We used to dine-in at Village Tavern Long Grove on numerous occasions up until a few years ago. Yesterday, after a long day in downtown Chicago (where we could have chosen to eat anywhere!!), we decided to support one of our local restaurants...we all had a taste for Village Tavern. We arrived at the restaurant, however had to take our meals to go. Customer friendly...not really, flexible on simple requests (which we were NOT EXPECTING TO GET FOR FREE)...NO...quality/quantity of our 4 meals plus side orders...definitely not worth the outrageous bill of almost $80.00 (yes AND I also included a tip)!! I was looking forward to a delicious 1/2lb Cheeseburger (bun on side & extra pickles). SEE PHOTO..THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT I RECEIVED FOR $15.00...ABSOLUTELY unbelievable!! Beef stew-mostly gravy...broasted chicken-extremely dry...French fries-stale & soggy...fish fry-I was informed by my family who ordered it that the flavor was ok but because we were taking it to go (I had a paralyzed family member with us) they would only give us 2 pieces (for $15.00 "all u can eat if u dine in") so I had to PURCHASE 2 additional pieces of fish because the 2 pieces for $15 were not a sufficient portion for a male!!! See the photo if my 1/2??Lb Cheeseburger EXACTLY how I received it from the restaurant...hmm is it missing anything??? Pickles that I requested, lettuce, tomato...ANYTHING??? SORRY VILLAGE TAVERN OF LONG GROVE...YOU WILL NO LONGER HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO CHEAT THIS FAMILY OUT OF AN "ENJOYABLE, QUALITY MEAL". Choosing to support & use a local business for our dinner last night was a BIG MISTAKE!!

The service was great, the food was good and the atmosphere is old fashioned and comforting. Walking into the Long Grove Village Tavern is like taking a step back in time. Comfort food is served here. The portions are perfect and the food is good. There are not a lot of frills, but if you are looking for a good, filling meal, add this place to your list. The service is friendly and efficient. Is this a high end place to take someone you wish to impress? No. But if you want to take someone to a place that says, "I like being with you", this is that place.

So confused about all these amazing reviews.... My burger was extremely bland, absolutely no flavor. Asked for medium and it was well done. Fries were good but portion size was small. Food was overall disappointing, as the burger was just really really bad. Service was just okay. Wait staff was attentive but spent so much time talking about random stuff, she couldn't remember my order and had to clarify multiple times on what I ordered (my order was easy- a burger/fries). Ambience/vibe is lacking and looks outdated and a bit dingy. I think if the food was good, I wouldn't really care about the decor or the service. But food was not good at all, so all this combined created an unpleasant dining experience. Not interested in going back.

My first visit to this well kept, old tavern and the people listened to me and answered all my questions and served me what I requested in a timely way so I could attend a personal event without missing a beat. Recommended that you go here

Went during Apple Festival and got a table right away. My spiked vodka & apple cider drink wasn't that tasty. I should have just gotten a Kentucky buck. The Apple salad was good with crisp Granny Smith apples, chilled lettuce and bacon. Could have been a real score if they added spiced brown sugared pecans. We shared a very good pulled pork sandwich with a tangy apple bbq sauce. Could have been served hotter. It needed a side of colorful red & green slaw; that would have made the plating better. Overall a good lunch; especially loved seeing the giant white dog out front at an outdoor table.

Established in 1847 and still amazing!!!!! The vibe in this place is something else. Feels like walking back in time. The furnitures, setups, decorations and from back in the days but looks amazingly beautiful. Nice bar area with lot of different cocktails. We tried Saturday night ribs special and was one of the best ribs I’ve had. Definitely recommend this place to anyone who is visiting Long Groove area.

A fun restaurant that has a history that goes back to the mid 19th century. It's in a historic section part of town to visit when you are going out for a bite. The food was really good and the service was pretty good. It was a good value and a nice spot to bring the family.

Went there for dinner for two, was looking for a relaxing dinner and got one. Service was slower, so I was glad I wasn't in a hurry. Beer cooler was broken so draft choices were not available. I ordered the schnitzel and it came with a cream sauce that I would not recommend (picture). Just bad luck this trip. Will try it again.

This is an excellent restaurant. We have been going here for almost 20 years we always had great food and service. They pour a generous drink. The atmosphere is great...the building is one of a kind on the inside and out.

The service was great. These waiters and waitresses were hustling. There was also zero AC running so everyone there was using their menus to fan themselves during their visit. Food was really nothing to rave about. The hamburger is literally just two pieces of bread and patty. I can imagine the cheeseburger would be two pieces of bread, meat and cheese for an extra $2.

We went during Applefest and it was understandably busy but it was hard to get past seeing so many empty tables while we wait for over 45 minutes. The wait staff was very pleasant but unfortunately pretty slow. I personally got the bacon cheeseburger and it was underwhelming to say the least. I don't know why but this is yet another place that sells burgers and they don't use even a pinch of seasoning. I wont say hated it and wont go back but I definitely won't make it my top choice again.

Very friendly atmosphere and small town charm. I chose to eat in the smaller tavern dining area as opposed to the larger dining room or outdoor tables which were also available. I ended up getting a German style dish, breaded fried pork cutlet over curly noodles with a dill cream sauce. It was good but a lot of food and I couldn't eat it all. Reasonable prices, nice setting, not loud. Oldest restaurant in Illinois which is why I selected it. Good service.

I simply love this establishment. I turned 31 earlier this month, and as a child, I used to come here regularly-especially for Christmas festivities. I have a trove of happy childhood memories from time spent in this restaurant, and when I went back there for the first time in a while last weekend, it was like entering a restaurant-sized time capsule. Assuming we're in a permitting financial place, I hope to provide my daughter with the same opportunities for creating happy memories here!

Only drank at the bar, good bourbon and the bartender was good and on top of everything. Smaller bar so one of us had to stand, good atmosphere and great location. We walked over and bought dessert at the connections across the street.

Friday dinner around 7 PM on a beautiful evening. Fun history, the place has been around a long time. Food took way too long to get to us considering they were not very busy. Overall the food wasn't that good unfortunately. Party of 6, 4 adults and 2 older kids. Wait staff was friendly and did well. We wanted to enjoy it overall, but we won't be returning. Mediocre at best across the board. I would head somewhere else.

This is the first time that Village Tavern didn't live up to it's service. My wife and I were immediately seated, considering it was Apple Fest weekend, at a table for 2 along a wall, not bad at all. It did not appear to be that busy. The problem was after 20mins of sitting there a server explained to us that "Pete" was our server but he was busy and this "server" was helping him. Okay, no problem, but now 20mins+ no silverware, no water, nothing. Another female server came by and asked if we needed anything, we said yes we liked to order. Well she disappeared, we were ready to get up and leave when "server" came by and said he overheard our disappointment and asked what can he get us to drink? We placed our drink order and after another 10mins supposedly "Pete" brought our drinks and appetizer plates but never took our food order. A few minutes later another female server came by and took the appetizer plates away, we never had any food yet whatsoever. Finally "server" took our food order, which then took awhile so much I said to my wife 5 or 10 more minutes we walk out. Luckily our food finally arrived. We never knew who "Pete" was. "Server" took care of us and apparently we weren't his table. It felt like we were the table in limbo. They know you're there but nobody knows who your server is. Very disappointed.

WONDERBAR! Had the pork schnitzel and was happily surprised at how delicious it was! Will be back. Highly recommended-great bar service, too!

Love the atmosphere at this historic tavern. Inside has a very authentic feeling and the decore is wonderful, and can be an instant conversation starter for your group. The wait staff were very friendly, attentive and helpful. On this occasion we just stopped in for a few cocktails and sat outside, but hopefully we will be back soon for a meal. If your visiting historic Long Grove anytime soon, be sure to stop in and grab lunch or dinner, you'll enjoy the sights and sounds of the tavern.

My family has been coming to this place for over 25 years for the Friday all you can eat fish fry. My wife and I came in last night expecting to get that, only to learn (after we had finished our plate) that it was no longer all you can eat. $16 for a couple pieces of fish and a handful of fries is kind of ridiculous. The fish still tasted great, but for the price, we will definitely not be back. Our server was nice and quick to offer refills on drinks, and the live piano player as always was a plus.

Came 2 times over the 3-Day strawberry fest for the first time and it was great! We had the signature items and drinks for the festival and the food was great and so was the service. Staff was friendly and service was fast! Definitely going to be back for sure!

This is the oldest restaurant in Illinois, opened by Germans settlers in 1847. It features the old brick fireplace and pubstyle bar called "Presidents bar" with many other antiques such as the grandfather clock and the bank teller's cage. This place is so famous that it is in my book "Oldest Restaurants in the USA and Europe". Try the Amish dishes and all you can eat fish fry. Dr. Diane Holloway Cheney

This place has a rich history and just a nice feel of homeyness. It's really a big place. We went on a Monday and many of the shops were closed, so there were only a few people. The antique shop was closed. Regarding the food, it's really nothing extra ordinary. I had a grilled chicken sandwich with coleslaw, and they mistakenly brought me fries. They were good. My friend had a burger and sweet potato fries. They also have live entertainment on weekends and I'm sure that draws a lot of people.

Found this gem while visiting the Chicago metro area. The food was amazing, the service was top notch, and I got to meet and talk with the new owners. There is a lot of passion for keeping this historic place going strong with classic food with portion sizes leaving you satisfied. Its worth a visit just to see the beautiful bar!

I have been here three times. Each time did not disappoint. Excellent food would be saying less than how good it really is. Beyond excellent and great atmosphere

Really enjoyed the old bar from McCormick Place. Nice decorations for Christmas too. The food was very good. Recommend servers tell customers the Portabella is not actually a Burger, as it is listed with burgers 😉
