I really like the outdoor exercise equipment they have set up here. It’s called the Decatur Memorial Hospital Fitness Station, so I’m guessing it was DMH that paid for this. Unlike at Fairview Park, this fitness station is set up far away from a kids playground. There have often been kids around when I’ve been to the adult workout equipment at Fairview, and while kids are fine, I’d prefer for them to play on the kids’ equipment and let me workout. There’s a huge variety of outdoor equipment. Pull up/chin up bars, parallel bars, and loads of other things. I also like the platforms of varying heights, which I use to do step-ups. The park district here does a pretty good job as far as I can tell.

Fireworks here are great. They also have an amphitheater that was very well priced at 4$ per person to the live music that was playing the evening. Kids had a blast and we all had a great experience.

On contrary to the expectations, the lakeshore adjacent to the park, didn't seem to be active at the time of our visit, on a national holiday! A small walking trail, benches and a Pavilion but mostly covered with ducks and their reliefs! Maintenance could be better ! The memorial for the 9/11 twin tower is very patriotic and commendable. Kudos to the artist! The private boating activities were kind of busy ! The Ambitheater seemed impressive though !

The place has a very good location right on the water of lake Decatur. Easy access parking. Good drink and concession choices. Show was nice and clear not overly obnoxiously loud. Seating was not an issue at all. Overall I hope they continue to grow and pull bigger artists in.

Peaceful place to be. A few people sitting in vehicles enjoying lunch cause it's a little windy out here. I drove around and noticed a few new areas for public use. I'm not over here often, but it's nice to know of the new places when I am or decide to be active😉

If you are in Decatur, Illinois make sure you visit Nelson Park. The view of the Lake is truly beautiful and you can check out the Devon Center while you're there to see what movie is showing next or who will performing there. And you can even take a stroll on the board walk and maybe you will get a chance to eat at the Beach House restaurant. Either way there's much too see.

The amount of duck geese and other feces completely around every walking area is disgusting. All it would take are some statues of snakes to keep this issue at bay. Look it up.

The playground next to Splash cove was very clean, the equipment was in great shape and the ground underneath the play equipment was soft and squishy.

Me and my kids go here almost everyday to give the ducks feed. Its beautiful but there's usually trash and broken glass everywhere and injured ducks and geese that no one will help so its kinda sad.

Have not lived here in 21 years. As part of my vacation going around to all my childhood places. My walk was so peaceful and good to see changes to the park. Amphitheater coming along great.

Nelson Park has def gone thru some changes over the years. Some may enjoy those changes others not so much. Plenty of shoreline for fishing and boat ramps at the marina have been staples for decades. The newly added boat docks are a plus to the community. The Beach House is always a grest place for dinner. If swimming's your thing there's a water park. Also a dog park, excersice area, and the disc golf course that will def challenge your skills. And dont forget a concert at the Devon Amphitheatre.

Nelson Park is great. The City of Decatur has done a great job with this area. The 9 11 memorial is truly a blessing and a fine piece of art work and a true expression of how our community feels about that day.
