My wife and I drove over 300 miles to taste this food. The food was so good I forgot to take a picture. 🤤The parking lot was full. The line wasn’t long at all. Menus are visible to get an idea of what you’d want. You can also call their menu line to hear what they’re serving. The gentleman greeted us at the door. Atmosphere was pleasant. Free drink if you’re paying cash.

This place offers truly down home cooking! I had salizbury steak smothered in brown gravy atop a bed of rice, along with mac and cheese and cabbage --- all seasoned just right! Highly recommended...

I love a good Soul Food spot, and this is one of them! One of the best in Montgomery, AL! I dined in for lunch one day an hour after they opened and found that they were already out of Yams! I got turkey & dressing, mac & cheese, lima beans, a corn muffin, and peach cobbler. Everything was on point EXCEPT the mac and cheese, which is weird cause theirs is always delicious without a question. It tasted like it came out the box, but they put it in the oven. There was barely a line, and the customer service was friendly as ALWAYS. The place was clean, and very festive!

The food was delicious! First time eating there an I was not disappointed! Chicken hot crispy cabbage on point! Bake Mac and cheese so good! The only thing I didn't like was the corn bread muffin!

Cant complain about this food. Everytime I've been it was good. Always hot. And the taste is good. Know what you want because the server with the freckles will be very impatient with you. I watched her be downright rude to older people today (10/3/18) like they were getting the food free or like she was serving gold and silver. The cashier was pleasant and so was the male server. UPDATE: I went back today 10/17/ 18... when the server with the freckles is not on the line.... there is no movement!!! She is literally the wheel of the whole line. The other guys are nice but they 100% cant do it without her.

Food is always great. It would be great if more than one line open for orders, having to stand for long periods of time it's tiresome i feel sorry for the senior citizens on walkers omg. My stickler is the parking lot terrible shape for the money customers spend for 100's of plates being sold and u can't get the humongous pot holes fixed been in those conditions a long time..haven't been back in a while. Just don't want to pay for a busted tire.

The food was great, the service was ok, and the atmosphere was pure chaos. This is not a dine in restaurant its pick up only. Being a visitor in the area you walk in and you have no idea which way to go, how to go about ordering, you simply become a robot and get in line and wait your turn. There is no restaurant professionalism, simply "next, light or dark, gravy, what sides... next. " There was a disruption that caused some alarm between a customer and staff member, which caused the entire staff in the back to come out front. This made for a run or look for cover situation, but they did have security to remove the problem. I'm not sure how long they have been in business, but there is a lot of work to be done. This gives literally mean to "hole in the wall" as there is a plexiglass cut-out where front staff speaks with kitchen staff. All restaurant supplies are stored out front in the open. The food is delicious, real home cooking, but you've got to get past and overlook the rest to enjoy the experience of the good foodand it is good food.

The food is awesome but the setup and check out process needs to be reconfigured. The hot bar is small and not enough people working behind it to help fix plates, the one cashier is super slow and the food line and checkout have people on top of each other. Great food but I wish they would fix the way they serve food and check you out. Total time was an hour.

Spoke to some neighbors as a good place to eat.. and Simply Southern came up .. Today(Wed.) had Meat Loaf / Mash Potatoes with Mac &Cheese and Cabbage. The food was good.. there's no bells or whistles .. no Peach Cobbler or Red Velvet Cake😫😩😭.. or gravy for my mash..

One of my favorites to get good Southern cooked soul food.. However the prices are getting out of hand everyone using Covid to raise prices. Military discount is like 1% off of a meal.. I received $1.02 off a $40 bill..

I was so disappointed that I preordered food and paid for it in full days in advance and anticipated it to be ready a day before Thanksgiving as previously agreed upon. My husband stood in the cold rain for over four hours waiting on food that when I received it, it wasn’t freshly cooked, it came out of a can and the manager refused to provide us with a full refund instead they offered us a gift certificate. Which was not satisfactory to me since my husband and I missed out on a concert that we planned to attend that same evening that we had non refundable tickets for but couldn’t attend because he was in line from 4p to 10p getting food and to make matters worst, they ran out of the entree that i previously ordered and substituted for an item that I didn’t want . A gift certificate is not the way you right you’re wrong . They should have stopped taking orders at some point and food should have been prepared prior to pick up.and not be serving folks canned yams etc.

I didn't have a good experience coming to this place. It came highly recommended by hotel staff so we took a chance. I wish we wouldn't have. The portions were terrible for the price. The fish was so hard i thought i was eating fish cracklings. I asked for sweet potatoes and string beans. A and a roll. One chicken wing was $3.00 and two drinks. My total was $26.00 and some change. They gave me a piece of sweet potato, and a half a spoon of string green beans. I don't eat a lot and i was still hungry. I do not recommend this over priced place. The staff was not pleasant at all i assume its not a good place to work. A lady from the kitchen came out to give me a piece of foil, that they didn't have. There is no reason that they can give that would justify the serving sizes. I ran a business where i served food for four years. If you can't give people a healthy serving then you need to raise prices i expect better servings considering that both tasted as though they were from the can. This type of service is why people of color never raise to the top. Poor service, poor quality food, over priced. Lets do better. Lastly this place looked like it was pieced together the chairs were tattered and torn. The serving area was no better the silverware was not protected. They were wrapped in paper towel. Im not sure who put this place together but they need to close and hire someone to help with the presentation. Do better!!

The food was delicious. It was well seasoned, hot, and the portions were good. We actually dined in and then ordered food to go for dinner. Also, they have a different menu everyday so depending on when you go you will be able to get something different every time. Staff was courteous and professional and the owner greeted us at the door. I would recommend this family restaurant to everyone.

Kind of pricey but it's worth each of my pennies. If you have a thing for soul food. Simply Southern Cafe will touch your Soul. They are not stingy with the portions,PERIOD.

Great food however no one seems to answer thr phone for to go orders. Still looking to see if there is a different number. Line was long but worth the wait.

I eat here at least twice a week. The food is always delicious and hot. The service or staff members are always accommodating and friendly. I’m sure it’s not always easy serving so many people, but I have never witnessed rude or nasty behavior from anyone working here. There is no other place in Montgomery with soul food like Simply Southern!!!!! I really appreciate your hospitality and your delicious food!!!!

OMGooodness the food was amazing, we took it with us to the hotel, we got the meatloaf mashed potatoes and green beans. Salisbury steak w/ rice and gravy green beans and Mac and cheese. Rib platter with Mac and cheese, green beans with sides of sweet potatoes and squash casserole. All was extremely excellent. The employees were exceptional with serving and answering questions. Definitely a go to, wish we lived in Montgomery Al so we could go more often.

I met one of the owners a couple of weeks ago and came in to give it a try. The food (I had the chicken) was excellent, especially their yams - those were top-notch, and the service was friendly. Go here if you want some very good Southern home cooking. I will be back, as I'd also like to try their meat loaf and oxtail dishes. I'm glad I encountered the owner because, though I had seen the place before, I rarely drive along that road, and so hadn't thought about it. Definitely 5 stars on the food. Solid portion sizes for the price, also.

If you enjoy a Soulfood meat & 3 type of place then you'll rate it as 5 stars. Since that's not really my thing...I gave it a 3 because for my personal tastes the food was okay. The staff was super friendly though and the wait time was short.

I’m very disappointed on today. I purchased my usual meatloaf and double yams. The meatloaf taste like plain ketchup and it’s soupy. The paste suppose to stick to the meatloaf.

Food was great, prices are reasonable. Be prepared to stand in line for 10-15 minutes. I haven't had anything there that wasn't good. Ox Tails, Beef tips, and Fried Chicken are superb.

Pregnant lady with platinum blonde box braids that was the cashier hates her life and was very rude, is the reason I gave 3 stars. The food is 5 stars though. Hopefully next time I come, she’s gone.

Listen I have Eaten soul in Many places in my life, so after getting my order for me and my wife we pull to the shopping center behind the restaurant and let me tell you something after the first Bite I know the wait was worth it I started to come back into the Restaurant to Get my Grandma cause I know she had cook the food. The turkey wings was on fire, aging I know food and I heard about this little Gem from a friend in Atlanta so I made it my Business to get there see what the fuss was about! Now I see. The area around it looks distressed, but don’t judge a book by its cover. This is a great meat & three. I had some excellent meatloaf, Mac & cheese, mashed potatoes, and yams at this place. It is not heart nor diet friendly! Spent around $10. The staff were really friendly.

Purchased the oxtails plate with 3 sides. Let me start with I only received 4 oxtails with so much fat on them it was ridiculous (I eat oxtails all the time) never had them with that much fat. Second the rice was bland no type of seasoning no salt, butter nothing. Third the Mac & cheese tasted like nothing but cheese and not the good cheese. Fourth the dinner roll was dry no butter, like they got it out the pack and served it. The best items I received was the green beans and dressing even tho the dressing was kinda dry the gravy made up for it tho. Very disappointed for almost $30. I will stick to my Jamaican restaurant for now on!! FYI soul food has flavor‼️

I really enjoyed the food I ordered from here. I was very satisfied and could definitely eat here at least twice a week.

The food is always fresh and good. The servers are courteous. Never have been disappointed with my experience there.
