Tansen, one of the nine accomplished gems at Akbar's court was a disciple of the Sufi saint, Mohammed Ghaus, under whose influence Tansen imbibed the Sufi element into his music. Legend has it that his music had the power to bring forth rain, and also enchant animals. Tansen is believed to have started the Gwalior Gharana style of music. His tomb is in the same environs of his mentor Muhammad Ghaus and is a simple tomb that is open ti the elements. Every year, in the month of November, the Tansen Music Festival is held here.

Great place to give. Gives us a peaceful vibe and gives us a chance to pay respect to the Great Musician Tansen. The only negative point is that when I humbly asked the prophet to take a photo, he rudely denied to do so.

The premises holds 2 tombs. One that of Tansen and the other and the bigger one is of Mohammad Ghaus. Afgan prince "Mohammad Gaus Shattari" turned Sufi saint and Musician was Guru of Tansen and Akbar too. He helped Babar to capture Gwalior fort in 1526. After his demise Akbar raised this beautiful tomb in his remembrance. Tansen desired to have his own tomb in the shadow of his Guru. So after Tansen's demise his small tomb was raised on the side of Mohammad Ghaus tomb. Mohammad Ghaus tomb is a marvelous structure decorated with many geometric stone screens. Compared to it Tansen tomb is a very simple and small structure. Tourists must be aware that no video cameras and trypods are allowed within the premises.

Approach road is difficult to locate as it is not correctly mapped. However there is ample parking space opposite the monument gate. No tickets required. You can just walk in and enjoy the beautiful architecture. The same compound has a tomb of Tansen as well as Gaus.

Tomb of Tansen, the tomb is dedicated to the singing legend. Good place to visit but located in a very congested place and you won't find good eateries near by however you can sit and enjoy the greenery out there but the place should be more maintained and the peacocks are the one who are destroying the monument. Archeological Society of India should take more care on this.. Altogether good place..

This place is one of the main tourist attractions of the city. The main structure is not around the tomb of Tansen rather it's around the tomb of his teacher Muhammad Ghaus. The place is very calm quite and well maintained.

Tomb of Tansen is not amongst the famous tourist's spots in Gwalior but it’s worth visiting, even auto drivers had no idea about this place. Well, the architecture of the tomb is very artistic and beautiful and I wonder why people are not visiting here, the tomb area is not maintained well but it's a pretty nice place.

Serene place with beautiful lawns besides the marvellous architecture of the tomb itself. It's actually the tomb of Tansen's guru built by Emperor Akbar. The tomb of Tansen is a part of the complex.
