I absolutely LOVE this place! I ended up buying the family membership for $99 because my kids have so much fun. I was blown away the first time we came because this museum is not what I would expect in the best way. I expected it to be like any other museum where you just read about the history and see all of the art and collections… NOPE… it’s even better. They have a really cool simulator that you sit in and hear the story about terrible Tuesday while feeling like you are THERE experiencing it. They have a beautiful gallery that shows you photos from very, very long ago! It’s just beautiful. It’s a great place for all of the family because they’ve got things for adults and so much interactive things for children to do. I strongly recommend checking it out, it’s worth it… AND right out front of the museum you get to see a bunch of cute little prairie dogs!

A good stop for an hour or more. Very interesting information about the area and it's history. I also enjoyed an entertaining "tornado" shelter experience. They also have outdoor exhibition with old nice steam engine! Finally, the lawn in front it populated with Prarie Dogs, it's funny to watch them.

A great museum for children of all ages including the child in all adults! So many hands-on activities that help folks learn the history of the Great Plains and it's peoples. I can't wait to come back and bring my grandkids!

We stayed in Lawton for the night and looked up what to do there. I found this museum, so we decided to check it out. I'm glad we did. The staff was wonderful. The museum was very informative. If you have children, there were a lot of fun interactive things for them to do. If you want to get a feel for what it was like as the great plains developed, then you should visit this museum. We only had 2 hours, you probably need to allow at least 4 hours, especially if you have children. We had my 94 year old mom with us, and she enjoyed it and was able to get around just fine.

Really get to know the history, and have great interaction for adults and kids alike! The tornado exhibit is a must! If you miss it just ask for it as you will see what looks like "stuff" piled up but walk behind it and you go into a shelter. Press the button to begin the presentation and HANG ON! There is an entry fee but well worth it.

Large, modern, informative museum. See what it's like to be in a shelter as a tornado hits, explore the largest satellite map I've ever seen! Be sure to read the exhibits, many of them had multiple flip-throughs to read. I only docked one star because many of the outside exhibits were under construction (10/2023). An added bonus was the Prairie Dog colony that surrounded the museum. Hundreds of the little critters would bark their warnings at us if we got too close. They would duck for cover at about 50 feet. Cute!

You'll need at least 2 or 3 hours to do everything inside. There are so many different hands-on and take-home crafts to do. Great for young and old alike. If you're looking for children to be out of the heat and burn off energy, this is a great choice. I took my 2 grandsons age 7 and 9, and they loved it!

I was very impressed with this museum. I guess I expected a dry, old school museum. But my five and seven year olds very much enjoyed the fact that at least every other exhibit had something to make or hands-on do. They equally enjoyed the kids play items upstairs as much as the history stuff downstairs. We were there for 3 1/2 hours and we probably could’ve made it way more than four if we had brought lunch and taken a lunch break.

My husband is in Lawton for work. He only gets one day off a week and this was one of the only places open on a Sunday. It was reasonably priced and we had an afternoon to kill. I am so glad we went. We thought maybe we would be there for an hour. We were there for 3! We have been to museums in 7 states and this one was one of the most interactive and fun. It was an absolute blast and the tornado exhibit was really neat following my favorite, the topographical map! We will definitely be back.

The less travelled path of Oklahoma, a museum for all ages. With an extensive collection of Native American artifacts, each comes with informative description, or at least speculation, you can easily spend hours without realizing. In fact, the museum has acquired a lot of Native American merchandise from a shop that is already out of business. Furthermore, the exhibits related to the sorrow and sufferings of Native Americans due to forceful displacement are touching. Once scattered across the country, but was confined to a "reservation" known as the land of unorganized territory, the homes of Native Americans further shrank after allotment with the surplus open to settlement at the beginning of the 20th century. This is the sad history of Oklahoma. Another aspect worth noting is that there are lots of interactive exhibits for children to enjoy, including a plastic bison from which younger visitors can learn about anatomy, and a mini archeological experience providing a glimpse of what uncovering artifacts is like. My niece didn't want to leave.

Small but impressive museum! The depth of their exhibits is not very great, but they have lots of small exhibits encompassing a broad range of life. Many hands on exhibits that children and adults alike will enjoy. My 1 year old granddaughter was very curious about the buffalo showing it's anatomy. I also found several exhibits to be very interesting. I think my favorite was the steam locomotive! But of course who doesn't like all the prairie dogs in the park adjacent to the museum...

This museum was a delightful surprise to us. We expected a quick walkthrough and didn’t actually plan to stay for as long as we did. Very interesting exhibits with highlighting the local history. A must visit when in Lawton.

I lived here a while without going because I thought a museum would be too grown up for my 6 year old twins and 4 year old, but this is an interactive hands on museum that kids can enjoy too. We got the membership and plan to visit all of the OMN museums in Oklahoma. They even have crafts. There are dinosaurs there currently but I think that exhibit will change. We spent a couple hours and plan to go back every now and then and get the most use out of the membership. Go early if you want to get there before the crowds on weekends.

We take the grandkiddos every year when they are in town visiting. They always enjoy the exhibits new ones and the old ones. We usually spend 3 to 4 hours there when were there. Always a great time!

Lots of fun "hands on" exhibits. Their carnival corner has fun options for kids at no extra charge. Our favorite was trying to pull a table cloth out from under a place setting without anything falling off. Leave your water bottles in the car, as NOTHING can be brought in.

Great history, educational and hands on for children. Will bring kids back next time we go!

The museum is so much fun for my kids who are 7, 4, and 2. We have often enjoyed going as a family over the past 4 years and have held a family membership all those years. The museum provides such a fun, safe, clean environment for my kids to play. It is just big enough to be entertaining, but not too big where you worry you may lose a kid. My only complaint is the limited membership options. We have to have help over the summer to watch our kids and currently there is not a good option to accommodate this within their membership parameters. The only option is to buy an additional entire family pass to allow for our babysitter to take the children. Hopefully the museum will consider updating this and adding an option to add people to your pass for an additional fee. This would also be useful for those who have grandparents who may wish to take their children since the current family pass only allows for 2 adults without an option to add more. It is just a fun activity for the kids to enjoy with a babysitter or other care provider when parents have to be at work.

Many interactive exhibits, but many were broken or in need of maintenance. Outside was under construction, so limited. Not crowded.

This museum is incredible! It's extremely interactive with interesting things for all ages. My 1 year old loves the sand at the excavation exhibit. My 3 year old will play in the play grocery store for hours, and upstairs they have a whole slew of kids play stuff. They have other activities such as a leather working room and print press that would be more fun for the older kiddos. The exhibits are informative and interesting enough that I am also not bored and can enjoy walking around alone learning as well. The staff is always wonderful and kind! No food or drink allowed though, not even your kiddos water bottle.

It is very amazing. The museum has a lot of interesting facts and artifacts to learn about the region. The greatest part about the museum is the hands on portion. Most of the museum is set this way. People with children can get lost (in a good way) in there for hours. Highly recommend it to everyone.

My partner and I were on date weekend in Lawton and visited this museum as one of our activities. It was a fun museum. There was a really good combination of learning with hands-on activities. I could definitely see a school group of kids having a blast here. I learned a lot of new information. I would recommend anyone going to visit here. You can have fun and hopefully learn something new.

This was a decent museum that offered some interesting facts. They need to fix the leaky roof though so you can see all the exhibits.
