Hyacinth is the most lovely host you can ask for. She made us feel very much at home. Food is home made and delicious and the beach is right at your doorstep. Very calm beach with almost nobody and specially not a lot of tourists. Amazing place, amazing host and amazing food. Thank you Hyacinth!

This is not my first review of Ezhara Beach House and I hope not the last. We arrived this time with my friend who visited India at the first time. She did not know Hyacinth but when we arrived at the house late night and Hyacinth showed us around, my friend turned to me saying: "Don't we stay one extra day here?" which I happily accepted as I already knew what to expect here at this beautiful place. I like that this beach and the vibes at Ezhara Beach House has not changed for 15 years since I first spent time here. I really hope that it will remain the same for many decades onwards, intact and natural. The house is not a hotel but similar to a comfortable home. The host prepares for our visit with all necessary things such as drinking water, toilet paper etc. And huuuge home-cooked meals, morning and evening. It is very convenient as the city is around ten kms away. (And that is the best!) Very relaxing to charge our batteries here. I love the laughs of Hyacinth and her honesty. I can ask anything from her and she helpes immediately, let it be the train ticket, purchasing medicine or showcasing the best local restaurant in town. Thank you. :) Hyacinth loves singing and this time we had great fun singing together. I recite the lines from a song which she performed, it describes our experience properly: "And I'll never leave, why should I leave? I'd be a fool 'cause I finally found someone who really cares"

Ezhara Beach House is a truly wonderful place to stay with the best host, Hyacinth. We stayed a few days last year & felt like we had known Hyacinth for a lifetime. We had plans to return later in 2020 but alas not to be. We cannot wait until we can return. Why? Where do we start? So peaceful. So friendly. Wonderful food. Cultural immersion. Hyacinth makes guests feel like they are part of a community as well as introducing them to whatever cultural or local activity they choose. Her welcome, sense of humour, singing and love of life is infectious. We need to bottle it. We are so looking forward to returning once we can travel overseas again. You do need to book in advance (an easy email) as it is a very popular place to stay. We highly recommend a stay for a few days to get the most out of the region. So much fun. We miss you Hyacinth. See you soon πŸ™

I am going to India again in November after one year. Last time I could not meet my former Ezhara Beach House host-cum-friend Hyacinth, because my trip was only for Gujarat. However, she kept contacting me even then on phone and kept an eye on me as I was alone in India. And now I have to thank her again as living in Europe I got stuck with my ticket bookings online. I wrote to her for help and she was so kind that wherever she was at that moment, irrespective of the time difference and her location, she immediately helped me to purchase our train tickets in advance (which may become difficult or impossible upon arrival). She is the same as I got to know her 15 years ago: efficient, correct and straightforward with the tourists which makes planning so much easier. It's very refreshing, I am awaiting to be at Ezhara Beach House again in her company.

Wonderful guesthouse, Beautiful views, Delicious food and the best host. Ezhara Beach House is on Ezhara Beach 12 km from both Kannur & Thalassery. It is an easy train journey from Managaralu or Bangalore in the north or Kochin in the south of Kerala. We lasted visited EBH in March 2020 & vowed to return. We were welcomed with open arms by Hyacinth, the best host of any guesthouse/homestay we stayed in. Hyacinth offers total cultural immersion. This home is a heritage home so it is not like a 5 star hotel but has the feel of a home once you walk in. The rooms are beautifully decorated, comfortable, provided with fans, snacks, copious water & the bathroom is spotless. The meals are divine. Hyacinth ensures you know what you are eating by showing you the veggies prior to cooking explaining the balance in her choice of menu & there is opportunity for pure veg , pescatarian, or non veg. She will ask you your food preferences but will create dishes you will want time and again. Breakfast & Dinner is included in the tarrif with fruit for lunch. You will never go hungry. You will be treated as if this was your home The beach is visible from the guesthouse with easy access. The beach is chilled. The area where EBH is located is in a Muslim Colony. Therefore the area is quite conservative. When swimming at the beach it is important to take into account the local culture & be respectful in your dress once out of the water. This is just respecting local culture and should not detract from swimming in this lovely beach. It is possible to go for long walks along the beach & the sunsets are stunning. There is plenty of opportunity to enjoy Auyrvedic therapies in nearby Kannur. Transport is easily arranged via tuk tuk transport. We had been travelling in India for over 5 weeks when we arrived at EBH, were pretty exhausted & 3 days in we started to recover then 10 days at EBH has been the best medicine. Total relaxation, rebalanced, and recouped. We highly recommend EBH as a home away from home

Although we did not get a chance to stay at Ezhara Beach House due to our dates, Hyacinth's hospitality goes beyond just a place to stay! She was instrumental in planning and executing our family's trip to Kannur. Whether its about finding a place to stay or where to eat or how about to plan your itinerary while in Kannur, she provides great suggestions and is very helpful! I hope we get to visit Kannur soon again and get a chance to stay with her as well.

I am so looking forward to my return visit to Ezhara Beach House. Memories of my last visit linger. The amazing hospitality of Hyacinth can’t be beaten. Hurry up November so I can laze on that beautiful beach, laugh with Hyacinth and eat all that yummy food. Can’t wait!

We stayed at the beach house for almost a week and couldn’t have enough. It’s a simple but wonderful place, an oasis among the palm trees with the sea right at your feet. The house is clean, comfortable, organized with attention to detail (cute little pillows, candles and pretty sarongs at your use) and the terrace has such stunning view you just don’t want to leave. The host, Hiacynth, is so lovely, helpful and caring, she took us out to show us around the area, shops and little businesses of the local community (I especially recommend to have clothes made with the local stitching lady) and finally THE food! The food was soooo delicious, the quantity and quality just perfect. We had all types of fruits and keralan dishes we could have wished for. All in all, an excellent, five star experience, I can’t wait to be back at the Ezhara beach house for another stay!

The best beach stay my family and I have ever had - gorgeous food, a brilliant location on a virtually deserted beach and the unforgettable hospitality of Hyacinth, who anticipated our every need. We had a wonderful Ayurvedic massage in the nearby town, which Hyacinth arranged for us, for example. It’s our third stay and we are already talking about when we can come back. Highly recommended!

A welcoming home by the most amazing, empty beach in Kerala. Hyacinth is the perfect host and the food is out of this world! The balcony is a perfect spot for relaxation. And for watching the amazing sunsets. This is our favourite place in India!

Simply the most amazing place you could possibly visit for a relaxed seaside holiday. Hyacinth is the warmest and kindest host I have ever experienced. Every day, we were served some of the nicest food I have eaten in India β€” extensive banquets with many dishes. My favourite was the waterbuffalo curries, and the grilled prawns. All of the food is made fresh from local ingredients, which you can really taste. The living areas are large and very comfortable to relax during the heat of the middle of the day β€” we stayed upstairs, equipped with many cushions and chairs, shaded from the sun, with a sea view. Cannot recommend more.

Having been to EBH numerous times I can honestly say we are so looking forward to visiting again. As signs of the awful pandemic appear to be receding, thoughts once again return to travel. At the very top of our list is naturally EBH and to see Hyacinth once again. For those of you reading this and whom have not been - shame on you :) You seriously have missed one of the best places in India. But now the secret is again out, hopefully in the coming season, you may have the chance to redeem yourself. EBH is truly one of those special places that once you have tasted its delights ( and I just don't refer to the wonderful food here), you will be stuck with a dilemma. Do you tell everyone you meet how delightful it is, or do you keep this to yourself. Well for me, I think everyone should have the opportunity of being welcomed by Hyacinth into her historic home right on the quiet, peaceful and utterly deserted beach. Plus to enjoy the totally stunning food that is prepared fresh every day in the company of like minded travellers. I could carry on waxing lyrical about EBH and Hyacinth until the cows come home. But let's be honest, the only way to experience it is to go visit. Just don't book the dates we want :)

We are simply waiting to get back to EBH. The pandemic has raken away two precious years from all that was in "to do" list. I at once fell in love with the place and the hostess, Hyacinth 12 years back when I chose EBH to celebrate my daughter's birthday. I can't tell enough how she made the celebrations so special. We are continuously in touch after that and she is more like a family to me now. Her warmth and hospitality is always beyond one expects...you are spoiled with options of authentic cusine...and Hyacinth is always in her sportive spirit. I did visit her a second time again with family and it was absolutely delightful. We caught sea crabs and she made sure to make a dish with that. Anyway...I think I can go on and on...but if you want to have a quiet, peaceful ,comfortable stay.. choose EBH.

Great welcome in a homestay in a traditional Keralan house, right next to the beach. Hyacinth is the β€œ hostess with the mostess”. She is full of ideas of places to go and many tales to tell. Nothing is too much trouble for her. The food there is both plentiful and delicious. We have met so many interesting people eating at the communal table. Having been there 4 times, we can’t wait for travel possibilities to open up so we can go to our home from home on Ezhara Beach again.

I have been to Ezhara Beach House three times before and absolutely love it there. It’s a magical place to relax at the beautiful seaside surrounded by the sound of waves and coconut palms in the wind, enjoy time and the fabulous Keralan cuisine, supported by the ever upbeat and fantastic host Hyacinth. I hope very much that I will be able to return this winter for a break once it's possible to travel to India again.

Was way back in March 2020, I have not actually stayed at EBH, but had the pleasure of meeting with the owner for a short while and experienced her warmth and hospitality as we were a group of locals who went to inquire about rates and facilities. The place was already full with westerners, but despite having a tight schedule she offered us bottled water and snacks. Hope to sometime get to stay there some weekend after the pandemic.

Single male Indian backpacker from Goa. Whilst passing through north kerala I had the immense pleasure of staying a couple days at EBH (EZHARA BEACH HOUSE ). It is a traditional simple heritage home by the beachfront, facing the Arabian sea. I spent calm, peaceful moments there just soaking in the pristine location and delicious food. Was in the process of maintenance there when I went, but one of the finest places that I have experienced during my kerala sojourn.

One of the most important day's in my life, @ezhara beach house... ❀😍 I wisited ezhara beach house early november stayed in one of down stairs rooms of the main heritage home. They were still process of maintenance work of that time. Throughly enjoyed my overall stay. There even if the facilities are basic and simple, i had everything's i needed provided to including hair oil, detergent, insect repellent. The view is absolutely stunning. I went to the town in thallassery, enjoyed the fort and market place. the ezhara beach is great to take walk's go there if you are looking to cut off from your daily routine..

Eagerly awaiting my next trip to see Hyacinth. My last visit, 10 nights, was just prior to the Covid pandemic, and each year since has been spent in anticipation of a return. As promised, I was met at Kannur train station by her very friendly auto rickshaw driver holding up a board with my name so no hassle getting to the property some 20 minutes away. I was overwhelmed by the hospitality I received. A fabulous location behind the palm trees with views of the beach and ocean from my balcony. Very quiet spot where you can idle away the hours and re charge. I had been on a very hectic 2 weeks of touring, places well off the usual tourist map in Odisha and Andhra Pradesh Wide variety of fabulous " home cooked" food, beautifully presented and served on the patio by the friendly staff who also cleaned my room and changed the bedding every other day. After a few days relaxing I asked about local sightseeing and within minutes a full day's trip was organised for me using the same Auto rickshaw driver and at a very reasonable price. With no clean clothing for my onward journey, I handed over a "bagful" at breakfast and it was ready for packing same evening. It's little touches like this that matter. I have travelled extensively throughout India for 20 years experiencing all sorts of fabulous accommodation. Ezhara Beach House is everything I want at a fantastic price, and I would recommend it to anyone. Hyacinth and I have kept up a regular exchange of information via Whats App since my return home.

Absolutely amazing homestay with a unique atmosphere and the best host. Hiacynth is helpful, thoughtful, fun and a great person to be around. We stayed on the first floor - super clean rooms and a magnificent balcony with a seaview. Food is delicious, prepared everyday with local products and respect to guests’ needs. I just wish we could have stayed longer.

Amazing location right on the beach. You can hear the sound of waves from your pillow. Matriarch Hyacinth runs a tight ship and ensures a homely experience with gorgeous and endless food! The house is nothing fancy and could do with some renovations but if you're not bothered by the critters and the cobwebs you can enjoy serene sea views and the finest hospitality Kerala has to offer. I would love to visit again.

Nothing is too much trouble for our host, Hyacinth, who met us at the bus stand and delivered us to the railway station after getting us the tickets. My wife is nearly blind, and without being asked she went out and bought brighter light bulbs for our room. She is also a woman with a great sense of humour who likes a laugh and a natter. If you want a homely experience right on a very quiet beach this is the place for you! If you can't find the phone number it's in the most recent Lonely planet South India.

My sixth visit. That's a good enough recommendation. Love it there. Looking forward to my seventh. Will be even better with the new Kannur airport open.

I wanted to visit Badami and nearby places in karnataka last month so rather than approach a travel agent, i asked Hyacinth and she guided me perfectly. Since I am a solo female traveller her advice for me was the best.

This place grows on you like a magic envelope enfolding you with charm, love and hospitality. Our fellow guests were great company, the food was superb and going to sleep listening to the waves lapping the beach was tranquil. Thank you Hyacinth for making our stay so special.
