Very famous. There was a long line to get in on Saturday morning. Went around 9am. Parcel service is good and efficient. The joint is quite popular with many Maharashtrian cuisine places not as crowded as this one. I found the food as quite average. Sabudana Khichadi - I can perhaps prepare a better one myself. Misal - it was decent however they don’t serve Pav with it. Even if you request one. The only option is Puri. Which honestly is not the best option to have with misal. You cannot customize the misal. Again a bummer. So all in all an average place. Perhaps Aaswad next door is much better though slightly more expensive.

Good place to munch some Maharashtrian Snacks and Full Lunch... Speciality is Piyush, Sabudana Vada & Misal (they don't serve pav with Misal). Try Misal with Puri here, it tastes good. 50 years Legacy must visit...

Highly popular and historic snack joint located in Dadar serving authentic Maharashtrian food! Visited this place on a weekday afternoon and you won’t believe we had to wait for almost 30 minutes which tells about its popularity. While waiting we bought some farsan, mango theccha and Piyush! We ordered Puri and rassa bhaji, and puris were very crispy. Bhaji had a tinge of coconut but tasted good. Sabudana vada is the famous dish here and lives up to the expectations. Dahi vada here is simply simple, amazing and must try. Dahi misal here has poha which gives it a different yet amazing taste. For drinks we had Piyush and Sol kadhi, which were great. Service here is very fast. And prices are reasonable or rather cheaper. Hopefully On our next visit we will try thali peeth. Overall it’s a perfect place to grab amazing snacks and is a must visit place.

Dishes tried: Patti Samosa & Mattar Pattice Patti Samosa was the USP of this place but I was disappointed as it was too greasy, bland and the green peas were not properly cooked. I guess this dish has lot its original taste over time. Mattar Pattice was excellent and compensated for the disappointment of the previous dish. The outer patty was soft and the filling was well cooked & fulfilling. I loved the peanut chutney with it. This place is popular so it is always buzzing with people. So be patient to find a seat and the staff is proactive to help you find a space.

On Sunday morning, my friend and I decided to visit the iconic “Prakash”, known for its traditional and authentic breakfast. Despite the Sunday rush, we were fortunate enough to secure a cozy spot for ourselves. we ordered Sabudana wada, Thali Peet, and Batata wada, all accompanied by a lip-smacking peanut chutney. While the Sabudana wada and Batata wada were satisfying, it was the Thali Peeth that stole the show with its incredible flavour. To complete our meal, we decided to try the refreshing Piyush, which did not disappoint. For anyone seeking an authentic Maharashtrian food experience, I recommend paying a visit to Prakash. Note: They ONLY accept Cash.

I go here very often with mostly travellers and foreigners. It offers amazing local delicacies but mostly snacks in small portions allowing you to try more. I'd recommend everything on their menu. It's been fantastic on the stomach and the staff is really nice. It's light on your pocket leaving you happy.

We were in Mumbai in dadar area for two days and came across this name for authentic maharashtrian food. Went today for lunch in group of six Small place but serves amazing stuff, great service and taste at extremely affordable price. Loved their Dahi misal in particular , of course we tried as many as 8 items and all were good

One of the best authentic maharashtrian breakfast centres in Mumbai . Must try this restaurant if you are in Dadar area . This one is near Shivaji Park. You can go by cab from Dadar west station area or by walk if you are fitness freak😬. You must try different breakfast items if you are not maharashtrian. My friends /colleagues from North and south India loved the menu.

Prakash is a great option at Dadar to have breakfast. They serve portion size that is admissible to only one person. So this is a good option for a solo foodie. Their Kokum Sharbat, Sabudana Vada and Khichadi are an amazing option for breakfast. Also they serve Satwik Misal which is non spicy.

Well, the place is pretty famous for breakfast. Went for breakfast today, and there was queue. The road is well dug up and it’s difficult to walk. Place is buzzing with action and offers traditional maharashtrian food. Good food, good service, however, the hype around is far too much. Tried poha, sabudana vada, puri bhaji, misal. Poha is but dry, sabudana vada is good, misal is good. Service is extremely quick but can be a bit warm.

Each dish was not only delicious but beautifully presented. The attention to detail in every aspect truly made this breakfast spot stand out. Kothambir wadi is just amazing here you gotta try it. Battata wada is just delicious and melts in your mouth. The ambience is a bit fancy but the rates are very REASONABLE. Loved the missal it’s delicious, nice and spicy. The sabudana kichdi was just okay. But the peanut chutneys are amazing. Note the peanut chutney is extra cost of 13 Rs.

A wonderful place to satisfy your hunger especially while fasting. A place to enjoy the delicacy of Maharashtrian food and quick munchies. As soon as you hear " PRAKASH ", first thing that strikes your mind is its Sabudana Vada and Chutney. It's (sabudana vada) tempting aroma won't let you settle for just one plate. A must visit restaurant for all the food lovers and non foodies too, I can bet that you won't regret after visiting.

Prakash - Est. in 1971, is a 50-year-old Restaurant situated at the heart of Dadar. This place has been famous for serving its authentic Maharashtrian dishes for decades and comes in the top choice among the people, not just in Dadar but all over Mumbai. And the best part is, it's very budget-friendly & worth every single penny.

This 70 year old eatery specialising in maharashtrian breakfast items is located in the heart of Mumbai, Dadar. The food is no doubt authentic and tastes a 10/10. One should definitely try the whole menu but do not miss out on Piyush, Thalipeeth and Sabudana Vada. You might get a little slow service and might have to share your table with other waiting customers, but that is only during rush hours as people line up long for good food. All this is worth, and sharing the table is like a tradition in all maharashtrian breakfast eateries. Highly recommended!

Hands down one of the best Misal I've ever tried! I wasn't so keen on having misal to be honest, because of all the extremely watery, oil overloaded misals I've had before. But the one served here at Prakash was absolutely delicious, perfect consistency and not too oily! ❤️💯 Other delicacies we tried were: Sabudana Wade, Thalipeeth, Alu wadi, Piyush, Kokam Sherbet. All of which were scrumptious and totally made our Saturday morning breakfast! 🤗 10/10 Recommend!

Prakash Upahar Kendra has been the part of of many residence of Dadar (West) for many years. Even after Prakash, recently relocating at a new premise, the bond still remains. Owned by Joglekar family, Prakash has maintained the food quality and expression of authentic Maharashtrian cuisine. Sabudana Vada, Batata Puri, Vegetarian Samosa, Misal are some of the must try dishes of Prakash. Piyush is the must drink for those who have a sweet tooth. The chutney that accompanies with these delicacies is as tasty as the dishes themselves. I have seen people ordering extra chutney and relishing it a lot. Another chutney normally served with Veg. Samosa, made with curd and pickled green chilly, is also very delicious. An outlet for over the counter sell of sweets is also attached with the restaurant. I remember my first visit to Prakash many years ago as a primary school student. The tastes of most of the Maharashtrian delicacies available here have been the same ever since. Even the waiters and many of the service-men have been mostly the same for all these years and such loyalty is quite rare. It is astonishing and very nice to still see the ordering and other operations happening in clear Marathi language even when the area has been getting more and more cosmopolitan. If you are a foodie and would want to taste nice and authentic Marathi cuisine, Prakash Shakahari Upahar Kendra, Dadar (West) is the best eatery you can think of... Dr. Prasad Akolkar

All the 3 dishes we ordered, had different chutneys/side. Thaalipeeth had Masala Dahi, Sabudana Vada had Groundnut Coconut chutney & Kothimbir vadi had imli chutney!! Loved all 3 dishes. Although the kothimbir vadi might seem bit different than other kothimbir vadi you would have tried. Sabudana Vada- just perfect! Thaalipeeth was also delicious. 😍 The beverages were a little bit disappointing though, bcoz both of them were having a strong flavour which was affecting overall taste. Solkadhi had a strong flavour of Ginger & Piyush had extra Nutmeg. 😅 But both were quite refreshing to have after masaledaar dishes 😋 All in all, a must visit place to delight in different traditional Maharashtrian food - at affordable prices. 💯

This has to be my most favourite Maharashtrian restaurant. Love 'Prakash' for the simplicity, quick service and of course the brilliant mouth watering items on the menu. You must check out the Misal, the Piyush and the Poha on offer. A typical Maharashtrian may argue that making these dishes isn't a big deal, but then, please enjoy these dishes once. My personal favourite is the 'Batata Puri' which is an XL version of Sabudana wada. Have been visiting the place for 20 years now and they have maintained the original taste . Thank You for being part of my growing up! Cheers!

Visited after a long time. As a resident of Dadar, used to visit occasionally in the past. One of the best places for Sabudana Wada, Thalipeet, Minal and other Maharashtrian Dishes and Piyush

Located close to Shivaji park and Shivsena Bhavan on Gokhale Road Dadar West this is quite an old establishment that attracts lot of crowd. They serve limited Maharashtrian cuisine. The place still looks and has make up of old restaurant from 70s. The portion size is small and taste is average. We tried veg Pulao it came with small amount of korma not sufficient and was spicy. Food was average Tasting and over priced. They sell mung, methi and Dinka Che ladu and also mawa barfi and kesari peda, gahar barfi, Lauki burfi, aale paak and some pickles. Taste - 3/5 Service - 4/5 Ambience - 2/5 needs some makeover Quality - 3/5 Value for money - 3/5 Parking Space - Not Available Free WiFi - Not Available

It is near to the Dadar Railway station thats best for commuters using public transport. Prices are nominal. The best I liked was Mattha Misal....before ordering you need to say that you need less spicy if you dont eat spice...because its real spicy. Kharwas was okay not that great and tried Amla drink which was also okay as its nothing but they use amla syrup and mix it with water nothing special.

Snacks are great. Main lunch / dinner items like thali etc are over rated. If the improve items besides snacks as well, it will be great. Overall a good experience and absolute value for money, but some things are very over rated here.

Lovely place for vegetarian fare from Maharashtra. Thalipeeth, solkadi, kothimbir wadi, Puri, bhakri, all great! Including the accompaniments. They also have kharwas. The service, ambience, all ace! They have a separate vrat/upvaas menu as well.

For Maharashtrian food, Prakash is a very reputable and historic location. I had high expectations because I saw a lot of YouTube videos before visiting this location. I ate some of their renowned misal. It was decent; I'll give it a 4 out of 10. Many locations have recognisable tastes in food. There is a lot of chiwda in the misal. Taste was quite simple nothing exceptional. I tried the tasteless batata vada. I recommend Piyush. It was outstanding. I no longer believe food bloggers and videos on YouTube that are related to food after visiting this location.

We went here on 8th January, 2023 I didn't see any sign for Only Cash but everyone was paying in cash only The atmosphere is okay and there is table sharing We ordered sabudana wada, alu wadi/Patra, misal Puri, piyush & coffee. The coffee was Nescafe and a bit too bitter for my liking and no amount of sugar helped it. The piyush was too sweet for my liking, people with a sweet tooth would enjoy. The misal & Puri are sold separately but was quite good & authentic. The alu wadi was a bit sweet but good too. The highlight was the sabudana wada with peanut chutney (this is probably served with most snacks here). Crispy and the taste was fantastic. Definitely recommend. Will go again to try other dishes. 4/5.

Good spot around Dadar if you’re looking for quick Maharashtrian lunch. We had Sabudana Wada, Misal, Thalipith and their Kokam Sarbet. Note : Their Misal is different and is not served with Pao.

Prakash Shakahari Uphaar Kendra in Dadar, Mumbai is a delightful haven for those seeking authentic Maharashtrian cuisine and snacks. This iconic eatery has been a culinary institution for decades, and it continues to uphold its reputation for serving mouthwatering traditional dishes. The first thing that strikes you at Prakash is the warm and welcoming ambiance. The decor exudes a classic charm, and the staff's friendliness is exceptional. But what truly sets this place apart is its delectable Maharashtrian fare. The menu is a treasure trove of regional delights, offering an array of classics like Misal Pav, Vada Pav, Poha, and Sabudana Khichdi. The flavors are nothing short of remarkable, with a perfect blend of spices and freshness that tantalizes the taste buds. One must not leave without trying their iconic Misal Pav, a fiery yet flavorsome curry served with pav bread. The Vada Pav, often referred to as the "Indian burger," is another must-try, with its deep-fried potato fritter served inside a bun. These staples are complemented by the savory Poha, a popular breakfast option, and the comforting Sabudana Khichdi. The snacks at Prakash Shakahari Uphaar Kendra are equally impressive. The Batata Wada and Sabudana Vada are crispy and delightful, perfect for snacking. Their Thalipeeth, a multigrain flatbread, is a unique and healthy choice. In conclusion, Prakash Shakahari Uphaar Kendra is a gem in Dadar, Mumbai, for anyone craving authentic Maharashtrian cuisine. It encapsulates the essence of Maharashtra's culinary heritage with a diverse range of dishes that are both scrumptious and soul-satisfying. The affordable prices and the rich flavors make it a go-to spot for locals and tourists alike.

This is oldest eatery in Dadar delivering consistently tasty and authentic Maharashtrian food for decades. Prakash is the name synonimous with quality and innovative Maharashtrian snacks. Batata Wada, Sabudana Wadi, Kothimbir Wadi are some of the many items that are fan-favorites in here. Service is quick, efficient and accurate. Uncles waiting the tables were wearing pretty Pink uniforms with clean White bottoms. Seating is congested and you need to focus on priorities i.e eating and get out as soon as you are done as many people are waiting behind you. So, you should not be expecting 'a lot can happen over food' experience here. But, you can always order in and have that experience at home. Try Masala Doodh as well. I have been told that it is quite good.

A small place with some amazing and tasty Maharashtrian dishes. They are mainly famous for their beverage Piyush. Other dishes like Sabudana wada, sabudana puri, Misal, Wada Pav are also a must try. & super budget friendly. But do remember that you will have to wait for min. 10-15 mins to get a table and you may also get a sharing table here.

50 year old place is famous for their maharastrian food. I genuinely found it ok considering the hype it has. Pros - You can try Mattha misal which is served with sweet curd. For those who can't eat spicy can try also sabudana wada is worth a try. Cons- 1) Place is always crowded, you may have to stand in queue to get in. 2) They don't accept other forms of transaction. Only cash, which is quite inconvenient 3) Place is comparatively small and noisy.

On my trip to Mumbai, I stumbled upon Prakash Shakahari Upahar Kendra and what a find! As someone not from Maharashtra, the array of vegetarian maharashtrian dishes here was an exciting dive into local flavors. I tried their sabudana vada, misal, thalipith, patra for the first time, and all were deliciously spiced and comforting. It's clear that each dish is made with a lot of love and care with a balance of ingredients, the dishes were new to our palatte so some of us did not like all of them but that's understandable. We also tried their famous piyush, kokam sharbat and Solkadhi. Solkadhi surprisingly was an amazing spicy drink and totally loved that. Piyush was similar to lassi drink and was pretty comforting. The place has a friendly, welcoming vibe, packed with people enjoying their meals. It feels very much like a community hub, with the hustle of excited chatter and clinking dishes. The staff were super helpful in recommending dishes, which added to the warm experience. For any traveler looking to taste authentic Maharashtrian vegetarian cuisine, Prakash Shakahari Upahar Kendra is a must-visit!
