The 143 years old Raja bai Towering over the southern end of the city, it was financed by a Mumbai-based cotton businessman, Premchand Roychand. He wanted to build a clock as a tribute to his mother (thus, named Rajabai after her,) and to remind her to take her meals on time.

Rajabai Tower construction was funded by Premchand Roychand. His mother was blind and was supposed to consume her dinner before evening as she followed jain religion. The evening bell of the tower helped her to know the time without anyone's help. Thus it was named after his Mother Rajabai.

It was opened in 1878, and is located within the Bombay University campus in the Fort area. It's height is equivalent to that of a twenty-five storey building and was the tallest structure in Bombay for a long while. It is no longer accessible to the public. Since 2018, it finds mention in the list of World Heritage Sites. It's estimated cost of construction in 2869 - 78 is believed to have been ₹ 5,55,000 a huge sum in those days.

With this review, I have praise but also a gripe, which is why one star has been docked. First and foremost, this is a remarkable clock tower which is one of the most memorable of Mumbai's many colonial-era edifices. The carving on its exterior is extra ordinary and the whole thing is an elaborate Victorian Gothic fantasy. You can get a good look at it from outside the gate or anywhere around the Maidan and it's an impressive sight. Now to the gripe. You are no longer allowed to climb it or even take pictures from around the base. The security officers strictly enforce this rule. In recent years India has been worried about stagnant tourist numbers and this sort of thing is part of the reason. As part of a World Heritage site, Rajabai should be open to world travellers.

The tower looks like it is vibrating, but that’s only because it’s undergoing repair work. It’s not actually vibrating guys lol.

The Rajabai Clock Tower is another legacy of the British Empire in India. It's a Victorian era clock tower built in the store of Gothic revival, most evidently at the apex which is the epitome of a Gothic tower. This tower is close to several landmarks of Mumbai and it's worth a detour if in the area. There’s supposed to be a chime every 15 minutes, but there’s seems to be renovation working ongoing as there’s lots of scaffolding around the tower and I couldn’t get into the gated area of the clock tower. Magnificent tower, but shame I couldn't get closer. From the outside, the terraces and matching towers with the open staircases look beautiful.

South Mumbai’s famous clock tower, Rajabai Clock Tower stands erect in the close vicinity of the Mumbai High Court. The tower received its exquisite beauty through the imagination of Sir Gilbert Scott and is magically embellished with ancient figures and features. Here, the artist introduced a blend of both Venetian and Gothic architectural styles. Stained glass windows and a big clock right on its forehead completes its allure. This clock is known to play a melodious tune at predefined time intervals and is quite visible from a distance. It remained as the tallest edifice of the town until the next colossal structure marked its prominence.

Rajabai Clock Tower is an 85-metre tall tower in the Fort Campus of the University of Mumbai. Premchand Roychand, a businessman and a stockbroker, financed its construction. And Sir George Gilbert Scott designed it. The tower resembles London’s Big Ben, and it is among the tallest structures in the area. It chimes every fifteen minutes. The construction began in 1869, and it was completed by 1878. The access to the inside of the tower is closed to visitors, but you can admire the architecture and detailed stonework from outside. The tower has one of the best stained-glass works in the city. And the architecture is a blend of Venetian-Gothic style. The tower also has 24 small statues, portraying the life of common people during the British rule.

Visiting Rajabai Clock Tower was a delightful experience. The stunning Gothic architecture and intricate detailing on the tower were truly impressive. The panoramic views of Mumbai from the top were breathtaking. However, be prepared to climb several flights of stairs to reach the observation deck. Overall, it's a must-visit for history and architecture enthusiasts, offering a glimpse into Mumbai's colonial past.

The Rajabai Tower is a clock tower in South Mumbai India. It is in the confines of the Fort campus of the University of Mumbai. It stands at a height of 85 m. The tower is part of The Victorian and Art Deco Ensemble of Mumbai, which was added to the list of World Heritage Sites in 2018. The 142-year-old Rajabai Clock Tower in South Mumbai’s Fort area, located inside University of Mumbai’s campus, is iconic for its Victorian-Gothic architecture. Built in 1878 by architect Sir George Gilbert Scott, it was commissioned by businessman Premchand Roychand as a tribute to his mother, hence the name. For years, it was the city’s tallest structure, at 285 feet. Rajabai Clock Tower has long been a beacon of the Oval Maidan precinct, a visual delight, and a valuable piece of history for the city. After years of darkness, the Rajabai Clock Tower finally glowed up in 2021, literally. I travel and write. Be a part of my journey @shikhaanair on Instagram

Rajabai Tower was contructed in 1878 and is a part of the Fort campus of University of Mumbai. It is modelled after Big Ben and is equal to height of 25 storey building. The architecture is Venetian in nature and is amazing to look at. It perfectly fits amongst the various heritage site building in the Fort region. It used to chime 16 tunes in its time. It is well preserved and still looks the part.

Modelled after Big Ben in London and designed with a fusion of Venetian and Gothic styles, the Rajabai Clock Tower was once the tallest structure in Mumbai. Overlooking the Oval Maidan, the clock tower used to play tunes of “Rule Britannia”, “God Save The King” and more than 10 tunes during the British Raj days. Now the clock tower chimes only one tune. Interesting and iconic clock tower of the city.

Rajabai Tower is next to the Mumbai High Court and University of Mumbai. According to me it is situated in the most scenic part of Mumbai. A mix of old Bombay with the new. This area of Bombay houses UNESCO World Heritage Art Deco buildings and the lovely maintained Oval Maidan a green area in the otherwise commercial city.

It would have been more interesting if the clock tower hadn't been obscured by scaffolding. However, such items are occasionally required for repairs or cleaning. Because it was built by the British, our tour guide compared it to Big Ben. The architecture is truly one-of-a-kind, combining Gothic and French styles. The tower is impressive at 250 feet tall. It's well worth a look.

The Rajabai Tower is a clock tower completed in 1878 and stands tall at a height of 85 meters. The tower was named after its donor, Premchand Roychand's mother, Rajabai. The tower was designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott, who was a well-known British architect of his time. The style of architecture used in the construction of the tower is a fusion of Venetian and Gothic styles. The tower is built using locally sourced yellow Kurla stone and is adorned with intricate carvings and sculptures. The Rajabai Tower houses a clock, which was designed and built by the famous clockmaker, Sir Frederick William Stevens. The clock is one of the largest in India, with a diameter of 3.5 meters. The clock faces are made of opal glass and are beautifully illuminated at night. The tower also houses the University of Mumbai's library, which was once considered the largest library in Asia. The library contains over 600,000 books, including rare manuscripts and valuable documents. The tower's central location and close proximity to the university have made it a popular landmark in Mumbai. Over the years, the Rajabai Tower has undergone several renovations and restorations. In 2016, the tower was officially recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Today, the tower is a popular tourist attraction and a symbol of Mumbai's rich history and heritage.

The total cost of construction came to ₹555000, a large amount of money for the time period. A portion of the total cost of construction was donated by Premchand Roychand, a wealthy broker who founded the Bombay Stock Exchange on the condition that the tower be named after his mother Rajabai. Premchand Roychand's mother was blind and as a staunch follower of Jain religion, she was supposed to consume her dinner before the evening. Legend says that the evening bell of the tower helped her to know the time without anyone's help. The tower was closed to the public after it became a frequent spot for those attempting to commit suicide.

I felt discriminated by denied entry rights. Also securities did not explain anything, it's just look like they want to do no work, just sit and browse phones.
