Not fair that nearly all the associated positive reviews are from the old M Bar. This is completely different establishment and if you go there expecting the old place, you'll be seriously disappointed. What was once an incredibly romantic, convivial space lit by just candlelight, amazing wines by the glass and an unparalleled atmosphere has turned into the opposite, effectively a waiting room for the restaurant next door. Unfair they are able to continue to call it by the same name and positive associations with that brand but don't deliver on a product that is even remotely similar.

I was a regular patron for 12 years. The new owners have destroyed the vibe and alienated their best customers. Utterly depressing.

Brilliant little space. Reminiscent of the Parisian cafes in both size and ambiance with some indoor seating and huge windows that open to the street and a few tables outside to just relax and people watch. Probably the best wine HH in Portland. Knowledgeable and kind staff. Great patrons. Try to stop by any time you’re in the area just for a glass.

Lovely wine. A man was harassing male patrons at this bar and no one said or did anything which was upsetting. Please create a safe space for all individuals and your wine bar would be great!

Absolutely wonderful bar. Bartenders know their stuff and can offer you a wine that fits your fancy depending on any mood you're in. Also have beer and a deep sake list if there are other things that tickle your fancy.

Perfect taste of European living right in the heart of the Alphabet District. This hole-in-the-wall is easy to miss, but you shouldn't. Candlelit, cozy, great selection of wines, a few choice beers on tap, and two separate happy hours!! You have to be okay with being close to other people here.... And if you can muster that strength, you'll probably make a friend or two. This is a popular spot for folks in the industry with it's late hours (and late night happy hour), as well as locals with dogs (dogs are welcome in the bar as well as on the patio!) The bartenders are knowledgeable, winethusiastic and friendly, which helps to warm this gem of a nook into the perfect date spot. When you're feeling nostalgic for the Paris of Fitzgerald and Hemingway, stroll down NW 21st and grab some wine at M Bar. (located between Kim Jong Smokehouse & Trader Joe's' loading docks)

I stopped into this place while I was waiting for traffic to lighten up on my way north through the city. I was just thinking about how the letter M and there was this bar. It’s a tiny spot right on 21st. Cozy and packed with charm. Todd was just opening up and we had a lovely chat about wines, podcasting, and the neighborhood. Soon the local regulars starting trickling in and it was delightful to immediately feel part of the M bar scene. Thank you for your hospitality and I really enjoyed the eclectic vibe and wines.

It’s my favorite wine bar. If I ever have my own wine bar, I’d love to make it just like it. It’s small, dark, lit by candle light only. They have a select but amazing collection of reds, whites, and bubbles, and beer, all amazing. It’s been a while since I’ve been, but can’t wait to go back!

Just visited once today and they ran out of beer, so 3 stars else I'm sure they'll have 5 star. Servers were nice and suggested good drinks. Outdoor seating is nice but they ran out of gas on 31st. I guess better prepare for these spike traffic on special occasions to get really high ratings.

Friendly and fast service with very affordable happy hour prices, and good options for both indoor and outdoor seating. Favorite wine bar in the NW area 👍

It's the smallest bar in Portland! It's also the perfect spot to people watch while you sip on a glass of wine. I meet friends here frequently and we've always a had a great time. It's dog friendly both inside the bar and outside if you have a furry friend. You just need to bring your own snacks if that's what you're looking for.

Great place! Bartender is amazing! Nice place to stop and have one glass or to close down.

It's been a while since I've been before, but we quickly learned it's much different than before with the new ownership. A "wine bar" that didn't have any pinot noir, limited selection, and okay service. Overall, it was underwhelming, and as someone else mentioned, it seems like a waiting room for the restaurant next door. Won't be going out of our way to go back anytime soon.
