The gym and pool are great. I love swimming there. I've given 2 stars, however, because the online booking system is really bad. There's been quite a few times when the system is down and won't let me log in, usually on weekends. I don't know if they switch it off on a weekend. Yesterday the website didn't work at all. Today there were no sessions available for swimming so I called several times and left a message. Nobody got back to me. Just checked now and all swim sessions are now available to book... You really need to upgrade your systems. And also make it easier to book, at the moment you have to add a class to a basket, then check out the basket, then confirm your booking and then you have to confirm it again. It's also not mobile friendly and needs to be responsive to mobile devices. Gutted I didn't get to swim today, pretty disappointed...

Great sports facility with almost everything you could ask for. A gym, swimming pool and various other activities. I only used the gym, it has a separate oly weights room with multiple squat racks (5/6) and deadlifting platforms. It then has a fitness suite and various free weight sections and a stretching/plyo space. The ample parking is free to the public after 5pm and weekends - don't chance it as ANPR is in use. I was only visiting for a short while and so purchased 12 visits for £80. Other gyms in the area (Total Fitness) wanted a minimum 3 week membership plus a bunch of joining/admin fees which would have come out at £180.

I began to use The Edge Gym almost 2 months ago by purchasing 20 hours of personal training sessions. Unfortunately my timing meant most of my period spent at this gym was within the substituted training room(s) due to the summer refurbishment. That said, the booking system in place at the time for all members meant the limited capacity of gym space was never overcrowded and working out comfortably was still possible. Luckily, I managed to spend 2 weeks working out in the newly refurbished gym space which evidently had a lot of thought put into its layout due to its spaciousness and abundance of newly purchased state-of-the-art Technogym equipment everywhere. Whilst working out, it was great to see staff cleaners walking around disinfecting and cleaning the equipment after use of others. I would definitely recommend The Edge Gym to others - especially University of Leeds students, for which such a facility is an asset. I would also recommend investing in a personal trainer at The Edge if you have the means as my experience with Aimee Lewis was nothing short of lovely. Aimee focused on consolidating a strong foundation into my fitness by initially focusing solely on the basics of the mobility and posture required for optimising training at the gym. She then tailored my personal training programme each week to ensure I was both having fun and challenging myself a little more. I did spend a lot of time complaining to her how I hated what she put me through (lol) but I always left my gym sessions feeling so much better - both mentally and physically - each time. My lack of one star in this review is due to the membership options. I never purchased a membership as this was not required for personal training sessions. However, now that I had wanted to use The Edge without a personal trainer, I was unhappy to learn the membership options were nothing less than a 3-month direct debit programme. The option of 1-month would’ve been better as I plan on going away soon. The one-off passes are also quite extortionate in my opinion, so do bear that in mind for those of you who are unable to commit.

After ending my membership at Bannatyne Gym in Kirkstall, I was looking for a gym that was of equal standard; with a variety of classes and fully functional gym equipment (especially cardio), as well as a 25m pool. This gym definitely delivers on all aspects, I would definitely recommend someone takes a tour to see for themselves. Look forward to joining this gym soon, I may just try out the climbing wall too!

I had a brilliant time at the Edge The instructor at Aqua mobility is great and doesn't push you as I'm disabled and in pain all the time moving in water makes it easier to move,..

There are far better places to go and here's why: The Edge is malicious and predatory in it's pricing, taking advantage of students. £465 for a year... and that's the cheapest option for me) As a student, I have to pay rent, bills and generally live, money is something I need to keep on top of and univerities understand this. I was in complete shock when I found out an annual subscription cost £465, monthly subscriptions cost £40 or if you want an hour of badmintion it's going to cost £7. If you want to swim that's another subscription too. If you're not a student it's going to cost £540 annually Due to the fact I attend Leeds Beckett I was offered an "ALUMNI" membership. If you're a student at Leeds university that's slightly cheaper as it costs £290 annually (Which is still predatory on students no matter which university you attend) I recommend looking into Leeds Beckett memberships in terms of sports. Swimming costs £99, sports memeberships cost £139 and the Athletic union costs £198/£229.

This is the worst experience I’ve faced in a gym facility. I wanted to start swimming classes and the reception told me to email the swimming team. I did send an email but I received no response and then I sent another email but again no response. I went back to the reception and they said to me they were going to speak to the swimming team and I will get a correspondence. Unfortunately I am yet to receive any response from them. I don’t think it’s worth putting money to a service like this. Avoid it if you can at all cost!

Been a member here on and off for almost 10 years. Just wanted to give a shout out to Dale, one of the Edge reps. I spoke to another rep about referring a friend to the gym and whether they would be eligible for a discounted membership. I was told flatly that this is not something they do and it is something that I can give as feedback instead. The rep didn't even bother trying to find out if there was a referral scheme (maybe new or there maybe a training need?). However, Dale overheard the conversation, politely took over the conversation, went through the options and found a discounted referral rate for my friend. Great customer service from Dale, there was a willingness to get the extra info for me.

A proper gym that never has you waiting for equipment, even after the 5pm rush hour. After the renovation, there are endless squat/bench racks. Worth the price if an alumni, student or extra money. If you’re a premium student member, note you have to email the help service to get your guest passes and reservation for any other service besides the gym like sauna or pool.

Great facilities but mainly use the pool. Which is impossible to book online due to a terrible system. And often overrun in morning partially due to this and partially due to uni teams taking more lanes than they book

Excellent gym & the receptionist named George is absolutely class, always makes me smile! Only thing slightly frustrating is having to wait a while to use equipment sometimes because people are on their phones

My daughter has been doing swimming lessons hear for the past 3 years. Staff are wounderfull. Car park is free for the people with lessons. The lobby is big with a good amount of sofas to sit on, while watching the kids swimming lessons. I would recommend this place to every one. By far the best place for swimming lessons.

Took part in the Leeds University kickboxing tournament, which was a fantastic day. Caught some mild concussion. The staff were really helpful. Special mention to Jacob who went to A&E to get me a wheelchair, then wheeled me to A&E. Absolute legend. PS I hope you've started training Brazilian Juji-Jitsu.

I went for a full health and fitness assessment today with Andy & Slavi. It was a comprehensive, enlightening session with competent, professional, knowledgeable, helpful guys. The results and printed report offer a good insight into my current level of fitness and areas to work on. Very good customer service. Thanks guys 🙂.

I have a nice time in the Edge and have some personal trainings. My PT Molly is really nice, friendly and professional. She also knows a lot about nutrition. I have slight scoliosis, and we do a lot of spinal support training, it helps a lot☺️.

Great gym for students.. and they host all sorts of sporting events. For my visit I was able to watch friends play roller derby in one of their halls. Great amount of space and helpful staff at reception to let you know where to go

Although the gym is a bit pricey, I was willing to pay for another year due to the fantastic equipment they provide, as well as the amazing customer service and approachability from the team. The staff are super friendly and always willing to help with any questions or even at times (politely) step in and advise you on your training. Its always nice to feel like staff are there to help and motivate you - as well as being a friendly face - which is not something I can say for all gyms! Although all the staff are lovely, I have had the best experience with Slavi as he has always been super friendly to myself and others, and he given me some great advice or just a friendly chat and it feels like there is a proper nice gym community between the staff and the members because of these interactions! :)

I just come here for sauna n steam room. It is nice, but could do with a deep clean. Mold in showers, and changing stalls are dirty. Price is a bit on the high side.

Good: Gym staff are great and is equipped well. The environment is also great for a workout and the gym itself is very clean. Downside: It is REALLY busy during term time, so I understand the booking system to use the sauna, but it’s pretty annoying (they didn’t used to have this before Covid). The fact that a lost card costs £5 when you pay nearly £50 per month is also a joke. I don’t understand why they can’t use a QR code on the phone like most other gyms do (without issue). Overall: it’s a great gym, although I don’t think they can fully justify the price as it currently is. However, when I am back in Leeds, I certainly will rejoin as I’ve been coming here for years now.

Good gym but needs a proper cleaning staff. I’ve flagged this before several times at the desk and nothing has been done. I’ve been put off using the swimming facilities based on how bad the changing room smells of stagnant water. (Clearly not being mopped) . Hair buildup in the showers. The floors especially the yellow flooring near the fitness suite is so dirty and doesn’t look like it’s been cleaned since it was introduced. The men’s changing rooms smell disgusting especially in the toilet area and clearly aren’t cleaned regularly. The changing rooms in general aren’t cleaned. Unclean floors and showers. Overall the faculties in this gym are amazing and offer a great select of classes. But definitely the dirtiest gym I’ve had membership to .

Our 6 year old daughter comes here every Saturday morning for a 1:1 swimming lesson with Charlotte (sorry don’t know last name) for over a year now. My daughter also goes to a public lesson during the week with a council swimming baths, this said our daughter would not be at the level of swimming she is now without Charlottes input. Myself and my wife feel and think Charlotte does an AMAZING job with our 6 year old who sometimes her attention span can be short, Charlotte is very good at understanding how to mix it up / bring the lesson back on track. Well done Charlotte and keep up the great job you’re doing. I hope management pass this review on to Charlotte

I have been a member of the Edge for a very long time now. Excellent instructors in particularly Ali Kteich. I visited the gym last week and Ali gave me some excellent advice. He demonstrated the right techniques of how to do certain exercises to help with my back pain. The facilities are up to date, clean and a welcoming gym. The reception staff are very friendly and helpful especially Peter. The staff always makes me feel welcome. Thanks to everyone.

I have been at this gym over a year. The facilities are great and the upkeep is incredible however the staff everyday get worse if that’s even possible. They’re absolutely horrific and have no basic manners. I have friends + family who go to the leeds facility and have had numerous undertones of racism and unconscious biases towards them. This has been emailed but yet to be escalated further. They lack basic compassion and human decency. I don't think I got the memo were minorities have to adhere to different rules. Thorough training + screening should be done at the hiring process. & teach your staff to smile once in a while!

This is my second review as unfortunately I need to update. The good: a great pool and well equipped gym with a good range of classes The bad: class microphones seem to be constantly broken, frustrating attendees and instructors. Blocked drain smell in the small male showers. The inexcusable: black mould in the swim showers. But most of all. Today I was caught short after going to the toilet as not 1, not 2, but 3 toilets had no loo roll despite double dispensers. Additionally there was no hand paper in the dispensers by sinks either. I was left humiliated and unhygienic. The others things are just gripes but to pay "premium membership" for a place that can't provide basic sanitation needs is foul. Credit to the reception staff who did then sort this as soon as possible and gave me a feedback form however this should never be the state that any facility is left in.

The overall experience was not bad. However, one lady in the reception was not friendly at all. I avoided to talk to her as I know her attitude but she shout loudly 'how I can help you' while I was waiting for the other lady in the reception which was very friendly and smiley.

The Edge! I should have visited this months ago when i joined my university! Honestly, University of leeds students have a great space for sports for a reasonable price. They have studios, gym, pool, squash, badminton court, basket ball court, wall climbing and many more. I just got my Edge Club annual membership. Hope you get time to check it out soon! Happy time!
