We visited this place to see a huge variety of fishes but unfortunately the number of fishes has decreased and the tanks are also no very clean as they should be. The information near the fish tanks are not readable, theyโ€™ve pasted papers which has information. Expecting that they take entry fees of Rs.60, everyone expects the place to be more good and informative; we would mind the fees to increase and get to see even more variety and not only empty tanks. The place is located right opposite to Marine lines and the nearest railway station is Charni Road or Marines line.

CLOSED SINCE 2 YEARS. Ignore the recent reviews and the tagline that says "renovated with over 2000 fishes". We visited here today (18 Aug 2021) and it was closed. Drove all the way to this place from Panvel. All the recent reviews are either fake or the people who reviewed them suddenly woke up after 2 years just to review this place. Even the Maharashtra tourism website is helpless. Also these guys don't answer calls. Security said this place has been closed for 2 years.

This place is closed due to Covid 19 since last one year. People are giving fake reviews here that it is open. We wasted whole day and money after reading reviews and thinking it's open-( travelling from Navi Mumbai to Mumbai). Also nobody picks phone over there if you wish to enquire beforehand.

In entire mumbai we only have one and only one Aquarium i.e Taraporevala Aquarium and that is also closed since lockdown. Kindly mention the reason of temporary closure, it's a vacation period for all children, it's a humble request kindly update us when it will be started and how long it will take.

The place is closed, and will remain closed due to many reasons Coastal Road construction and it seems the aquarium itself is in some renovation. Bt security person clarify it will open only after the completion of Coastal Road. 1 star due to difficulty to reach out for authentic updated of the center. I have visited fee years back when they renovated the place, and it was in better place than earlier. They are trying to upgrade but not done real Good job. But hopefully in future they would do. A request to person incharge to keep contact details and place availability updated so that ppl could plan better rather than investing time, money, energy for nothing. Thank You

It's huge collection and preservation hub of diffrent species of fish. The visiting fee they charge don't justify it as you can't take photos inside, no guide to give you information about it, no place to rest, no proper parking. Won't recommend to come over here mainly for this.

I went here last weekend with my family and the watchman bit my youngest son. Thatโ€™s still solvable but what about the piranha attack on my grandfather? Other than that we got no food and they served my old mum to the โ€œbig rajaโ€ aka the megladon. Found Nemo thatโ€™s for the one star!

Nice Experience.. Fish and nature lovers must visit to see awesome species of Fish ๐ŸŸ๐ŸŸ.. I visited this place during Mumbai Darshan.. Awesome experience just in front of this aquarium building you can enjoy the Arabian sea.. The canteen on the first floor of the Aquarium building serves awesome food as well.. Incredible India ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป๐Ÿคฉ Jai Hind Jai Bharat ๐Ÿ˜โฃ๏ธ This sightseeing place in Mumbai is one of the largest aquariums in the city of Mumbai. Situated in Marine Drive, this aquarium was founded by D. B. Taraporewala, a Parsi philanthropist, in the year 1951. The aquarium has a twelve feet long three-sixty degrees glass tunnel that holds interesting marine life. There are several species of fish here, such as damselfish, butterfly fish, tiger fish, angelfish, moss, sea urchins, sea cucumber, marine eels, tube worms, tangs, batfish, puffer fish, tangs, jellyfishes, orandas etc that make this aquarium a highly diverse collection of marine life. There are a total of thirty-two tropical tanks in the building. You can also see several species of freshwater and marine plants such as water lilies. There is also a fish spa and touch pool, where you can dip your feet in the water and the fish eat away the dead skin off your feet (at the fish spa), and you can touch sea urchins, turtles, sea cucumbers in the touch pool.

Its nice for a one time visit. There are variety of fishes and sea creatures but to a very limited extent. Also the aquarim is not well maintained. They could have utilised the space by providing more species of aquatic creatures and by maintaining the old one by giving them proper conditions.

Taraporewala Aquarium, is a popular tourist attraction located in Mumbai. The aquarium is home to a wide variety of marine life, including fish, turtles, rays, and other sea creatures. Visitors to the aquarium can explore the various exhibits, which showcase different ecosystems and habitats, from freshwater ponds to coral reefs. The aquarium also has a touch pool, where visitors can interact with some of the marine animals and learn more about their behavior and habitats. The aquarium is well-maintained and the exhibits are informative and engaging. The tanks are clean and the marine life appears to be healthy and well-cared for. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly, and they provide visitors with interesting insights into the different species and their behaviors. Overall, the Taraporevala Aquarium is a great place to learn about marine life and explore the underwater world. The aquarium provides a unique and educational experience for visitors of all ages, and it's a great place to escape the hustle and bustle of Mumbai for a few hours.

A really very huge building with the aquarium itself in a very small place. Wonder why. There are not more than 20 varieties of fish here. Display boards and info do not match the actual species of fish. Extremely crowded, noisy and poorly ventilated. Irony is they have big sculptures of dolphins, whales and what not. No real big fish here. The fish tanks also contain simple walls in background with a few pebbles here and there. You can skip this one.

It's aquarium with different fishes, and description as display so we can see and learn and enjoy. Nearly 70 types of fishes are there and a small theatre is there to display about taraporevala aquarium and fishermen like that. Ticket costs are 30 for kids and students 60 per adults and 200 for foreigners. For me it's not worth that cost because you can't even take pictures inside.

This place is not worth the visit, instead go to a local fish aquarium its much cleaner and tidy there. The ticket charges are reasonable but the photography charges are not worth to pay as you really don't feel like clicking pictures of dirty water fish. Charges are 500 rs from mobile and i really felt cheated. It's just ground floor with 50 odd species of fishes.

Huge aquarium on the charni road highway. You can find varieties of fish here from goldfish to sharks. Best place to take your kids. Tickets should be taken in order to visit the aquarium. They show you a small clip which provides information about artifical fishing and other stuff related to fishes. Aquarium is currently closed due to covid pandemic.

An okay place to visit. A small variety of sea and fresh water fish - just enough to pass as a private collection, not as much as an establishment I remember from childhood. Declining quality of tanks and aging infrastructure is evident. The aquarium is in urgent need of restoration to its past glory.

The aquarium is on Marine Drive, the aquarium is very old and famous. The place is not properly maintained. The queues are not managed properly and also the exhibits are not clean. The fee is โ‚น60/- for Indian tourists.

It was nice to see it after so much hype in movies. It is equipped with a washroom . Fees is Rs 60 for adults and rs 30 for kids. Camera would cost Rs 1000 and phone camera Rs 500

Immersed in a vibrant underwater world, I marveled at the kaleidoscope of colors as exotic fish glide gracefully through the water. The hypnotic dance of the jellyfish and the playfulness of the sea otter created an exciting symphony of marine life, making my visit to the Taraporevala aquarium was a truly enchanting experience. I and my family enjoyed a lot.....๐Ÿคฉ

The tanks were very dirty. The fishs felt so sad. They were contained in very small places. It slowed them down. Many of tanks were empty. This place shouts of renovation, they are only taking people's money. They are neither renovating it nor making it better for those fishes. It's an absolute waste of time this place.

Not As Great as it used to be quality of tanks is detoriated Only few species of Pisces are there . We get to see a Goldfish is a Good Family Restaurant but can't see the same Fish in an Aquarium that's quite unacceptable plus there are only common species which we already have seen and heard and we don't get to see any RARE OR UNIQUE FISH SPECIES WHICH AN AQUARIUM SHOULD CONSISTS OF.โ˜น๏ธ Also The Information about the fishes is posted on just a piece of paper which is quite LAME. So with all these how can one expect their children to have fun and get information and experience in it Instead they would rather like to spend time on Marine Drive which is just opposite of Aquarium So in Short please take all the possible measure to restore it's dignity back just like 90's.

Taraporevala Aquarium is a fish muesum. Here various varieties of ocean fishes are preserved to make people see what are the creatures inside the ocean. The aquarium is located in Mumbai in the state of Maharashtra. Near to the aquarium is the Arabian Sea. There are small icecream stalls you will found in and around the place. The place is very good and you can come here with your family and friends,I hope you will have some good knowledge as well as have some fun.

Inaugurated in 1951, Taraporewala Aquarium in Mumbai is India's oldest museum. Despite the aquarium being old, its has an efficient infrastructure. In the aquarium, tourists can see a good variety of freshwater fishes, sharks, turtles, rays, moray eels, sea turtles, small starfish and stingrays roaming freely in 12-feet long and 360-degree acrylic glass tunnel. Overall, there are 16 sea water tanks and nine sweet water tanks in the aquarium, each featuring a different type of ecosystem such โ€œmoss aquariumโ€ for pregnant fishes, โ€œplantation aquariumโ€ that features imported varieties of water lilies and other aquatic plants and โ€œisland aquariumโ€. When in the aquarium, make a point to visit the special museum, where kids can touch the fishes.

I really appreciate that we have an aquarium in mumbai. I hope they taje good care of them though. Inside the aquarium you will get to see different fishes and turtles and many many species of fishes and side of each there is a knowledge prior where you can read about it, the facts their behaviour or anything. It's a good place for children to visit. And the entry fee is quite reasonable!! Recommended!!!

The place was not very good, the tanks were dirty and some of them were even empty and you are not allowed to take pictures even. So I suggest to go there only when you want to escape the heat of mumbai๐Ÿ•ถ๏ธโ˜€๏ธ and be in a cool place for some while!

They charge you exorbitant. Better visit your nearest fishmarket, at least the fishmarket will be variety, much cleaner and smell better than this place.

Had been to the aquarium with my kid. Entry is 60 for adults and 25 for kids above 3 yrs of age. The best attractions were the Turtles (both variety of Big & Small), lion fish and the fresh water fish. Last time they had shark also which I could not find this time. The aquarium is a good place to go with your kids and can easily kill 30 min to 1 hr here.

It's a good place to hangout with kids. It is maintained okay and tickets are also affordable. It's a small aquarium in area yet good amount of species are visible here. It's a fun place to visit. Located on Marine drive makes it quick visit spot. Won't keep you engage for long.

Not a very good aquarium, not alot of fish, just some unusual but common aquarium fish. I've kept fish all my life and for me it was a disappointment as I think it would be for most people who are into fish. Liked the grouper tank as it was large and the males were sitting over eggs guarding them, havnt seen grouper before in aquarium or wild before so this I enjoyed. Still worth a visit not expensive good for kids and people who don't keep fish

Some tanks are empty. Glass is not clear. Photography is not allowed inspite of 60 Rs.entry fees. The documentary they show has very poor video quality like 360p . You can visit and appreciate some unique fishes. Otherwise it needs a serious upgrade.

It is one of the oldest acquarium and one of the city's main attractions. Located on Marine Drive it is easily accessible to both Marine lines and Charni road Railway station. There are about 100 species of Marine and Fresh water fish. Attraction includes sharksxl, turtles, rays, small starfish, stingrays and so on. Outside the acquarium since it's located opposite to the sea it's quite windy and nice.

First of all the position of the aquarium is awesome the seafront and the marine drive makes an awesome combination with the aquarium and creates awesome view, the building is big and well maintained and u have to buy tickets for entry that's obvious but u cannot take pictures inside the aquarium without paying an extra cost for the permission of taking pictures the aquarium is not too big or you may think like an underwater aquarium but its good enough to pay a visit, there are various types of fishes , seahorses, turtles and all various kind of small aquatic animals and the information is well displayed about the creatures you are watching, cleanliness is average not very good but well maintained inside the aquarium the structure is fine upon entering at very first you will find a small fishtank above your head that looks beautiful there are various types of small and medium sized sea creatures in various sized fish tanks all would i say that is good enough and a good place to visit with family and it is at a great place!

As per I know this is the only one aquarium in entire mumbai. To get entry here you will have to take ticket which is of 60-70Rs. It is worth to visit here, this aquarium is filled with plenty of fishes which you might haven't seen before.

  • 4/5 Radhika M. 4 years ago on Google
The kids will enjoy it, the adults maybe not so much. The fishes are kept in a small enclosure. Some fishes do bring out the child in you n will light up your eyes. Camera is allowed on a paid basis but I would not recommend.

-Some tanks were empty and some had different fishes mixed together. -Toilet is okay. -Drinking Water available. -The Tropical fishes section is a bit better than the main part. -The artifacts like coral reefs, oyster shells are good. -A lot of scope for improvement, but they just don't care.

A good place for the students and curious people about fish species. Taraporevala aquariumย isย India's oldest aquarium and one of the main attractions of Mumbai city. Here you will find marine and freshwater fishes mainly. The aquarium is located onย marine driveย inย Mumbai. Around 400 different kind of fish species should be here according to their information about aquarium but when I visited this count was different. The Aquarium is maintained by Department of Fisheries itself. In the aquarium around 16 sea water tanks and 9 Fresh water tanks, there are 31 types of fish, while 32 tropical tanks contains 54 kind of fishes. Photography inside the aquarium is prohibited so that you can't capture them anyhow but you will enjoy here with your family. For the students I must say visit and get to know about the fishes and their life.

  • 2/5 dior d. 3 years ago on Google
The best thing about the place was the entrance..you feel like you're walking through a sea tunnel and THAT'S IT . The queues are serpentine and there isn't a good crowd control mechanism. Additionally what was really annoying was the screens displaying information about the fishes in the tank kept flashing photography not permitted or do not eat in the aquarium, so it takes a good 5 minutes just to read the name of a fish. The turtles are cute as were quite a few species of fish so I quite understand why children would enjoy this place. Do not spend money on photography charges, it is dark and difficult to click pics and you'd be better off searching for the images on the internet. If your an adult who isn't going there because your children want to visit you are bound to feel like a fish out of water!!

Waste of money, no renovation.. just ac hall. And creatures in tank not well maintained.. feels sad for them. 500โ‚น for Mobile photography inside. But it's completely worthless wasting even your entry money to this place.I had a great expectations , that after renovation it would be good to visit after so many years. Last visit was a decade ago.when I was a school boy. But now I see no difference. Municipal corporation should look after such places, as there are very few places left in Mumbai people come from far and get disappointed after seeing such a poor management.

It is much hyped about on internet. It's like a collection of a private fish lover. Mostly clown fish, lobster etc The only fish that I personally loved was piranha. It was nice to see it after so much hype in movies. It is equipped with a washroom . Fees is Rs 60 for adults and rs 30 for kids. Camera would cost Rs 1000 and phone camera Rs 500
