It's a museum of ancient sculptures and artifacts from the 800 Bc till 1800 AD. Has a two floor beneath basement with a fascinating passage going down. Best to visit in the morning or evening to avoid the heat.

A small museum of statues and sculptures found across the Gwalior region but is very interesting. The place in itself where the museum is located is historical and was built by Mansingh Tomar for his 9th wife. The place hold more importance because of the technique used to bring water from a distant village to this place using mud pipes in those times. The remains of this pipe can still be seen in the basement. Last but not the least, the legendary Shalbhanjika sculpture is kept here in the curators office. Enquire with staff who are also ready to guide and show you the museum in detail. Entry fee is rs.20.

Mahal built by a Tomar king for her gujjar rani as the Rani has agreed to marry the king only if the water from her village is available in Gwalior. Hence the King built this mahal for her gujjar Rani to store water.

Gujri Mahal is also called the Gwalior fort Museum, it is located in part of the Gwalior Fort. It was built by Raja Man Singh Tomar for his wife, it also had regular water supply during those times. The Gujri Mahal is now a full fledged museum with great collection. My personal favourites were potraits of the Mughal rulers, the paintings of the rulers were eye catching and I have never seen such a beautiful miniature paintings to them. It was in one of the rooms of the Gujri Mahal, but tourists are not allowed to click it’s picture but can see those paintings. The Gujri Mahal also has the Lion Capital potray, these are just a few examples of the exlemper collections in the Mahal. The structure of the Mahal is vast with rooms and the hallway, looking at it you can imagine the way the ranis lived during olden times.

Visited this museum back in January. This building used to be the palace of Queen Mrignayani as a condition of her marriage to Raja Man Singh Tomar of Gwalior. I first saw the palace from high up in Gwalior Fort and it did look impressive from there, but not so much close up. The palace is now a museum and I thought the collection was okay. There’s separate tickets for entrance and taking photos, although the price is really only pocket change. Fine to visit if you’re already visiting the fort, but I wouldn't go out of the way to see it though.

Some gems are lost in time and we hardly know about their existence- this palace and it’s story is one such tale. Built by Raja Man Singh Tomar for his 9th wife, this is a beautiful palace that once thrived and is now a museum which houses sculptures from in and around Gwalior dating back 5th century to 10th to 17th century. Their are 28 rooms in the palace which are now converted into museum galleries and offices of ASI workers. Basement is converted into a music library and it once was an armour store. Situated at the base of the Gwalior fort, one should visit this to understand our rich culture a little more. The sculptures here are majorly from hindu scriptures. You find lots of peacocks around this palace and they even come down to feed around here in the mornings and evenings. Definitely a recommended place
