Not sure why this museum is inside the Gwalior Fort when none of the artefacts belong to it. Mostly these were excavated around the Morena, Shivpuri locations. They charge Rs 5 for which you may say that you don't have change and the guy at the counter takes Rs 10 :-) , eventually saying you take it while returning... And when you go again, you will hear the same 'no change' story. I have seen many people facing this silly issue. ASI should make it free or take UPI payments instead of cash. Coming to the actual point as I said, I had no idea why the museum was there. But still you can visit to cherish our great past and rich heritage. One more thing, the staff won't allow selfies with the artefacts. What surprised me is the way these age old stone carvings are thrown outside in the open area. You will find more articles in the garden than inside the rooms. Somehow I felt this museum was opened due to political reasons and not for educational or information purposes.

Gujari Mahal is located on the eastern gate of the fort near Badalgarh doorway. It is about 4 km from railway station and bus stand. Taxi, auto and tampo are available to reach Gujari Mahal from the railway or bus station. Gujari Mahal Museum is one of the important museum under the Directorate of Archaeology, Archives and Museums, Madhya Pradesh. In the year 1913, the then Maharaja of Gwalior State Shri Madhav Rao Scindhia formed an Archaeological Department and appointed Shri M.B. Garde as Director of it . The decision to establish a museum in Gwalior was taken in 1914. Subsequently, ancient objects were collected from various places of the Gwalior state from 1914-20. In the year 1922 the museum was inaugrated. Since its inception the museum has gone through various stages of development. Many new galleries have also been introduced.

Gwalior Fort, Gwalior Although the fort has seen a large number of various dynasties and empires, it was said to have been constructed by Suraj Sen Kachwaha during the 5th century. Gwalior fort in Gwalior comprises of two main palaces and several temples that are dedicated to Hindu, Buddhist and Jain traditions.

Museums contribute significantly to making the visit of ancient monuments successful and memorable. Information related to traditional arts, Sculptures,  history etc. is obtained. The Archaeological Museum located near the Man Mandir Palace in Gwalior Fort is famous for exhibiting historical artifacts. This museum is founded by Archaeological Survey of India. And it's located in a building which was the Hospital during the British era. It's almost adjacent to the Assi Khamba Ki Baori and opposite to the Man Singh Palace. It has in four galleries many artefacts including stone sculpture, coins, arms, jewellery, inscriptions etc are displayed, belongs to First century BC to 10th century AD. All these were discovered from the Gwalior and its surrounding areas like Amrol, Bateshwar, Rannod etc. In open galleries it displays many giant Sculptures, gateways, etc. Entry fee is quite nominal and affordable. Half an hour is sufficient and the nearest attractions are Man Singh Palace, Assi Khamba Ki Baori etc. It's best known for its rare antiques and Sculptures. It's a major attraction among history buffs wanderers soulseekers heritage art and architecture lovers.
