I'll give you an honest review as a former employee There are usually 1-3 ophthalmologists here at all times and they see all types of eye emergencies - from mild irritation and blurring to completely ruptured eyeballs. There are no scheduled appointments, and anyone can walk in and be seen. Each encounter takes approximately 4 hours from start to finish. If there are 10 people ahead of you... you do the math. Administration has short-staffed this ER so some doctors are working 24 hours at a time. More serious conditions are seen first. So if you have a chronic condition or a condition which is less severe - you should expect other people to be called before you. You have other options to address your eye complaints - including calling an eye doctor near you to schedule an appointment or going to an urgent care closer to you. If you have a true eye emergency or if your own eye doctor referred you here, there is simply no other option. These are the best physicians in the area. If you have a less serious condition - be prepared to wait.

I work in healthcare and understand and expect an extended wait in any ED - especially during these recent months. After having been diagnosed with a stye several days prior, I experienced blurred/impaired vision and I feared infection began and was seeking antibiotic treatment. After 4 hours of wait, the nurse triage seemed more concerned about clearing the waiting room than my health. I was prepared to wait; however, the nurse told me "boy you picked a day to come to the ER" and "it's going to be at least another 4 hours to see a Dr.". In addition, the nurse provided clinical advise "crust typically means the stye is releasing its fluid and healing". The nurse discounted the severity of my complaints and, to my regret, convinced me to leave the ED. No alternative care options were provided. Perhaps the infection did not warrant an ED visit; but, I was willing to wait and should not have been made to feel foolish for my concern. The nurse should be counseled - Male nurse, 9/21/21, 7:30p triage time. The picture attached shows a potential infection 8 hours after leaving the waiting room. I was able to secure a same day appointment at an ophthalmologist/plastics at Lankenau hospital.

Too bad that there is no zero star. Worst ER. Don’t go there. Had injured eye, urgent care doc suggested to go the Wills Eye ER. Reached at 7pm, triaged at 7:45, the doctor wanted eyes to be dilated, drops were put in 7:50pm and then were told to sit in the waiting room until called. No one called until 12 am. Asked the front desk couple times, were told soon. We ended up leaving without the treatment and hopefully will find an eye doctor who could see us. If the place was full I understand that it takes time. But there were only 6-7 patients. Don’t call emergency room if you can’t handle emergencies. I know this review means nothing to the hospital admins, they still get paid. Who cares about patients.

Probably the longest wait I've had in any emergency room. I came in with my right eye swollen, red and tearing up and I came in to get it checked out. They checked me in right away and they dilated my eyes after waiting for 20 minutes. However, after this was over, I waited 4 hours to see an actual doctor. My eye was absolutely swelling at this point and it was awful trying to wait while in pain. The doctor I had was lovely, but it took 2 hours to get discharged, as well. I got the antibiotics I needed, but I shouldn't have spent 6 hours here. If you have to come, be ready to spend the whole day here.

Absolutely blown away by the experience that I had. I was there for 11 hours… 11 hours. There were times that the waiting room was full and times it wasn’t as full- either way I waited. I myself am in the medical field and completely understand that er’s have waits- it’s inevitable. But an almost 12 hour wait is completely exaggerated. It’s a shame because the doctors and residents here are one of a kind and very patient and extremely knowledgeable. Sadly the way this place is managed with no type of patient flow brings it all the way down in my experience as a patient. Please, if you can, go to any normal ER and save your time.

First let me say the Black women on both day and night shifts behind the check-in counters were completely professional. But WILLS EYES, GET IT TOGETHER! From the time I arrived at the ER at 6:30 pm, I witnessed people waiting to be seen for 10 hours, 11 hours and 13 hours! A patient witnessed at 2 am, a rat running across the first floor in front of the vending machine, and immediately discharged himself. After 11 hours, I was finally received in the back, were there was only one attending doctor, Dr Hannah Garrigan who managed to be gracious and professional, even at 5 in the morning. She apologized for the wait and with her gracious team of RNs, had me in and out in no time. But ONE ATTENDING DOCTOR!?! Wills, your medical expertise presides you. PLEASE RAISE YOUR STANDARDS OF patient EMERGENCY CARE to match the same level of your A+ Global Medical Reputation.

I have never left a review before on Google but feel the need to do so. Wills Eye ER is inhumane. We have been waiting for 7 plus hours. We arrived at 7pm and I am still here at 230am. I am in pain from an infection in my cornea that my ophthalmologist said could lead to blindness if left untreated. Why is this ER so understaffed? I thought they were the best eye treatment in Philadelphia. Disappointment does not begin to explain my frustration.

Horrible place! Absolutely horrific! My husband was sent here by ambulance from Hershey, and we didn’t even know where to enter the building. Hershey had called ahead, but everyone seemed surprised to see him. Hershey did not want him to walk due to pressure in his eye, but this place had him walking all over. After doing a quick wellness check, we were put into an exam room. The doctor, Dr. Wong, came in after about an hour to check his eyes. She put three rounds of drops in both eyes. They stung, but she didn’t care. He wanted to take a minute between drops like Hershey had done, but she was in too big of a hurry. She then shined a light in his eye, yelling at him for not being able to keep it open and move it around for 10 minutes on end. After she left, we waited probably three hours in a freezing cold exam room. His vision kept getting worse. I decided to call Lancaster Retina Specialists, as Hershey had previously talked with them so they were aware of the situation. They told us he needed surgery that day, and they could get him in that afternoon for surgery. After another hour of waiting, we told the nurse we needed to speak with the doctor. It took a long time for her to come around, and once she did she was very hasty. I asked if surgery was scheduled, and she said no it was not any big deal. They wanted to admit him to the hospital, then have a team of doctors reevaluate him to decide when surgery may begin. I told her this was not going to work and we were leaving. She was astonished. I told her we needed our records and we were leaving. She kept trying to tell us to stay, by pointing out they were #6 in the country. I told her it wasn’t happening. We waited another 45 minutes for our records and went to Lancaster. We were welcomed into this office by the kindest people and were treated immediately with the utmost care. I would not recommend Wells unorganized chaos box to anyone.

Do everything in your power to avoid this ER unless you’re ready for a 5 hour wait. The way they triage patients is horrible - dilating their eyes and then making them wait 2 hours in the waiting room before seeing a doctor. They make you sit in this cramped, incredibly bright waiting room. No concern for patient comfort at all. The front desk staff is on their phones the entire time, can’t give you any information and couldn’t care less. You’re better off going to a regular ER with an on-call specialist than here.

I have no complaints, people are too demanding thinking that they're more important than everyone else so they can play about being in a waiting room for several hours all I can say is welcome to the real world. I am very thankful to be being seen Bibles eye center and it does give me hope that my mission will be restored work close to how it was if not better. Everyone there is doing a excellent job and I can hardly wait for my checkup to see if anything can be improved.

There are not enough kind words to express how I feel about all the nurses and doctors in the eye emergency room. I brought my mom after she had an unexpected issue and almost lost her eye. After reading the reviews I was very hesitant but to my surprise ALL of the nurses and doctors went above and beyond to make her feel comfortable. Everyone actually took their time to look at her issue, when they needed a second opinion they would bring someone else to confirm and they documented everything better than any other hospital or clinic that I have ever been to. The procedure that my mother had to go through was not easy but they were as gentle as possible with her and most importantly, she felt safe and welcome. At the cornia clinic across the street, they went above and beyond in following up with the treatment that they applied on my mom. They made sure she was healing properly and explained the entire process so that we felt confident and in control. They made us feel very happy and made a negative situation into one where we can tell people that although things were bad, they helped us see a brighter day. Thank you to everyone that is working so much, considering everything that we are going through with the pandemic. Thank you for working the long hours and for always being compassionate. Thank you for treating my mother as if she was your family. If I can point out an improvement, I would have to say that the receptionists simply need to be a bit more friendly and perhaps a bit more helpful. I noticed that they were a bit snappy and short with some patients and we'll, I'm sure the patients are already are having a hard time and making them feel like they are bothering you is simply sad. I understand your job may be tough but even the doctors were answering some clerical questions better than the receptionists and that shouldn't be their job.

My former ophthalmologist had advised me to go to an emergency room immediately if I ever were to have lightning strikes in my eyes. I had them in 2022 and went to WillsEye. I was there about 5 hours. Staff were the most competent you could possibly have. They did a thorough job of making sure my retina was not detached, but if it had been, they would have immediately sent me to surgery. They were very busy! But they kept moving along continuously. Yes, everything was time consuming but if you have an eye problem, I would strongly recommend going to this emergency room. There is an underground parking garage under the hospital across the street - it is hard to see because it’s under the building but you can access it from Walnut Street. Preventing blindness is really important-lighting flashes CAN mean blindness if the retina is impacted (mine wasn’t) but please have your eye(s) checked if you experience lighting flashes or a curtain coming down over your eye. Again, I would recommend WillsEye.

If I could give zero stars, I would. My father went to the Wills Eye ER on Friday after being told by his eye doctor to head down there ASAP to get an MRI due to him seeing double. In total, he spent 18 hours in this ER and left without any answers. He arrived with my brother at 1:00pm on Friday. By 10:00pm Friday, he still had not been taken back for an MRI. I arrived to relieve my brother around 10:30pm. After my father watched multiple people who arrived after him be taken back for their MRIs and results, he was finally taken back at 1:12am on Saturday, 12 hours after he arrived. He came back from his MRI at 2:26am Saturday. By 6am Saturday we were still waiting in the ER to be seen by the doctor to be told the results. My father asked at the counter a few times if they had forgotten about him and if he could get his IV line removed as he was uncomfortable. We were told that the doctor wanted to see him and that’s why we were waiting. At 6:30am Saturday a male nurse finally took us back and asked us how we were doing. We responded that we were exhausted to which he said “That makes 7 of us” referring to the other staff on hand. This nonchalance completely invalidated my father and I’s frustration and exhaustion from being in a dirty and uncomfortable waiting room for hours without sleep. We did not choose a career as an ER professional, so we did not appreciate this nurse lumping in his chosen tiredness with our forced tiredness. After a few minutes, Dr. Penny finally came back to see us but never bothered to enter the room; She just lingered in the doorway. She again confirmed that there were no final results for his MRI and that we’ve waited this long, what’s waiting a little longer? To which we both replied that we haven’t slept in 24 hours now and my father has two animals at home that needed to be taken care of. She condescendingly replied to my father telling him that he is an adult and can make his own decisions, but if he leaves against medical advice, he will not receive the results of his MRI. She also mentioned that she wanted to make sure that my father didn’t have something serious going on like a stroke, which after 18 hours of waiting in a waiting room, I believe he would’ve already been irreparably affected as he was not tended to as if his situation was even slightly a true medical emergency. We were given less than 2 minutes to discuss our options when she cut off my father and I’s conversation and said that she needed a decision as she was inching herself even further out of the doorway that she was standing in. I fully believe my father’s complete lack of timely care was a result of his lack of insurance as we watched other individuals get tended to much more quickly and treated with much more compassion. Overall, I am appalled by this facility’s approach to patient care and disgusted by the state of the facilities. They were dirty, staff were unfriendly and unhelpful (I asked for my $42 parking to be validated and was told the person wasn’t there so they couldn’t do anything), and the ER waiting room in general is wildly uncomfortable for anything more than an hour or two stay let alone 18 hours. The only saving grace was the nurse, Natalie, who my father said was very nice during his otherwise atrocious care.

Went there with my husband at 2:30 on a Saturday afternoon. He had a foreign object in his eye that was in too deep to get out by himself, and his ophthalmologist's office would be closed for a few days. The triage nurse saw him after a couple of hours, only to send him back to the lobby. The nurse who takes insurance info saw him after another hour or so, only to send him back to the lobby. No one could ever say how much longer a wait it would be, because if people come in who they deem to be in more urgent condition, they just keep putting you in the back of the line indefinitely. However, the whole time we were there, no one came in who appeared in pain or visibly injured. Meanwhile, the cafe is closed in the evening, so if you're there for many hours all you can get to eat is some expensive snacks out of the vending machine. The doctor finally saw my husband at 9pm. It took under 5 minutes to take the object out of the eye. We were told to go back to the lobby to wait for the paperwork. A half hour later, they called us in for the paperwork. They gave a paper prescription for an antibiotic, rather than calling it in electronically (saying that we can then go to any pharmacy), even though the insurance nurse had specifically asked for our pharmacy's name & location. We finally got out of this hell-hole at 9:30pm, for a total wait-time of 7 hours. Cost of parking: $42

Woke up with eye blisters and pain . Was sent to the Wills ER. The front desk young woman was not friendly at all. She almost seemed bothered to have to sign me in. She would rather be talking to her co worker or busy on her phone. Triage nurse was super kind to me as was the first resident female doctor that saw me. She looked at my eye in triage and told me what I had right away. I was then told to sit out in the lobby and wait. After a long wait a male resident doctor called me in. He did an eye exam on me and was annoyed when I asked him if it was the same thing the female doctor had told me. He stated he didn’t agree with her but he wasn’t sure and had a cornea resident doctor specialist look at my eye. That doctor decided it was something else and popped all the blisters growing on the bottom of my eye. It was beyond painful. He told me he would prescribe an oral antibiotic and an ointment. At discharge this rude nurse comes in, sticks a paper in my face to sign to discharge me. I ask her about the meds and she stops the doctor that saw me to ask. He tells me that he isn’t comfortable giving me new meds since I have many health issues and sends me on my way. I read the discharge papers and the diagnosis they put on there is not what I actually had. One hour later the blisters he popped grew bigger and more came out. I was in severe eye pain. Had to call my ophthalmologist and thankfully he called in the medicine I needed. I will never go back to this place. Also the parking garage for the building was closed. We had to park in the other Jefferson parking lot. It cost us 35 dollars for parking after being there 5 hours. Terrible and awful experience!

Waiting room was dirty, had empty soda bottles, dirt and tissues on the floor. Restroom was filthy. Receptionist and security staff are rude. Waited 6 hours and still wasn't seen. I was told there were 3 other people ahead of me. I couldn't wait any longer due to childcare issues, so I left despite needing evaluation for a detached retina. Another person in the waiting room had been there for 14 HOURS and was STILL there when I walked out. I've been in healthcare for 16 years and this is completely unacceptable patient care. Leadership needs to expand or relocate the ER and staff it appropriately. They know they are the only ER for eye issues around here, so I don't understand why they aren't doing more to meet the needs of the community.

After about a week of horrible pain and being in and out of appointments with my ophthalmologist, I was finally advised to go to Wills Eye. I got there at 10:30 am. I was out, home, and feeling so much better by 1:30. It is an ER so waits should be expected especially if they’re busy. But everyone was so kind, helpful, and knowledgeable. Within a day of the treatment they put me on my eye felt so much better. I wish I would’ve went here first.

Just terrible. Waiting room feels like it’s 90 degrees, wait times are wild, front office staff unprofessional. Not worth it. If you can go to general ER just go. This is the worst experience I’ve had medically. There are so many one star reviews spanning years. They need to really find solutions ASAP. 100% would not recommend.

It's 4:00 Pm and the lobby is crowded and there's nowhere to sit. People here have been sitting since 10 AM. Nurses apologizing but hones that this is the norm. Plan on 8+12 hours at a minimum of you come here.

I've been sitting in the wait room to be seen in the emergency department for over five hours now and all the desk person keeps telling me is I'm still in the grey area, waiting for a doctor to take my file. I've been having severe pain in my eyes for a while now and came here to get help. It does not make any sense to make people wait this long. It doesn't seem like anyone here really cares about the patients.

I’ve never left a google review before but felt the need to acknowledge how great of an experience I had. I was encouraged from my PCP to go to Wills Eye ER after two weeks of blurred vision and black spots. I saw a local ophthalmologist who diagnosed me with a pretty severe issue that I didn’t feel comfortable with accepting. My PCP said Wills Eye is the best and to head there. Wow. I am so thankful that two different doctors at Wills Eye confirmed the original ophthalmologist misdiagnosed me. Not only that, the staff was so supportive, helpful, FRIENDLY, and informative. Nurses were great, receptionists were warm and welcoming, and doctors were insightful and patient. Was I in and out of there in 2 hours? No. But they were great with trying to get me in and out of there even with requiring an MRI. I would take actual answers to an issue than a quick discharge anytime. Thanks again to this team of people!

So gle worst experience I have had with a doctor. Came in because I was having some blutty vision in my eye. Was hoping to have a doctor look at it and make sure there wasn't something more serious. After waiting in the exam room for over an hour. The very rude nurse came and finally administered the drops then sent me back out to the aggressively bright waiting room with my eyes fully dilated. It feels like the wall across from me is being scorched into the back of my eyes permanently. At this point I probably would have rathered just buying an eye patch for a day or two. I feel like I am being attacked both physically and mentally by their practice. I wouldn't even recommend this to my least favorite person.

There waiting room is so unethical and inhumane. It's sad that they don't care about people waiting from 12 noon until 7pm not even considering if people have the mean to purchase food or not. The lack of consideration for the human need for food, drink and movement as well as immediate medical care is so insensitive and insane. What is wrong with this place. This is a disgrace and it's all because of the need for an MRI. The suffering on top of suffering.

The doctor was lovely when we finally saw her but the wait times are ridiculous at this hospital!! I took my mother there at 6pm for a cornea infection. Her eye dr told her she had to go there as it was the only place for emergency treatment. Upon checking in, I overheard another patient asking the staff for an update as they had already been waiting for THREE hours. No reasonable explanation given. My elderly mother waited uncomfortably for FOUR hours before getting seen. But it didn’t end there! The wait continued in the back. We did not end up leaving the ER until 12:30AM. 6.5 hours and my mom still needs to go back to see the cornea specialist!!! Why is it an EYE EMERGENCY ROOM without a CORNEA SPECIALIST? Just go to a regular ER. The doctor was excellent but not worth the frustration. Steer clear.

i went there after metal flung out a mower and hit me in the eye.. i didn't have insurance and was treated like a second rate patient. rather than cte scanning me to see if there was still metal in my eye (because they only make money off it if you're insured) they instead sent me home with eye drops and said I'd be better in a week. two weeks went by and i became completely blind. i had metal in my eye the whole time. it caused a detached retina and a cataract and i had to have 2 major surgeries. after about 8 months of hell, i am now blind in one eye due to their negligence. I'm embarrassed to share a name with this place, they should be shut down.

The staff at the ER are wonderful. It's an emergency room so I knew we would be a while but they really took care of my mom. Ellie in triage, Dr. Penny, and the ladies at the front desk (whose names I cannot remember) are wonderful. I cannot say enough about them. Bring your charger and/or a book to pass the time. The care they provide is amazing. The only negative is the cost of parking. There is no reason to charge 42 dollars for parking. It's a bit much. That is a building issue, not a hospital issue.

Took someone in who had suffered an eye injury with bleeding in the eye. They called him back after 2 hours and dilated his pupils then sent him out to wait for that to work but we waited FIVE MORE HOURS. The pupil dilation had worn off. They dilated them AGAIN! Then they did the exam and we waited almost 2 more hours for a prescription!!! The place is poorly ran. No time management whatsoever and very little regard for their patients in that regard. Do yourself a favor and find a better eye hospital and use this as a last resort.

I had a great experience at the emergency room. I was referred to Wills because of optic nerve swelling. I was super emotional and nervous and all of the nurses, doctors, and even the med students were so kind and gentle with me. They went out of their way to make me comfortable and give me a snack since I hadn’t eaten all day. Gabriella was a particularly thoughtful nurse. Thanks so much!

I was in around 9 am, was seen pretty quickly and around 11 it was time to discharge. That’s where it all fell apart. The only thing prescribed was a medicine I have been on daily for two months with no improvement, which they seemed to not write down when I went through all of the things I tried for my eye. When I pointed this out and said I need something else because clearly this isn’t working for me, my eye has gotten drastically worse in just the last few hours necessitating the trip here, they said I’d need to go back to the waiting room and the doctor would come out in about a half hour. Well, over an hour later of standing I heard my name and went back to really get nothing. I was told i could try this other thing but it’s expensive. And then I left. Waited over an hour for a 5 minute conversation that wouldn’t have been necessary if my meds were taken note of. That said, as much as I felt this was a colossal waste of time and money, the doctors and nurses are very kind, and very clearly working in a super tiny space with limited resources but a TON of patients. I don’t plan on going back, but just my advice (if you can plan your eye emergencies for whatever reason), go early and be thorough. It was much quieter when I arrived at 9 than it was when I left at 1 pm. I happened to hurt my eye in the morning. If you hurt your eye around lunch, best of luck.

I was incredibly reluctant to go here after reading the reviews. All of my worries were unfounded. I was in, seen, treated, and discharged in less than an hour. All of the staff were wonderful, polite, considerate, treated me with compassion and respect. The follow-up support provided was excellent. If you have an eye emergency, don't hesitate to visit and receive treatment.

Was told by several specialists doctors for years, I was going blind live with it. UNTIL A RETIRED SPECIALISTS in department store said I can't help you, but these two specialists at WILL'S EYE can. With correct and GREAT care. In short, I love reading 📚 again, seeing 👀 love one, watching my grandchildren play . KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK👍👍👍👍👍 🧐 ER WAIT TIME 😭

Unlike the experiences recounted in most of the Google review of Wills Eye Emergency Room, my experience today was incredibly efficient, professional and helpful. I was seen within 15 minutes of checking in and was promptly evaluated, dilated and examined. A very thorough explanation of diagnosis and treatment, followed by a fairly quick checkout process. All the personnel I encountered were friendly and professional. While I am sure that others have had different experiences, I myself happily had a five star one.

I read all the reviews and they were discouraging me from coming here. I was in such chronic pain that I decided to go anyway. I have bullous keratapathy in which flare ups occur often. Its severe eye pain that feels like pins are stabbing you in you eye along with severe edema. It took a while to be seen for triage but once I seen triage I was in and out! Two in half hours tops. I wanna thanks the nurse Rita she was so sympathetic and made sure I was alright. Gave me relief for my pain immediately. Got my scripts for antibiotics and edema ointment. I have no complaints whatsoever!

This review needs to be seen! The Worst! Rudely treated from start to finish! Arrival w/severe right Eye pain! (Triage-4pm?) I was told your 'right-eye' has severe infection...Your left eye has a serious neurological problem(optic neuritis-I have MS)...8 hrs. after waiting/missing 2 doses of prescribed medicine-eye drops !(told 'Do NOT! take') ...I was 'Rudely!' told sit down & shut-up!...If you leave we will 'bill!' you!!! Not your insurance!...Finally around mid-night I am seen. 'Young!' Eye Dr! after exam tells me 'Me!'...You have a serious eye disorder in both eyes!...You could die! & if You don't have 3 scans done! You could be in serious peril!...My response!...You knew this 10 hrs ago! & left me waiting literally on the floor of the waiting room!...The 'Nurse!' while being treated at midnight should have her 'medical license!' revoked!...she was condescending!/vulgar!/rude! I am considering calling the 'Pa Dept. of Health!' to have her investigated for miss-treatment of an elderly male man!...Laughing at my Blood pressure results because 'Wills Eye' Thought it was kind of a game(sport) to make folks 'in-pain' wait & laugh at blood pressure results!

If you can avoid it please DO NOT come here. I was going to sleep and felt a sharp pain in my eye and this was my only choice at midnight. I checked in and they charged my copay. Only then did they tell me it could be a 6 hour wait. I cannot blink and no one here cares if someone is in pain (there's many others waiting and no one got called back in over an hour). At this rate I could have just gone to my eye doctor in the morning and not get charged a ridiculous hospital copay. This place is a SCAM. Beware!!!

Staff was amazing, so friendly and very informative. We didn't have to wait long. The hospital was immaculate very good procedure for the Covid virus. Going to the hospital is never a great experience but the staff at Jefferson definitely makes it a little more comfortable. AMAZING JOB JEFFERSON PHILADELPHIA!!!! I wanted to add that even making the follow-up appointment for the ER visit the nurse that answered the phone was so friendly, amazing, very knowledgeable great personality all around every part of our visit to this hospital was a pleasurable experience other than the reason we were there

was told 2-8 hour wait time. patients waiting in the room were there for over 5 hours with still being in pain. better off going to urgent care or an actual emergency room. or bring a sleeping bag, earbuds, and a mask.

My husband came in, and was called in less than ten minutes, we did all paperwork soon, they pulled up my husband’s medical record from his other hospital ( it was impressive), they did several eye’s exams which my husband never had before, they ordered a Ct Scan and blood work, by the way they gave us the Ct Scan results in 20 minutes. Recap we had a very good service and attention, we highly recommend this hospital.

I brought my daughter in for right eye pain at 11pm, we waited 45 minutes before being seen. Once the doctor called her back, her eye was dilated only to return to the waiting room. They called her back for an examination only to send her back to the waiting area to wait for a script for medication. We waited more than an hour for a prescription. Never again!

Excellent care all around by knowledgeable professionals. Waiting room could be updated . The only eye emergency care in over 2 hrs drive. Parking cost is steep though .

The worst! They were unattentive, unprofessional, and too relaxed. The front desk was on her cell phone while the patients watched and waited. Arrived at 6:30p, it is now midnight, and still here, without any clue how much longer. The nurse came out and estimated an hour or more, but truly didn' t know. while my son's was.literally bleeding. You get some progress only when you complained. Horrible! Not again.

Do not go to this place. It is the most ghetto and terrible ER I have ever been to. I was there for 4 hours and never saw a doctor so I left. They dilated my eyes 20 mins after I arrived and then I never saw another person. When I inquired about the wait, they said I was “next”. Someone who came after me, left before me. I reported 7/10 pain but was left in a wait room for 4 hours. Try your luck at a regular ER before you visit this dump.

Did our visit take 7.5 hours from start to finish, causing me to get home at 4:00 AM? Yes. But am I pleased with the quality of care I received and confident that they correctly diagnosed me and put me on new medication that will help my condition? Also, yes. Overall, I am grateful that this place exists so I could be seen on the same night that my issue was identified (optic nerve swelling on both sides, identified by my ophthalmologist), get an MRI and have it interpreted, and walk out with a prescription and a referral to the neuro-ophthalmology department for follow up. Dr. Brettin was particularly helpful and compassionate. If you find yourself experiencing an eye emergency, I wouldn't hesitate to come here.

Staff and doctors are top notch best in field. Facilities are third world. Visit required ultra sound and MRI which required over a 6 hour process. There are no rooms or waiting areas other than the uncomfortable waiting room chairs. We were ushered out of the exam room to go sit in the general waiting area.

Doctor knew I had expensive insurance, said he "just wanted his supervisor to take a look". Hit with an additional $225 charge on top of much larger bill for the "encounter" with his supervisor. Be wary. Intake nurse glanced at my eye without any optics and said everything looked fine, completely dismissive and disbelieving of my concerns over my serious symptoms. Gave me 7 day prescription for a vision-threatening condition and told me to make an appt at their clinic. Clinic couldn't find time for me and never contacted me back when they said that would. Ran out of meds before I could be seen by a different clinic. Wills Eye ER was completely unhelpful in extending my script by a few days and quite condescending over the phone (note, my current doctor has me on a several month supply as it has virtually zero side effects and is a common medication).

Triage Nurse wouldn't allow me to come into the initial screening when I am patient’s representative. After they got some information they dilated my family member only to be sitting here 3.5 hrs and still not being called. What was the point when the drops wore? Poorly managed with the amount of people waiting here and not enough doctoral staff to accommodate the need. Very unprofessional

If I could give a 0 I would. Waited over 6 hours with my husband who has metal fragments sticking out of his eye. Still hadn’t been seen. There was a man there since noon still waiting to be seen and I’m typing this at 1:20am. Staff was rude and short with anyone asking questions about when they would be seen as people had been there for over 12 hours. While I could see the nurses station when the door open and they are scrolling Netflix. Absolutely absurd. Hopefully I can find a hospital that has competent staff members as to what an emergency is and how to run an emergency room properly. You’d be better off trying to take your own eye out with a rusty spoon than to get any kind of help from Wills Eye.

Everything about this place is awful! So far we’ve been here for 7 hours and counting! My poor mother cannot see out of her left eye and they don’t even care! We have seen shift changes and there is no sense of urgency! This is supposed to be for an EMERGENCY! Awful all the way around! Too bad I can’t give a zero rating! 👎👎👎

Yes, waiting time is long. Yes, I got a diagnosis I would rather not have gotten. BUT they saved my vision in my right eye and started the treatment I needed. I am thankful every day for the doctors here

My husband had metal embedded in his cornea. The wait was long, as expected, but the nurse and doctor were so professional and performed with exceptional care. Great work Dr.Dmitriev!

Now wills eye is awesome but there ER does not deserve even one star. My daughter waited for over 5 hrs plus with red eyes throbbing pain headache as well blurred vision and they said thats not serious ok like wow they also charge you a copay before they see you why would you pay for service that wasn’t provided to you. What a waste of time and Er. AS WELL THE STAFF WAS VERY RUDE

I was there all day but got a very thorough examination of my eye issue. The staff treated me like I was the only person there and tried to update me often. Wills emergency is top tier.

By far the worst, I had to take my husband there for a real bad injury to the eye….. eye is bleeding nose all the above and no one not one person came to see if he was ok let’s keep in mind that another doctor had call 20 minutes prior to us getting there ok and still nothing when we got to wills eye… people are rude from the charge nurse to the lady at the front desk smh I will not be taking him back they need all new people that really care and not people that just in it for the money……. Names will be coming

Truly can’t say enough about the amazing care I received at Wills Eye. We are so fortunate to have this specialized care in our city. Hoping I won’t have to go back anytime soon, but if I do, I know I’ll be in good hands.

My son was just seen there for crazy glue in his eye. He was terrified! But everyone from security & the receptionist to the Dr's & RN's were all really reassuring him he was going to be just fine & he is! We were in & out in a little over an hour.

The hospital emergency care area was unclean, restroom did not have and hand drying material. Also, the service was very slow and while sitting for over 2 hours waiting there wasn't even a vending machine or anywhere to get some nourishment without going outside the building.

Definitely some of the best care I’ve ever received in my life! All the doctors and nurses are so caring and very knowledgeable. One of the best eye centers I’ve ever been to in my life! Would definitely recommend… looking forward to receiving care from here in the future!

The Wills Eye Emergency Room is understaffed. Prepare for a 6+ hour wait. I wouldn’t recommend coming here unless you have a catastrophic vision event like loss of vision, etc. I will admit that the limited staff is capable but cannot keep up with the ER patient demand.

  • 2/5 Carol H. 7 months ago on Google
Well- They exist. That’s the two stars. ABANDON HOPE ALL YE WHO ENTER HERE. And my eye HURTS. It’s a torture of a wait - been here 3 hours (5:30-8:45) and the lady a few seats down has been here since 3:30. HOW they can be okay with this “performance” level is beyond me. There is no effort, it is lackadaisical at best. I have been checked in and “triaged”. Nurse: “It’ll be a while; it’s Friday night”. I get the sense from other reviews that it doesn’t matter WHAT day it is. Bathrooms are awful.

8 hours we just spent in this waiting room. All twisted up and sore right now from sitting so long. Worst emergency room I've ever been in. 45 bucks to park for that long too. Terrible place. There were people there much older than me waiting just as long, I felt bad for them. Not a healthy thing to sit for 8 hours but that's what you'll do here.

THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT THOSE WHO HAVE GLAUCOMA OR ANY EYE DISEASE THAT CAN CAUSE BLINDNESS, which is also an EMERGENCY! I went for blurry vision in the side of both eyes. They wrote down the wrong notes saying I only had it for 2 hours and claimed I have a migraine. They repeated what I told them but I found out later they wrote the opposite text in my notes. Followed up with an ophthalmologist at wills eye because I felt rushed and neglected at the ER. A few days later I saw a glaucoma specialist and they told me it was NOT a migraine. IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR VISION DO NOT GO HERE! I don’t feel like going through it but I have a few cases even with administration that could be a lawsuit.

This is the FIRST review I have EVER written, but felt SO strongly about this I felt I had no choice. I have used Will’s Eye for years. Brought my mother here for treatment of eye cancer, can NOT speak more highly of the Shield’s and their office staff. Brought my son here with metal in his eye. Arrived 6:00 p.m. Triage right away, called back maybe 20 minutes later. They dilated the eyes. (Dilation takes approx 20-30 minutes). 5 & 1/2 hours later sitting in waiting room, after 2 requests as to how much longer of a wait I was told they were waiting for his eyes to dilate. My son was furious and told them it does not take 5 hours for eyes to dilate. If he was not seen by midnight he was leaving and not paying the bill. Lo and behold, 10 minutes later (11:45) he was called back with 3 other patients. He came out within 5 minutes. The dilation had dislodged the metal and it was gone. Given an rx for ointment and real tears. 10 minutes later they came out to do discharge paperwork. I understand that when you go into an emergency room there is an expectation of waiting for treatment. I also understand priority cases advancing. This was not my first rodeo by any chance… lol. However, this was the worst experience I have ever had. When we arrived there were approx 4 patients waiting. One was crying, complaining of pain and having waited so long, she left without treatment. Maybe 3-4 more people came in while we waited. Nurses were eating at desks, laughing and discussing “job security”. Certainly NOT professional behavior. Having had such wonderful experiences with Will’s Eye Hospital, I was EXTREMELY disappointed with the Will’s Eye Emergency Room. I will personally never use it again, and will encourage all those I know to avoid this facility as well!

Total time from arrival to discharge was just under 3 hours. Care was very good, everyone explained what to expect and were professional. The facility was clean. I was happy with the care. I would revisit this location if needed.

Horrible!!! Sister sat in pain with a cornea abrasion. After being told that she was given drops to dilate the eyes and waited another 3 1/2 hrs still not being seen in pain. We watched the next shift come in and another hour of waiting still nothing for the pain.
