The area is beautiful but nothing special. At 9am the beach is empty, however the Pacifica State beach nearby is booming. It has a dangerous parking lot location. You need to cross a busy hwy 1 that is curved and no official pedestrian walk. For slow people it might be a life or death situation especially if the area is foggy. Anyone needs to be very careful to cross the road. Recomend this beach for anyone who does not want to see other people or doesn't want to be seen. No food is available for sale. Parking lot is getting full quickly. By 9am on Saturday it is almost full. People are also using this parking lot for walking on the trails which is on the same side where parking lot is. Therefore, it is safe for them. Also you can see the beach from the top of the hill that is north of the beach. In this case the parking lot is up north on the left side. It is very small but safe.

Awesome roadside attraction, worth the small hike from the free parking lot just south of the tunnels on hwy 1. Awesome old military bunker, beautiful sights all around, fun stuff!

The parking lot is across from the street, so be very careful crossing. Once across, you'll see a swing hang by the trees, and on your right-hand side are the stairs to go down. We saw a few naked people there even though there were a lot of children. The beach looks clean. I don't no recommend bringing babies in strollers or car seats because there are a lot of steps to go down. Enjoy and have fun!

I spent my Memorial Day here. When I arrived the parking lot was full but I didn’t even have to wait more than 5 minutes before someone left. The beach was moderately busy. After going down the stairs to reach the beach there is a rocky area to the right that hides many secluded areas. There are several smooth flat surfaces on the rocks that one could comfortably lounge on. If you’re comfortable traversing the rocks then you can reach the right side of the beach.

Calm warm beach that is not overcrowded and has free parking! There is wooden stairs to access the beach.

Really beautiful small beach! It is super scenic and sheltered at the same time. The sand is super nice much like Montara State beach just down the coast, and the water is as blue as Bay Area beaches can get. Looks out due west so sunsets are perfect! Parking is across the road at the top. Be careful crossing the road since people tend to drive fast and there is not a designated crosswalk or anything. There are stairs down the hill so accessibility is made simple

Great whale cove is a very pretty beach on the outskirts of Pacifica town. It's a tiny crazy with clean water and sand. The parking lot to this beach can fall short for busy weekends so I'd recommend going on the morning before 10am. There are 2 swings on the foothill that overlooks the beach with a great view. To get to the beach you need to go down 60 odd steps on written stairs so it is not accessible if that is a constraint for you.

Amazing! Getting in is pretty dicey having to cross the hi way on foot so I don’t think I’d bring kids but it’s such a cool beach otherwise.

It is a beautiful little beach surrounded by cliffs. One of the best beaches in the area. - Accessing the beach: Cross the road from the parking lot to access trail to the beach. There are about a hundred steps down to the beach. Be careful crossing the road, there are no crossing signs on the road. The drivers will not be able to see you. - Parking: Parking is small and could get full very quickly. There is a little overflow parking up the road within the parking lot. - Restrooms: There are a couple of portable chemical restrooms near the overflow parking. No restrooms at the beach. There are a couple of vault toilets half mile north at the devils slide parking lot.

It's great. Usually packed on the weekends. You probably won't find parking very easily. Parking lot is a hot mess and your car will bottom out. 400 stairs down to the beach so leave grandma at home. Good luck crossing the highway. You really gotta just go for it because the cars coming around that blind curve will not see you.

Beautiful cove with scenic beach. The parking is across Highway 1 and can be a little tricky to cross with busy traffic coming from both the sides. There are steps to get down to the beach.

This place is so relaxing, went here with my son. We watched birds 🦅 and waves for few hrs. There were also about 15 fishing vessels about mile in the sea. We observed them and my son wanted to know what they were doing why they catching fishes, how etc. So while I’m explaining to him 50 different things. I just felt connected to nature and surrounding area. Also to mention it was super clean. Lots of friendly folks as well. Definitely going back again.

Nice spot. We had it almost to ourselves on a weekday before noon. You have to dash across two lanes of traffic to get there and back though. There is a short steep incline to go down as you pass a gate blocking cars. Also, there is a clothing optional section.

Great Beach for sunsets, and a very nice place to stop for a picnic. The hike down is a bit tough so bring walking shoes. Also the parking lot fills pretty quickly on the weekend so get there early.

This place is so nice, relaxing and just beautiful you don't need to pay for anything just bring your food and drinks. A great place to take the family or have a picnic. I suggest to come early though because parking gets full. And you need to be careful when crossing the highway to get to the beach. ⛱ 😎

Incredible beach and vibes. Not crowded at all thanks to the bonkers parking situation up top. I highly recommend getting here early in the morning, otherwise good luck. Great spot to take the kids and doesn't cost anything. Worth the work to get a parking space and then hike down to the beach itself.

Park across the street and walk down the steep asphalt. Go towards the right, down the stairs will take you to the beach. Great beach, big waves, and not many people.

Framed by majestic cliffs, this beach is a rare jewel on the 1. Pounding of the waves makes for an almost spiritual experience. It should be noted that this is a clothing optional beach

Nice secluded beach no life guard so be careful of the rip current. Funny thing too is a great white shark attacked a surfer three hours prior to us showing up might have been why it's was so barren there. Careful crossing the street as well, the parking is across the street from the beach and the road is very busy and both sides have curves so it's hard to see cars coming.

One of my favorite beaches in the San Francisco bay area. It's about 30 minutes south of the city in between Pacifica and Half Moon Bay. It's a bit secluded or a secret beach because you don't see it from Highway 1, and you will probably miss the parking area if you aren't paying attention. Plus it's a little dangerous because you have to walk across Highway 1 from the parking lot to get to the trail that leads to the beach and there are no pediatrian signs. Once across the street it's a short walk down and also be careful of the old wooden stairs, as some of the planks have gaps. But when you finally make it to the beach you'll be rewarded with a wonderful beach that has wind protection from the 2 hills on each end. While other nearby beaches are windy and cold this beach can be pleasant and warm.

Fantastic place for watching wave and enjoy the ocean view in north California. overall the beach is beautiful and the visitors were fewer than usual due to the recent incident in half moon bay. The stairs were very tall and slippery, covered by the sand which other visitors brought from the beach. If falling fron the top the beautiful view would become the last thing you remember about the earth.

Awesome beach! There are two parking lots, one is further away in a bit of a hike to get to the actual beach, but the other is fairly close, and requires a number of stairs.

Very beautiful and serene. But the parking lot is on the other side of the highway. And there's no crosswalk, so it's hard to cross. Going down also involves a very short but steep trail before the stairs.

Beautiful place to sit on the sand and watch the waves. I would not recommend going in the water because of the strong rip currents and it looks quite dangerous... it just a beautiful place to chill on the white sand and look at the beautiful ocean and the huge waves...

You park up off the 1 Highway and have to cross super quick to get to the main trail leading down to this little gem! Less people, beautiful views of the bluffs, and cool waves. I don't recommend for surfing since the waves have big drops, but it's cool to chill at!

Definitely one of our favorite local beaches to go when it's sunny and warm. Hiding between Pacifica and Half Moon Bay, there is a short hike with several flights of stairs from the parking lot. Parking can be hard to find so go early. The water has a lighter shade of blue that are less often seen in California beaches. Definitely not as crowded as other nearby beaches likely because of the limited parking space.

Used to be a beautiful place now just trashed by visitors who don’t care about anything but themselves. Human waste in the main parking lot, upper parking or has become a dumping ground for construction trash, litter everywhere and illegally parked Boondocking.

If your legs are strong and can handle the 60 plus stairs, its a beautiful beach! But I doubt you will go further in the water than your knees as its very deep and cold! Sand is beautiful. Get a coffee in Pacifica on your way home!

This is a hidden gem. Very nice clean beach and not too busy. Perhaps its the 148 steps down/up to the beach and out? It's all worth it and just take the bite. By the time you get down to the beach your body will look great and in shape for a beach bod ;-)
