The best Indian food in the state. Seriously, I've had desi food throughout Edison and Iselin and nothing compares to Star of India. Cuisine is 5/5 and appropriate prices to boot. The atmosphere is also such a vibe. Everyone I've ever brought here has loved Star of India and you will too.

Food was delicious and authentic. HOWEVER, my credit card was charged an extra amount of money to add onto an already more-than-fair tip. I am also not the only person that this has happened to if you read prior reviews. Check your credit card statement immediately afterwards or pay with cash.

Small authentic Indian place. Family own, byob and well priced. The Biryanis ate excellent and theTandoori always moist. Good service but very dark. Bring your cellphone or a flashlight! Addendum: two years later, still excellent. We had a delivery, plenty of food and they added few complimentary appetizers to the order.

But that's exactly what happens when you walk inside. Dark, romantic colors and lighting. A lovely place to take a date! But you want to know about the FOOD, right!?! As someone who has had some seriously amazing Indian food in Delhi, Mumbai, and London (let's face it... London has some legendary Indian restaurants), I am positively thrilled to have found this place so close to my home in Jersey! I can't wait to bring more friends to try it! But my hubby and I plan to get dressed up for a romantic night out soon! Maybe this week! I was there last week and all I can think about is what I'm going to try from the menu next! Such wonderful variety and truly excellent flavor! It's a must-taste! Highly recommend. Would give it more stars if I could! Oh! And if you're not feeling like dining in, they offer takeout!!! This place is just an average from an Indian stand point. When we asked for spicy, we could taste the chilly powder. Service was bad. The place has this weird smell the moment you walk-in. FYI: They give yellow rice with an entree. The naan was really good.

Im new to this place, i dont know about restaurants here. i tried different types of dishes at different places. i ordered for 3 biryanis and got pulav which is also worst in pulavs in 5 different states i visited in usa. i would recommend my friends not to visit here for food. more oil, and color seems like tamarind rice served in temple. good bye to this restaurant, this bye dont make any difference but hope you people change quality.

32 dollars worth of food. They ran my card for 42 and change. Called back and asked why the drastic difference from menu price. Lady first said there is a $7 delivery fee. Then a man comes on and says its not a deliveryfee, they automatically add 20% to all orders. None of which is disclosed ANYWHERE! Wow! Then the man begins to bargain and says im sorry let me take it off. What? Check your prices people! What kind of scam this business is running? Overcharge first, then ask later??

They artificially inflate the check whenever they can . Depending on if they believe the customer will check . I was told this by two separate former employees . That the owner would create a different price when certain customers pick up their take out order which included me . The owner also kept the tips I was tipping the staff . The food is ok ..and no other Indian I am aware of in the area .

This place is all about the food! If you want great Indian food that is also really reasonable I highly recommend. We used to go to Hoboken or Edison but this is yum! Service is friendly.

I had an amazing experience at this restaurant. They have some sort of mango drink that is unbelievably great. One of the best drinks I've ever had in my life. The restaurant itself is super clean and very quaint. The staff members are extremely helpful and nice. I would definitely go back if I was in the area.

1. Baingan Bhartha - didn't taste anything like it should. No smokiness, nothing. Sweet tomato puree base is not something that you use for this. Please STOP DOING THIS!!! 2. Tandoori chicken - please stop making this with a sweet sauce lathered over it. 3. Fish pakoda - below average and too salty, yet far better than 1 and 2. 4. Paneer mutter - average. It looks like their intention is to cater to people who either don't know what real Indian food is or cannot handle the taste of real Indian food. If you are not in either of those categories, I strongly advise you to steer clear of this place.

One of the best if not THE best Indian restaurants I’ve ever visited. Loved the ambiance, the lighting was appealing, music was pleasant, food was amazing, reasonably priced and service was excellent. Being of Indian descent, I often times find myself feeling unwell after dining at an Indian restaurant because the food is not very authentic, but this is the first place where I ate more than I even should have and left feeling great. Highly recommend for first timers, or anyone that loves Indian food. My family and I tried several different dishes and they were all perfect. 5/5 stars - highly recommend. We had some left overs we planned to save for tomorrow and couldn’t help but finish them already - that should tell you all you need to know :)

We've been dining here the past couple of years periodically. The food is authentic and really delicious. I haven't had a thing I have not liked. The service is fantastic and the atmosphere makes you feel like your dining in India. It's very dark inside which adds to it. The place was very nicely decorated. The servers were friendly and helpful. The food we ordered was more than enough for the two of us. They also gave us a free naan and papad while we were waiting for the food. I found the kebab a little bit over done but we're delicious though. The Biriyani was not too spicy and we had to pack it since we couldn't finish it. Overall a nice place for quick service and good food.

I have been going there for years. They have the best vegetable Korma anywhere. My family loves the food as well. It has been one our favorite restaurants. The ambiance is not sleek or modern however if that is what you are looking for, just good Northern Indian cuisine.

First off, I have ordered from this restaurant multiple times via Doordash. I decided to go in person. When I arrived the first thing was the smell. It smelled a bit unventilated and smelly. Then I noticed how dark it was. I had to ask if the lights could be made brighter, which they did. I then realized why it was so dark. Everything looked really old and dingy. All of the sculptures looked dusty, and the seating had multiple rips. The cutlery and table decor also looked unclean. I ordered, they kept bringing dishes one by one, taking very long. Naan bread arrived when I was nearly done with my meal. Food was good, but once I went to the bathroom I regretted eating there.The door to the kitchen by the bathroom was sooooo dirty. The walls were filthy. Made me and my husband feel disgusted. This place needs a good cleaning, fresh paint, and ventilation. I don't think I'll eat or order from here. My mom always says cleanliness says a lot about a kitchen and the food.

Got 2 orders of Lamb Vindaloo. Got the “spiciest” and the next spiciest but couldn’t tell which was which as neither were marked and they tasted the same. That aside, the portions were good and the taste was better. The lamb was tender. Definitely recommend and would get again

Food was kind of bland and didn’t taste like Indian food I’ve had before. Honestly tasted like totally different dishes than what we asked for. Both curries also had tons of oil. Garlic naan was soggy and small with no flavor. Only positive was large portion sizes.

Placed an order on Uber eats at 11 AM for noon delivery. Watched the driver show up to pick up the order and then the entire order was canceled. I called the restaurant and they told me they don’t open until 5 PM. Why on earth did they accept the order or not call me and tell me that there was a problem. Now it’s 12:40 and I have no lunch! The person on the phone was not in the least bit polite about it. Will not bother going back.

Shrimp had a very bad taste, sent it back to the manager or whomever it and was given a fresher meal (so i thought). While walking to our car i got a glimpse of the kitchen thru the side and it was DISGUSTING with food on the ground. NEVER AGAIN

Order was wrong. Food was not spicy. Ordered lamb they sent chicken, my garlic naan order had 1 piece of garlic naan with three plain pieces mushed in like we wouldn't know the difference. Raita was sweet and they serve yellow rice???
