A hidden treasure in Mumbai that should get more advertising for tourist who want to know more about the life of Gandhi. The building is well kept & maintained. There is a huge libary there which people can access. It is good to go in there with a local guide who can guide you through the building. The place has been kept as it was when Gandhi used to live there. An eye opening experience 👍😁

Mani Bhavan on Laburnum road is houses a museum and a library. On Mondays and Fridays between 3 and 4 pm, they teach how to use a peti charkha. You can spend some time here making your own threads. They also have a small shop where you can buy collections of postage stamps commemorating Mahatma Gandhi in addition to buying books by/on Gandhiji.

It's really good with a lot of information on the life of Gandhiji. There are multiple miniature blocks of Gandhiji's life and also Gandhiji's equipments. They are also restructuring the building now, after a month it will be better.

One should visit this place at least once in his/her life. The Mani Bhavan situated at Laburnum Road near babulnath police station. Gandhiji was stayed at this place during 1917 to 1934 and this property belongs to Revashankr Jhaveri. May of social movements initiated at this place. Now this place converted in to a Museum with library and re created Gandji's life time. Gandhiji's belongs taken here very well. When we enter in this home as an Indian I really felt horripulation. It's very calm place and not at all crowded. The entry is totally free and photography also allowed here. Very friendly administrative people and they are very pro-active answer our queries. I highly recommend this place to visit with children.

Touching dedication to a great life. They have a historical library, historical photos and dioramas, and Mahatma Gandhi's room preserved. I visited on tour with Tushar Gandhi, who shared more details about his great grandfather and all the photos and books collected there.

The Mani Bhavan Gandhi Sangrahalaya is a house in South Mumbai where Mahatma Gandhi lived for 17 years between 1917 and 1934. The house has been turned into a museum and library. The latter contains amongst many books, a collection of books that once belonged to Gandhi. The upper two floors are museums space detailing bothi his life and his role in the Indian struggle for independence. Mani Bhavan is a great museum dedicated to a great man.

Mani Bhavan Gandhi Sangrahalaya is a museum and memorial dedicated to the life and legacy of Mahatma Gandhi, one of the most revered leaders in Indian history. This two-story building located in Mumbai was Gandhi's home from 1917 to 1934, and it was from here that he launched his famous non-violent movement against British colonial rule. The museum is a fascinating tribute to Gandhi's life, teachings, and work. The exhibits include rare photographs, personal items, and documents that provide a glimpse into Gandhi's life and the social and political context of his time. Visitors can see the room where Gandhi lived and worked, as well as the terrace where he addressed the public and the famous spinning wheel he used to spin cotton. The museum also hosts events, workshops, and lectures related to Gandhi's philosophy of non-violence, communal harmony, and social justice. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly, and they provide insightful commentary on the exhibits and answer questions. The highlight of the museum is the Gandhi Memorial Room, which features a life-size replica of Gandhi's room at Birla House in Delhi, where he was assassinated in 1948. The room is filled with artifacts and personal belongings, including the blood-stained cloth Gandhi wore when he was shot. The room is a moving tribute to Gandhi's life and a reminder of his enduring legacy. In summary, Mani Bhavan Gandhi Sangrahalaya is a must-visit destination in Mumbai for anyone interested in Gandhi's life and teachings. The museum offers a fascinating glimpse into Gandhi's life and the social and political context of his time. It's a moving tribute to one of the most influential figures in Indian history and a reminder of his enduring legacy.

Mani Bhavan, situated on Laburnum Road is one of the most famous buildings in the precinct. It is a simple ground + 2 stories structure. It was owned by Revashankar Jagjeevan Jhaveri, a friend of Mahatma Gandhi. He invited Gandhiji to stay therein, and from 1917 to 1934 the house became the focal point of political activities in Mumbai. From here were initiated the Non-Cooperation, Satyagraha, Swadeshi, Khadi, Khilafat and Home Rule Movements. On 4th January 1932 Gandhiji was arrested from the terrace. In 1955 the Gandhi Smarak Nidhi took over the building to maintain it as a memorial to Gandhiji. Today visitors from the city, country and overseas pay their respects to the Father of the Nation.

Too good place to visit.quite well maintained, neat and it will take you down the memory lane of Gandhiji's life.the depicts looks quite close to life with emphasis given to minutest of minute detailing. The depiction of Jallianwala bagh massarace was though gory but then it's a fact which can't be ignored iwould spend hours just admiring this place.though I feel this museaum should be widely and extensively given widespread promotion as even locals don't know the existence as well as whereabouts of this place.do visit during less peak hours as it's quite a small place and can get congested.found plenty of foreigners taking interest at this place.photography is allowed.parking is a bit problem

This place is of Historical importance as this the house where Mahatma Gandhi Stayed after he returned to India. It was mani bhavan where gandhiji started struggle for freedom of India. One thing sad about this place is that very few Indians visit this place. This place visited by many foreigners I was single Indian visitor there, and trust me they know much more about him than us, which is due to current polarisation done by ruling government as they blemished his name among masses.

A museum of the items owned and used by Gandhiji, well preserved and maintained in his original residence when he would stay in Bombay. It is a well-kept, two storeyed historic place with labelled articles used during the age of Gandhiji.

Located on Laburnum Road in Mumbai, Mani Bhavan was Mahatma Gandhi’s headquarters between 1917 and 1934. Mani Bhavan was the place where Mahatma Gandhi orchestrated most effective non-violent freedom struggle in the history of mankind like Satyagraha against Rowlatt Act; opposing Indian Press Act; learning carding and spinning; starting Khadi movement and Hindu-Muslim University, and issuing manifestos to rally people’s support for the government. It was from this house, the first phase of non-violent freedom struggle was launched. In fact, his historic fast to restore peace in Mumbai was started in Mani Bhavan on 19th November 1921. Library: Here one can see more than 40,000 books & periodicals on Gandhism and Indian independence movement. See below for timings. Auditorium: On the first floor of the museum, one can find an auditorium, where speech recordings of Mahatma Gandhi are played on request. Meetings, seminars, discussions and various competitions for school and college students are organized in auditorium on daily basis.

As someone who had never really studied the life of Ghandi, I found this museum/memorial very informative and enlightening. The exhibits are neatly divided into rooms, and the curations of old letters and historical items were well thought out in their displays. Humanity needs more places like this to educate the youth and remain connected to history.

A museum that provides a peek into the life of Mahatma Gandhi. Gandhi lived in Mani Bhavan whenever he visited Mumbai during a 15 year period. A fitting tribute with photos, letters, paintings, sculptures, and a fantastic miniatures exhibit tell Gandhi's life. Some of his personal items are also exhibited. This is an unassuming place but rich in history.

My visit to mani Bhavan was a very memorable experience. I felt closer to the mahatma after spending an entire afternoon in this historic palace moving inch by inch seeping in every emotion left behind by the great soul who once lived here. Gandhi changed the course of the freedom struggle from this place and this generation cannot be more grateful for what he did here. The place is very well maintained by pure Gandhians who take a great deal of effort to keep the soul of the place intact. Go with like minded folks, with an open heart and you will come back reborn!

The place has so much history in it, but the maintenance is pathetic. Too start with the entrance is non descript. The watchman told me that there's a ticket for 20 rupees. There was no ticket counter. A polite man at the entry said that the amount was the 'minimum' donation to be dropped in the donation box. Found that weird. The library was poorly maintained and there was hardly any reading zone. The two floors above were better maintained, but very amateurish. Hope someone does up the place. In other countries, places with one tenth the history are displayed with far more splendor. A ticket worth 100-150 would be will worth it, only if the maintenance was good.

Entry fee is Rs 20 per person although being said free entry on multiple websites. Very clean and highly maintained museum. The ground floor has book & stamp collections with seating area. The first floor contains images and letters written by Gandhiji to Hitler and others. The second floor houses miniature exhibitions depicting important events of Gandhiji's life created by an artist and also his personal utensils. Gandhiji's room is also very well preserved. The entire museum is well ventilated through multiple balconies. There is a restroom on the first floor and cold drinking water on the ground floor. A good 2 hour spent here admiring every exhibit.

It's a really good place to visit. It has pictures of Mahatma Gandhi from his childhood to adulthood with captions and his biography. There are three floors at this place . At the bottom floor is the book library and on the 1st floor different pictures of Mahatma Gandhi, of his movements, his lifestyle etc. are there. At the 2nd floor there is a spinning wheel and some of the belongings of Mahatma Gandhi and beautiful clay models. You must visit this place. It is very calm and has little to no traffic.

Worth the trip to say youve been. There is a fee to enter but it is minimal and if you go with a guide it’s usually covered. It is a straight for historical place where you will need to read through most of the history. My guide let me know that the home as it stands today is not the home of Gandhi. There are photos on one of the floors that show you what it was like when he was there. This location is more of a representation of his work and what he stood for.

It was an honor to be able to visit this bungalow that was Mahatma Gandhi's Bombay house from 1917-1934, now converted into a museum in his memory. Besides the plain spartan room, there are pictures of events from his life. One is able to gain a real sense of Gandhi and India's struggle for independence. I visited the museum on the Mumbai Like a Local Tour with Mumbai Magic. It was impactful to see the room where Gandhi stayed, and the extensive dioramas were an excellent way to to learn or relearn the history of his life. The facility is not large, and is definitely worth a visit either during or outside of a Mumbai tour.

What a great historic place - takes your breath away as you imagine this is where the Mahatma stayed and took so many significant decisions from. Would be even better with a guide, and better information about the documentary timings. But still overall highly recommended! One last point - it would be good to have a neater dedicated place for selling khadi rather than in a heap in the middle of a room.

(Translated by Google) Visiting the Mani Bhavan mansion is an experience to find through his photos and memories, the essence of that apostle of peace that was Ghandi. The house houses a biographical museum, a library (with more than 50,000 copies about Gandhi's social sciences, peace and philosophy, among others), an auditorium (where videos and documentaries are broadcast, and lectures are given), a gallery and a research center among other things, the second floor of Mani Bhavan houses the one that was Gandhi's room and office. The price in January 2020 was 30 rupees per person, barely 3.5 euros, and although many disenchanted because almost everything that is displayed are photos, I particularly found it very interesting, because, in addition to photos, it they exhibit personal belongings and the old wheel of Gandhi, which is considered a symbol of the struggle for independence, a return to the roots and the possibility of self-employment for poor people. At the entrance of the residence, there is a plaque indicating the place where Gandhi was arrested in January 1932 The visit is really worth it, to find curiosities such as letters he wrote and received from famous contemporaries such as Churchill, Einstein, Tolstoy, Roosevelt or Hitler to ask him to end the war, and photographs with all kinds of politicians and characters of his time, Like Charlie Chaplin.
