Love the food at this place, never disappoints. The filter coffee is amazing. Had the mysore dosa and neer dosa and it was great. The place is usually crowded any time of the day. One of the good places for South Indian food!

This is my go to place. Most of the weekends I visit here. Good place to hangout with friends and family. The ambiance is too good. And I'm deeply in love with their Ginger juice. We tried Ginger juice (must try to beat the heat) Neer dosa stew (4/5) Pineapple sheera (4/5) Set doa (3/5) Podi dosa (4/5) Idli podi (4/5) Filter coffee (5/5) must try The Authentic feel of South India this place is a gem. You'll end up eating next to some celebrity while sharing the table.

A must place to try South Indian snacks and Filter coffee. Usually rush on weekends , long wait also place is congested u will have to share table if you are 1 or 2 persons. We tried bisibele bath , onion uttapa and Benne dosa. Bisibele bath was good, utappa and dosa was average, Pineapple sheera was very good. Filter kappi(coffee) is also a must try.

One of the oldest place to have authentic South Indian food. there is always a queue specially on weekends. The service is quick and really fast, the serve fresh hot food. There is a stall outside where you can purchase masalas, snacks, coffee filter etc. food is always fresh and amazing. Though its a small cafe and not very fancy but i am sure you will really like it. Take my words and do visit.

Lovely place to get Authentic South Indian taste. Just visit it and you will be amazed by the rush of people already waiting in line even before its opened. You will have to wait an avg of 15-20 minutes before you will be allotted a table. But the wait is totally worth it. Tried this restaurant for breakfast while exploring Mumbai. Their coconut chutney is just mouth watering. This will always be my go to place whenever I visit Mumbai.

This is one of the iconic places of Mumbai. We tried Pineapple shira, thuppa podi dosa and Madras Dahi Misal and Butter podi idli. Dosa is better. Misal was so so. You can try their veg stew with neer dosa and bisibille rice. The staff is quick and responsive. But there is always a waiting line. Plus, the space is crunchy. So they ask you to adjust with other people sitting on the same table.

A Flavorful South Indian Journey Step into cafe madras and be transported to the heart of South India. Amidst the bustling crowd, you'll discover an authentic gem that delights both the senses and the palate. The food at Cafe Madras is an unmistakable tribute to South Indian cuisine. From perfectly balanced spices to robust flavors, each dish tells a story of culinary tradition passed down through generations. The warm hospitality of the staff shines even in the midst of the crowd. Their dedication to creating a welcoming environment adds to the overall experience. While the restaurant's popularity might result in a busy atmosphere, the authenticity of the food and the lively ambiance make it worth every moment. For those willing to embrace the energy and savor the rich flavors, this is an essential dining destination.

A small cozy cafe that serves good authentic South Indian food and is always busy. Apparently famous movie stars such as Jackie Shroff and few others frequent this joint. All the food we tried was delicious and the filter coffee is out of this world! On Weekends there are people lining up before 7 am!! Their podi Dosa, podi upma was new even for me!

Decent South Indian Vegetarian Restaurant for Idli Dosa cravers. Ordered Plain Masala Dosa, Tuppa Podi Dosa, Upma Podi and Mysore Masala Dosa. Everything tasted as they are supposed to taste, which is good but not great. Place is very affordable. A word of caution: they don’t serve any other chutney other than the regular coconut chutney.

Highly overhyped! At first, you have to wait in a queue after that you will be sharing seats with other people. The joint is small and congested. We ordered Butter Podi Idli and Benne Masala Pesarattu. The food was cold and average in taste. The worst part was Quantity was too less with high prices!! Also, the normal water you get there, I drank it and felt like chlorine water. So don't drink it! The sambhar was average and the coconut chutney didn't taste like an authentic one. May be they have mixed peanuts in it. But the quantity of chutney provided for podi idli was far better than pesarattu. Lastly, The place doesn't even have a washroom!!

It has a waiting of almost 45-50 mins, but now i know why ! Its delicious breakfast items makes your mouth watering and leaves your tummy satisfied. A must try would include 1. Set Dosa with butter (It just melts on your tongue 🖤) 2. Rasam Idli or Vada 3. Filter Coffee Mysore Masala dosa and pongal were average so won't recommend on a must try list.

Finally tried it on a Friday afternoon. Been there several times but could never get it in due to the queue and my work urgency. Anyway the food was plain but tasty, clean. Just how I like it. The menu does have the required variety. The quality of food however is too good. No parking here. The restaurant’s full all the time so be ready to wait. But once you’re inside it’ll be worth it. Took one 🌟 away for parking and it’s seating. The place is not too accommodating. But do not let this stop you from going there. I will go again and again.

A very famous place indeed...soo crowded to have the south Indian breakfast here....we almost had to wait for an hour in the queue...but it was worth it! Food is very good with ample varieties. Am sure you will definitely have some dish to surprise your tastebuds! The filter coffee was authentic and served in their traditional way. Service is quick with politeness. There is a snacks counter just at the entrance where you will find varieties to munch on...

A very famous place in the heart of Mumbai ❤️!!! From name itself one can figure out its a south Indian restaurant. The taste is just amazing😍😋🤤. We were lucky that we needed to just wait for 5 minutes otherwise i have heard there will be long queue and one needs to wait for an hour or 2. We tried madras cafe special dishes like Pesarattu(moong dal dosa), ragi dosa, set dosa, podi idly, tuppa dosa and dahi misal. They serve vegan variant of some dishes too.

What a place ! What a vibe ! Visited her on a fine Sunday morning for brunch , outside it was flocked with the people and a long waiting list ! Thankfully I was alone so got a table quickly , which I had to share with previous occupants, after checking the menu carefully and taking peoples advice ordered a dosa , rassam , wada, filter coffee & ginger lemon water 😅😂, yes , I had all this by myself. The total bill being 350₹ only 😳🤭. The food was absolutely divine ! Each and every dish was so wholesome and filling ! Can’t wait to go back and try other dishes here. The crowd was very posh and that made me realise I did make a good choice ! Also , spotted the Instagram queen - Masson minawala here having a nice breakfast !

A nice experience. I have started this thing called Sunday Breakfast Hunting. This visit was a part of that. I always love Matunga eateries. Especially native south Indian ones. The Upma Podi is a must try. And the Dahi wada here not the usual sweet dish. It is as the dahi is flavored. Came as a shock on the first bite but loved it.

Café Madras is our all-time favourite place for South Indian snacks and filter kaapi, especially, during the weekends. Must try:- 1. Tuppa Podi Dosa 2. Set Dosa with White Butter 3. Rasam Vada 4. Neer Dosa with Sweet Coconut Chatni 5. Mysore Sada Crispy Dosa 6. Pineapple Sheera (icing on the cake!) Additionally, their filter kaapi is to die for! For those who are not into tea/coffee, do try their Nimbu Paani (with a hint of elaichi and kesar). If you are someone who wants to relish South Indian delicacies and have your hunger pangs satiated, Café Madras is the right place for you!❤️

Went during lunch 1.30-2.30pm). The place was crowded, then thinned out. Service was fast, we had hardly a 5-10min wait. Their onion rava masala dosa was super crispy. The masala felt so authentic and nice. Their sambar was average, nothing special. I felt like it did not have a nice and strong aroma. The samabar Vada was also delicious. They have trademarked their coffee so i was expecting. However the coffee was a bit disappointing. It was very watery, there was one strong coffee smell but the flavour intensity was not enough.

Just Wow!!!! to begin with. Fantastic place with mind blowing and palate satisfying South Indian taste delicacies. Food is Good, dining area is more than average, but have many tables, ample in number for dining. The place at times has waiting, so plan well ahead, though we got within 5 min. May be on weekend the waiting bis slightly higher. Coffee is just Filter Coffee, and taste really authentic. One thing to remember is the taste is actually from Tamil Nadu region, if one expects Andhra or Kerala taste, then it's slightly different. Give a try for Good experience

I know this place is very popular among locals and everything but frankly the taste was not up to the mark, the shared sitting options is a wrong move as some people just don't come to eat and go some just come to spend some time have a break and eat their food with calm, according to the restaurant they are right as there is too much crowd waiting so yes, Secondly hygiene and the quality is top notch but I didn't like the taste that much as if it was average only like every other restaurant The prices are high compared to other joints in the vicinity Filter coffee (kaapi) was top notch and was just perfect Thank-you, The place is highly recommended

Food is excellent which explains why it is over crowded. Some external space under building canopy can increase the space to house more tables, means more revenue. Why it is closed between 02:30 to 04:00 pm is not known. A place in "Must Visit" category.

Cafe Madras is a legendary restaurant serving South Indian Food specialising in breakfast items. Visited the cafe at 7.30 am and had to wait for 45 mins for my turn to savour the delicious food they make. As soon as I relished every bite of food and sip of coffee, all that wait felt worthy. Tried their Tuppa Podi Dosa (Dosa slathered with podi and ghee) Masala Dosa (quite similar to the regular potato masala), Podi Idli (idli dunked in a sea of Chutney and podi), Rasam Vada (Urad dal Vada soaked in rasam), Pineapple Sheera (the only place which doesn't add artificial colours or essence) and Kaapi. The Rasam Vada and Tuppa Podi Dosa is something which i would highly recommend. Pineapple Sheera was made in pure ghee but regular sheera with pieces of Pineapple. Loved every bit of it and taking back a palette full of flavours.

One of the best place to have South Indian food. You you love South Indian then you should definitely try this once. This is one of the oldest restaurants in this area. If you visit then you will see crowd standing outside waiting. The seating capacity is small but enough. You can try any of their dish and it won’t disappoint. They also have a shop outside with their spices, tea and coffee. If you go on weekend then make sure you have enough time because of he waiting time can go up to 30-40 mins.

Quantity is for dwarfs not normal human being samabar quantity is half of what u can expect in a normal restaurant...Worth visiting once to believe my review..One time visit is fine just to clear the doubt about the hype. Please note if u r a foodie u will burn a hole in ur pocket ..The most important thing if u r a tall person avoid going on the first floor u will regret it big time ..Waiter did not allow us to sit on table for two but made us sit in a table of his choice don't expect quality time just have ur food and move on ....

Medu wada, podi idli is good. Dosa and others dishes are average. They don't have sitting arrangements right now cause of covid but now I think they should open their restaurant. They don't have wash basin outside. They are following covid rules just for sitting except that don't have hand sanitizer at counter.

The best authentic South Indian breakfast I've ever had! A unique dish they have is Sett Dosa with butter & podi, absolutely delicious. It had a sweet tinch and was generously loaded with butter. The Podi Idli was yum. Their sambhar and chutney were just perfect. I loved their Pineapple Sheera, it had pineapple pieces, not too sweet and no added colour. That's how authentic they are. I generally stay away from food with synthetic colours. Nice Filter Coffee. Preferably visit on a weekdays as there's a long wait time on weekends, especially Sunday. Decent ambience and good staff. They are a bit over priced, however, when the food is so delectable, it's worthed! Kudos to this restaurant for having maintained the quality of their food for decades and generations. #highlyrecommended #authentic #mustvisit

Authentic South Indian and an iconic restaurant serving for more than 80 years now. Quality is always amazing. Try Tuppa dosa with ghee podi, butter podi idli, Rawa dosa. Rating 4 because did not like their pineapple sheera and rasam vada served to us was probably already made for someone as the Vadas were cold. Rasam was amazing. They also sell their sambar powder, rasam powder etc just outside. Long waiting hour to get seated and you might have to.share the table, so remember that while going. Service is good. Cheap on pocket. My first choice though is always Ramashraya!

Excellent food. Everything good except for parcel orders when u r dining in. You dine inside but parcel orders are never taken. Once done with dining once is supposed to come out and stand outside for parcel orders. Weird way of managing parcel. Upma podi, idli podi, medu wada, paan poli ,pessaretu and cofee are the best

The amazing thing about this place is their coffee. Due to Covid they are not providing seating. One can only have takeaway or can stand near the tables out side the café to have their favorite south Indian snack. Still would recommend the same.

Good restaurant. Very famous and very old also. At present due to current circumstances, seating is not allowed. But take away parcel is provided. It's coffee is so much flavour full that even in next lane you get the aroma. Only thing I would like to suggest that it's time to improve interior now. Otherwise must visit this for coffee, South Indian cuisine.

The right place to be at if you crave some good quality authentic south Indian food. Place is super crowded right from early in the morning when it opens. Kinda over priced, the menu available everywhere is old.. But what I strictly disliked is that they provide less quantity of Sambhar and Rasam and then they charge extra 35 bucks for that! Something that almost no other south Indian restaurant does. Also I ordered their idli butter puri, seeing from youtube where they showed that it be drenched in chutney but it doesn't. Infact the quantity of chutney is also less... Then their Mysore masala dosa also tasted like normal masala dosa only.

I can't believe it took me so long to come across this gem of a restaurant. A very rustic deli serving authentic south indian delights. The place is always full with people so do expect 10-15 minutes waiting time. The staff was very cooperative in ensuring that our entire group of 16 people could eat together during rush. The service time is fine and the food taste is simply outstanding. We ordered Mysore Masala Dosa, Medu Vada and Onion Uttapam which were absolutely delightful. But the show star was their signature kaapi served in the traditional dabra vessel and that is a type of coffee I won't mind traveling 70kms for again! The prices are surprisingly economical too, highly recommended!

There is no complaint about food here. And the quality and quantity of the parcel and the food is great. I suggest that you should order for a meal from here and have fun. I think this will be a good experience for you. I am happy with this experience. This is not to harm your respect but it is necessary to write here. I recommend the manager of the restaurant and the high official of that, that you should pay attention to the staff of the restaurant. The behavior of the staff with the people who came to the restaurant was not looking right. People who come here scream like the local market, yet the staff does not answer properly.they reply According to their wishes, after seeing the people, they answer.

Cafe Madras - Place of purity and quality food. Best place to have all kinds of South Indian foods. Good in taste and comfortable old Style dining. Good service and also offer coffee, Mysore Pak and Halva. Must try Masala Dosa, Rasam Wada, Pessarettu Dosa, Bisibele rice and pineapple sheera. Must try once to have real taste 😋

Anything and everything on the menu tastes great. They have very limited menu, only and only south Indian dishes. There is no full meal or thalis available. Coffee is best there. Very very authentic food. Interior and dining place is very boring but food is great.

Ghee idli was yummiest I have ever had.. the podi dosa was unexpectedly bad and filter coffee was a disappointment.

For a seemingly legendary restaurant, food was BELOW average. The dosa was undercooked. The Mysore masala dosa didn't have the red pudi. And the stew was like korma. So not authentic. Nowhere near the hype

Cafe Madras provides an exceptional South Indian breakfast experience that deserves applause. The authenticity of their breakfast menu shines through, with idlis and dosas reaching a level of perfection that transports you to the heart of South India. However, the real star of the show is the butter Podi idli – a dish that takes yumminess to new heights. The combination of soft idlis, luscious butter, and flavorful Podi creates a taste sensation that is truly unforgettable. And let's not forget about their aromatic filter coffee. It's not just a beverage; it's a journey into the rich coffee culture of South India. The blend is robust, the texture smooth – a perfect companion to the flavorful breakfast spread. Cafe Madras, with its authentic dishes and the delightful butter Podi idli, offers a breakfast experience that's not just a meal but a celebration of South Indian flavors. A must-visit for those seeking a delicious start to their day.
