I can't believe this restaurant only gets 4.3 stars. Be prepared. All the dishes are not only spicy but may made your tongue numb because of the Sichuan Pepper. Please order Hot pot Fish! This will blow your mind! This is definitely the restaurant that I would like to revisit to explore more dishes! Great job!

The spicy chicken lives up to the hype! Definitely the hottest popcorn chicken I’ve ever eaten. My mouth was numb and I was guzzling water nonstop. The space is aesthetic and spacious too. Highly recommend

One of the best Chinese food you can find in town. I took bad photos but every dish and drink was amazing. We also got the off menu. My friends and I had a great night here. Please do come visit if you are in Evanston, or Chicago.

We came in after we saw Peppercorns Kitchen on a recent episode of the show "Check Please." We had the spicy fish filet, the hot pot, and to be adventurous, we tried the Ox Tendon and Maw in Chili Sauce. Everything was great. We also had my go-to item, Honey Walnut Shrimp. We also asked for steamed vegetable in a light white sauce, which they custom made for us. They were very accommodating. I will come back again soon.

This is one of the most authentic Chinese food in Evanston so we came here a lot. Just feel like the portion of each dish shrunk after pandemic while the taste is still nice. We were in a rush today and the waiter was very helpful in speed up our dishes. Thanks! Oh I came back again after a week and that waiter remembered me, and asked if I am in rush this time. Lol. Cute

Good stuff. Their braised pork belly is lovely but very filling, and their other menu options do not at all disappoint. It can sometimes get packed on Fridays, so plan ahead.

Peppercorns Kitchen has very good food. I tried the beef short ribs with pumpkin sauce and the fried shrimp in typhoon shelter style during the 2023 Chinese lunar new year special. I also tried the braised pork belly that tasted very similar to how my mom makes it. The servers were very nice and efficient at their job

Recommend: Chili oil dumplings Sweet and aromatic, authentic rendition of chili oil dumplings. Dandan noodles were well seasoned and was huge in portion; I felt that the noodles could have been fresher and firmer in texture. Free infused water offered.

This is my go-to-place for Chinese food. So authentic! We live in Chicago proper, but still drive up to Evanston to eat here often. Their beef dish is amazing, so tender and well spiced. A real gem!

Great food here. Had the Mongolian beef lunch special. The meat had almost no fat on it. Sauce had a nice little kick to it. And the spring roll crunchy on the outside.

Dishes taste ok; size is very small. Walnut shrimp too much batter? Different recipe from others ate before.

It's decent Chinese food. It's way better than American Chinese food. Great service fast and efficient.

This place’s food is both delicious and authentic. I don’t like most American Chinese dishes, but this place really opened me up to a new type of food. My favorite entrees have to be the Salty Crispy Chicken and the Stir Fried Pork Intestines. I honestly recommend this place to anyone and everyone looking to find great Chinese food.

Excellent flavors and textures. Enjoyed Mandarin chicken, broccoli beef, and house combination with flat noodles all after starting with hot and sour soup which was a delight. Friendly service! A neighborhood gem!

Thank god for Peppercorns Kitchen! It is the only place in Evanston we trust for Chinese food. During the pandemic we phone in our order for pickup, it’s typically ready in 20 minutes, and they are good about special requests. (We always request no rice, no chopsticks—we use our own!) Favorites include cumin lamb, popcorn chicken, pea shoots with garlic, and fish soup.

I absolutely love this place!! The food is authentic and delicious! The quality of the ingredients and the flavors are on point and I'm so happy to discover this place as I no longer have to make the hike to Chinatown for authentic Schezuan food. Everything was made really well. The service was also really nice and the place is also clean and they take proper precautions during covid. I highly recommend!!! We got #58 which is a Chef's Special of beef and vegetables such as exotic mushrooms cooked in a stone pot (my favorite). We also got the Sour fish soup with mustard greens and the Dry chilli wood ear mushrooms (omg so good!!) And the kids got more basic Chinese foods and dime sum. So happy!!!

I usually don’t write bad reviews but I just ordered takeout and bit into RAW beef…um..it also tasted powdery so I’m pretty sure the cornstarch also didn’t dissolve/cook through properly…the dish was the flat noodles with beef…really disappointed because I heard good things about this place :/ Maybe it was just a bad night but raw beef?!? not slay

On Tuesday night we placed an online order. We arrived 3 minutes after the given pickup time. The restaurant was not busy and Northwestern students were on break. The restaurant could not find our order. It took about 10 minutes to cook our order. There was no apology for their error. The scallion pancakes were burned and greasy. They had no sauce to enhance the flavor. The Dan Dan noodles were good and consistent with what we'd had before at Peppercorns. The mapo tofu was way too salty and barely edible. Finally, the Mongolian chicken was ok but had few scallions. The dish had onions and mushrooms. Mushrooms are not normal in Mongolian chicken recipes. This was the worst experience we had at Peppercorns. We have had a number of orders with very positive results.

Authentic Chinese cuisine and, if you want, delicious American Chinese food too. (Take it from me: a white guy)

Maybe I just ordered wrong but I was very disappointed. The hot tea was delivered cold, though the replacement was fine. The ribs with black bean sauce were all fat, the curdled egg with pork was tasteless. No one asked how my food was.
