Neat museum in Otsu located on the lakes’ edge. It’s only 500 yen of adults but 300 with student discount. Its full of exhibits displaying fossils, taxidermies of lake wildlife, and artifacts. I especially enjoyed the replica of a 1950’s rural lake village. Sadly the aquarium was closed when my friends and I visited in late April. Maybe it’ll be open on my next trip. My only recommendation for the museum is to add more English descriptions. There was limited English, so I only was able to understand about 5 percent of all the descriptions. It may bring more tourists. I did however increase my knowledge on Lake Biwa by a lot today.

(Translated by Google) Currently, due to corona, you cannot enter the museum unless you make a reservation by email. Even if you go to the museum on the day without knowing the reservation, you can enter the museum because it will teach you how to register if there is a vacancy. It was a lot different from about 10 years ago, so this was the third time, but I was able to enjoy it with a fresh feeling. If you take a closer look, I think it will take a day. There is a small aquarium and a corner to experience, so I was able to enjoy it quite a bit even though the price was low.

(Translated by Google) A memorable museum that I have been familiar with since I was a child. The content is very spectacular, but the price is reasonable. There are no booths where additional charges will be charged even after entering the museum. I would like you to maintain this. It may take a limited time exhibition, but from the above wishes, I often enter with the intention of raising funds. In recent years, it has been renewed repeatedly, and each time it has evolved into a wonderful museum. It is a spot that children and adults can enjoy all day long. Even now as an adult, I never get tired of going out to play. You can also have a picnic on the lawn outside. I will continue to support you forever.

(Translated by Google) Ideal for parents and children. You can take a leisurely tour. Not only freshwater fish and shellfish that live in Lake Biwa, but also sturgeon in Lake Baikal can be seen alive. You can also learn about Naumann statues and strata. You can also spread your lunch on the rooftop or outside the building. The parking lot is fully equipped and it is easy to go by car. If you enter this museum, you will be exempted from the regular fee of 550 yen. (Translated by Google) I visited after going to Mizunomori. Mizunomori was also good, but this is also a wonderful facility. I was impressed that I often collected so many things. The building is also fashionable and I felt that I had no money in Shiga prefecture. It is now a reservation-based admission. I made a phone call, but he said that I could only make a reservation online. I will register the address soon. I received an email, specified the date and time, the number of people ... I think you can do it in a few minutes. High reproducibility. I was impressed that carp was really kept in Kawaya. Lake Biwa is deep ... (Translated by Google) The exhibition was very fulfilling! When I finished watching, I entered the museum around noon thinking that I would go out for lunch, but I finished watching just before the closing time. It was saved because there was a restaurant in the hall (laughs) Even though it's so voluminous, I'm surprised that the student fee is as low as ¥ 450. I was able to learn about the history of Lake Biwa's topography, plants, and creatures, as well as the creatures of various sizes that inhabit Lake Biwa today. There are commentary videos and recommended commentary panels by the curator everywhere, and I think it's nice that the curator's activities are in the foreground.

(Translated by Google) This museum is also the "Terao Family Residence" designated as a cultural property (historic site) designated by Suzuka City. It seems that the main building, detached room, storehouse, and well building were built in the late Edo period in 1816 and 1817. In addition, there is a building that has been handed down as an "earthquake hut" in the architecture after the Ansei earthquake, and it seems that the architecture and ink book of Bunkyu 4 (1864) remain. This "earthquake hut" is interesting, and I thought that even if it collapsed during an earthquake and was buried alive, I could somehow escape, so I am trying to reduce the weight of everything. The roof at that time was covered with cedar skin. The outer wall is made of wood without using earthen walls, and the inside is finished with paper on both the ceiling and walls. There is also a garden called "Tsubonouchi" and a street garden. A WC has been newly built to be used as a museum, but there is no private parking lot, so you will have to use a nearby coin parking lot. The inside of the building cannot be photographed.

Large museum with a lot of exhibits, ranging from geological to cultural. It also has a pretty decent freshwater aquarium at the end of the museum. Currently undergoing facade renovation and the outer part is mostly scaffolding. You currently need reservation to enter. Access is quite difficult and it is recommended to use your own car.

Also, I was personally impressed by the fact that various original publications of this place have been published and are made for each special exhibition.

(Translated by Google) An aquarium that takes up the largest lake in Japan, the ancient lake, Lake Biwa. Half is a museum of fossils and materials related to Lake Biwa, and the other half is an aquarium facility. The aquarium is pretty serious. Probably a freshwater aquarium that competes for one or two in the country. Lake Biwa has many organisms (endemic species) that are unique to Lake Biwa, including Silurus biwaensis, which is at the top of the Lake Biwa ecosystem. The tunnel aquarium, the river, and the aquarium that reproduces the inside of Lake Biwa are truly overwhelming. The second half is the world's freshwater fish aquarium, which is also amazing. Personally, I was scared of sturgeons in the aquarium where there are sturgeons. I got goose bumps on the largest sturgeon I've ever seen ... Super recommended aquarium!
