Manis lunch home has always been my favorite spot from my college days in Matunga. On a Sunday I had some work in Matunga so decided to visit Manis lunch home . I am visiting this restaurant after a gap of 4 years. I ordered Idli vada sambar while my wife ordered lemon rice. The idli vada sambar was very good compared to all the ones I tasted in & around Mumbai. It was very close to the taste in southern part of India. In my college days visit to this restaurant made me nostalgic. As usual even after 24 years they still maintain the restaurant neat & clean. They still serve unlimited sambar & chutney with the dishes.I loved their chutney more than their sambar. The taste of idli vada was same as that tasted four year/ even 24 years before. It was always difficult to get a place to sit inside the restaurant during weekends especially the peak hours. Today we went at an odd time of 11 am so we could comfortably sit inside the small restaurant. The lemon rice was served with kerala pappadam & chutney. It tasted good. The rice looked bulky similar to that used in Kerala.Overall it tasted good. Then although my stomach was full I wanted to taste their plain dosa to which I am a bigger fan.The dosa taste amazing good & kudos to the team for maintaining their standards over the years. I topped it with a nice filter coffee. The coffee was great & a must have so whenever you have food here pls keep space for the filter coffee. My wife is a tea lover so she ordered Tea. The teas was good as per her. I did not want to spoil my coffee taste😜 so did not taste the tea.I love to keep the taste of filter coffee to stay in my mouth as long as possible. It was nice to recollect old memories sitting in this restaurant. It had made our day. Thanks to the management to keep the restaurant intact even after so many years. Hats off to the team.It is a must visit restaurant in Mumbai if you like authentic South Indian breakfast.

Very traditional south indian food to experience. They have good variety of food. Add Ghee to every item you will choose, it will taste better. Sambar and chutney having typical south Indian taste. Good resto for regular south Indian cravings.

Super delicious south indian veg restaurant since 1937! I know it since 22 yrs! Refreshing college memories at breakfast and snacks time! Filter coffee is a super duper hit here! They offer unlimited chutney and sambar on hot idlis and vadas! Such fluffy and tasty idlis with yummy sambar and chutney is mouth watering! Dosas are uttapams are superb too! Must must try this place! There is a queue if cars outside this restaurant! Imagine its incredible status and image it has created over the years! Its a small place and enough for crowds hence people sit in cars and order food and are served in cars! Surely recommended!

Mani's Lunch Home, Sion Located close to Sion station this is a lodge like establishment where working people from around come for meals. There is a long 20mins wait as only when everyone inside finishes meal next batch is taken. This is waste of time as it only thinks about staff serving and not customers. They serve south Indian vegetarian food with rice sambar, 15ml of Rasam, 1tablespoon of two vegetables - jackfruit and korma, papadam, pickle, 50gm of curd and 15ml of butter milk and two paper thin Chapatis. The quantity of Sabji n everything else is as in seen in picture is what you will get. Rice is thick normal day to day cheap rice. Sambar was good. Anything you want second helping you have to pay for tablespoons of veggies or 15ml of rasam. The place is very old and shabby. Staff is jovial. Such long wait and average Tasting food with such small portions at price they serve were negatives apart from ambience. Seating arrangement is also congested and you will have to share table with some stranger. Overpriced & Not Value For Money Taste - 3/5 Service - 3/5 Quality - 3/5 Value for money - 3/5 Parking Space - Not Available Free WiFi - Not Available

One of the best medu wada & onion Uttappa to eat here. The place is very small with fans and most of the times people have to share the table which is uncomfortable. The staff is very hospitable. The taste is amazing. Do try their onion rava dosa as well. Parking is a problem here.

Manis had been my childhood favourite. I love unlimited chutney and sambar they provide. Everything here is good especially the idlis. It's a small place, crowded, have to share seats with strangers but it's worth it. It's a legendary place, really old.

Authentic South India Dishes. This eating joint has an age old legacy and goodwill. Over a period of years they operate from the same small premises. But those who has tasted once, will definitely go back there to eat.

Excellent idlis and wadas. Dosas were strictly passable. Their sambar and chutney is unlimited and their service is pretty good. It is a small place and is non air-conditioned. They don't accept PayTM or cards. Cash only. Food is served throughout the day till it gets over. Parking is an issue.

Have been eating at this restaurant since my college days at Podar College in Matunga. A nice place for having a quick bite of South Indian food. The place is always crowded and most of the times people are waiting in queue outside. Every item made by them is worth a try though their Medu Wada & Butter Sada / Rava Dosa remain my favourites. The place is clean n hygienic and staff is courteous & prompt... P. S. - You'll need to share the table with others most of the times. If you don't mind it, this can be easily your go to place for breakfast / lunch / evening bite...

A nice place to have authentic south Indian breakfast and filter coffee. The prices are pretty reasonable and the food is also good. Do try their Onion Uttapam and Medu Vada. During weekends there is usually a wait for seating as the seating capacity is small it can accommodate only 10-12 people inside. They aslo have take away.

Mani's is an iconic place and nothing I say or write can change that status. Almost like a hole in the wall with just 6 four seater tables, you will always find it full for the south indian breakfast menu. The sambar and chutney is unlimited and the filter kapi is to die for! Most of us have some or the other nostalgic memory associated with Mani's...

In the recent past Mani's Cafe has opened a joint in Mulund East, bang opposite Sai dham hospital, though the food quality is extremely good the two visits experience has been really bad, 1.Though there is Q system, but hardly any body is decent n patient enough to follow the Q system 2.When requested the person to come in Q the Insider working person is asking the right person to keep queit, and says, it's like this only, even if we keep a person to manage the Q, ....this was rude enough 3. Since There is no place to sit and eat, it should be purely a take away joint, no food allowed to served on the footpath or vicinity, a lot of inconvience is happening to the general public apart from creating traffic jams, I think Police should take a note of this and a proper action would be appreciated from the authorities who give licences, how can people crowd around and eat on footpath or road 4.Owners please make a note of this as it is causing a lot of unwanted fights at the counter, which might be not good for your reputation in the near future

Food is of a very good quality. Authentic Palaghat style dish preparations. Very good service and the fare too is quite reasonable compared to similar restaurants of Matunga. All in all, eating at Mani's Lunch home is always a pleasant experience. The only gripe I have is a congested seating arrangement otherwise everything else is absolutely 🙂

I remember to Mani's regularly when i was in college.. used to one of the best South Indian joints with really good taste. Went there after years and it's not at all what it used to be .. not good taste to anything. Sambar was salty, chutney was tasteless, coffee was just sugar.. overall, quality degraded lot

Man's lunch home - situation in Matanga. A perfect place for South Indian food lover. I m personally suckers for South Indian food - butter Dosa, coconut chutney, medu Vada, idlis, uttapam and what not.. they have everything... And how can you not think about filter coffee after all this... they serve unlimited chutneys.and sambar.. if they see your plate is empty they will just come and fill your chutney plate. Affordable, clean place, and of course tasty food which else do you require more??

Authentic Tamilian south indian snacks is its identity among all the nearby collegians, sportspersons of the nearby gymkhanas and grounds as well as alumni of matunga colleges. No fancy decor but genuine taste in all the dishes, though, limited in varieties. Homely personal touch of the staff is plus point. Another rare thing- unlimited free servings of accomponiments: chutney and sambar. It's a small place, so many times you need to wait in the mornings and evenings.

One of the oldest in matunga and always lives upto its iconic reputation. You will get unlimited chutney and sambar at this place. Always crowded. Many prefer to stay in the car and place orders and they manage really well in the small seating space they have. Dosas and medu wadas etc are a must. They also have rotating daily specials. All dishes are awesome here. Go for it

Among the best South Indian food options at Matunga, just a minute walk from the Ruia college. This places serves authentic Tamil Nadu platter. Mr. Raja one of the owner gives you vibe from down south. The place is a bit small and has about 10-15 mins of que during peak hours, but its a fair trade for the food.

  • 5/5 Vinit K. 1 year ago on Google
Since 1937 it has been the best place for idli, medu vada, dosas, uttappas, upma, shira, and more south indian dishes with free extra sambar and chatni. They pour these generously till one tells them to stop, hence ask for only what could be completely consumed. Always a satisfying food experience. The place is very small and inconvenient to sit on the two seater side.

A small place serving good south indian food. The menu is limited to few items as compared to a regular udupi joint, but the food is good, service is quick and not heavy on the pocket. Being small in area, the seating is limited, but owing to the limited items on the menu, the turn around time is fast. The sabudhana wada, masala dosa, neer dosa and coffee can be tried for a tummy fulfilling experience

Manis Lunch Home, located near Ruia College, is a legendary culinary establishment that has been serving the finest authentic South Indian dishes since its inception in 1939. As someone who has been visiting this place since childhood and continues to do so, I can vouch for its unwavering commitment to quality and taste. The food at Manis Lunch Home is nothing short of amazing. Their extensive menu features a wide range of South Indian delicacies, including dosas, idlis, vadas, and uttapams. Each dish is prepared with precision and expertise, delivering flavors that transport you straight to the southern regions of India. One of the standout offerings at Manis Lunch Home is their authentic South Indian filter coffee. Served in traditional steel tumblers and davara, this rich and aromatic beverage is a true delight for coffee connoisseurs. The blend of freshly brewed coffee and frothy milk creates a harmonious balance of flavors that is simply unparalleled. In my opinion, it is one of the best coffees you can find in Mumbai. Due to its popularity and reputation, Manis Lunch Home can get crowded at times, especially during peak hours. However, the wait is always worth it. The bustling atmosphere adds to the charm of the place, and the efficient staff ensures that the service remains prompt and friendly.

Go here for food. Don't expect fancy interiors or fancy service - this is a lunch home and not a restaurant! Order anything off the menu and it'll come to you hot and fresh in minutes - and it will be DELICIOUS. When you're done eating, you'll feel pressured to leave, as there's more food to be made for other customers! Perfect place for a snack or meal where the focus is on the food and not company or ambience.

Mani’s lunch home It is located near Ruia College. It is one of oldest restaurant in Matunga. My grandmother used to visit this place, during her college days. I am visiting this place from childhood. Idli is soft and fresh, medu vada are crispy served with chutney and sambhar. There have variety of uttapam and dosa. They have special paper dosa, which is paper thin and crispy. I love the food served here

Hard to find a seat, but if you do, it's gonna be great. Fast service and you are well taken care of. The people are warm and really fast. You sit based on the number of people and any empty seat can be taken by a stranger if present. A queue is always expected but worth the wait, because it's not expensive yet the taste is great!.A second visit will be a must.

Have been coming here since a while now. The quality has suffered but it is okay. They have kept the prices down throughout these years. Don't get me wrong, the food is good enough. Perhaps the hygiene could be improved a bit. The ambience remains from yesteryears as the place has been kept intact. Tables are on sharing basis and food is served quickly. This is for those quick south indian bites or a cup of coffee. The place is mostly crowded and it might be a while till one gets a table.

Mani's lunch home is an old favourite of mine from when I was a student at Ruia college. Their prices were affordable, the idlis nice and soft and the best part was the delicious chutney that you could have unlimited amount of. I am not ashamed to say I have taken one plate of idli and had five portions of chutney. As a student every Paisa counts. We visited recently and ordered food in the car as I had an injured leg. The idlis were still soft , the chutney as yummy..the car service was not that fast but it was clean and efficient. I have forward nostalgia for Mani's.! Go if u want a quick south Indian bite

Simple delicious south Indian food and no fancy menu. Zero wastage policy with chutney and sambar in super small bowl but continuous refills. Amazing coffee

Those waiting can start by scoring some vit D outside and slowly sweat their way to the damp of about 300 diners inside, letting off steam under the first fans Bombay saw in the 60's (50's or 70's??).
