I visited this market back in March while being in Mexico. You can literally find here anything; shoes, clothes, food or kitchen tools. This is a place where locals go when they do their shopping or want to grab some food. I bought my tortilla press here for not even 4 euros (4 USD) which I have been using happily since 🥳🤘🏼Not being a fan of having loads of unnecessarily kitchen tools as I’m living a small apartment, but I’ve been making so many tortillas last years that I thought it might be worth to invest in a tortilla press to save time and energy. I have just shared a taco recipe on my YouTube channel and show in that video how to make tortillas from scratch. You can watch it by searching on YouTube for “Forketti Shrimp Taco”.

This is the heart of Merida where the locals buy and sell everything. It's hot and overwhelming but awe inspiring. We hired a guide for our first visit to learn how to navigate it, which was very helpful. You need to speak Spanish. Be careful of "gringo" price inflation - tho it will still be a much better price than the tourist areas.

The real deal! If you’re used to local Mexico living this is your kind of place, 99% local, actually we saw only locals, but this is where it all happens, best food, best local experience, get your Spanish ready you’re going to need it! My kind of place, friendly, helpful, enjoyable. Can’t wait to go back! Prices are great, the meat market is huge!

I give it a five-star for fun and everything besides prepared food. For that I give it a zero star. The luster of eating at a Mercado is gone forever for me. Don't get me wrong it is an incredible place to buy about everything else especially in this mercado because it's so big. They have everything you could ever imagine but I think my favorite is the candy, the spices, and the flowers they sell. There's also a lot of additional fun things you can look at and buy there but food is not one of them. I used to go everyday and buy a fruit cocktail, Mexican eggs, and a juice, it was so fun. But oftentimes I had a bad experience or I could tell there was very little concern in the ingredients used in general to prepare the food. The meat is often times left over from the previous day, sitting out all day, and almost always has flies all over it. Last but definitely not least!! I got to witness something very interesting today when the strong afternoon rain came. I was inside taking shelter from the rain and I noticed that the cockroaches had realized the sewers were filling up with water. I watched hundreds of bugs and cockroaches scurrying out of the drain and taking refuge underneath the very portable restaurants that I've been buying the food from. In terms of prepared food I would like to say goodbye to all the mercados lol.

Crazy place, friendly for the most part, difficult to navigate and park your car. But great fruit and veggies. I went during extreme heat (Aug. 2023), so was uncomfortable with heat and flies. But found what I needed. There's an upstairs too.

This place is really characteristic and interesting: you can find a huge variety of typical products, which can be something new for someone coming from overseas. Spices, fruits and meat cuts never seen before are really something worth a visit. Along with that, the atmosphere is authentic and vibrant: people eating, someone playing instruments and the usual chaos of markets. Nonetheless, the huge quantity of people (in such a large but yet tight area) and the general dirtiness of the place, made it a slightly uncomfortable experience after a while. Still a must see if you are in Mérida.

Several hundred vendors were found in one central location. It has everything that you need from foodstuff to even electrical products.

It's massive plan on being at this market for 3 or 4 hours and even then you will miss alot. Lots of great produce and food stalls plus local wares.

Great local place for tacos and tortas with local prices. It's a little intimidating at first as there are less to no tourists here but one gets the hang of it.

Huge, authentic market, almost only locals. Very cheap prices. You will find almost everything: Meat, vegetables, fruit, spices, shoes, clothes, hardware, animals... . Craftsmen repair phones, shoes and jewelry. Taco-Factories. Lots of places to eat cheap, local food. All the Hustle and Bustle a market needs!

Hardly anything open, very dirty everywhere, and really awful smells. Have been to a lot of beautiful markets in Mexico but this wasn't one unfortunately.

Very vibrant market in the heart of centro Merida. You can find anything and everything here. If you are not used to large noisy markets it may feel overwhelming. It is the real essence of the city.

very good market for whatever you need while in town. We came to get fresh fish and greens and were not dissapointed though like many mercados in Mexico it is a maze getting around. Just ask a vendor for helping finding whatever you need and they will point you in the right direction.

It's a big (for Merida) Latin American market. There is a surprising array of stuff available if you take the time to search for it

Great place to shop, very crowded and a great place to get a full experience of an open market.

Economical. From fresh fruits to vegetables and haircuts and food stands and plenty of more you can find it cheaper than any other places in Mérida.

Loved the place! Extended variety of products. Plan to stay for at least 3 hours and you won't still see it all. The parking lot is underground. Visited several times and bought from jewelry, regional clothing, fruit, spices, hammock and bags. It felt very safe and the vendors were kind. Stay hydrated! I'd go back in a heartbeat!!!

An awesome market. Try the Torta stand in the middle and bring your own grocery bags. Always get ready for crowded stalls and funny smells, but I love these type of places.
