Me and my partner went in for the happy hours (5-7) the cocktails were absolutely amazing, looked incredible and tasted even better. It worked out so cheap for them all and they really were a work of art. We were served by Ben, couldn't believe he said he was new as he produced the nicest cocktails we've ever tasted - and we are HUGE cocktail fans. Can't recommend enough for a budget friendly date night or catch up with friends - the music and asthetic of the place is beautiful too if you like getting some pics to remember your night by.

My siblings and I have played all the rooms, we love escape rooms and the escapologist is absolutely up there! It's really great fun and a fantastic hour of team building! Would definitely recommend!!

Staff was very friendly and welcoming, took us less than the 1 hour allocated time to complete the escape room. There were 2 rooms in total.

This weekend I visited the escapeologist twice Friday I did a harry potter inspired room which was incredible it was so much fun. AJ the lady that looked after us was really friendly and very helpful. Then Sunday we did the delirium room which was so much fun and very spooky but yet hilarious. Elliot the man who looked after us was brilliant he got right iinto character whilst commenting with us .

Wasn't the best experience. We booked the easy room because it was one of our first times attempting an escape room. I was expecting it to be easy because the plot guided you towards clues instead of writing random words and scribbles on a wall, to which you was expected to try each of them. A lot of pointless props and the props that were interesting had nothing to do with the game, just something to throw people off. Overall poorly written plot and no flow at all.

We have done a lot of escape rooms and I tried the Harry Potter themed one with my son. Disappointed with this room. Lock was faulty, torch didn’t work, clues were illogical, props were broken, parts of puzzles were missing. I asked for clues and no one responded. I walked out and couldn’t find anyone. Our quiz master was serving coffee and said she couldn’t help. No one watching the rooms. On finishing the room I didn’t realise it was over as no one was watching. Shame. I tried to feedback and was told ‘thank you for the feedback’ and to wait for an email.

We came with our son and his girlfriend for our first ever escape room over the weekend, we weren't sure what to expect but absolutely loved it. Such a clever idea and all the puzzle's were so interesting. The staff were fantastic and helped us through with clues when we needed them and there is a lovely bar at front to enjoy some drinks afterwards as well. Looking forward to coming back.

Visited the bar here last night, but was turned away by staff members for one drink as apparently the bar was too ‘rammed’ and they had to clean up. Yet there was nobody at the bar, just a few people sat down having a drink. There was a couple of staff members walking round who appeared to have nothing to do, yet still turned us away. Thought I’d write this review as I don’t think the owner would be pleased if they find out their staff are turning down business, because they simply couldn’t be bothered.

This was not a great overall experience. It was good for team bonding. None of the team members felt claustrophobic because the rooms were fairly spacious. The props were detailed and in line with the theme. However, a lot of the actions that needed to be taken to unlock things seemed illogical and there wasn't much direction. Therefore we did some of it in the wrong order by pure chance of getting codes we hadn't had the clue for by attempting to guess what we were supposed to do next. There were no vague indicators to keep you going unless you asked for clues, which were written in rhyme and not entirely helpful, especially when we were told to do things we had already done. One of the locks didn't work well at all so we spent a significant time retrying a code that was correct, wasting time. Additionally, there was no timer in the rooms, so we had no knowledge of how long we had left as we were told to keep phones in our pockets. We felt that there were too many props, so finding the next thing to do was very difficult. Also, there did not seem to be people watching the cameras all the time, which seemed like a health and safety risk and also a hindrance to our progress, as we do not believe it would be possible to escape the room without numerous clues. We could also hear the scary noises from the other rooms which were distracting. Overall it wasn't a negative experience, but due to the issues mentioned above, we wouldn't recommend it to others and probably wouldn't return to try another room.

Myself and some work colleagues tried the delirium room, great for team building. The puzzles were really good and the little added extra touches were amazing! The best escape room I’ve ever completed. The cocktail bar is an extra bonus! Lovely ambiance and decor. The cocktails were very tasty too. Definitely recommend! An extra thank you to the manager (Spencer) who’s customer service was exceptional!

3 couples did Vertic Alley. It was very tricky but we did escape in time, we had clues to help us. I would be suprised if anyone escaped without any clues!! We had great fun. Worth a visit

Had a brilliant time last week with my grandkids at The Escapologist. We played the Cell, their easy room which was great for my little ones to be challenged! We definitely will be back to play a harder room.

I've been here twice this week. I love escape rooms now. Fuming the second time because we were 2 mins off the record so I'm never taking my son again. Demmie was an amazing host but FYI she's only little so you won't see her behind the screens in reception. If you're weak of disposition like me then you'll jump when she pops her head around to say hello.

Been a few times, for drinks and now been for the escape rooms. We played the new fairy tale room with the kids for something different in the holidays and was a brilliant experience! Really well thought out and well designed, will certainly return for another game!

Did an escape room today for my sisters birthday, first time I had ever done one and I absolutely loved it! Lollie (I hope I got her name right) was an absolutely amazing host and made a great cocktail! Can't wait to go back again

Did a room there this weekend- escaped in less than half an hour- I've done a few before, but this wasn't very challenging and the staff seemed quite disinterested both when we arrived and when we left. "Escaped" into an empty corridor which was a bit of an anticlimax - I was expecting another room based on the amount of time we'd been in there. Didn't feel like it was great value for money.Did one at the previous site at Xscape a couple of years ago that was much better.

Did two rooms, cell and delirium. Both rooms were awesome! Cocktails were fabulous! All the staff were so friendly and welcoming apart from the female manager. Wasn't very welcoming or helpful and made us feel uncomfortable.

Thoroughly enjoyed our experience at the escapologist at Xscape. The rooms are so cleverly thought out and kept us on our toes. Will absolutely be returning and recommending!

My family and I attended Escapologist on Sunday and had a great time. The whole family (wife and 2 sons aged 10 & 14) were able to be involved and worked together to solve the puzzles and end escape. The staff were attentive and supportive throughout. Would definitely recommend and will attend again

Did two rooms today, ever after and the cell. Ever after was a disappointment considering it was the newest room, only half of you will have to solve problems which was a disappointment for the group. The cell was worse still, we knew it was an easy room however not worth the £40 so won't be doing that room again. We've been to escapeologist at The White rose previously so felt let down by these by the castleford branch as a whole. Staff were helpful on a whole especially while working with technical difficulties and are the main reason this review has any stars at all.

Uncomfortably warm and humid inside the game room making it difficult to focus on the puzzles. The puzzles themselves were not easy and had some questionable logic in them. Experienced 3 escape rooms before and this one unfortunately was my least favourite, can't recommend the escape room Vertic-Ally but the cocktail bar was pretty good despite being understaffed (1 Staff member to run the bar and game rooms at the same time)

It was okay, the puzzles where good not too difficult but not too easy either, so the puzzles where just right. Unfortunately it's a little cramped for an escape room, I'd say two people max realistically. Well that was the one we did anyway. The staff don't seem that bothered but they are polite so it's no big deal. It was okay, I'm not complaining, it's something to do.

Birthday party for my 10 year old planed and booked a month in advance only to find out they had booked us in an hour later than what was agreed. When arguing they started to tell me that this was confirmed via Email but I never received one. Then they tried to blame a colleague that is no longer with them but the girl who booked me in was the one serving us that day! She denied it and didn't admit to any fault. Then a guy came and started to tell me that they would have never booked us in for 12 because that's not what they do! Absolutely ridiculous. In the end they let us in 20 min after the agreed time but as it was a birthday party for children they didn't let us finish the last puzzle because the time was up and we had to leave. Even though I discussed with them that the treasure box with the party bags should be behind the last door for the girls to find. But nope! They haven't done any of it. What also disappointed was that the employees really have an attitude towards their guest and also don't care if you are upset and usually don't have a clue of what they are doing. You ask a question and they will phone someone for 10 min to find out regardless of what it is. Also as others have mentioned the rooms are very small and so warm 🥵. I would never go back. Too expensive for what it is. I paid less for 2h bowling the same day for the girls. Crazy.

My friend and I visited Escapologist at Xscape about a month ago with our 9 year old children - a birthday treat for them. The introduction was rushed and not to the usual standard at all. It was very apparent no one was watching the cameras constantly. We came unstuck early on as there was a piece missing. Leo came into the room to help us after we had waved various times for help. He told us there was a piece missing - surely during set up these things are checked? This set us back. We then needed a further clue and we were given clues for things we had already done which was impossible to communicate via the screen. Leo had said that it was busy and we may have to wait, but it was very frustrating, particularly for the two boys during their first experience, to have to wait and then be given clues which didn't help. At one point, my friend had to leave the room to get help as no one had come after much waving at the camera. She found just one person manning several rooms on the screens. There was also an issue with the screens (wanted posters) which didn't switch on when we flicked the switch. This again delayed us after we had to wave several times and explain that they weren't working. When they did work, they kept flicking on and off and 'loading' - again wasting time. We did tell Leo that it wasn't a good experience to which his response was, 'at least you escaped'. As you can imagine this was very disappointing given the fact we'd brought our children for their first ever escape room! There was no offer of compensation despite the fact that the room did not run smoothly at all and worse, not even an apology! The whole experience felt amateur and not at all like our previous experiences. In addition to our experience, the room seemed run down - pieces not stuck down/ maintained, bits missing etc. I emailed the above complaint directly and then to head office but NO RESPONSE. Absolutely shocking customer service.
