Great place to relax and take some quiet time for your mental health and well being. Really kind, friendly and welcoming atmosphere. I recommend the mindfulness and meditation classes and the introduction to Buddhism course. They've really changed my outlook on life, the mind, and how to live. One thing I really took from the Intro to Buddhism course which for me was life changing, was that the one thing you can change in life is yourself, and how you react to life events challenging or difficult people around you. Reacting with kindness, empathy and understanding brings a calmer, more positive and healthy life. Practicing mindfulness and meditation is and has helped me calm some of my over thinking, and anxiety, and improve the way I react. I am working toward a better happier life and my first steps began at the centre. The cafe and shop are worth a visit too.

Jamyang Buddhist Centre Leeds (JBCL) is a warm and friendly meditation space in Leeds city centre - near Park Square - 5 mins walk from Leeds train station. Meditation; retreats; philosophy; courses; study; silence; puja; prayer; recitation and a wonderful variety of teas before and after sessions. They have a Tibetan Buddhist nun and geshes from London and Sheffield as well as respected teachers from the Gelug tradition leading one-off courses or retreats. If you are looking for an introduction to Buddhism or for a supportive community, Jamyang Buddhist Centre Leeds follows advice from His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

I visited the drop in mediation session open eve ey Tues and Thursday lunchtime from 12.30, suggested £3 donations. I would reccomend this as a lovely place to unwind and be still from a busy day. The centre has a nice cafe and charity shop on site.

I first went to Jamyang Leeds in 2006 since when it has moved to a larger venue and has increased its number of drop-in non-denominational meditation sessions at lunchtimes to two, on Tuesday & Thursday, and an evening afterwork session on Mondays. A great freindly place to learn Meditation and to go to regularly to develop and maintain a meditation routine. If you are looking to develop an understanding of the Buddhist view on life there are also classes and weekend courses and advice on books to read.

The centre is a lovely place where you can sit and learn to meditate and be with yourself. It offers meditation sessions and classes on Buddhism during lunch hours and in the evenings during the week plus classes on weekends. If you plan to visit, check their website (jamyangleeds.co.uk) for meditation and class timetable as it isn't often all the time. Peace to all those who knock on the door of Jamyang Leeds.

I first walked through the doors about 3 years ago now and I’m so pleased I did. I’ve learnt so much more about Buddhism than I ever did from reading alone. The community is so fabulous and really welcoming. We’ve just moved this year from rented space on St Paul’s street and then York place in the city centre to our own premises for the first time at Clyde works in Holbeck. All the community and volunteers have been so generous with their time and donations and the downstairs area including a lovely cafe is now complete. Jamyang is a member of the Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana tradition or fpmt for short under the spiritual direction of Lama Zopa. It’s a form of Tibetan Buddhism with His Holiness the Dalai Lama as head. If you’re curious to know more come along sometime. There’s always lots going on from lunchtime meditation to teachings from very special guests. This last weekend I went along to teachings from the Abbot of Nalanda Monestary in France which was very thought provoking.

I have been at least trying to be some sort of Buddhist since I was 8 years old but have always struggled to find my place in any kind of Buddhist community. After the start of the Pandemic I became more concerned to Practice in an informed and grounded manner. Volunteering at Jamyang has rooted me in what we call Sangha for the first time in my life and I have found the confidence to assert that "I am a Buddhist." We might in fact literally say that I have taken Refuge here. A real point of calm in this busy city
