One of most spectacular holidays I’ve ever gone on and definitely met most of the expectations we had for an &Beyond experience (we had been to 2 of their lodges in SA). We were there for 2 weeks. The lodge itself is beautiful. The ‘casinhas’ are thatched and the interiors are done in a colonial style. We had our own private pool and a beautiful swinging day bed overlooking the bay which the lodge is located on. The staff were exceptional - they were all extremely attentive, and our butler was so professional and friendly (although I find the concept of a butler a bit outdated and somewhat uncomfortable). The food was great - the chef really put his heart and soul into the food and we were never hungry but never overly stuffed either. We also personally loved how they set up a fire for all the guests to sit around, as this encouraged people to mix - we were able to meet so many different interesting people. This was also an extra special holiday for me as I did my PADI here, so we ended up getting 2/3 dives in and the reefs are still the best I have ever seen internationally. We saw an array of sea life and the reefs are so vibrant and healthy still. We also made use of their chartered fishing which was always so well organized and the skipper always so friendly and professional. The one thing to keep in mind is that basically every activity aside from supping, Island tour, dhow sundowners and the snorkeling (if I recall correctly) was excluded from cost. The only negative part of our whole stay was seeing how polluted a lot of the beach is when you walk up past other lodges (Azura is the other established lodge and I believe another was in the process of being built while we were there). It’s hard not to compare the previous experiences I’ve had at &Beyond in that respect. I’m used to them offering a very high-end, exclusive experience; being surrounded by 2 other lodges kind of took that away. Nevertheless, we had a fantastic time and highly recommend, especially for the diving.

We had a perfect stay with andBeyond at Benguerra Island. Literally everything is just perfect: the room, the decor, the staff, the food, the drinks, the activities, the transfer! We stayed for four nights to cap off a 2.5 week trip around southern Africa and only wished we could have stayed longer. Shout-out in particular to Isaac, Renoir, Sergio and Sarah for making our stay extra special and so so enjoyable!!!

Benguerra is absolutely stunning! My wife and I went to the island for our honeymoon. The trip started with the most scenic and beautiful helicopter ride to the island. Once we touched down, the food, service, and staff were incredible. The castaway picnic was our favorite - you will not be disappointed! First-class resort.

Fabulous - the place is beautiful (right on the beach, spacious, private, rustic African build with all the comforts) and staff very attentive, friendly and meticulous. It's a great place to relax, snorkel, star gaze, sail and enjoy excellent food and just being looked after. Thoroughly recommended. We went on honeymoon after safari, as many others did.

Phenomenal experience - amazing location, amenities, food and staff. Scuba diving was great and our butler was fantastic. Special thank you to Lorenzo our activity planner and dive master, and Abel are butler - both were remarkable (as well as the rest of the staff)

A wonderful beach retreat that epitomizes barefoot luxury. The natural assets on Benguerra Island—the white powder sand beach, the crystal clear warm Indian Ocean waters, and steady cool breezes are enviable. But it’s the combination of this natural beauty with the professionalism and genuine hospitality of the &Beyond team that make this small property truly special. Getting to know Paulo, the butler taking care of us, was one of the highlights of our trip. We loved his Portuguese lessons, impeccable attention to detail, and infectious smile. Isac, Josefa, Renoir, and the rest of the team also all contributed to make this a truly exceptional stay. It’s worth noting that the food at this property is world class. It’s particularly impressive given the remoteness of the lodge which forces the kitchen to make just about all ingredients in house. Of course, the seafood sourced from local fishermen shines brightest! I should note that our cabana was not fully sealed in the roof which did lead to some nocturnal squirrel visitors in our room. This wasn’t a big deal to us, but I would suggest to &Beyond that they more completely seal off the cabanas and casinhas with thatching or even discreet wiring to prevent larger critters from entering the rooms. All in all, a magical 5 days in a beautiful corner of southeastern Africa where we were able to disconnect after an action packed safari! Mozambique is a wonderful country with such generous and kind people.

We spent two weeks in Africa including stays at three different andBeyond properties. This two-star review has a lot to do with the comparison to the wonderful experiences we had at the other andBeyond resorts. First, THE BAD It’s buggy. Really buggy. I get it, they can’t control the insects on the island. But they could do more than hand you a can of bug spray and shrug their shoulders. The biggest issue is that their huts are not sealed. There are gaping holes where the walls meet the roof so anything from the outside world is suddenly inside your room. Bugs. Geckos. Rodents. (We constantly found rodent droppings in our bathtub. Ruined an amenity for us.) The immigration experience is rough. andBeyond does amazing things whisking you around in foreign countries. You always have somebody at airports helping you know where to go. That came to a screeching halt in Mozambique. andBeyond isn’t allowed on the arrival side of immigration so you’re on your own dealing with paperwork. Their native language is Portuguese which was a major issue for anyone there trying to speak English. If you don’t know what to do before you get there you’re going to be in rough shape upon arrival. The price. Yes you’re at a beautiful place. But for the amount they charge per night you should not have to worry about what’s crawling on you at night. What you might find in your bathtub tomorrow. Or what creatures you’ll find this time in the outdoor shower that you have to speed through. Compared to the other andBeyond properties we visited the price here does not make sense AT ALL. Then, THE GOOD It’s stunning. Probably the nicest beach I’ve ever been to. The property is set up in such a way that from your personal hut you cannot see anyone left or right on the beach. Soft sand, clear water, cloudless skies. It’s quite amazing. The activities are great. We snorkeled, did the castaway island and rode horses into the ocean. Just the boat rides to the first two were amazing, let alone the activities themselves. The service is excellent. Our butler (JP) was incredible. We walked along the beach to dinner every night. Shoes are 100% optional at this place, we never felt we needed them. — The good section probably makes you wonder how this could only be a two-star review. But go look at the costs for yourself. For us the bad outweighed the good and I could never recommend this place to anyone I know. We expressed our frustrations to our travel agent who hadn’t sent anyone there in a few years. They’re reconsidering Benguerra for future clients until something drastic changes over there. Overall it’s truly great from sunrise to sunset. But once the sun goes down there’s not much to do and your worries about the critters take over. Not worth it for the money you’ll spend.

The most beautiful place I've ever been... The service is abnormal. The views stunning... No chance to get bored because there's so much to do (diving, snorkeling, horse riding and loads of eating and drinking)..
