It's definitely a dog beach. The smell of pee is in the air Once you park. But the thrill and look of your dog's Face Running freely in and out of the Water is Priceless.. I've never seen my dog run so fast in my life and she was loving every minute of being here. I was so happy that we made the stop For a long trip out here, worth off leash time. Other beach goers were very friendly with their dogs.... be sure to keep leash nearby and keep an eye on your dog just so they don't get into any trouble. It's so like a free for all for them

What can I say besides it’s a wonderful place to bring your dog. On the beach with incredible views and warm sand between your toes. Lots of friendly people to talk with and plenty of pets for your dog to play with. You can jump in the water with your pouch, let them swim, or chase a ball. Bring a chair or beach towel, some sunscreen, and fresh water for you and your dog. Love this park.

The less pictures I take, the more I am enjoying the moment. Hence why I only have one picture of the dog beach despite being a regular. This is my favorite place to take my pup and also his absolute favorite place to come. We usually come in the morning time so parking is always available and the beach is never too crowded. The area is massive with tons of open space for my boy and I to run around, play with the frisbee, or even take a dip into the water when we need to cool off. Other owners are courteous and pick up after their pets. Great place to visit for some off leash fun time with your family!

I recommend early mornings. There are a handful of wonderful dogs and humans and it's beautiful to watch the sun cut through the mist. Plus you feel good all day knowing you already made your dog so happy, happy, happy. The dogs I saw first thing in the morning are well socialized and just having a ball. One kept throwing himself down repeatedly just R O L L I N G in the seaweed from head to tie then standing up and throwing himself back down again. If your dog likes to run with other dogs, he will find one. If he likes to stay by his human, no one will interrupt him. I love it in the mornings real early. It's not as chill in the busier parts of the day, and honestly my anxiety gets a little high with so many dogs with varying levels of socialization and manners but these little slices of no crowd times are perfection.

Our dog had the time of her life here! The beach is perfect- it’s very shallow and gives lots of room for people and dogs to wade and play in the water without having to get completely in. Lots of room to sit in the white sand too. We came on a Saturday and there were lots of dogs but wasn’t too crowded. I will say there’s no fence but it is a good distance away from the parking lot if you have a runner.

Brought our three dogs here and had a splashing’ time. Lots of super friendly dogs chasing waves like any Cali beach bum would. You also seen some playing frisbee and some out there having a ball.

Absolutely one of the best dog beaches in the United States. I have been coming here with my pup here for over 5 years. Highly recommend.

Absolutely loved this beach! The dogs all got along really well off leash and the beach was clean. There is also an area that does not have waves so it is perfect for smaller dogs.

Love the area. Perfect for a Family outing especially with little ones. Waves are perfectly shallow for your fur babies. Today we experienced a Thick Fog coming from the ocean and it blanked over the city.

Happy pup. Great spot to let your dog run and enjoy the beach. Plenty of room so it’s not overwhelming or if you want a quieter walk. Amazing sunset view too

Away from main roads. Has inlet if the waves get a bit rough. Rock lined pier separating dog beach from main beach.

Nice spot for dogs but can be a minefield cause not everyone picks up after their furries. I heard the water can be polluted at times.

This place is heaven on earth. All the pups! We went during pretty busy times and never saw any wild dogs or disrespectful owners. Everyone was pretty chill and cleaned up after themselves. The shore has a great deal of shallow water which makes it great for dogs to run around without worrying about them getting swept with the current. Parking can be tricky during busy times but you can find a spot in the surrounding neighborhoods.

Decent place to bring your dog swimming if your dog is a decent swimmer. I recommend visiting at low tide. It creates a wide area of shallow water for dogs of all sizes to wade through our swim. Beware of the estuary current when the tide comes in and goes out. It has carried away many of my dog's toys when my dog didn't feel like swimming after them. He was probably smarter than me to let the toy go. The beach's popularity brings dogs of all temperaments, so treat it like a huge dog run.

A great spot to let your pup run off leash. There isn’t any fencing, so be sure their recall is solid. The crashing waves and beautiful views make for the perfect unwind session.

The people are so friendly all animal lovers, but a few Huskies need some obedience classes (Tend to play a little to rough) but over all had amazing time seeing so many different breeds of dogs(being a pet groomer I loved it)& there is a Dogg bathing shop up the rd, which I needed for my king poodle is high maintenance πŸ˜‚

Wonderful off-leash open dog beach. Happiest place on earth for dogs. Beautiful sunset viewing spot as well. Let’s keep the beach & ocean clean, pick up after your pooch and take the trash with you.

My dog loves it. She is afraid of Ocean waves, so she's never go into water in other beach. This beach has a low lying area that filled with shallow water. She’s really enjoying it.

What a lovely place to take the dogs! Allowing them to run free and make friends. There were two dogs that we couldnt tell whether they were fighting or playing but other than that can’t recommend this enough. So much fun!

This was the first place we came during a recent trip to San Diego (after grabbing fish tacos) and it was AMAZING. As a beach and dog lover, this is my happy place. Yes, there are tons of people accompanying their four-footed friends but everyone seemed very chill and respectful of other families' space, to the extent this is possible. Plenty of parking too! My pup stayed on leash as he was a bit overwhelmed but still loved it!!

There are a lot of people here but other than that it is a very nice Beach with lots of area for the dogs to run. I recommend going at low tide if you can because it opens up some very interesting play area for the pups!

It's great for the dogs. The drug contingency and urine smell as you walk in are a bit off putting though.

So very happy that I found this place! I just moved to SD from Portland so I needed a go-to spot for my pups and let me just say, they love the beach way more than the park! I like that I can sit and relax on the beach while my dogs run around and play with all of the other dogs. It is an open, unfenced beach, but it is still fairly easy to keep an eye on your dogs as the area is nestled in the corner.

  • 5/5 Julia B. 3 years ago on Google
Vast space for dogs to run off leases and to enjoy the beach! Even on a Saturday evening, though the parking lot was fun, there was ample space to lay a towel out on the beach without feeling overcrowded. Note the parking lot was very full at that time on a weekday evening, and so grab that street parking if you see it!

What a fabulous dog beach. Part is on the ocean, part on the river. We prefer the river as it is great for swimming and floating in. Sure wish it had a rubber walkway for the long walk from parking lot to the river (Similar to Coronado dog beach). I have asthma and it is hard to walk in the soft sand. Also wish there were more trash cans along the river portion.
