I decided that this was the restaurant that I wanted to try for Mother’s Day. We made reservations the day before. Upon arrival we were seated in a timely manner. The service was friendly. Because it was Mothers Day, they had an abbreviated menu, I was somewhat disappointed, but made due. I didn’t drink or order an appetizer but we enjoyed a Caesar salad & bread. As for the main course, we both agreed our food was bland and lacked taste, due to inadequate seasoning. Although my son paid, I will say that the restaurant was reasonably priced, too bad I didn’t fully enjoy it.

I had a wonderful birthday dinner at Il Gabbiano and was able to snap a few pictures before it filled up with guests! This is a hidden gem, and a real favorite. The staff is super attentive, the food is outstanding, and the atmosphere is warm and friendly! BYOB too! I highly recommend!

We had a very delicious dinner here. As the previous reviews stated, the wait staff was amazing. They were not too pushy, and very friendly and very attentive. “Katrina”, our waitress, exemplified that. We’ve been here about 20 times before over the last 12 years and we’ll return again. I was pleasantly surprised to see the seafood linguine was full of fresh seafood- actually more seafood than pasta! The chicken piccata was also very good. And BYOB is always nice.

Updated Review based on the business’ response. Disclaimer: My review is my opinion based on my experience (not of those in my group.) Food: Did not eat the salad that was given. Appetizer, Meatball Ricotta, I did not believe the three meatballs in sauce with some dollops of ricotta were quite worth the value for cost. Not seasoned to my taste and nothing special. Entree: attempted to get the Tortellini Alfredo and Cajun Shrimp but they were out of tortellini. Opted to try the Mama Mia Pasta. It was not seasoned to my taste either. The shrimp, noodles, and oil made it very wet and was a really strange combination. Service: was decent given the place was very busy, we had the unfortunate accident with one of the glasses knocked over by a server and shattered on our table/belongings. Very friendly. Atmosphere: very busy on a Friday night, very loud in a crowded small area. Not the atmosphere to my personal liking in a dining experience. We were squeezed in and that was noticed due to having servers/other guests trying to squeeze by. I did not particularly enjoy the food or loud atmosphere, the servers and staff were nice. Original Review: Server took away the salad before we were finished and ended up knocking over and shattering a glass onto us. When we went they were out of a certain type of pasta and we were informed after we had given the server our order. Business response: I'm answering this review half an hour after yours so i won't forget any details we do it every night. It is very obvious that you are coming from a bad day, your table was the only table where the three waiters on duty attended, including me, came up to apologize for not having the pasta and you were the only person who was looking to the side or towards the table, your family members were very courteous and said that everything was very good with the smile and without mentioning any problems. You finished the appetizers and finished the entire meal nothing left on the plate. As you could see, the room was completely full when you arrived, and we made space for your table. It would be nice when making a review give your opinion in general of the good and the bad of the place.

We went to dinner there many times and had a great experience, but most recently we went for Mother's Day weekend, which you know is crazy busy. They tended to our table and made sure we had water, bread, salad, etc. On time, and even catered to one of my "change of menu" requests perfectly. I was so satisfied I wanted to cry. They are truly a gem in the area. Btw I was craving vodka sauce and Veal, but it wasn't on the menu so I asked if they could do it and they said 'no problem'

Such a nice place to have a delicious dinner! I got a chicken parmesan with linguini pasta and it was so good! The service was good…our servers were really attentive. They are BYOB, bring your wine 🍷

Great luncheon for 30 drag racers on Sunday afternoon. The staff went out of their way to accomodate our needs. The food, of course was excellent. We will definitely see you again!!!!

Thank you for making our daughter's graduation dinner special! From the food to the staff everything was wonderful! The special dessert at the end was very sweet. We will be back for sure!

IL Gabbiano is seriously good Italian. I highly highly recommend coming here for some of the best food in Cranford! We had the broccoli rabe to start and for mains we had the snapper with shrimp on a bed of parmesan risotto. It was to die for. You are allowed to being your own wine to the restaurant which we did. The menu has so many Italian classics to choose from! Get here asap for an incredible meal.
