This is THE PLACE to visit for authentic South Indian food in Matunga, probably the best of the area among Anand Bhuwan, Mysore Cafe, Cafe Madras, Arya Bhavan and Ramashray. There are a lot of speciality items like Special Ulundu Dosa, Mysore Set Dosa, Mysore Bun, Rava Adai, etc. Donne Idli & Benne Dosa deserve a special mention. Each of the item is a delight to eat.Truly a South Indian food lovers delight. Special mention to serving staff 'Ravi' who is very friendly and always gives good recommendations. There are two dining areas, and on weekends both are full. Visit early in morning to enjoy with less crowd.

I was waiting to visit only remaining south indian eatery left amongst other south special eateries. located at Maheshwari udyan ,Matunga circle restaurant is one of the oldest restaurants in Matunga. We went with a high hopes and ordered Rasam Idli- Vada. Rasam was very tasty, idli Vada was normal but not great. one thing I didn't like that they keep some dishes like daal vada, bun puri, batata wada etc pre fried. so after ordering daal vada , waiter brought it after reheating it in a microwave. Seriously !! They use microwave to heat ready dishes like dal vada & some others as well. Not acceptable. mysore masala dosa was crispy and tasty. well balanced flavours , it was without garlic. Dahi vada was served with some bundi on it. Good taste , nothing special about it. Filter coffe was great in aroma and tasted well. They also keep varieties of packaged food like Malpua, Mysore pak, banana wafers, ladoo, shev, rasam powder, sambar powder for selling. even we bought banana wafers. pricing is moderate. staff is very polite and explains everything about dish if asked. overall mixed experience but too many dishes. worth visiting at least one time.

Even A decade later, Anand Bhavan is still the same - simple, pocket friendly, fantastic tasting south indian cuisines. They are selling south Indian pan even after these years. Kudos to them for maintaining the quality and old vibe.

A quite old and famous restaurant for South Indian food in Matunga. Tried their neer dosa and pineapple sheera and both tasted okay-ish nothing special as such worth mentioning. Their taste and quality has gone down a bit over the years. Currently there are multiple options available nearby serving the same menu which are more pocket friendly and better in taste as well. Overall I would rate it 3/5 for the breakfast menu and classic filter coffee.

I am a big time foodie and also a biggest food critic. But trust me when ever I visit this place I call for not less than 5-6 dishes. And I absolutely enjoy each and every dish right upto the last bite. Its so pocket friendly that I love it even more .

NOT at all Customer Centric! The place was crawling with cockroaches and rats, because there was no proper cleaning done to the place and the staff is very ignorant. The food was okay nothing special, and the service was very bad. The place is very small and very dirty.

visited this place many times since the 1960s. i lived near by so i've been here many times. there are many 'udupi' restaurants in this locality. for me at least anand bhavan is the best - the closest to home-cooked food you can get in the Kings Circle area. rates are reasonable. attached pics of vada-sambar and rava-masala.

Amongst the seemingly countless eateries in Matunga East specializing in delicacies from the south, Anand Bhavan is one of the classics, and that's where we popped in for dinner tonight. After a bit of a wait we got a table, and a quirk of this place is the tables are shared, and that's what happened with us, albeit briefly, as a gentleman took the lone empty seat for a quick bite. The funny part here is after snacking he drained his glass of water, and then picked up mine and drained it too!! Inspite of me already having taken a few sips!! Now about the food, I started off with my all time favourite, Medu Vada which is served here with Rasam and White Coconut Chutney. The vada was fantastic, hot and crispy, the rasam was decent, could've been spicier while the chutney was a little below par. Up next were Pasarettu and Tuppa Pola. The pasarettu was with onion stuffing, and touch too stiff, would've preferred it to be softer. The pola looked similar to an uttapam, though was almost sweet, being cooked in ghee as the name suggests. This was followed by Set Dosa, the name originating from it's format of 3 set pieces per serving, though here only 2 pieces are served. Soft and spongy, served with amazing coconut chutney, I really enjoyed this one. I then ordered their Veg Cutlet, since some of the more fancier items such as Bun Puri, Biscuit Roti weren't available. The cutlet didn't disappoint, and the accompanying Khatta Chutney was top notch. For desserts we opted for Phirni and then for Rabdi, the former is the best I've ever had, and the rabdi was equally impressive, super thick, appropriately sweet, totally unexpected from an udipi. To sum up then, you would struggle to find a better VFM place, us 3 ate to our fill, and for what we paid, a more upscale restaurant might offer you no more than a couple of starters. While one can't expect a posh layout, richer ambience and so on, the taste and quantity will compare to, and probably even better, any high end restaurant. The service being lightning fast as well, your meal will rarely go north of 45-60 min. A must visit for many items which aren't available at most other udipis.

Best hotel for quick bite. Pure veg restaurant. Located at prime spot road touch location. Famous for south indian cuisine. Taste is awesome must visit. Rates are normal pocket friendly restaurant. I was deeply disappointed because they accept only cash payment, now a days no one caary cash in digital world. Have limited parking for bike.

Highly overrated place. Ordered puri bhaji and Masala Dosa. Couldn't eat the whole thing of the either because of the bad taste. They served regular Dosa's masala as the bhaji. Very dissapointed. Maybe it's time not to relate quality with legacy.

Usually a phenomenal place. And I've been coming to Anand Bhavan for years now. Authentic South Indian/Amchi snacks. But today one of the servers Kartik i think took an abject dislike to our table :p. First he brought medu Vada Sambhar which wasn't crisp - pre dipped in sambhar. On first bite we told him listen pl charge us for it but we can't eat this. Pl bring medu vada crisp and hot sambhar. So then he made us wait for 20m saying now it's being made. And all other dishes that came save Bun Puri were terrible. The masala dosa my driver and cook cdnt even finish - something wrong in it. Sambhar was out of the world. Medu Vada was ok what came later. Also a lot of commotion today and some shouting kinds in kitchen /maybe Sunday rush so happens. We didn't wait for even coffee or buy all kinds of gun powder chutney and other pickles like we usually do. We just ran. Maybe bad day for Kartik. But the place is still cult and I would request everyone reading it to still give it a shot. Things to be had at Anand Bhavan: 1. Khotto Idli (in jackfruit patta) 2. Medu Vada (not dipped in sambhar) order sambhar in bowls on side 3. Masala dosa (all other masala dosa we saw were mindblowing looking. But ours was small and odd). So don't order this from Kartik is our learning lol 4. Bun Puri or as amchi call it Bhubhus. 5. Biskoot roti (today wasn't there but it's a speciality dish). Hope the management reads it and takes this coming from a person who loves Anand Bhavan and this cuisine and not some disgruntled customer. Pranay

This place is one of the best by far for some good simple authentic South Indian food. One thing i found good is they provide good quality and quantity in food which makes it totally worth!! I tried out some of their speciality Khotto idli (5/5) : These idlis are made in jackfruit leaves and which is why they have a different nice smell and taste from those leaves. It was served with red coconut chutney and sambhar. It is not like regular idlis these are not fluffy but tastes better with sambhar. Veg Thali (5/5) : Though it may look simple and not fancy but thats the beauty of these south indian food. Eventhough the French beans sabji might looked just boiled but it was not.It was well cooked and sauted in oil with coconut and other spices. The roti was soft, with mouth watering rasam and sambhar. Also the sweet kheer had the right amount of sweetness. Neer dosa (5/5) : Another simple yet tasty dish is this.It is soft and melts in your mouth. Best tastes with jaggery. Overall Food - 5/5 Ambience - 4/5 Value for money - 5/5

Anand Bhavan is a restaurant par excellence . The delicacies and items which are available and they serve are traditional south indian of manglorean origin. One must relish the filter coffee which is fantastic and has distinct taste. The Idlis, Dosas, utappas and other items are delicious and lovely. The farshan n sweet meat esp mysore pak, pooran poli, banana wafer are something you taste once you are bound to indulge in it for the rest of your life. Simplicity is the hallmark of Anand Bhavan in terms of ambience but the food items are incomparable.

Anand bhawan is an old south indian food point. It's famous corner to foodies around the town. While my visit i waited for 5 minutes as it was crowded on Sunday morning. I ordered mysore masala, Ginger lemon to drink amd later followed by south indian filter coffee. O enjoyed my food within ₹190. Food was sumptuous enjoyed well. This joint i visited 10 times so far to eat. I always serves nice meal in budget way. Do visit and enjoy your time well spent. Budget friendly, well behaved staff and hygiene enough. I am not giving 4* due to washroom is missing which is a big mess for anyone who goes and couldn't find one such in a need.

All items are good except Gulab Jamun which we expected was not fresh on the basis of taste & informed that to the manager... Crowded place in the morning... Service was a little bit slow ... No cards, no digital payment... Only cash is accepted here... Enjoy 😋

Lack of importance towards customers satisfaction. Once I was a big fan of this place but due to unprofessional behavior of the owner, I would not recommend this place as one can smell an attitude rather than being welcomed by the owner. Food taste has drastically changed and also the quality has been deteriorated. Coffee taste cannot be beaten by any other restaurants around, but I wouldn't sacrifice other things for the best coffee taste I can get in Matunga.

There no no doubt about food quality it is amezing. Specially I love coffee of Anand Bhavan.. Once you smell is you feel refreshing.. Just wan share my thoughts. During this pendamic going on, we visited Anand Bhavan. we really felt that they care for peoples who came to the resturant. They had done two things differently, for young crowd you can take on ground floor and the people form old age on 1st floor. And once you reach in restaurant you hve to sanatizer and check your body temperature.. then you can go ahead, now days no one does this kind of services.we have visited few more restaurants they are only for earning money they are not care for human beings.. But still peoples are going there.. I suggest better to visit Anand Bhavan and share your experience.. I really feel happy once you seen this kind of services and care for the customers.. So visit Anand Bhavan and share your experience.. And enjoy delicious South Indian food...

Nostalgia hits you when you go to such places. And then you get the authentic food to top it all up. Also the mixture or farsan is the best thing you can take home. Must visit for yummy idlis.

Good food & Good service. Atleast you get place to eat. Good for Jain food and they do keep lot of snacks for take away. Those snacks are also good. Sheera is one item you can try other than routine south indian dishes.

Food has always been top notch and hasn't changed for decades now. This is great. The ambience has not changed for many decades. This not great though.

The best dosa ever had! It's the Spl. Undulu dosa comes with podi chutney and butter(unprocessed) which tastes heavenly along with their classic coconut chutney and sambar. Do try their pineapple sheera

OVERRATED. Ordered Rava Mysore Masala and Onion Uttapa which was priced more than and average. It wasn't even worth half of its actual price. Waiters were rude, told the owner about the food and behaviour, he wasn't bothered. Also they forcefully asked us to share the tables during peak of COVID. Highly Disappointed.

Had a quick snack in south Indian restaurant… Food are delicious… should try the sambar vada as well.. Waitresses are quite good and weird why they are barefoot … It’s crowded area for evening snack.. Price are reasonable and its around king circle with other restaurants as well..

The food is finger licking good. The price appropriate. The ambience can be improved. But definitely much better than all its neighbouring South Indian hotels

Matunga area known for its famous South Indian restaurant has also this place called Anand Bhavan. Unfortunately was a great disappointment. Ordered Mysore masala dosa for brunch, was cold and masala was very average. Forgettable sambhar. I could have keep up with the below par food which lacked quality ingredients for the price but damn the place is unhygienic. Spoons I got had previously used food scraps over it. Plates wiped with dirty clothes. It's a nightmare if you care a little about hygiene.

Best south indian food at affordable rates. Never disappoints. Be ready to listen, sorry the dish is over if you go post 8PM

I recently visited Anand Bhuvan restaurant and ordered their special menu , ulundu dosa. Unfortunately, the experience was far from pleasant. The dosa was excessively sour and over-fermented, making it nearly inedible. Additionally, the sambar served with it was disappointingly runny. This meal was a complete waste of money, and I left the restaurant unsatisfied. I hope the restaurant takes this feedback seriously and works on improving the quality of their dishes for future customers.

Unique south Indian dishes which you will not get in Mumbai like manglore buns, biscuit roti, chana poha, and much more

One of the finest South Indian restaurants in Mumbai. Their Filter Coffee and Dosa are a heaven-worthy combination. Their Set Dosa is highly recommended. The staff are quick in service and humble in nature .

It's mostly very crowded and I don't like too much noise when I eat so atmosphere has gotten only 3 star. It's a pocket friendly and tasty option. Can definitely grab a quick bite or two. Has washbasin but no washroom!!! Staff is Veryyy helpful and extremely quick with service as they are almost always busy and full..

Authentic food they serve here, we have ordered almost everything because we were in a large group. The taste was very nice but they will not join the table so you have to sit separately if you are coming in a large group also. The price for the food was also good not expensive. Sometimes you may face queue over there due to the large crowd.
