Great campground! Very well maintained. Sites are well leveled and spacious. Staff is very friendly. Two beaches, playground, boat launch. Great experience for novice camper. Only complaint- they sold me firewood that would just not burn, tried several fire starters, finally went to a nearby gas station to get some normal wood for the campfire.

This is our go-to camping spot in the Atlanta metro area. Very laid back electric/water spots originally built by the Army Core of Engineers. Spacious concrete pads, all with well-kept gravel fire pit and picnic areas as well as lantern hooks. Many sites have direct access to the lake, some even have beach-like areas along the water. We like site 100 and vicinity since it is a bit more quiet yet close to the nice newer playground. Kids also love the beach and swim area. They have a honey wagon service for a fee. Book as soon as you know you want to go - the booking window opens 6 months in advance and the best sites are gone right away.

For a campground managed by the county, they've created a nice place here and it stands out as one of the nicer ones on the lake. Has it all: very spacious sites, top notch facilities kept very clean, great staff, courtesy dock, nice field and playground for kids, deer everywhere, calming lake views and beautiful sunrises and sunsets. If you can't settle in here and enjoy a nice peaceful stay, your problems may require a professional intervention. I'm an end of the dirt road high in the hills kinda camper, but once a year I meet up with family and friends here bc it really does satisfy, especially with loved ones to share it with.

Don't know why it came up as a hotel πŸ˜•. I was at the camp grounds. It was a nice place and the staff, park rangers and people were very friendly and helpful. Lots of people that lived within 10 to 20 miles of their use it often. First time RV users going there to make a trip. Worked out great about a 30 mile trip from the house, was Fri traffic 😳 and setting up solo, gotta done. It was cold πŸ₯Ά, but had time to walk around and see what sites are good spots for learning.

Beautiful views, clean park, no tank dumping at sites, use dump station near camp entrance. Nice paved roads for walks, jogging & biking. Spectacular views. Great rates plus military discount.

We camp here every year for a week or two. This year, we showed up unexpectedly (we arrived a day early), and the campground worked very hard to accommodate us so we wouldn't have to turn around and head somewhere else. So very nice and professional. I love it here so much. The views, the lake, we bring our bikes and kayaks and have the best time.

I wanted to share our experiences with Shady Grove Campground in GA. The sites are large, fairly level(parking), easy to navigate with great scenery. Th RV sites we’ve stayed at have both water and power hook-ups. For folks that are concerned there are not sewer hook-ups, the park offers a mobile dump service for a very reasonable fee and painless. The bath houses and laundry facilities are very clean and maintained frequently. The park grounds are well maintained, well managed and a pleasure to walk or bike. Note to folks interested in visiting, be aware of the rules in advance. They do not allow consumption of alcohol, scooters, vaping, posted 10 mph speed limits, etc. The rules are fine with us as in ensures a pleasurable experience for all. Lastly, I was to share our experience with the Camp Hosts and management. In short, they make the experience top notch in every regard! They are very friendly, accommodating, informative and helpful. Errynn manages the park and has always been very pleasant and helpful on numerous occasions and willing to assist with the silliest of questions and makes everyone feel welcome! To summarize the park exceeds our expectations, the team is awesome and we will be back. Happy camping!!

We've been coming to Shady Grove regularly for years. It's always been a nice place to camp but recently things seem to be going downhill. The last several sites have had really muddy water coming thru our faucets, even with a filter. When brought to the attention to the gatekeeper, we were told that there's a part of the spigot that needed replacing and it would be turned in to maintenance for repair. But the same thing has happened at other sites as well. Could be a system problem.... Bring lots of water to for cooking/drinking. Another issue has been brought up by other reviewers... Many of the sites need serious repair/upgrades. Even though they've upgraded the whole park to 50a and resurfaced some roads, many of the sites (below #70 or so) are very narrow and have rotted crossties for edges. Site 61, for example, is so narrow and falls off so steep, we've had to build up quite a bit just to get our RV step supports to reach the ground(at full extension). This makes the bottom step at about mid-thigh high... not a pleasant experience just trying to go in and out. My wife has fallen twice on the steep gravel. Management said they'd "look in to it" . Can't let awning out for trees so close. I guess you just gotta be really selective in which sites you choose. There are many with expanded landings, level, great water views, etc. But quite a few that aren't up to par. Great beaches, boat ramp, playground. Deer everywhere! Very quiet through the week, weekends are always crowded. EDIT: a few weeks after this review we returned to shady Grove and noticed that the park staff had done a lot of work on-site 61. They had built out extra landing space for the RV steps and leveled the site considerably. Much better now! These guys don't waste time. They really get stuff done and stay on top of maintenance once they are aware of any issues. We've had no other problems with water quality either. Needs to be 5 star! Kudos to management and maintenance!

Cool place for family clean bathrooms but may as well have a DNR station in your camp site. Make sure you mind the rules. It's like camping for their revenue.

Very well maintained park and rv sites. Right on the water for many of them. The only staff interaction was at the gate check in and it was quite pleasant especially since it was our first time camping with our trailer. Very kind attitude and gave a lot of helpful info. Since then we have been to other similar camp grounds and don't get the same welcoming feeling. We will be back soon!

Beautiful views, grounds are very well maintained, very quiet, friendly staff. There's no booze which kinda sucks but keeps out the Alabama football fans. πŸ‘πŸ»

We spent 14 wonderful days at this campground. Our kids and pups were beyond happy everyday. The bathroom shelters were always clean. The sites were spacious and the campground volunteers were attentive and kind. Leslie and Joe are amazing. We simply can not wait to come back again. Thank you for everything you guys do! You’ll definitely see us again!

Loved the experience!! Everything was very clean and organized. I was a little nervous about the heat, but it was air conditioned to a crisp! We even got help from one of the workers when we couldn't get our fire up and going after the rain. It definitely made our experience worthwhile. Thank you.

Campground was nice. The view was beautiful. The only thing is that it doesn't have full hookup for RVs. There is no sewer hookup. But they do have bathhouses

Great Campground. My 33 foot RV fit with plenty of room to spare. Back in campsite. Beautiful with great Lake views. No wifi or cable. Just peace and quiet. Wilderness.

It's a beautiful place to camp! Very well maintained and clean. The host was extremely helpful when our car engine died. Special thank you and shout out to volunteers Josh and Tom who brought their equipment and saved me with 3 kids!!!!!

You can see lots of deer here. Many lakefront RV sites with and without full hookup. Filtered water and ice vending machine. Games available at the office which close around 7pm. Boosting and fishing are possible in the lake. There was a filming crew there when we visited.

My absolute favorite place to camp. Easy pull through camping spots. I wish there were more on the water, though!! 😁but all well-groomed and clean sites, bathrooms exceptionally clean and clear of spider webs inside and out!!(I'm highly allergic, so a big plus for me!)Washer and dryers and lots of hot shower water!!

Beautiful wooded campsites by the lake. Sites are much larger than other places we’ve camped. All sites have a picnic table, fire pit and grill. Beach area, boat launch, bathrooms/showers. No alcohol allowed on campground.

One of the prettiest, and most fun campgrounds we have ever stayed at. Gorgeous around Fall!

Nice place with roomy campsites but too many people who allow their dogs to roam off leash. I saw a lab take off after a deer. SMH. Rules apply to everyone

My family and I love to come here for camping trips! We stay here with friends, as well. This area near the lake is nice.

Quiet campground with clean restrooms. Although a lot of sites don't have room for awnings, good spots can be found. A new favorite.

We loved it here. Beautiful view of the lake. Privacy, room between sites, clean. The staff were super friendly and even cleaned or tanks before we left (for a small fee). Not sure what the other peoples problem was, but we will go back.

Don’t go here unless you plan on going to bed at 8:00. We got a sound ordinance ticket for quietly playing the acoustic guitar at 10:15. We came with a large group of friends and family. The guard at the gate was very nice at first when I was paying 700 for 8 sites and early check in but as soon as we arrived we were instantly harassed by the park ranger. We followed the park rules but we’re still harassed. My friend was drinking a energy drink and was told he smelt like alcohol. I will not be spending and more of my hard earned relaxation time or money at shady grove park

I want to say awful things so I might scare everyone else off so I can maybe get it all for myself. I’ve very rarely seen so much beautiful space grouped into such a tight package. The people who run it are jaunty, professional, very pleasant, and in no way, tedious.

The campground is a Great location to camp and work in Atlanta ( 40min) I like the woods around you but the spots are difficult to navigate alone. And the eating setup away from your camper is different than most. Which makes the parking pad seem smallish which overall it's Not The people and staff are super Nice. 3.5 STARS for the State Park

Wonderful sites. We didn't even need to level the TT. Good location. Multiple wash houses are around the park and I even saw laundry facilities in them. Our grandkids enjoyed playing on the playground. Plastic and the no splinters! The deer bid is farewell as we left! They wander around the park freely.

Best camp ground. Well maintained, very clean. This is our go to location everytime we want to camp.

More like Buckhead than a peaceful experience in nature. Loud, annoying, foul-mouthed drunks partying until well after midnight. There's no way to get any help after hours....nobody answers. Lots of rude, inconsiderate, party- goers ruin it for families, unfortunately.

This was by far our favorite campground ever. The grounds was very well keep and amazingly clean. We stayed there from October 1-5, it was a beautiful place. The people that run the campground are super friendly. We will definitely be going back.
