Wow! I haven't been in a museum in a while, but this one blow me away! So much history and beauty, it is hard to describe and even the photos can't quite show how impressive and amazing the place is. I had an amazing time and if you are in the area I highly recommend visiting the Ducale Palace.

The beautiful Palazzo Ducale is easily accessible as it is the heart of the city of Mantova. From the outside you can perceive it’s size, but once you’re visiting it on the inside you get to understand what a labyrinth it actually is. Is has a incredible amount of rooms, which almost all of them have been restored to their best state. Their ceilings are known to be one by one a masterpiece in themselves. It’s a real treat to the eye, a visit to this palace. This visit will take you some time though, as it is so large inside. Good to know is that tickets are free for architecture students, as long as you prove it.

Truly palatial as we would say, dozens of rooms stuffed with magnificent treasures, entrancing views, stunning tapestries by Raphael, frescoes by Mantegna, Grechetto’s finest canvas, antique sculpture, more painted ceilings than you could ever imagine, secret gardens… it goes on and on. Definitely put it on the top of your list along with the stunning and bizarre Palazzo Te on the outskirts of the city—Guilio Romano had a hand in both projects.

Honestly, I expected more from this palace, as a lot of people I know have always raved about it. The first part of the building is empty, with some dark paintings, therefore very ugly. The second part, however, is really very beautiful. About Camera degli Sposi, I thought it was more beautiful sincerely, but it's still nice to see it btw. However, what I didn't like at all is that you have to leave your umbrellas/things at the entrance, you have to put your backpack in front of you (literally no sense) and they are absolutely faithful to the time of entry. Too many people giving themselves importance in this museum...To then recover the things left at the entrance, you must exit completely and re-enter from where you entered. If it rains you literally get wet. Absolutely an awful management

Vast palace complex with very grand decorations and some lovely paintings. We had some difficulty finding our way around though. There was one section in particular that was shown on the map and we just could not figure out how to get there. Another section on the map didn't seem to be open.

Great surprise in Montova which Is by no means the best known city of Italy, but this palace felt more as it was at the time than other more re-designed places. And if your kids know their Greek mythology (Illiad and Odyssey) this is like a giant comic strip. Don’t let the kids miss the horses painted on the roof. They change direction when the looker moves! Much more spectacular than Mona Lisa looking your way at the Louvre in Paris!

Impressive building with a seemingly endless array of rooms, some of which are quite impressive but there are so many and they are so similar that despite being surrounded by frescoes and carved ceilings, I actually found myself somewhat bored after a while.

Absolutely huge Palace with reportedly 1000 rooms. Not all open to the public. Awesome ceilings, paintings, frescos, artifacts etc and courtyard gardens. Has a one way route and it takes a long time to get around. So in the end a sensory overload.

A must. There are so many paintings and so many rooms that 2 hours are enough just to understand it's beauty. The Italian Buckingham Palace. Judge you if it's better or not. Enjoy

Well kept and organized museum. However, many exhibits were either missing information or having it only in italian. If you buy the ticket from counter, pay attention to entry time. Although it wasn’t told, the validity of the ticket is for particular entry times. Overall worth seeing.

It was a very nice place to visit. if you are younger than 26 it cost only 2 euros if you are older you have to pay 16 euros. Don't bring big backpacks with you, they make you carry it in the hand or on the front.

Amazing museum, very organised and there's lots to see for everyone, you can admire the beautiful architecture, the courts and the rooms inside have very helpful descriptions, in italian, english and german. There's art exhibitions you can look at, all organised and well documented pieces. There's old artefacts, minerals, fossils, seashells, oddities, someting for everyone. (but please don't bring your small childern, i really don't see the reason for that) Be prepared although, it's a really long museum itinerary. There's also discounts for students.

Amazing place. Overload for the eyes, should go there 2 or 3x to really see it all. Would be great to have guided tours.

  • 1/5 Unicorn 10 months ago on Google
They have construction everywhere, stairs standing around and for 16€ entrance they should mention either or give a discount. I don’t recommend going these days because it ruins the experience also considering 16€ is quite expensive, they should discount when having so much construction around.

Plan to come on a weekday because you can have the bridal chamber to yourself. We could tell that they were used to crowds but there was almost no one there at all. MUST SEE!! Do not skip this amazing palace when you are near Mantua. I can’t post photos of the beautiful interiors, but they will feed your soul.

  • 1/5 Emily W. 1 year ago on Google
The place itself is lovely but having missed THE sight (camera degli sposi) because I missed a sign, and went around to the entrance to explain (as advised in the gift shop) staff tried to insist I had to buy another 15 EUR ticket to re-enter - one lady in particular was VERY hostile and aggressive about it. It took a long time to persuade her that it made no sense, I’d purchased the ticket to see the room and had only spent an hour and 20 min going round the place! And I could prove I hadn’t seen the room by showing the photos I’d taken as I went round! Very very unwelcoming, felt more particularly hostile like airport security rather than staff welcoming visitors to a historical attraction.

(Translated by Google) WONDERFUL. there are no words. Mantegna's paintings should be admired once a week. Curated exhibition, highly trained staff available to give some anecdote to slightly bored children. The only drawback, due to anti-covid provisions, the visit is limited and many rooms cannot be visited. Visited on a Friday, it was pretty much all for us. Mostra curata, personale preparatissimo e disponibile ad elargire qualche aneddoto ai bambini un po' annoiati. • 3/5 Ines V. 5 years ago on Google
Beautiful outside, some rooms are very sparse and some very ornate, but the ceilings were beautiful. Audioguide quality was so-so and there was a contemporary art exhibition in some of the rooms which had no explanations and made things a bit gruesome because of the blood& bodily innard themes which the artist seemed focused on.

(Translated by Google) Worth a visit even if it doesn't seem like it from my judgment. I am critical because I found the exterior uncared for, the two internal courtyards did not convey the idea of the pomp and cultural ferment of Renaissance Mantua. Even the first rooms, after the wedding room do not encourage you to continue .... but do it because it's worth it !! Even the ticket office would need a little more breathing room 😉 (Original) Merita una visita anche se non sembra dal mio giudizio. Sono critica perché ho trovato l'esterno poco curato, le due corti interne non trasmettevano l'idea del fasto e del fermento culturale della Mantova rinascimentale. (Translated by Google) The low score is certainly not for the building, but for the poor care of the museum itinerary. A first part with the Camera degli Sposi completely detached from its context and with a too modern entrance. In many rooms and halls the little and bad lighting did not allow to fully enjoy both the paintings, many more in need of at least a good cleaning, and the decorations and architecture. There are many beautiful coffers that decorate the ceilings and some spectacular halls and corridors, these well lit. I felt the lack of a guide and headphones were not available, perhaps due to the coronavirus. Perhaps creating an APP would have alleviated the problem. Peccato
