Omgosh! This place is the diamond in the rough. Everything was flavored perfectly, but the loaded potato casserole was in a league of its own. I'm not sure who concocted this dish, but you could take over the world with it. And let's not forget about the banana pudding. It is on par with my grandmother's (I hope she doesn't find out I said that). Looking forward to another visit. Oh, and if you want a seat, you better show up early. It became standing room only very quick.

I'll give the food 5 stars and the server 2 stars BUT Gail's reached out and the troubling server has moved on! The fried chicken was excellent, all the sides were great. I really enjoyed the mac and cheese, Gail's coleslaw and mashed potatoes. Perfect place for a southern meal.

This restaurant is gooood!!! If you are visiting the south and you're looking for that Southern Grub, this is the place! The hamburger steak is cooked to perfection. And smothered in that dark brown gravy with onions on top. OMG!!! The fried chicken is very southern. It reminds me of the old days when Big Mama and all her contemporaries used to cook enough food for the entire neighborhood to eat and fried chicken was one of the meats. Let me not forget to mention that the cornbread is DEVILICIOUSLY GOOOOOOOOD!!! It is extremely addictive. Conbread CRACK!!! You will eat one and before you know it, you will have devoured every piece without realizing it. Be sure to just go ahead and order an entire plate full of cornbread. I am just helping you out in advance. The catfish was catfish and not a lousy substitute. My girlfriend asked to have it cooked crispy and it was prepared as she requested. When our waitress brought it out, it looked like it was prepared to be photographed for a magazine cover. The staff were extremely hospitable AND accommodating. The restaurant has alot of tables and a bar and the place was full. This is definitely the spot to eat at lunch. The restaurant closes at 3 so be sure to get there. Entrance into the parking lot can be nerve racking because there are so many people entering and leaving but patience will be the blessing you use to help you get this awesome food you see in the images I have provided. No one is in there judging how much you order and how much you eat because everyone in there will be guilty of stuffing their faces to full capacity overload! Out waitress, Tracey, was SUPER AWESOME! She was super southern with that hospital kindness and charm. Super Superb CUSTOMER SERVICE. Customer service like that is Extremely rare in this day and age. I Highly Recommend eating at Gail's. Thank me later.

We went for a work get together, not crowded when we got there but was coming in, food was very good, portions were large and fresh. Service was friendly and very helpful.

Great healthy home cooking! They're so good, they're only open M-F 11-2. So you have to synchronize with them, instead of the way most restaurants have to do. But it's worth it!

My MIL took me to lunch here and the food was so very good. Great selection! I loved the fried green tomatoes! We both ordered the salmon croquettes and were happy we did!

Simple menu, changes daily. Just amazing down home cooked meals. Recommend the Chicken and Dumplings. Interior is a little dated, but this okay. This place was packed for a weekday lunch and it's worth the wait.

This is Southern comfort food at its outstanding best. We had meatloaf, real mashed potatoes and gravy, fried green tomatoes, camp stew, excellent creamed corn, best ever cornbread muffins served on big plates and iced tea. Everything was very well prepared, good size portions. 2 orders with 1 meat, 2 sides, 2 large teas, came to $24 w tax and $6 tip that was well earned, great service. We actually felt like guests and were treated as such. Will we return? Absolutely and bring friends.

I met some friends for lunch today and the place was very busy. We got there at 11:30 to beat the rush, but we didn't beat the rush. The staff worked quickly and politely to keep people moving and we only waited a few minutes before being seated. Food was great, loved the service and this was my first time to this place and I plan to return😁

Gail's Down the Street Cafe is a hidden gem in the heart of Montgomery, Alabama. My family and I visited town for Thanksgiving and we were looking for authentic Southern food and we found it at Gail's. This charming little restaurant needs to be on your list if you visit. From the moment we stepped inside, we were greeted with warm smiles and a cozy atmosphere that instantly made us feel right at home. Even Gail stopped by our table to talk to us. She's so sweet. The food was mouthwatering incredible! Gail's offers exceptional value for the quality of food and the service they provide. If you're in the area, do yourself a favor and pay Gail's a visit - you won't be disappointed!

Went here on Tuesday, August 29, 2023. It was after 12pm. There was plenty of seating. I was happy with the service and my food. I give it a 5/5. My tea was super sweet kist the way I like it. My to go yea was mot sweet at all. That was a little disappointing. My husband said his food was a 3/5. His country fried steak was too hard. I’d eat here again though. I love meat and threes. Also, check their facebook to see if the menu has changed.

Gail has always had GOOD country cooking. She has the best pot roast with creamed potatoes and fried green tomatoes that are to die for. The desserts are homemade its just delicious 😋.

Gails is a staple on Sunday after Church. Good food. It can be crowded and noisy. It's not a large place and many customers are fond of it. But its a good place for Sunday luncheon.

The only downside for lunch is the entrance. People paying and waiting on same spot and a table right there so it gets congested. But good food and service was awesome

Really great home cooked meal, and the service was wonderful! It is a meat and three type dining experience and you get a LOT of food for the money

Excellent food and great service! The menu rotates but I've had many different meals and never had a bad experience yet. The sides are about as good as you'll find anywhere. Best fried green tomatoes, green beans, and turnip greens around. Corn bread comes with every meal and is some of the best I've ever had. Russel at the bar is excellent and remembers my drink order every time. Could not ask for better service.

My sister took me here for lunch just prior to my return home to Minnesota. This restaurant is a real meat-and-three, and the quality of the meal and the service are both outstanding! If you like real traditional Southern cooking you can't go wrong here. The Chicken and dumplings, fried green tomatoes, creamed corn, coleslaw and cornbread muffin were all absolutely delicious! Thanks, sis! ❤

The food is good, the service is friendly, and the price is more than fair. The true star of the show was the bread pudding, it was maybe one of the best things I have ever put in my mouth. Give it a try you will not be disappointed.

Staff was welcoming and friendly however the food was not what I was expecting. I ordered catfish, Mac and cheese, green beans, and fried okra. The okra was cold, and the Mac n cheese was cold. The fish was just okay. Of the staff wasn't so darn friendly I probably would have rated thia a lot lower. I won't be going back.

This place has so much character!! Most all have worked together for over five years and act as family. Go in with a good attitude and you will get it back! Cornbread is better than a cupcake! So sweet and moist. Greens are tender and flavorful. Creamed corn is just that..creamed. Chicken fried steak wasn't crisp but very flavorful..tasted good. We were in and out in 30 minutes. Food was hot and fresh. Thank you!
