Must visit museum in Mumbai to get to know Indian cinema and history behind that. The only concern was that I did not find any infographic in the State language of Maharashtra. You'll at least need 7-8 hours to complete your visit. Currently they are pricing 75 ₹ for entry fee. And it also has a parking facility.

I heard about this museum from social media posts. But I was very happy to go there and see all that. What is old about Indian cinema is still preserved today. The way they cherish those sweet memories of our Indian cinema is amazing. I have never seen such a nice museum and when people see it all they will know how to set up movies in a time where there is no technology but they made so many great movies that we love to watch today. Finally, I would like to advise everyone that if you come to Mumbai, definitely go here once.

Great place in Mumbai, for the people in interest un Indian Movie. Best to visit in the morning because it is having 4 big floors with lot of stuff to explore. Currently the place is less crowded because most people don't know. Taxi drivers also don’t know this place, you need to guide them with the help of Google map. Anyone learning film making must visit this place as you can gain knowledge in Movie history camera, sound, lenses, light, studio, actors, actresses etc.. It's only ₹ 20 for Indians and ₹ 500 for foreigners. It opens at 11am and closes at 6pm in the evening. It remains closed on Monday. You will also see Ambani house in the same road 😀

It was my second time here and it was magical even though it was my second time. If you are a movie lover like me you'll love everything here. It is well curated. Divided within 2 buildings. The first time I visited a ticket was for only 20rs and it was free for students but now tickets are for 75 for everyone. It will take the whole day to properly read and experience everything. I definitely will definitely recommend visiting with your family and kids.

Mesmerizing. Inspiring. Eye opening. Visit to NMIC is a must of you are in Mumbai. Located at peddar road, Mumbai. This is close to Mahalaxmi station (Western Line). When you enter you will have to mention entr details at main gate. Entry ticket a Rs.20 and none for kids. The ticket counter staff is very kind, generous and polite. They will tell you how to navigate. Visitor friendly amenities, long walk. Spare minimum of 2.30 to 4 hour to enjoy it completely. Very good options for photos. Less crowded. Mondays closed. Timing 11 to 6. Canteen in campus from Monday to Friday. There are 2 building one is a bungalow setup (gulshan mahal) and other is a newly constructed building. Water, eatables not allowed. Bag will be deposited at entrance of each building. The campus is full of greenery and lot of photography spots are present. You will have to start with the new bungalow first. There is a washroom before you enter (use it as there will be a long walk). The first building walks you through transition of cinema from silent era to modern Era. Very interesting display of various instruments related to movie making. There are lot of kiosk where you can hear songs, watch movies, try out acting and singing skills. There Isa display of regional movies on first floor. Lot of movie posters to make you feel nostalgic. The second building is spread across g+4 floor. You will have to start your journey from top 4th floor. Washroom and purified drinking water available. Lift as well as escalator available. The 4th and 3rd floor purely talk about technical aspect of movie making. The second floor is child's section lot of interactive things for everyone. Try voice dubbing, sound mixing, motion picture building, vfx kiosk, makeup kiosk, directors chair and much more. The first floor takes you through Gandhi and Movie making set-up. Very inspiring and insightful. The only sad part was there is no souvenir store. It would have been nice to take some memorabilia for this awesome visit. This takes away the one star. Not described each floor as lot of things to experience and learn. Go ahead, a must visit.

A one of its kind museum located inside the Films Division complex in Cumballa Hill. It is India's first cinema museum. Inaugurated in 2019, this museum is under the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India. It is housed in two buildings, the heritage Gulshan Mahal and the New Museum Building. This museum showcases history of Indian cinema through recordings, memorabilia, cameras, equipment etc. It is visited by locals and foreign tourists. The entrance fees are Rs. 75 per Indian adult, Rs. 40 per Indian child, Rs. 500 per foreign adult and Rs. 250 per foreign child. This museum is open from 11 am to 6 pm from Tuesday to Sunday. It is closed on Mondays and Public Holidays. Photography is allowed. Videography is not allowed. Had roamed inside the both the buildings and got a glimpse of the history & modernization of Indian Cinema. This museum is an ideal place for families, children as well as film enthusiasts. It is a must visit and should not be missed.

Beautiful Place. Very Informative and Very Interactive. Takes you to the long journey of Indian Cinema over the times and very well sequenced. Suggestion: A Cafeteria in the premises for Tourist will be an added advantage Feedback: Basement Parking Place in the building needs repairs and maintenance.

Situated in one the richest places of Bombay. This museum not only had antiques and historical artifacts but also offers an experience using tech. A full day is needed to Explore the place. You can also but souvenirs like fridge magnet, mug, book, bags etc As there is hardly any crowd, it helps you to engage with the museum in a better way.

Absolutely must go! It is well created and very thorough. Love every second of it, esp the interactive parts (with machines not people:) You can sit outside and have a little snack, enjoy the trees and breeze. We bought tickets at the counter, no rush. Two adults 150rupees total. Rate: 10/10. If you're a movie/cinema/theater lover like me.. Go Go Go!

Had a fantastic time at the National Museum of Indian Cinema, and I wanted to share my experience. The journey started off smoothly with convenient paid parking available for just 75/- Rs, making it easy for me to begin my visit. Once inside, I felt like I stepped into a cinematic wonderland. The exhibits, artifacts, and memorabilia took me on a captivating journey through the history of Indian cinema. It was amazing to see how this art form has evolved over the years. What I found really cool was the interactive displays that explained the ins and outs of filmmaking. It gave me a better understanding of the hard work and creativity that goes into making the movies we enjoy. The museum did a great job of putting Indian cinema in context with its historical and cultural significance. It made me realize the profound impact movies have on Indian society, and I left with a newfound appreciation for this art form. My only disappointment was that I couldn't spend more time there. There's so much to see and learn, and I'm excited to go back for a longer visit, maybe around 5 hours, to explore everything the museum has to offer. In summary, the National Museum of Indian Cinema is a wonderful experience for both movie enthusiasts and anyone who loves culture. I'm glad I went, and I'm looking forward to returning for a more in-depth exploration of the fascinating world of Indian cinema.

It's spread in a very large area. It has a total of two buildings. The entry ticket to the museum is ₹75/-. The atmosphere is good and peaceful and quiet. The evolution of Indian cinema is there with the evolution of different lens, camera, bulbs, graphics, VFX etc. They accept online payment including UPI as well as cash.

It has 2 buildings to visit i.e. Gulshan Mahal(Pink Bunglow) and Glass Building. The ticket price is 75 rs and its really worth it.

Informative, exhaustive, impressive. Renovated, restored and reopened for public in January, 2019, Film Museum is a delight and a must visit for all cinema lovers. It showcases the evolution of Cinema in general, right from the Lumiere Brothers to the evolution of Indian Cinema, the expansion of it, evolution of Bollywood and Regional Cinema. The museum is divided into the old heritage building which is of two stories and the new structure of 4 stories. While the heritage building an entire route to take to be able to cover the journey of cinema in the right flow, even the new building works better if covered in reverse order of floors, 4,3,2,1. The staff is plenty and cooperative as well. They help around in understanding what you can touch what you can't. A lot of old cameras and artifacts are kept for people and some of it can be used and some can't and this is where the floor staff helps you. The museum has interactive section as well, you can edit a film, record a song, add some vfx and understand how it was done before and how its done now. Its extremely interesting! You need at least about 3 hours if you want to cover the entire museum at length and a good pair of shoes to walk around all of it. If not for anything, you should at least make a visit to marvel at the architecture of the heritage building. It's breathtakingly beautiful and you won't be able to stop yourself from clicking away.

Amazing place – it certainly was for a person like me who isn't very interested in film and cinema. The flawless restoration of Gulshan Mahal just blew my mind off. The estate is beautiful and verdant. The new museum building is swanky with interactive displays like making a stop motion animation and quizzes. It is hands down one of the most interactive museums I've been to. Clean washrooms and quiet surroundings. And it's totally free for college students like me who can produce a valid ID card and gain free entry. But I'd definitely not mind paying for it as well! Only minus point, it hardly has any visitors. Don't get me wrong, having a museum to myself was amazing, but I feel like more people need to experience the marvel that is this museum. Plus, it's fully air-conditioned, and massive, and has countless TVs and AV displays on non stop. So it seems like a waste if there's hardly any visitors. They really need to ramp up their PR and marketing. And one more thing, since it takes hours to explore the museum, a cafeteria section would be appreciated.

What a fabulous place to spend a Sunday perusing history of cinema! A very tastefully done museum with well curated exhibits. The insightful information was a treasure trove for movie buffs of all age groups The best part is the free parking, absence of food court, and very reasonably priced tickets. Only people truly interested in the experience will enjoy....but it should be a mandatory trip for school kids in Mumbai

My recent trip to the National Museum of Indian Cinema left me brimming with excitement and contentment. The experience began on a convenient note with paid parking available for a reasonable fee of 100 Rs, which made my visit all the more hassle-free. Stepping inside the museum was like entering a world of cinematic wonder. The exhibits, artifacts, and memorabilia on display provided a comprehensive journey through the history of Indian cinema. It was truly captivating to witness the evolution of this art form. What struck me the most was the interactive displays that shed light on the intricacies of filmmaking. It added a layer of understanding to the process and artistry behind the movies we know and love. The museum’s ability to contextualize Indian cinema within the broader historical and cultural framework is commendable. It highlights the profound impact of films on Indian society, and I left with a deeper appreciation for this art form. My only regret was that my time at the museum was limited to just a few hours. Given the wealth of information and exhibits, I’m eager to return and spend at least 5 hours exploring everything the museum has to offer. In summary, the National Museum of Indian Cinema is a delightful experience for movie enthusiasts and culture lovers alike. I’m happy I made it to this unique institution and can’t wait to return for a more extended visit to further immerse myself in the fascinating world of Indian cinema.

No one could ever think about a museam in a courtyard of a corporate office. Best place to visit during weakend, guided tour was awesome, understood lot of things about evolution of arts, materials, history. Museum is not like a typical museam it's inside a corporate office building. We can go and paint on walls floors or any sheets papers etc. All the materials are provided by them.so, do visit the museum and have fun in painting. They also have special sessions of a artist doing their painting or artwork.

Excellent exhibits capture many aspects of the magic of cinema. One could easily spend half a day learning about the history and people involved with Indian cinema. You can also see the cameras, sound gear, editing, and other cinema equipment used through the decades, and learn how they operate. A Children's Film Studio lets kids experience aspects of movie making. Note that cell phone photography is permitted (no flash), but taking photos with other types of cameras is strictly prohibited. The website mentions a 4 p.m. film showing, but don't count on this--the projector wasn't working when I visited. My main complaint is that the foreigners admission is Rp. 500; that's 25 times the Indian price! Children up to age 12 are free. Staff recommend starting with the history exhibits in the historic Gulshan Mahal, then proceeding the the four floors of exhibits in the towering glass-walled new building.

Really good if you are a fan of multiple Indian Film Industries. A lot of history even on Industries which aren't currently as big as they once were such as Assamese and Gujarati. 2 buildings for one ticket with the glass building being the more entertainment heavy one and the Pink building being more info heavy. 3rd floor of the glass one had alot to mess about with and the LG floor is great if you are a fan of Satyajit Ray's films as the whole floor is dedicated to him. Other reviews are right about security following you too closely but luckily for us there was a big college group which came in at the same time so it wasn't so bad as the security team was focused on them.

Good mix of display in heritage building and 5 storied dispays in a modern building with glass facade telling narrative of Indian cinema with photos, pictures, video clips, documetaries, old models of cameras and technical equipment, section on Mahatma Gandhiji is impressive, children live interactive displys...in all great job Films Division!

It was huge and really good. Everything was explained in detail and they didn't miss anything. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because it takes time to explore the while place and it's only open till 6pm. So we had to go through the last two parts quickly. Anyways the staff was very friendly and guided us through the whole thing. I was there with my grandparents and it was tough for them to walk but the hospitality made us ignore that fact. Excellent Job at the Museum.

This place is a heaven for cinema lovers. Visiting this place is a crash course on how our history and culture has affected films and vice versa. You will get a macro view on how technological advancements have taken place throughout the 100 year old history of films in India and how it has enhanced the film viewing experience. Anyone who loves to study about Culture, language, history, technology and various art forms should definitely visit this place once. And when you visit it once you will definitely come back because it is such a huge storehouse of our cinema which needs atleast 2 days to finish one round of it. There are two buildings and in total 6 floors which have to be covered and each floor has been segmented on a different era or category. So check the opening hours beforehand and keep atleast 4-5 hours if you want to cover it properly. Entry ticket price for Indians is just Rs. 20 and for foreigners it's Rs 500. It's closed on Mondays and Opening hours are between 11 am to 6 pm

The museum is so well designed (specially the new extension) and so informative. It has everything from the history of bollywood to cinema in general. Their new building has all technology as it has evolved and a lot of interactive exhibits. I really like how well everything is spaced so that it doesn't feel intimidating as museums can. The best section was the virtual reality section, with only interactive exhibits.

Many things are interactive here, like green screen for VFX, photo editor, etc. It is fully air-conditioned + clean + just a 500-900 meter walk from maha Laxmi temple. Also has a fountain. Tickets are also lowly priced(₹20 and ₹500 for foreigners), can come by car, has a canteen. But it remains closed on mondays, but remains open on all other days(may change in future).

Two amazing buildings are contained in this magnificent campus. One is the older mahal, consisting of classical history of Indian Cinema. And the other is a swanky, 4 floor glass facade building inaugurated by our Hon. PM sometime back. Both are amazing places to spend time, learn and just marvel at. Try not to take young kids as they'll probably get bored. The tickets cost Rs.75 at the time I went.

I visited the National Museum of Indian Cinema as a suggestion from a friend. National Museum of Indian Cinema is like a time machine that takes you through the incredible journey of Indian movies, from the olden days to the latest blockbusters. As soon as you walk in, you're surrounded by all things filmy. They've set up the museum in a cool way, guiding you through the different eras of Indian cinema. You'll find old movie posters, vintage equipment, and even videos that explain how movies evolved over time. One of the best parts is how they showcase famous filmmakers, actors, and all those unsung heroes who make movies happen. They've got these interactive screens and videos that spill the beans on how movies are made, and the impact they've had on our society. And if you're into regional cinema, they've got a special section that gives you the scoop on movies from all corners of India. They've recreated an old-school theater right inside the museum. You can actually sit there and feel like you're back in the golden age of cinema. The museum's not just about looking at stuff, though. They've got workshops and events that let you dive even deeper into the world of movies. That's perfect if you're a movie nerd like me or if you're studying film. Just a heads-up, though: while the museum is super cool, it could use some more signs to help you find your way around. Some of the displays could have more info too, so you really get what you're looking at. It is worth talking to people who work there as they're no strangers to film in general. A cursory conversation with the ticket counter person yielded information about the film festivals happening at the museum every April or so. Me being a filmmaker, the person suggested I should apply and was happy to provide any more information. All in all, the National Museum of Indian Cinema is a must-visit if you're even slightly into movies. It's like a big love letter to Indian cinema, and you'll leave feeling like you've just had the coolest crash course in Bollywood and beyond.

The National Museum of Indian Cinema in Mumbai isn't just a museum; it's a time capsule dedicated to the magic of Indian cinema. Spread across two buildings, the museum offers a captivating exploration of Indian film history, from the silent era's flickering beginnings to the dazzling world of contemporary Bollywood. A Walk Through Time: The museum's heart lies in the quaint Gulshan Mahal, where vintage artifacts transport you to a bygone era. Here, you'll encounter curious early filmmaking tools like praxinoscopes and mutoscopes, alongside fascinating exhibits on the birth of Indian cinema. Interactive Delights: The museum caters to modern sensibilities with interactive displays. You can witness the evolution of cameras used by legendary filmmakers, or even step into a recreated set to experience the atmosphere of a bygone shoot. Beyond Bollywood: While Bollywood takes center stage, the museum acknowledges the rich tapestry of regional cinema. Dedicated sections showcase iconic films and personalities from various parts of India. A Few Pointers: The museum can be enjoyed by cinephiles of all ages. However, some might find certain sections, like the children's film studio, a bit underwhelming. Additionally, the information on the impact of Gandhi on cinema could be expanded for a more nuanced perspective. Overall Verdict: Despite minor shortcomings, the National Museum of Indian Cinema is a treasure trove for film enthusiasts. It's a place to celebrate the power of Indian cinema, its influence on society, and the enduring legacy of its storytellers. Recommendation: Whether you're a die-hard Bollywood fan or simply curious about Indian film history, the National Museum of Indian Cinema is definitely worth a visit. Allow yourself 3-4 hours to fully immerse yourself in this cinematic journey.
