Asher Amens African Cafe

Restaurant West african restaurant

🫤 It was ok. Judging by the comments, if the person who’s responding takes that same energy and time to put it in the food maybe it would taste better. First timer at this restaurant, drove an hour 45 min and the food was not something I would eat again. One it’s over priced, as others have mentioned... People often mention soup, fufu, meat, time, rice, chicken, African, good, egusi, taste,

This was my first time trying African food.....so I will give my honest opinion! 1. Portion size does not match price...I paid $15 for soup and I barely had any juice to dip the fufu in! I feel 3 pieces of meat isn’t worth the price! 2. I was expecting it to be more flavorful not saying that it was bad I feel we could use more seasoning. 3. Fufu tasted like Instant mashed potatoes rolled up in a ball! So I gave this place 3 stars due to the lack of favor and portions!!

First timer at this restaurant, drove an hour 45 min and the food was not something I would eat again. One it’s over priced, as others have mentioned the meat is tough and the serving portion is scarce. For the price of the food you all should try being nicer. Clearly if everyone is saying the same thing about the food than it has to prove to be somewhat true. Put away your ego and go tenderize the meat plus work on your customer service skills. Thanks

I was super excited to try this meal and drove quite a distance to get it. The Jollob rice was really good but the meat was hard. It taste like the meat is cooked separate then added to the sauces. The Egusi and fufu is what I really wanted and it was a complete disappointment. The egusi wasn’t great but it wasn’t horrible. The fufu needed some salt or something. I love cassava and this was just a no!! I will try again from a different restaurant before I give up on this cultured food. I just recd response from the owner and how unprofessional can you be!!! We have a right to critique any food we buy. Hence, reviews!!! Your meat was not tender!!! And let’s clarify this. I’m from an island and been around different cultured food including African food! My brother-n-law is Nigerian and he cooks all the time so I know what good food taste like. I never had the egusi and fufu so I was curious to try!!! Your meat was HARD, probably days old!! And I did say the jollob was good probably one of the best I’ve had but your attitude is horrible!

Paid $73.78 dollars for four meals. 2 beef & chicken, 2 chicken Egusi meals. The chicken was so tough and full of fat I couldn’t eat it. Provided very little sauce. The big bun actually neutralized a little of the hotness of the mild greens mix. Overall a horrible meal. Didn’t look anything like the picture. Was 1/4 cup mix.. not even a full meal. Very disappointed! I drove so far…. First picture is only as much as I could eat and the second picture is what it looks like before eating. Hope your experience is better than mine was.

I wish I could give them ZERO STARS ! Literally the worst ! The meat in the Egusi soup was TOUGH, the flavor of the rice was Awful and tasted like metal ! I asked for chicken with my rice and they gave me the toughest beef ever! I’m so disappointed! I didn’t even eat one of the meals we ordered and they still charged! After I mentioned how hard the beef was! Didn’t offer me a new plate or anything ! Do not waste your money ! There’s a big beautiful spacious delicious restaurant right up the street! That serves the same food! GO THERE !

The vegetables soup was the first thing I tried from this place. It got my taste buds going crazayyy. Love it and I ordered multiple times later on. Then I orders the egussi soup at least twice, it was soooo delicious. Love it. Then I order the obono soup and eba ( pounded cassava). Took me by surprise, I did expect the obono soup to be slimy and the eba to be sour. I give the restaurant a call, the owner was so niiice. She said it was suppose to be slimy and cassava is sour because it was my first time. As somebody who hate any food with okra consistency, I was a little mad at first. But when the owner explain to me so nicely, I felt eager to try it. And I Lovee Ittt. I'm going my mother about this, somebody got me an okra consistency meal. Because God knows I absolutely hate Slimy food. But this dish got me loving it. Then I order the bitter leaf soup. I was youtube video on how to make it. The lady said it was not supposed to be bitter. But it was, absolutely bitter. At first not so much but then it got realllly bitter. I only ate the smoke meat and the fufu. I also prior to order the bitter leaf soup tried the ayamase soup. My siblings love it and I love it it was sooo delicious. Still love this place and I definitely look forward to exploring their menu more.

Everything was great. It wasn’t as spicy as they claim it would be. Maybe they were going easy on me with the spices since I’m American. I got the jollof with chicken and my partner got the Egusi soup with fufu everything was delicious.

Looks amainzg. Too bad this tastes like spicy water. I got the Ogbono “Stew”. It’s not thick at all, more of a soup and there’s absolutely no seasoning at all. Growing up in an all Nigerian church this is absolutely nothing close to it. I didn’t check the reviews first like I should have. I really had high hopes. Waste of money. I have no idea what to do with this

Had to come and change my review.. Was in the area and got a chance to stop by and place an order and I must say the food was amazing. Not as flavorful as I had expected, but it was still great being that it was my first time there!! Thank You!!

I agree with many of the other reviewers the meat was all tough the seasoning was missing; the only flavor was pepper. Recommendations buy a pressure cooker and get some maggie. The portion sizes are small the taste of the food needs to be worth $$$ spent.

My fiancé orders from here at least once or twice a week. By far the best Nigerian in the Tampa Bay area! Customer service is incredible and always greeted with a warm welcome when entering!

First time having African cuisine and it was a great experience! I had Ogbono soup, Egusu soup, fufu, jollof rice, chicken, goat, beef and a few things I forgot lol. I was with my African friend who showed me the ropes. I really loved the jollof rice with the meats, so much flavor. The ogbono soup was great as well with fufu. The staff is very nice. The hours posted online need to be updated. Hours are Monday-Saturday 11am to 5:30pm. The inside is small so not much seating and no AC, just fans. Overall great experience for my first time.

AMAZING!!! best jollof rice I’d had in all of Florida! I’ve tried to make it myself and I can never get the Smokey flavor they get. THE BEST jollof I’ve had other than in Africa 💗 great service and wonderful food all homemade.

Do not let this be your first stop for African food, if you do im afraid this resturant will make you think all african food is gross. Because i know how wonderful african food can taste im ok. The jollof rice and goat was disappointing. The jollof was burnt tasting and the goat was very spicy tuff and gamey. The okra and collard soup with hen and fufu was also horrible. The fufu was very dense and heavy. The meal was extreamly spicey and the knife could not cut thru the hen. This experience was absolutely terrible.

I ordered Jollof rice with chicken and beef. Paid almost $18 for a plate full of dry rice 2cubes of beef 2 cubes of chopped (hen) vs chicken; hen is very tuff with 6 tiny pieces of plantains. Food was not fresh at all. The cook offered 3 additional pieces of chopped hen without sauce. I rate the food (F)…Professionalism (C)….Atmosphere (C)

It was me and my son’s first time trying egusi soup and okra stew with fufu. We had been admiring the videos about African cuisine for a couple months but had no where in town to try any. We drove 44 minutes and arrived around 3:15 pm (they close at 4). There were a few people seated and eating so I asked for a menu to order it to go since I knew they were closing soon. The atmosphere was nice and I guess maybe it had just been a long day for the kitchen staff because they were pretty upset about people still walking in but it was only about 3:30 at this time. The cooks were telling the cashier to not answer the phone because they weren’t taking anymore orders. I was just glad I was about to get the little foot I did get since I’d driven all that way and payed over $40 for two bowls of soup, fufu and a can is sprite. Although the experience taught me to come way earlier to avoid aggravating the cooks, I really wish my stews had more meat for the price. The egusi soup was so amazing. I wish I had more goat in my okra stew though because the soup itself had a flavor we aren’t accustomed to yet so we really just wound up waisting that one. I assumed the spice was going to be a bit more amped up but I guess I’ll have to try other dishes that are maybe a bit spicier. There aren’t many African restaurants near where we live but I’m very curious to try more places like this one. It’s definitely different and worth trying.

Literally and Easily the best Egusi Soup and Fufu I’ve ever had! My sister and dad had the kill of rice with chicken and beef and was so good that we all scarfed it down before I could get good pics!

Best African Cafe hands down! The food is so good me and my family eat here at least 2 times a week. Even my picky kids love the fufu and egusi! My mouth is watering just thinking about this dish!

The food was delicious. The owner gave me my order. She had a pleasant attitude. Her restaurant was clean and orderly. The food was a Nigerian dish. I recommend this place!

This was my first time trying African food and I was stunned! The food was so flavorful and delicious the plantains were on point and the pounded yam was divine! Would definitely eat here again! Only thing was I was told three meats and I only got two meats and the meats were very small as you can see in the photo… other than that good food.

This is most terrible place to buy food, it was grave mistake for me to have come to buy food, I ask for assaulted meat but only get expired boiled chicken, palm oil taste weird, too much maggi egusi, vegetable and pepper soup was awful, please close your shop and stop deceiving people with a sole called poison that you refers to as food, the saddest part of it, was that I drove more than 1 hour to get to this rubbish call restaurant, may God withdraw my money from your account some how, $82. People that I bought the food for can’t even eat the food. I’m so disappointed and frustrated 😣 I wish I can leave Zero star, Please close this shop, before it’s get out of hands or repent and do the right things

I definitely wouldn’t recommend this place , the food was horrible & as you can see I’m still in the restaurant , I checked my food before leaving & wasn’t pleased, funny how they wouldn’t refund, look closely nothing in the plate smh, that’s $23 for 3 tiny pieces of meat definitely not worth it, by far the worse egusi I’ve had , never again 👎🏾
