It was a very pleasant food experience, clean environment, delicious food, friendly service. My friends and I ordered sukiyaki, all the vegetables and meat were very fresh and served very quickly (probably because there weren't too many customers). The sides are also very delicious! Really great! Very recommended!!!

Great prices for the amount of food given! As a group of 4 adults, we ordered: 1. Taco Karage (deep fried octopus) 2. Wagyu slice Chazuki 3. Teriyaki eel Chazuki 4. Curry chicken karrage donburi 5. Salmon sashimi chazuki For those of you who haven't tried chazuke (rice dish served with tea+soup stock, it's definitely a nice experience. You basically pour the tea soup stock into your meal. Their tea stock had a sweet and subtle oolong flavour. Personally I would recommend the taco Karage and curry chicken karrage donburi, very flavourful and worth the money :)

Amazing atmosphere and the friendliest service. We ordered the takoyaki and crab claws for the entrees which were so tasty. The curry chicken katsu don was so rich in flavour and had the most crisp batter on the katsu. Recommend the m10-m12 Wagyu sukiyaki which came with fresh veggies and has the most a rich and sweet broth. The Wagyu was so tender and delicious.

the food here was so good! So pleased they are back in business after their move. It was incredibly busy on a weeknight. Highly recommend all dishes we ordered!! They are best known for their sukiyaki set and donburi bowl. The sides were also fantastic 💞

Average quality Japanese cuisine. The rice in the beef don is too wet for my liking. The service is not bad but I am surprised that the waitress didn't give me a straw nor a cup with my soft drink order. I particularly don't like the fact that they offer free drinks to have customer writing reviews and I think this place is currently overated on Google.

We went for the special offer set with Premium Sher M9 sirloin 250g ~10 slices (Australia's delicious award winning beef produced by the Sher family since 1991) plus a bonus 300g ~13 slices of Ikkai certified Australian M9 wagyu slice with another serve of the in house pasteurised raw egg. It already comes with udon and veges but we added another udon but didn't really need it because the wagyu don was so rich and filling and more than enough! The staff were friendly and set you up for a great sukiyaki meal with the first slice served for you to your liking - we opted for medium rare of the sher wagyu and omg it was heaven. Then you DIY the rest with a side jug of water provided to top up when it gets too thick and sweet. A bit pricey (but fantastic special deal) and a great place to visit for a special occasion 👍 Thanks to @ikkai.au for the #invite and hospitality 😋

My new reply to Mr Kai: Kai Sato's reply is very ridiculous. We were only two people in that day, not four. Mr Kai even didn't check with me if we were the customers who were mentioned by him. The restaurant's reply is arrogant. We two will never go there again. Because the sukiyaki is very hot. Only 1.5 hour which is allowed by the restaurant is very hurry for us two. When it was getting close to the time limit, the restaurant kept hurrying us. What's the rush to finish a meal?? I think a meal should be a pleasant and relaxed time for people to meet each other. We hadn't even finished, then this restaurant started pressuring us to leave, because they said the next customer was waiting. Thus, the dining time 1.5 hour is very unreasonable, especially considering the sukiyaki is very hot. We two even didn't have time to talk to each other during the meal.

The food is good but I did not try the sukiyaki which looked great from other people's tables. The staff were very friendly and helpful in discussing the menu and water. The decorations were nice and pleasing to the eyes. Do note that the place is a bit expensive but the quality is there.

Just passed by their street a week ago and found the place interesting so we made a booking this week. :) we were so pleased! Their wagyu sukiyaki is the best in Melbourne. The service was good too! :) loved everything served to us. :) We can’t wait to have another dinner here again.

A nice Japanese restaurant, original flavor with many options! I loved the fact that it's in a little lane and it's a very cozy environment with some outdoor sits. The flavor is generally good, although I expected a bit more quality from the wagyu. The portion are good size and price overall fair. The service was fast, polite and friendly from the staff! Good job

The grilled eel in rice had a very generous serving of eel. 9/10 for this dish. We also had the A5 Beef sukiyaki, the beer was very tender however I prefer my beef grilled not dipped. Overall it’s still very tasty. The shop is quite small and tight, the big chairs does not help. Would love to see some renovations to this place. 7.7/10

A hidden gem! The food had such a great portion and boasted with great flavors. I absolutely loved the teriyaki eel chazuki and would highly recommend getting this! It was so delicious and well-balanced. Would definitely go back and try more of their dishes, especially the sukiyaki!

Featured: 🥩 m10-12 wagyu sukiyaki set for 2 🍚 eel azumino soba seed stem chazuke 🦀 fried claw balls 🐙 tacoyaki 🍵 green tea 🍺 kirin ichiban beer Been to ikkai a few times in their previous location and it was great to be back for their sukiyaki and dons. We really enjoyed the food + experience here and given it was a rainy day that day, the japanese feed we had was super comforting 😋 for the prices of the dishes, you do get delicious food, quality meat/ingredients and a generous serving. Nice ambience and very friendly + attentive staff. Definitely worth a try!✨️

We read about this highly rated Japanese restaurant on Google. What we didn't realise is that people were raving about the sukiyaki hot pot. We had different Japanese food in mind. The QR code ordering and lack of a printed menu is disappointing, especially if one's phone has low signal and running out of juice.

Absolutely loved my visit here. The sukiyaki broth was very flavoursome, the Wagyu is of great quality (melt-in-the-mouth and so tender) and the veggies are fresh. Friendly and attentive service. Comfortable seating. Will definitely be back!

Pretty good Sukiyaki place! Althought its a little bit pricey, the beef was kind of thickly sliced so it’s . Staff was really friendly, one of the girls helped us cooked the beef and told us how to do it. Didn’t expect too much from the Chicken curry, but the size of the chicken was BIG! Thick and juicy:) Love it! They are also doing half prices for drinks so it’s around 2.5$ per drink which is much more reasonable than other restaurants. Fried was a bit dry though, although seasoned pretty evenly, not quite flavourful.

A go-to Japanese restaurant for you to check out when in the city. 💃🏼 Ikkai serves up delicious Japanese cuisine specialising in sukiyaki, wagyu, and donburi; using freshest and premium quality ingredients. It has a nice low-lit ambience, and the staff was so efficient and friendly. the Wagyu sukiyaki set for 2 is must-try 💥the broth wasn’t just to cook the ingredients but also a soup to slurp and enjoy - rich flavour and soul warming. 🥩the beef quality and marbling was incredible, it only took seconds to cook, and it literally melts in the mouth. Love how they give you 4 eggs in total, great for people who love dipping in lots of eggs like me. 🤤 There are various types of marble scores for the meat that you can opt for.

Very delicious, high quality beef in the sukiyaki! Totally worth every penny. The service is also amazing, the staff anticipates your need. Absolutely stunning!

The A5 Wagyu sukiyaki set was so buttery and silky dipped in the raw egg. This premium cut was so delicious and tender. The sukiyaki broth was so flavourful. The chicken katsu was so crispy and delicious and the eel chazuke was so comforting. I really liked the umami fries! The interior was lovely and the customer service was very good and the staff were very attentive.

One of the best sukiyakis in Melbourne I have ever tried and we are definitely going back for more!! Even their rice bowls were sooo yummy and we loved it so much!

By far one of the best Sukiyaki in Mebourne CBD. Located at Hardware lane, the location was perfect, not busy, clean, quiet place to enjoy your food. We over ordered but Sukiyaki was the first one that we finished. The wagyu, mushroom and vegetable combo was perfect. We also ordered the Umami fries which is so flavourful. The rice bowls was good for 2 already so just order one and share unless you're out on a mission(foodie day). Overall the service was fast and staff was really kind. Definitely coming back for the Sukiyaki.

A delicious range of quality Japanese food, specialising in wagyu, sukiyaki and donburi. We tried sukiyaki for the first time and loved it! We tried: 🍲 M10-12 Waygu Sukiyaki 🐙 Tacoyaki 🍟 Umami Fries 🍚 Half Ebi Fry Half Eel Don 🦀 Fried Claw Ball 🥤 Original Ramune 🥤 Lychee Ramune Sukiyaki is a popular Japanese hot pot dish where you slowly simmer well-marbled beef, alongside vegetables, tofu, mushrooms and noodles in a shallow cast-iron pot. The soup broth is rich and flavourful with sweet and savoury components. We ordered the M10-12 Wagyu set for 2 and the beef was incredibly tender and delicious, cooked medium rare, dipped in the pasteurised raw egg. The eel and prawn don was also full of umami flavours, with crunchy ebi fry and tender unagi. We also tried a variety of sides, which were all really yummy!

This is such a great spot! It has a nice moody, low-lit ambience which is perfect for a date night spot. The meat and seafood is also high-quality and taste super fresh, and delicious! Really good value for money too! We got m12 wagyu for sukiyaki and it was super tender and such large portions!

This is going to be one of the best sukiyaki I had in Melbourne. Soup was so good, The marbling of the Wagyu beef was superb for its price, the slices meaty and slightly fatty and could down your throat. sweet-savoury sukiyaki soup, the balance was just right for this bowl. Definitely be back here again

If you love Sukiyaki and Wagyu, this hidden gem is a must visit. Hidden away at the back of Tivoli Arcade in Melbourne CBD, they serve premium Wagyu Sukiyaki, donburi and other Japanese small bites like Takoyaki, tako karaage, tempura, takoyaki, salmon sashimi and more. We had: 🥩A5 Wagyu Sukiyaki Set 🍣Salmon Sashimi 🐙Tako Karaage We started with deliciously fresh salmon sashimi and yummy bites of fried octopus pieces😍. Moving on to the main A5 Wagyu Sukiyaki Set; flavours were built from grilling the wagyu beef fat on the hot cast iron Sukiyaki pot and adding the rich, sweet broth. Vegetables, mushrooms, tofu, udon and konjak noodles were added along with slices of beautifully marbled A5 wagyu beef🥰 Once we had the wagyu cooked to our preference, we then dipped them into the pasteurised egg yolk and we enjoyed it!😍👍🏻 The sukiyaki broth was more on the sweet side rather than savoury/ spicy hot pot. However, the pasteurised egg yolk dip did help to balance out that sweetness. You really can’t go wrong with A5 wagyu to begin with. They just melt in your mouth😍 For a very limited time, their A5 Wagyu set is at only $138 per set (normally $188). So better hurry if you wanna visit before the offer ends!

On 20 July for our Wednesday Date Night we went to Ikkai ✨ We got: 🍟 Umami Fries Delicious entree, can’t go wrong with crunchy fries with seaweed seasonings‼️ 🦀 Crab Claws This was my childhood snack that I haven’t had for so long and I can always rely on the flavor. I was so happy to finally share this yummy snack with Andrew 🥰 It’s fully packed with shredded crab meat, which was juicy in contrast to crispy outer layer. 🥩 Wagyu Beef Don This dish was alright. The beef was nicely cooked and it was soft, but there wasn’t a lot of flavor in the dish so every bite was quite repetitive. We’d skip this if we were to go back to Ikkai. 🐟 Unagi Chazuke This was such a unique dish! Loved the sweetness & savoriness of the grilled eel and the tea itself was more like a broth so it’s like eating rice in a soup which was amazing ✨ Definitely worth a try! Overall, it was a nice casual dinner place, kinda hidden from the busy road so it was good. We’d love to try the famous Sukiyaki next time ‼️

We tried their Japanese A5 Wagyu Sukiyaki for 2 and it was so delicious and filling! It is such a great deal because it is is now $138 (originally $188). The wagyu was so tender and the marbling was on point. We also had some of their side dishes which went perfectly with the set. Would definitely visit again.

An absolute hidden gem in the alley behind Bourke St, Little Collin and Rainbow alley 😊 IKKAI transports you to Japan serving the most authentic and delicious sukiyaki with A5 Wagyu! Perfect date night spot or with some friends! I highly recommend booking in advance as they can get quite busy!

The salmon don and beef don were cooked perfectly. Delicious and light with generous portions. Highly recommend if you are looking for healthy and filling food. Great service. Air conditioned which is nice on a hot day.

A nice place. We tried with easy and feel it worth to try in person. The chicken karrage taste crispy and great. The edamame taste soft and great. The tacoyaki is a bit too much on the source. Chazuke taste amazing, everyone should try this. Wagyu Beef Slice & Ox Tongue Donburi taste great, there are a lot of meat in there. Nice experience, gonna come back.
