Absolutely one of the best dining experiences we’ve had; the selection was superb with perfectly complemented flavours and textures through each dish. We loved it so much we went for 3 courses and yea and coffee. Expensive but we’ll worth every penny. It’s hard to prepare vegan and veggie dishes to such a high standard. It takes a real talent to nail it like this.

Really lovely vegan place with very friendly staff, good service and good menu. The best dishes were the courgette flower and tortilla dish. The Boa was tasty as well. The aubergine and Katsu curry need more seasoning and flavour. I think if the chef and a little more intensity in flavours the dishes could be elevated. Overall a good restaurant. Finish of with a pleasant walk by the river. Please be mindful that parking around this area is for 2h only hence try to park in a side road om Fulham Palace Road and then walk to the restaurant.

We can't believe this was our first visit.... It won't be out last?!! Inspiring food and wonderfully helpful staff. I have an allium allergy and they catered for this (with a more limited menu) but with no alternations.... Yes I actually ordered and received something off the 'standard' menu that wasn't a salad - amazing. Thank you The Gate Hammersmith we had an amazing evening xxx

Food was good. Service was mediocre. Atmosphere not much to talk about. Same song or songs on repeat. I can easily get the same meals at the same or better quality for less than half the exorbitant prices they charge here. I won't be returning.

Picked various dishes from the a la carte menu. Food was well presented, tasted lovely with all the flavours and was a good portion size. Dessert could be improved. Would recommend coming to this restaurant to try the food and have a enjoyable experience.

The food was great! They even let me change my scrambled eggs for scrambled tofu. Amazing quality and lovely coffee as well. Atmosphere was okay not special, service was great though. Very friendly.

I originally came to this place knowing that they are autism friendly (through national autistic society autism friendly restaurant) and my experience with them has exceeded my expectations. Not only is the food great quality, but the atmosphere is spot on! On top of these, their service is exceptional and the server with the blonde hair and glasses is the absolute best! 🙂

Love it!! Such a lovely place, lovely vibes, lovely staff!! Food amazing!! Completely forgot there was no meat! Will be coming back! Photo includes the following dishes: bottom left- tortillas, top left- aubergine schnitzel, top right- Thai red curry, bottom right- plantain starter. Do note that to access this restaurant you need to go up one flight of stairs which are a bit small. But omg love this place!

Very tasty vegetarian food, beautifully presented. Not the easiest place to find being tucked away behind the Temple Lodge Club but very comfortable, airy first floor dining room. If you like vegetarian food your perseverance in locating this establishment will be rewarded.

I found this place from reading food blogs about top vegetarian restaurants in London. I came with a group of six. I booked in advance. The service was excellent. I think I had the best vegetarian food ever. Food presentation was also very fine. Even though I am not vegetarian, the food was so good, I would like to come back. I highly recommend. I got the tortillas, they were amazing.

I don't understand the hype at all. The atmosphere is nice, foods are fresh and beautiful, BUT there is no flavour at all. We had the Gnocchi, Green Dragon Salad and Roasted Cauliflower. Everything tasted like plain vegetables. No chili, onions, herbs or other tasty ingredients or spices were used. We are used to eating a plant-based diet and this was one of the worst experiences. Drinks were good though.

What an amazing little restaurant! We stumbled on this place almost by accident when looking for somewhere near the Apollo and we are blown away by the food and drink on offer. There's a lovely little outside area and a great high ceiling indoor as well. The service is friendly and attentive and the food was delicious. Completely recommend it

Nice garden. Taste is good. Rissotto over cooked. Compare to the price should provide better quality of dishes.

One amazing experience! Totally worthy every penny. The food was delicious and I can say is the best vegetarian I have tried in the uk. Every plate is exquisite and enjoyable. The atmosphere is really nice and the people working are really patient and friendly. Highly recommend!!

Really amazing plant-based restaurant in Hammersmith. We had excellent service so not sure why some past reviews had negative experiences. Our waitress was really lovely and engaging! Great find!

I’m not vegan but my husband is. I’m hard pressed to go to fully vegan places with him normally but thought we’d give it a go. Had a lovely date night here a week ago. The starter of crispy courgette flowers and the main of chipotle mushrooms were well worth the cost and were sublime. Really enjoyed our night out here, and would happily have another. I love how vibrant and plentiful the vegan scene has become in London, so many great places to try out of which this, I hope, is the first!

Stumbled on this restaurant, strolling form Hammersmith bridge. A hidden restaurant in what looks like a converted church. The menu is all vegetarian and spreads across several cuisines. I had the Thai red curry which was excellent as the aubergines

What a gem! You could pass it without even knowing there is a restaurant in there. Lovely private garden for open seating. Top notch menu for plant based and vegetarian food lovers! Great selection, delicious food. Very nice selection of wines too, as well as natural juices. Excellent attentive service. Loved it.

Unbelievable food. The flavours were incredible. Presentation was perfect. Will be definitely recommending this play. We got the korean cauliflower and arancini for starters. The tagine and risotto for dinner. Not your normal risotto!!

Absolutely love this gem of a place. The food is beautifully crafted and the flavours are amazing. Though there are not too many options, they have a variety of options from all over the world. The atmosphere is really nice, in the summer you can sit outside, it feels like you’re in a Mediterranean country - love it! The staff are super friendly. The only downside is that the area immediately outside of the restaurant doesn’t make you feel safe and the car parking charges are on the high side.

Food is literally the best I’ve had in London. Every single dish was amazingly good and had such a lovely evening. This is such an undiscovered gem!!

Had to wait a long time for our food, approx 40 minutes after we had ordered. We only ordered two mains and had to remind the waitress twice about the wait for our orders. Our infant son of 10 months was getting cranky by that time. The food was though quite tasty , especially the Thai curry which we really enjoyed and highly recommended. The other downside was the 'discretionary' 12.5% added on the bill which I questioned the waitress a couple of times whether it was optional or compulsory but could not get a straight answer which was quite disappointing. I would have given it a 4 star otherwise. A bit pricey restaurant but definitely the vegan options and the quality of the food is worth it if you are looking to celebrate anniversary or an occasion :)

The booking system appears to be organised by some external booking app; meaning I could not phone and speak to anyone at the restaurant. There is a charge if you miss your allotted time. We arrived early and told to return at our allotted time despite the place being empty. The waiter was disinterested in explaining the meals. The chairs are uncomfortable and tables chic basic. The saving grace was the food was very good.

The atmosphere at The Gate was pleasant enough and the staff were very attentive and professional. The food was very average at best, the taste was very one dimensional and nothing really justified the price point bar the presentation, in my opinion, even in London. We got the truffle and mushroom arancini, courgette flower and korean fried cauliflower as starters. The arancini was well flavoured and light; the KFC had nothing all that korean about it - would expect much more flavouring than just battered pieces of caulflower with sesame based dip; the courgette flower had a nice salad base which cut through the slightly heavy batter and sweet potato. For the mains, the mushroom risotto was very tasty for the initial few mouthfuls, but the sauce is very heavy so it's difficult to enjoy the entire portion. The green dragon salad, although very well presented, doesn't warrant a whole main course - the sheer volume of salad was a little ridiculous, filling but again, the flavours dont drive you to want to finish the entire mound of salad - it'd probably do just as well as a starter/side. There is much better vegetarian food that can be found in London and especially for a place that specialises in vegetarian & vegan food, I expected better.

I had an absolutely delicious vegan meal. The food was incredible, great options, very good service and lovely atmosphere. Not expensive for the quality of food we received.

It is over 15 years since I last went to the Gate and it was still as good as I remember. Great space, enjoyable and fulfilling food, beautifully presented. Hopefully it won't be as long again before I return.

The problem here was not the menu, vibe or food but the service!! Three people travelled from Texas, one from Brighton, 3 out of 4 vegans who specifically chose this place. We waited 20 minutes with empty glasses for water. We requested 2 separate checks for 2 couples. We waited 15 minutes for our bills, as we watched our server walk right past our table and have a long conversation with another guest. It was not busy. When we finally got our bill it was not split into 2, but 4! It seems clear to me than when 12.5% discretionary service fee is added, there is no incentive for the waitstaff to care about their guests. As I also work in the hospitality industry, I always overtip, but not this time. We even had a reservation. Gate, dear? Not again. What was supposed to be a 22 year reunion left a bitter taste.

Loved The Gate on previous visits and so nice to be back post- lock down. Excellent vegan food, wines by the carafe and lovely service. Great relaxed atmosphere. Nice place to eat then walk down to the riverside. Highly recommend!

What a surprise to find a such good vegetarian restaurant in central London. We went for quick Sunday lunch on Easter Sunday without booking, but the host was very helpful to get us a table. The food were amazingly tasty... Three of us all enjoyed our order and satisfied... Don't forget to order desserts, I love vegetarian cheese cake!

  • 2/5 A 2 years ago on Google
It's okay... But nothing special. The menu just isn't that great, the mains are pretty generic and not that fancy. Red Thai curry? What's the point in that since you can get exactly the same for half the price at a Thai restaurant. Tortilla wraps? I can make that myself at home; it's just not very special. I had the mushroom risotto which was fine but a bit tasteless and a very small portion size. For the price (£40 each for bread + olives, a main each and shared the cheapest bottle of wine) you'd expect much better. Also the markup on some of the spirits is hilariously outrageous. £11.50 for a dram of Laphroaig 10 year old haha. You can buy a bottle of that for like £25. I believe that works out as a markup of around 1,200%? Bargain!

Superb vegetarian restaurant. Deserves its reputation as one of the very best. Imaginative, innovative veggie dishes.

It's a real hidden gem! Literally and food wise.  If not my friend who knows this restaurant well I would never be able to find it just passing by the building. This is a vegetarian restaurant one if the bests I have tried! We had such a nice, flavourful food, the coliflower fritters and  jackfruit taco followed by the Thai carry served on a banana leaf and the beatroot burger with the polenta cheeps were all such a treat. All portions were very generous. We also tried the deserts : chocolate mousse and a raspberry millefeuille which were delicious. Very relaxed atmosphere and lovely service. We will certainly be back.
