I was transported back almost 40 years to when I was a kid and my grandfather took me to places like this, but up north. Very nostalgic and a great atmosphere with some pretty darn good hot dogs!

Would definitely recommend! It was a neat local place to try while on vacation. The food was good and enjoyed trying something new and local to the area. Staff was friendly and so was the owner. Reasonable prices. I realize the restaurant is older but it could use a deep cleaning and updating. It was definitely clean enough to eat there or I wouldn't have but it needs a deep clean gone through, many booths were ripped or springs not supportive anymore. With a little TLC could be a 5 for sure...so I would rate 4.5 and would say I would visit again.

Great ambiance, nice server! Hot Dogs we're okay, fried came out hot. Low on variety does mean fast on food delivery.

a restaurant dedicated to something they know nothing about. horrible hotdogs and the “chili” is just a tomato ketch up sauce. also cold. not that sanitary, and drink machine need to be cleaned and changed. didn’t expect much and they couldn’t even go beyond that.

I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone 15 years ago it was great but now when you talk about a hole in the wall this is the true meaning of hole in the wall the owner was working the grill with no gloves on and no mask. he was taking the money from customers in between working on the grill. Around the grill area was horrible. The health department score is only a 90, skip this place if you can.

Highlight of my trip to Montgomery. Classic diner type atmosphere, but the owners, Mrs. E (who's been there 44 years) and her daughter were all amazing personalities and storytellers adding a dimension to the food that transcends the price or offering. You'll be hard pressed to find it anywhere in the US, let alone Montgomery. The food is good. They haven't been in business for over a century for no reason but the ambiance and fellowship experience is what sets them apart from countless other restaurants. It's living history. History in the making. Many a famous person has eaten here and sat in the seat your sitting in.
